Really great, top notch in all aspects. Starting from the ambiance, really nice decor, with lots of open wood, minimalist scandi style, all flowed. little things like the tables were all stylish that matched chairs (not some cheap furniture trying to be chic), even the trolley used to bring the food was classy.. it all adds to the feeling! Service was impeccable and everyone very welcoming, the open kitchen was clearly spotless. Food arrived and was really perfect, lightly smoked seared barbary duck, I had hake which was cooked to absolute perfection - it was juicy, tasty and just cooked - very hard to achieve! All sauces balanced, desert was rhubarb and really worked well with the ginger ice cream. even the sides, bitter leaves with an intense blue cheese dressing from an infused oil / vinagrette so no chunks of cheese was spot on, very fresh. My friend had the belly pork and was a big fan. Even the 0.8% low alc pale ale, never heard of the brand - really great tasting. Plus £40 mid week 3 courses is unbeatable value for the quality ingredients, perfect cooking and exact presentation. If I am ever back in Newbury I would come back and go for the much more expensive full menu. I've already recommended to colleagues who live near by
