The 15 Saddest Bar and Restaurant Closings in D.C. in 2019 | Eater DC

"I was saddened when this Southern-leaning American kitchen closed after seven years, leaving James Beard winner Jeff Buben with only one D.C. restaurant (Bistro Bis); the spot was beloved for wood-fired flatbreads, Parker House rolls, she-crab soup, shrimp and grits, and crab cake BLTs, supported busy lunch crowds via its adjoining Woodward Takeout Food (WTF), and now the corner will be replaced by a Cheesecake Factory." - Tierney Plumb

I lived here for two and a half years and it was the best building in every regard - better than any other I have lived in in DC. The apartments are modern inside with great amenities. The building itself is clean and safe, with a friendly (and attentive) front desk, a gym (including a Peloton), and a rooftop with the best views of DC. Management is great (very good communication) and goes above and beyond - especially the maintenance team. If you have a service request, it is completed right away. Can't speak highly enough about this building! And an added benefit is its location: right next to the National Mall and the McPherson Metro.

I have lived in the Woodward Building for nearly three years and love it. The building is a beautiful historic treasure in a perfect location with terrific amenities, especially the rooftop deck with stunning views. The units are clean, modern, and very quiet. Most impressive are the front desk staff and management, who are friendly, professional, and truly committed to helping the residents enjoy our apartment homes. Truly a great place to live!

Any time I make furniture deliveries at this building the concierge is always friendly and very helpful. Top notch professional!

I love living at the Woodward Building Apartments! The location is prime and within walking distance to national museums, monuments, theaters, restaurants, the White House, many universities and federal government agencies, Capital One Arena, the Kennedy Center, and the Metro, to name a few. The apartments are beautiful with high ceilings, and all units have their own washer and dryer. The staff are amazing - from the managers to the front desk concierges to the maintenance technicians. All issues and requests I have had in my 2+ years here have been promptly and professionally attended to. If you are looking to rent in downtown DC, I highly recommend the Woodward Building Apartments!

Excellent apartments, location and management! I do not have enough nice things to say about them.

This is now my fourth consecutive lease at the Woodward because this building is my downtown DC home. When I first arrived to the Woodward I chose a one bedroom apartment with a den and after three years living here I recently upgraded to a two bedroom, two bath apartment with additional garage storage. The building is luxurious. I feel it every time I or one of my guest's enter the environment. Soft classical music plays in the building foyer, with sumptuous welcoming rugs and surrounded by pristine embellishments. A friendly consierge greets me when I arrive home. He or she signs for my Amazon packages during the day while I am at the office. I drop off my FedEx returns and my dry cleaning bag with them and start my day. Early mornings I can smell the coffee brewing in the attached coffee shop after I finish working out in the Woodward gym on the second floor. My groceries are hand delivered to the consierge and I gather them when I arrive back home at 6pm. With my recent upgrade, the management office allowed me to have my departing apt keys and my new apt keys simultaneously. That made my move so much easier and stress-free and was so greatly appreciated. They treat me like family. The building has an online residents portal so if I have any maintenance issues, the dedicated staff resolves my requests in a timely manner. I also sincerely appreciate that this is a smoke-free building. So I never have to deal with marijuana stench when I pass by my neighbors doors. There is a garbage chute at the end of my floor hall, a service elevator for deliveries and underground parking for vehicles (additional charge) and tenant's bicycles. The location is ideal, with many neighborhood businesses a block away. The views from the rooftop lounge are stunning. You can touch the fireworks on NYEve and July 4th. The Woodward is also extremely convenient for Metro access (McPherson Square) as DC has an amazing solution for those of us who like the city lifestyle without the need for vehicle ownership. So treat yourself...life is too short. Invest in a luxury building lifestyle at the Woodward Building, the best apartment home available in downtown DC.

Fantastic home in the heart of DC! Wonderful managers, maintenance team, concierge team - the whole staff is just the best. It truly feels like a home and is a beautiful place to live!

I haven't moved in but already can feel their excellent service. The general manager, Mike, and a lady I spoke to on the phone are nice, kind, professional, efficient, responsive, and compassionate. They understand how stressful it is to find a place to live and settle everything down. They offer their best service to make it less stressful. For example, they offered to receive my package before I move in, they attach pictures to show me where to park on my move in day, and the lady on the phone spoke to me twice kindly and gave me useful information. Highly recommended! Added 12/29/2020 - I lived here for a few months and my previous statements still stand. The management and service staff are just a wonderful crew. They are so attentive and responsive. If you need help, they are always there. They are very good at what they’re doing and flexible too! I’ve been having some issues I need help with, and they’ve been working with me rigorously to find solutions. Finding a nice place to live is not about being free of any problem. Nobody can have no problem all their lives. But having professional help there to support your residential experience has been the most valuable for me.

Yelp
We rented a two bedroom unit for a few nights. Booking the unit on their website was easy and straightforward. Arrival and check in was easy as well. The unit was spacious and clean. Good location and excellent value.

Yelp
Stayed at the Woodward Building for three nights. Reserved a one bedroom but got upgraded to a two bedroom two bath. The apartment was modern and squeaky clean and bright. The beds (we tried both) were comfortable! The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and appliances. You will not get daily room service, and you will need to dump your trash down the shoot when you leave. One room bedroom had a small TV, the other had a IPOD boom-box. Free WiFi comes with the room. The living room had a big screen TV, with comcast, coffee table, couch and chairs, as well as a dining table with chairs. The building has a 24hr Internet lounge that has a big screen TV and couches, as well as a few computer terminals that are free of cost to use, and where we could print for free too! There is a very cool roof terrace to hang out on, a fabulous view of the district. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The public transportation was great, the McPherson Metro Station is just a couple blocks away, cabs are in abundance in this part of town, and there is a bus stop at the corner. The restaurant in the building is called Potenza. It is Italian, easy to use but the food was just okay... I heard the Pizza is good, but I made the mistake to have chicken instead... The building also has a wine store off the front entrance so we were never without libations! This was a nice departure from my hotel stays in DC. I would absolutely do it again.

Yelp
My company booked 3 night stay since early May. Upon arrival was told no room was available because previous guests decided to extend stay. Since when does a hotel allow prior guests to remain when room has been fully paid for at least 1 month prior? When I asked why they couldn't move those guests - was told that they wouldn't move so instead we needed to be completely inconvenienced. Bridgestreet management exercised extremely poor judgement. Was moved to another apt. at least 30 min away & upon arrival - there were no keys available for us. Only a kindly front desk person let us in. The whole point of the original booking was the convenient 2 min. walk to my 3 day business meeting. We did the right thing by walking out & booking immediately at the Hilton Garden Inn located exactly where I needed to be. This run around along with the added cost of 2 taxi rides means my company will never give the Woodward any of its business and I want to make sure others are aware of this unprofessional and shoddy treatment. Shame on the Woodward and its management and those so called "guests" who abused the rights of others. I hope they encounter a similar situation on their next trip. No star is the appropriate rating.

Yelp
I like it here. It's in a great area, and the staff is friendly. Check it out if you are searching for apartments.

Yelp
The building is clean and modern, the area is safe and mostly quiet and the residents are mostly young professionals, not IMF officials from France (whew!). The one disadvantage of being in such close proximity to the White House, though, is that drunken tourists feel the need to howl the spangled banner at 1:30 every morning.

Yelp
We reserved an apartment in this building for 3 nights through Priceline. When we arrived to check in, there was no reservation on file. However, the property management company, Bridge Street, charged $594.00 to our credit card even though we weren't able to stay there. We tried to contact Bridge Street by phone and email, but our messages were never returned. We made the reservation with our credit card, and the credit card company is helping us to dispute the charges. Had we used our debit card, we would have been simply out of luck. Beware, I believe this is a scam, and I don't want to see anyone else have their vacation ruined. This company, Bridge Street, is advertising beautiful apartments for short-term stays on Priceline and Booking.com that are not available.
