The 18 Best Family Resorts in the U.S.

"Large-scale resort amenities are the draw here, anchored by the Forest Oasis Waterpark (a 30‑foot tower with a racing slide, a 1,000‑foot lazy river, three pools, and a sprayground for younger kids). First-floor walkout rooms offer direct pool access for families hoping to maximize swim time; beyond water fun, guests can play tennis or pickleball or bike the 200+ miles of trails through the East Texas pineywoods. Accessible rooms, amenities, and common spaces are available; starting rates are from about $207." - Sarah Bruning Sarah Bruning Sarah Bruning is the special projects and surveys editor at Travel + Leisure, where she has been on staff since 2018. The Best Hotel Pools in Houston | Eater Houston

"Whether you’re catching a show at the Cynthia Woods Pavilion or taking in the Woodlands’ up-and-coming dining scene, a visit to the Woodlands Resort’s Forest Oaks pool and family-friendly water park is a must. With a lagoon-style pool, water slides, waterfalls, and a lazy river to lounge in, take in the endless Texas summer sun with great food and cocktails. Expect a casual menu of bites, like cheeseburger egg rolls, wings, salads, and sandwiches, or dig into heartier dishes like the smoked pork rib platter. Adults can indulge in the resort’s selection of beer, wine, and its variety of tropical drinks, including the mojitos and rum coolers, which come in standard and large cup sizes for peak boozing." - Brittany Britto Garley

We stayed at the Woodlands Resort, Curio Collection, for two nights, and it was an amazing experience for the whole family! We booked a pool walk-out room, and it was the best decision, we could step right out and be at the pool within seconds. The kids had an absolute blast swimming from morning to night, and there were so many fun activities throughout the day to keep them entertained. We enjoyed food ordered right by the pool, a delicious morning buffet, and relaxing evenings at the bar. The front desk staff and the team at the morning buffet were amazing, sorry I can’t remember their names, but their service really made our stay special. We came to celebrate both a birthday and our wedding anniversary, and it truly felt like a special getaway. Highly recommend this resort for families looking for a fun and memorable stay!

The water park was ransacked with people that didn’t have bracelets and over crowed. (No chairs available) The front desk seemed upset about it but seems like it’s a common thing personally because the next day, same story. The wait staff was fast and great delivering food and drinks to your chair…if you can find a chair that’s open. Security slaps warning stickers on your car freely if parked in the front longer than 2 hours even though the sign says “No overnight parking”. We parked there at 6:10am and at 10am we had one of those hard to remove stickers. We followed the signs but security said 2 or so hours at most but there isn’t a sign that says that, just no overnight. $23 for security to remove the sticker. They charge a $75 a day resort fee; not $45 as it states online. It includes self parking and morning coffee; items that should be complementary anyway, besides access to the water park. The water park allows $100 day pass but seems like it’s $100 a van load and not per person. The “resort” doesn’t have the feel of fancy, more like a Disney resort but less visuals in my opinion. The front desk and staff were friendly so I have to give them two thumbs up. Room beds are comfortable and AC worked great in the rooms. Dog friendly for $100

Our family is currently staying at The Woodlands Resort, and I had to share how much it has exceeded our expectations. The staff is warm, welcoming, and goes above and beyond to ensure their guests' stay is nothing short of perfection. The resort itself is beautiful, with an atmosphere that manages to be both relaxing for parents and exciting for kids at the same time. The room is spacious, comfortable, and has a gorgeous view of the waterpark. But what has really made the stay stand out is the exceptional service. The team at The Woodlands Resort truly care about their guests, and it shows in every detail. Several thoughtful touches throughout the property, with every aspect of the guests experience meticulously considered. Overall, I would highly recommend The Woodlands Resort to anyone looking for a luxurious and memorable getaway. We are already planning for our next stay!

Here is our long list of moderate issues with our recent stay. I want to say I wonder if I was getting the booked-with-points experience but I also paid with my own money in part, plus I’ve stayed here before on my own dime. Room smelled musty. First thing I mentioned to my bell guy upon entering. It was the first thing I said to Hilton when they texted and asked how my room was. No response. Snell remained on third day. Couldn’t open patio door. Eventually figured it out without help we asked for. Fridge was leaking upon arrival. They fixed this right away. Pool side towel service shuts down some time before 7:45. A sign directs you to the gift shop that I’ve never seen. Sign does not tell you where to go. At the pool, you order by QR code. There’s no way to indicate salt on the rim. When you look at the pool menu, kids items come with either watermelon or fries. When you click to actually order, the options become fruit, fries, or veggies. What the kitchen receives on a piece of receipt tape is just “kids burger” so they default to fries. Like, the kitchen has no way to know what side you selected. The food was good though. Also ordered truffle fries which I loved. Our last night, we opened the QR menu at 7:52. See screen shot. It indicated the time and that the app to order was shut down (indicating they close at 8…. Which it was not yet 8). Walked to bar before 8pm close. It was also closed.

We recently spent 5 nights at this resort. From our arrival to departure, our experience was great! The free on site parking is plentiful and not a far walk like some large resorts. We had a balcony room overlooking the pool. It was fantastic to be so close to the pool since we have a young child who loves to swim. There were always plenty of chairs by the pools. Our room was promptly serviced every day, which feels like such a luxury these days when many hotels only offer housekeeping service (or fresh towels) upon request. Food service was fast both poolside and in room. We did not visit the restaurant(s) on site, but ordered food at the pool and in room. Our only minor criticism: the lazy river experience would be greatly improved if there were a staff person dedicated to monitoring the pool & retrieving tubes that weren’t being used. The lazy river is somewhat narrow, and it felt perpetually crowded since it was always full of unused tubes. We’ve stayed at other resorts where this isn’t an issue since they’ve got employees removing unused tubes regularly. It’s minor and not enough to lower my rating; it was just noticeable compared to similar resorts with lazy rivers. Overall, our experience here was relaxing and very fun!

We had a great time this past weekend at the resort. The poolside service was exceptional. The poolside were very relaxing. Yes, there were lots of kids running around, but they were well behaved. The food was great at Harrison's. We weren't able to go to the fine dining restaurant, but will definitely check that out next time. The only issue we had was with housekeeping. There were some language barriers, completely understandable, but one of our bags from Dick's Sporting Goods were taken with items we had just purchased inside. That was a let down. Our room was 4237.

I accidentally stumbled on this place headed to a convention at another Hilton property. I was happy that I did. Great location and the ambiance gives Florida or any other Resort outside of Texas. The breakfast was great, I was able to catch a ride from staff on their golf cart. Great place for a family getaway

JP was absolutely outstanding as our poolside waiter! From the moment we sat down, he made sure we were taken care of with prompt, friendly service and a genuine smile. He was attentive without being overbearing, always checking in at just the right times, and made sure our drinks were cold and our food was perfect.||What stood out most was his positive attitude—he went above and beyond to make us feel relaxed and welcome. Even when the pool area got busy, JP kept his cool and never let service drop. It’s clear he takes pride in what he does, and it made our day by the pool that much better.||If you’re lucky enough to be in JP’s section, you’re in great hands. We’ll definitely be back and hope to see him again!

Yelp
I can't say much on all the amenities they have. Wife and I checked in late and left early so didn't take advantage of anything but the room. Very nice and comfortable. A/C worked great.

Yelp
Absolutely Terrible. Thought we'd go here for Easter lunch today. It had been years and previously enjoyed it. Today was another matter. The food was good except for the oysters on the half shell. They were quite fishy and more than one of us tried them. The room was a large banquet room with no windows or decor. Previous years, they had used the restaurant that at least had ambiance and views. A much nicer experience. The wait staff was sporadic and unorganized. For the money, $100.00 a person, go elsewhere as there's too many places that have great food, ambiance for a great family lunch and service that is so much better. When they add the gratuity automatically, any size party, and you have to get your own water because servers weren't around, you may want to go somewhere else. Greatly disappointed as they were out to serve as many as possible with the least effort, no decor, & almost non existent service. We'll stick to better places.

Yelp
witnessed staff blocking handicapped persons from using handicapped spot behind valet barricades, then physically intimidating them when they (and I) asked why. answers: so hotel staff could use the "convenient" spot for their service carts, paraphrasing "if they let the handicapped persons park their car there, they'd likely run their cars into other expensive cars in the valet area" I can't remember a time that I've been more appalled by hotel staff behavior. Please take this into account before giving them any of your business. video: https://www.flickr.com/gp/jeff-hughes/82eN27 this was from just after I asked This gentleman followed me and my kids back to my car and further berated me for my inquiry.

Yelp
Totally disappointed in this resort which came highly recommended. No flavored creamer for coffee A.C. wasn't working in room & host David was rude when informed. At 10:30 at night (shouldn't have mattered what time but this made it even that much worse) he asked if I wanted to come get new room key or did I want someone to bring it to me. Da'ah, bring it to me. At night, the pool was dark, several lights were out or whatever. Unacceptable. In the area of the sauna was pitch black. NOT SAFE Totally didn't meet expectations $24 PP Breakfast was good which was given to us due to horrible hospitality. Don't waste your money

Yelp
The resort was at 98% capacity yet they continued to allow the purchase of day passes. The pools were totally overcrowded and filled with people who may or may not have purchased a day pass anyway. After reporting an incident, the manager informed me they had no security on site. It was obvious many of the people in the pool area simply walked in without anyone verifying whether they stayed at the resort or at least purchased a day pass. This is an unsafe and overcrowded resort.
