This hotel is everything it promises to be and more. Enter the hotel and all is peace and attentiveness. The lobby is calm and comfortable for just taking a moment to sit. The rooms are all different but have everything you need with lots of thoughtful touches. bed was so comfortable. The roof terrace has a lovely seating area, sun beds and hot tub. We lay back in there and watched the stars come out - perfect.

A wonderful experience in an exceptional hotel. The hotel is a noble house in the heart of the medieval city of Mdina, with the best views on the island. Excellent service at reception, in the rooms, and in the restaurant. Very friendly and professional. Highly recommended. Breakfast on the terrace is indescribable. From the moment we arrived at The Xara Palace until the moment we left, everything was perfection:a blend of comfort, class, and genuine hospitality. It’s everything one could dream of during a holiday. Our heartfelt thanks go to the wonderful team who made our stay so special: Silvia, Aurora, Lara, Laura, Afzal, and Nilam. Your warmth, kindness, and professionalism turned our visit into something truly memorable. Every detail, every smile, made us feel both welcome and cared for. The experience wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the haute cuisine at de Mondion. Each dish was exceptional, creative, refined, and every bit as memorable as the stay itself. When we return to Malta, there’s no doubt in our minds: we will once again stay at The Xara Palace.

What made this visit so special was the ease with which the hotel building and staff made welcome. Nothing was forced yet the personal attention was superb. The owners of the hotel have kept faith with the original palace rather than divide the building into commercial sections for maximum gain. The standard of food was remarkable. The room was more than comfortable.

I chose this hotel as I wanted to stay somewhere small and not in the large coastal resorts. This hotel couldn’t have been more perfect, such a beautiful hotel in a great location, easy to travel out to all the main Maltese attractions, but also in the heart of one of them in Mdina. The staff were all so helpful and friendly, the hotel owner also came and introduced himself and asked how we were enjoying our stay. The pool is not on site, but the hotel staff drop you off and pick you up anytime from the Xara Lodge pool which is only a 5min drive, and here you are greeted with fresh lemonade and food and bar are also available. The hotel is a real palace and we were treated like royalty! I would return to Malta, but only if I could stay here.

Mdina is quite special and this palazzo is undeniably historic, but as a hotel it feels underinvested and ill equipped. Room 14 should carry a health warning, excessively noisy, tired, dated and musty. The clincher is that the room above has a hot tub on its terrace directly over the bed area in Room 14. When the upstairs guests ran it until 11.30pm on our second night, the droning was like an idling car engine above our heads. We called reception. The only feedback we received came after I dressed and went downstairs to report the noise was still going, at which point I was told, “We phoned them, they said they would keep quiet”. There was no follow up, no knock on the door, no solution. The next day I spoke to the manager about leaving early, only after I said I would sue were we allowed to depart without penalty. Beyond the racket, the room was stale and what I would call 'genteelly shabby', and corridor noise carried. The building deserves conservation, what it really needs is serious investment to make it function better as a hotel. It is also rated five star, which is astonishing on this showing, I have lopped off stars in this review accordingly. And here is the jaw dropper, it flies the Relais & Châteaux flag. I have long trusted that badge, but this stay makes me question how rigorously the portfolio is policed. Beautiful town, beautiful shell, but as a hotel, a profound disappointment. We will not be back.

Amazing experience at The Xara Hotel. Large room with marble bathroom, wonderful view from the private rooftop equipped with a hot tub. Diner at the Mondion was really excellent, wonderful staff and service. I can only recommend this hotel, full of history, in the middle of Mdina

This is a lovely hotel inside the Medina City Gates. What makes it really stand out is the exceptional service. All the staff went above and beyond and made us feel welcome. They were very kind to our children and helped in whatever way they could. The rooms are very comfortable and we had no complaints. If you have a chance to stay here I highly recommend it. This hotel and more importantly the staff, is a gem.
