The 21 Best Restaurants On Cape Cod - Cape Cod - The Infatuation

"We took one bite of the giant and overstuffed lobster roll from The Wooden Shoe in Dennis Port and said, “Wow, that’s a lot of black pepper.” Then we kept eating until the whole thing disappeared. We then were left to contemplate why more places don’t use more of a heavy hand when it comes to pepper—it provides some great balance to the richness of the meat and mayo. Come here for lunch and get that lobster roll (which, just a heads up, is over $40) and some dairy-heavy chowder while you chat up one of the locals at the bar." - jennifer mattson, carlo mantuano

We came here for early dinner on a weekend and didn’t need a reservation. We ordered a lobster broil, clam chowder and a salad. Food was OK. Lobster was just the right size but tasted a little chewy. The clams were good and it comes with a corn on a cob. Chowder was very thick and creamy so hard to appreciate the clams. Service was very good. We were seated immediately we got all the dishes that we ordered. It was just a little on the pricey side. Overall though the food, service and restaurant was good.

Google
Super fresh seafood. The lobster roll has tons of fresh lobster.

If they are not known for their bloody marry's then they should be. I believe the owner (female) made it for me. Enter it into a competition. Pricey place but it is the cape so I expected it. I'd say average for the area. Pretty generous portions of foo, we ordered crab cakes, steamers and a giant lobster roll. The giant lobster roll was just a basic new england hot dog roll overly, over filled with lobster meat, but it was delicious. The crab cakes aren't your typical crab cakes. Maybe baked In a muffin top pan, but they are good. They had a good ratio of crab to mixture, not gene9but good amount. The steamers were little necks, also good, served with butter and Broth. It was recommended by some locals....

Google
Exactly what we were looking for - as authentic as it gets. Terrific food in a quaint historic spot with a server who knew all about the area and the history. This has been our best stop all week.

Google
We went for Steamers and they were the best we've had in a long time!

Google
I have never been here before and my uncles went for drinks and all the old timers were raving about the food. I was dying for a lobster roll. I got the "giant" size, not worth $45 at all. It had an extra scoop of the lobster salad compared to the small. I will say that was good but I had better. Also got the clambake, about $55. Came with a whole lobster, clams and corn on the Cobb. Lobster was great but the clams were very sandy and they were defiantly not done. Lastly got the scallops, about $25. They certainly were not done either and they were very tiny. Also got 2 little cups of clam chowder, that was really good. The atmosphere was really good, kinda like a dive bar feel. Lots of old men drinking beers. No AC though, got hot after eating. I'm from Maryland, we know our seafood.

Google
If you are craving a lobster roll, this may be the place! A pound of lobster on a toasted hot dog roll. Lobster has light mayo and no fillers. Couple of premium cocktails, Perfect!

Casey Liberty

Google
Ordered a clam chowder that never came. Ordered two old fashioneds that were basically soda water and bourbon. Three of us ordered lobster that was well over done and chewy. I myself ordered the steak tips medium rare that came out very rare. They did take the steak off the bill but I would not recommend if visiting there are far better spots for seafood and steak.

Yelp
The best "stumbled into" of Cape Cod. 10/10 recommend their lobster roll and the salad. No frills because they're not needed. Eat inside and enjoy the locals or take a 8 min walk to the beach and enjoy the view. Can't say better things about this place.

Yelp
Found this place over a decade ago. Had my very first lobster roll here and it is still the best lobster roll I've ever had in my life. This is the first stop every time we come to the cape alllll the way from New Jersey. Michelle, the owner, is always pleasant and welcoming. Beer is always cold, food js always fresh. The "vibe" is very small town local bar and I couldn't ask for it to be any better. If you're a first responder, be sure to bring a patch for Michelle to hang on the wall. Oh -- and CASH ONLY. It's worth the stop at the ATM, trust me. They have one inside too.. just in case you forget.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
first time to cape, and this was the worst meal we had while here. service was horrible, they were out of many things on the menu like lobster. ordered their "specialty cocktail" of a strawberry daquari that was full of large ice chunks. salmon blt was dry and when we asked for some sauce or mayo she brought one packet. just not a good experience

Daniel R.

Yelp
We love the Wooden Shoe! Michelle always makes us feel welcome and takes great care of us.....

Bruce M.

Yelp
Visited restaurant based on reviews. Wife and I had clam chowder and it was awful. Not sure what they use to thicken it but that's all you tasted. It wasn't very hot. Ate a few spoon fills and it left it. I had lobster roll, small, which was a heated hot dog roll. Plenty of lobster but for 34.00 you are better off at Kreme and Cone. Wife had a cheesesteak sandwich which was awful. Not sure if the steak was road kill but it was gross. Too many places in the area to recommend this place. A hole in the wall that is ok for drinks but eat somewhere else.

Yelp
This is always one of our stops when visiting the Cape, usually eat there at least three times during our week stay, been going for many many years. unfortunately, this visit was not good. Wasn't real busy as we always go off times to beat the crowds. Chowder was lukewarm, and the steamers were very sandy. The portions seemed a lot smaller than the past. we know everyone has an off day and we will give them another shot.
google avatar

Dana M.

Yelp
1 star for the friendly service. Food was the worst. We're on vacation and have eaten seafood every single day, and this was by far the worst. The steamers were the most hideous thing I've seen on the coast. I understand that they are not the Littlenecks we are used to in Buffalo, but there were not cleaned AT ALL, and were all different sizes, so the large ones were not fully cooked. They did not smell off, just had a general strong ocean odor. However, when eaten, they reduced to mush and sand. Completely disappointing. When I explained and showed pictures to a waitress at another restaurant the following day, she said she was willing to bet they were dead when they were cooked..

Yelp
This is a Cape Cod Hidden Gem! The portions are way bigger than the prices and the family owned feel is throughout the entire experience. Skeptical of the limited menu? Don't be. They know EXACTLY what they are doing. The lobsters and steamer portions are huge. Crab cakes are all crab, cohoags are homemade and all soups are incredible. I almost don't want everyone on the cape to know about the amazing deal and this hidden gem because it's so worth it. We will be regulars in the future and happy to support a well run, price friendly, family owned business. Special shout-out to Brayden our server who was wonderful :)

Yelp
I never critique a restaurant but I feel I have to tonight. We have frequented the Wooden Shoe "the Shoe" since we bought our first cottage in 1984. Last time we ordered was Fathers Day 2024. The giant lobster roll was so big, we got 2 meals out of them and they were delicious. Ordered the giant lobster roll tonight. Was quoted $46.50. We were going to split it as the giant is usually massive. Was very disappointed. No chunk lobster, it was all shredded, small portion and tasteless. We couldn't even cut through the roll, it just tore apart. Also, the coleslaw was half full. I asked for a menu on my way out and discovered the price for a giant lobster roll is $43.95 according to the menu.

Yelp
We have a family home in Dennis and have been Cape Codders for over 30 years. A friend of my wife's told her of this place that we had never heard of and that she had a ceasar lobster salad that she liked. So, yesterday after having breakfast at Wee Packet (awesome restaurant) we figured we'd do a drive-by The Wooden Shoe to see if it looked like a place we might want to try for dinner that night. After googling we found that it was only 300 ft from Wee Packet. We drove over and swung into the empty parking lot. There was an Open sign but obviously no-one eating there. On google it mentioned an outdoor dining option. We saw a picknic table in the parking lot, LOL. While we were sitting there talking about our possible dinner plans we heard someone saying something from behind us. We looked back and saw no-one, shrugged our shoulders and continued talking. Then we heard "MOVE TO A PARKING SPOT OR LEAVE!" and saw a grumpy old man behind the restaurants side screen door. Kind of shocked I put my vehicle in drive and we started moving towards the road when we heard "F***ING A**HOLES". My wife had to hold me back from jumping out of the Jeep but needless to say we did not have dinner there and never will. I'm guessing grumpy was the owner, the chef, or both. I just want to raise a RED FLAG that even though there "may be" edible food at this place, there is a bad vibe and possible dark spirit that I strongly recommend you avoid. Instead, just park you car there and walk 300 ft down the road to Wee Packet where the owner, the staff, and the food are exceptional!

Mike G.

Yelp
The lobster rolls were huge. I would definitely recommend going if you're looking for a quality lobster roll without crazy prices and waits

Yelp
We recently stayed down the road from The Wooden Shoe and the owners of the cottage we were renting had recommended it. It was nice to experience a more local spot than a lot of the busier touristy restaurants. We enjoyed their clam chowder, steamers and crab cakes with lobster bisque on top. Definitely wish we have a lobster roll since it was raves about on here so much and the pictures looked amazing. Next time!

Yelp
Was looking forward to a Whole Lobster dinner, I've been eating them for 60 years. We ordered 2 Lobster Dinners it came with corn on the cob and coleslaw. I rip apart the lobster and the tail meat turned to mush! Never before have I had that. I sent it back and even the server touched it and agreed. I ate the corn while I waited and the second one was the same and so I sent it back. My friends lobster was fine. I ordered a lobster bisque and was ready to call it a day. The bisque was watery with very little lobster in it, although it did have good flavor, i ate half of it. Even the diet coke was lacking...it was almost all seltzer, but we were thirsty and our server was so busy we didn't dare ask for anything else. We got the bill and we asked what the $3.50 charge was and the server said it was for the corn that I ate while waiting for the second lobster. He said they lost a lot of money on those 2 lobsters....Lobsters that were mush and no good!!! I couldn't believe his response! He said I was the first person to complain about their lobsters!! I would NEVER recommend this place
google avatar

Jon G.

Yelp
Still the best place this side of the Mississippi for a lobster. Come on folks, get on down here. The entire staff and owner are so genuine. I can't stress it enough this is my favorite place on earth to drink and eat. Shout out to papa Santor!

Jacqui K.

Yelp
Adorable restaurant in Dennis Port, with a friendly atmosphere and good service. Food however was lack luster. Lobster Bisque was wonderfully creamy texture with a slightly too sweet flavor and too little lobster. the Scallops were perfectly cooked but lacked flavor. The steamers were loaded with sand, disintegrated when shucked, and tasted like you licked the ocean.
google avatar

Jacqueline M.

Yelp
Good lobster roll! The large was $39 (small was $28) which is pretty standard for the cape. Our lobster roll had more shredded meat than chunks and could have used more seasoning, but overall you get a TON of fresh lobster for a decent price.

Joan H.

Yelp
Friendly staff, informal comfortable environment. Food is simple but very good! Best clam chowder! Scallops are very good. Great place for a taste of a Cape Cod local.
google avatar

Jacqueline T.

Yelp
Wow!! The biggest best lobster role I've ever had. Great local hangout. Definitely a local secret. I'll be back!

Camille R.

Yelp
Went there with my dad on 8/23. My lobster bisque had several lumps of flour. My dad had the cod with rice and coleslaw. He said the cod was tasteless and the rice was very plain and only warm. I had the lobster roll and it was just ok. Would not go back.

Corey M.

Yelp
Delicious oversized lobster rolls. When I'm at the cape I alway come here!! Friendly staff. Only downside is it's cash only but they have an ATM inside. Still definitely worth it

Glenn C.

Yelp
Went there for dinner with my family. Had the lobster and steamers. They were cook great and the portions were good!! Also the service was great!! Highly recommend!!

Yelp
We were staying in Dennis Port for the weekend, and the first night, we wandered around looking for some food. We eventually stumbled upon The Wooden Shoe, and we almost didn't eat here because it's cash only. We counted our cash in the parking lot (we're classy) and decided we would go for it- and we were so glad we did! There was 7 of us, and there were only two big tables. Both had people sitting in them, but about to finish up, so we waited for a table. We eventually got a round corner booth after about 5-10 minutes. Our waiter was really friendly, and while he was occasionally forgetful, he was really funny about it so we didn't mind. The inside decor went with the outside- not fancy, but what you'd expect at a limited menu, seafood-focused place on the Cape. I ordered a cup of clam chowder ($4.75) and a lobster roll. I forget the exact cost of the lobster roll, but their specials and "market price" items ran about $14-20. We also got some pitchers of beer- they have a small but decent selection of bottles and drafts, and also a full bar. Other people at our table ordered steamers, lobster bisque ($5), and whole lobsters. My clam chowder was really tasty and I couldn't stop eating it. I didn't try the lobster bisque, but it also got rave reviews from people at the table. By the end, there seriously wasn't an empty bowl on the table. When my lobster roll came, it was on a hot dog bun- love- and literally overflowing with delicious lobster. I've had a LOT of lobster rolls- I'd say this one made the top 5 or 7, and was prepared just the way I like it. If we go back to Dennis Port, we will definitely be going back to The Wooden Shoe. We had a blast drinking delicious beer and eating delicious food. The waiter was a lot of fun as well. If you're in the area and craving seafood, I strongly suggest coming here! If they accepted credit cards, this place would definitely be 5 stars.

Deborah M.

Yelp
Best lobster roll hands down. I get a large one and split it with my husband and still have some leftover to bring home.
google avatar

Diana R.

Yelp
While visiting the Cape we searched for a seafood restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. After reading many reviews we decided to give The Wooden Shoe a try. WOW!! We were glad we did! The Lobster Roll was filled to overflowing with delicious lobster meat! The small roll was very filling! My spouse had the Crab Cakes which were served with Lobster Bisque topping. This is a favorite of his and he was extremely pleased. Needless to say, don't go by a few negative reviews. This place is a gem!!

Olivia S.

Yelp
First time trying The Shoe. BY FAR best lobster roll I've had on Cape and I've been spending my summers here 24 years. My boyfriend, a Cape local, agrees. First of all, the shear size of the giant lobster roll was insane, three times bigger than the typical roll you would find at the competition, not to mention cheaper! By the looks of the roll I would have happily paid over $40, and it was under $30! Our drinks were also very reasonably priced, and strong, wich a young couple like us always appreciates :) Please please give this place a try! Support a small business, it's worth it! Much better than waiting over an hour at other places for a lobster roll that could never compete! We were so obsessed we practically took a photo shoot of our dinners!
google avatar

Deana C.

Yelp
We have eaten here twice this week! The food was awesome and the price was reasonable. The people here are very nice and welcomed us back with a big smile. My kind of place. It's a little small, but that's good for me because it's a smaller crowd.
google avatar

Carlos A.

Yelp
You know what? This place is cash only and worth every penny! Lobster roll is AWESOME! Steamers, crab cakes and steak, all good! Waitress was great and definitely have the beach blonde Cape Cod draft! I'll be back.
google avatar

Mandi M.

Yelp
Great little spot for a quick dinner. Came with my family and had an infant with us. Quick seating and very accommodating. Waitress was very nice. The food came out really quick. It wasn't anything special to be honest. Lobster Roll was kind of small and not worth $30. Very dim lighting. In fact, zero lighting at the bar except for the tv. Overall, an easy, laid back and comfortable place to be!

mary f.

Yelp
Stopped in as it was close to our rental and open. Flavorless lobster roll. OK lobster bisque. Not great steamers. Service was not very friendly, felt like they just wanted locals. Will not be going back ever.

Rachael G.

Yelp
The people were nice but our lobsters were well over cooked and they don't serve any of their seafood or any dishes with potatoes or fries, only chips. I like a limited menu, but the limited choices should each be special (and complete). Lastly the place just wasn't very clean. We felt like we stumbled into cool local hang out bar vs dinner place.
google avatar

Mary D.

Yelp
Has a dated decor, but the lobster and bisque were good and the waitress friendly. Seems to be a popular place with the locals, which we prefer over the tourist centered restaurants. May go back and try the lobster roll after seeing such great reviews!

Brian K.

Yelp
Another Summer on the Cape and a great meal at the "Shoe". Love the steak tips and chowder and you can't beat the prices! Better than ever! The best chowder and lobster roll on the cape! Good steak tips, burgers, and steamers.

Dave F.

Yelp
Lobster rolls were amazing. However, crab cakes tasted (and looked) previously frozen. Lobster bisque was way too thick with zero lobster in it -- wouldn't even consider it a soup. Overpriced for the quality of food you get.
google avatar

Lynda G.

Yelp
Ate at the Shoe last night and had another fabulous experience. Service was fast and friendly. Chowder was thick. Quahogs were tasty and enough for a few people to split. Drink prices were the best in the area, overall great experience, as always!
google avatar

Olivia M.

Yelp
Okay here's the thing, this place is definitely not a show stopper in looks BUT Y'ALL.... do not pass this place!!! The lobster rolls (cold only) had three times the amount of lobster as anywhere else. It was almost too much! They're cash only but they have an atm inside. Locals are all about this place so you know it's good. Michelle the owner was wonderful and helpful and you need to go see her.
google avatar

Claudia M. P.

Yelp
Good lobster boil and nice staff. Priced very well a good place to go to straight from a Long Beach day.
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
We come back to this spot year after year. Nothing fancy, but the food and service is amazing. Great for large groups. For the first time in forever I strayed from a full lobster meal and got the Scallop Caesar Salad, and they were honestly the best scallops I had on the cape, plus they don't skimp on portions!
google avatar

Bob H.

Yelp
We went here our last night at the cape. It is a small place that is basically the ground floor of a small house. The food was excellent. We had never tried the Lobster Rolls on our trip as they just sounded, well, dumb! We're from Chicago and the only thing you should put on a hot dog roll is a hot dog (or maybe a good BRAT). Well we were quite surprised. For $16 dollars we got a hot dog bun piled high with a delicious mixture of fresh lobster, mayonnaise, seasoning, etc. (at least 2 full cups worth). It was great! this plus the spicy thick clam chowder and we were hooked. Try it, you'll like it. Oh and at about 9PM they have some local entertainment but we weren't able to hang around. Parking is a bit tricky... PEACE
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
Terrific from start to finish. Place is super clean and bright. Service is excellent. They only take cash so build in a solid 20% tip because you will need it. Menu is straightforward--lobster, quahogs, chowdah, steamers. Market price the night we were there was $18.95/lb and my lobster was packed with meat. My husband got the clambake and was so full he couldn't eat the corn. If we come back to the Cape this place is a definite stop. Also, try the Beached Blonde IPA. Fantastic.
google avatar

Douglas S.

Yelp
I've been a couple times and if you are in the mood for lobster ... don't miss it. They have the biggest lobster roll I've ever seen and the twin lobster specials are a great value. It's a bit of a dive, has a full bar but it may be unmatched in their lobster offering. I hear the clams are great too, but have yet to get past the lobster.
google avatar

Megan T.

Yelp
The wooden shoe is definitely a local's delight! A bit of a hole in the wall, don't expect anything fancy from this joint. The menu is simple(y) delightful! By that I mean, great options and value for seafood lovers but not much to choose from otherwise. My vegetarian sister-in-law couldn't really eat anything except a bed of lettuce. But me, lobster rolls- yes please!
google avatar

Devon H.

Yelp
If you are looking for a tasty home-cooked Cape Cod meal, this is the place. Coming from a "Cape" of sorts myself, I'm VERY hard to please when it comes to seafood. My crab cake dinner was a perfect portion of 3 cakes stuffed with crab, fresh corn on the cob with melted butter, and a little side of coleslaw. My boyfriend ordered the steak dish (ya I know, he ordered steak at a seafood place?!) and loved it. Everyone around us seemed to be really enjoying the lobster. Most places in the Cape are very touristy but "The Shoe" is the real deal, and doesn't skimp. Service was also great and the atmosphere was really relaxing. It seemed like a place that locals and Cape regulars frequent, which is not surprising. I should also mention that the menu is very limited but it works with their no-frills style. Prices are VERY reasonable.
google avatar

A W.

Yelp
What a find! This place had 1st rate seafood for 3rd rate prices. Very casual atmosphere and super friendly staff. The clam chowder is the best I've ever had, and I've had a lot of clam chowder. Be warned, they only take cash. We would have sampled their reasonably priced specialty drink menu, but only had enough cash for a seafood feast.
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
Such a cute place to bring your family. The atmosphere is relaxed and makes you feel like you're in your living room. Our waitress Caitlin answered some of our menu questions with patience and enthusiasm. She made us feel right at home. The lobster roll, quahogs, chowder and scallops were some of the best we have had on the cape. Definitely recommend this hidden gem!
google avatar

Dan R.

Yelp
Again, some of the best steamers on the Cape! Michelle bends over backwards to ensure her customers are happy....and we are! Just a great example of old Cape Cod....clean, friendly and reasonably priced. You have to try it!
google avatar

Mr. H.

Yelp
Gotta love this place, good food, best lobster roll, great drinks, and friendly staff. What more can you ask for.

Reggie V.

Yelp
Dreadfully dissappointing. Flavorless scallops, lobster and crab cakes. Drinks watered down beyond recognition. My recommendation? Maybe order the wooden shoe. Might have some flavor. Only gave it one star because 0 Stars wouldn't let me post.
google avatar

Timothy D.

Yelp
Okay, yes the lobster roll is overflowing, but quantity does not make up for quality. It's tasted flat, bland and served with a bag of Lays and a plastic container of so-so coleslaw. A slice of lemon on the side would have solved the flatness, but at $19 that's no value. Server was friendly and service was quick and timely. Decor is cute, typical cape cod - cleaner than many. Ordered chowder, wings, steak tips, lobster rolls and crab cakes. Chowder was excellent. Thick, good flavor and a nice hint of thyme. We were excited for the rest of the meal All downhill from there. Wings small and pathetic looking. Had a tasty sauce (probably classic Franks), but not deep fried so skin was rubbery. Steak tips were overcooked, crab cakes mediocre and and covered in a bland sauce. Corn on the cob was not shucked, so you had to put off last two layers and all the silk. It has been pre-cooked and probably kept on a steam table, so it picked up the grassy flavor of the leaves. There are NO kid options - so be prepared to pay. Yelp says it excepts credit cards, but everywhere says cash only. The server kept pitching the low drink prices compared to other bars. Drinks may be cheaper here than other places nearby, but the food is so-so. We would go back and split a take out lobster rolls for the beach and ask for some lemon slices..

Ray C.

Yelp
Had drinks and a lobster roll for dinner. The lobster was dry and fairly tasteless. It was also expensive. also beware they take cash only; but there is an ATM machine inside. An ok experience but nothing to write home about.
