New Detroit Restaurant Opening in Corktown with Axe-Throwing, Tacos, and Beer - Eater Detroit

"Similar to the Ferndale location, the Yard at Corktown will stock more than 500 board games, and a variety of classic bar games including pinball machines and shuffleboard. The Corktown location is the only one with a large outdoor area for dining." - Monica Williams

Probably the worst service I’ve ever experienced. Both bartenders I had to deal with were incredibly rude. Took over an hour to get one tiny personal pizza and fries. When inquiring the status of our order after 50min the food staff was not friendly either. Once receiving the food, the pizza was doughy and not cooked well and the fries were stuck together and hard. You can tell from the pattern of reviews spouting of poor service that the management does not care or has no backbone to address bad behaviors. The games were fun but having such poor service is unacceptable. In addition, the staff could not find napkins anywhere. Based on the food quality, terrible service (honestly the worst service/bartenders I’ve ever encountered), and lack of basic necessities to eat, I would not return. I’d recommend going elsewhere!

I was here for a private event for my job and i had a blast. The food and drinks were amazing! This was my first time Ax throwing and I did exceptionally well thanks to the assistant/trainer who assisted me.

Had a great time at The Yard! My family was in town for a reunion and had an absolute blast axe throwing with James—he was fantastic. A special shoutout to the young woman with short hair at the front desk (I didn’t catch her name, but she absolutely deserves a raise). While I did encounter some less-than-enthusiastic behavior from other staff, she stood out with her warm, welcoming attitude and genuine kindness. She truly put the CUSTOMER in customer service. Her extra effort made our entire experience at The Yard so much better. Amid a few team members who clearly seemed annoyed, she was a bright spot that made all the difference.

A great place to hangout and play games. However the place is extremely small for the amount of people they let in. There is small sections for playing games so a lot of people are stood around waiting for spot to become available to play a game or just sit down in general. The food takes almost an hour to be made and even then you are standing around waiting to see if you food is ready because they are making food out of order.I had ticket 437 and my friend who ordered literally the same thing at the same time right next to me was order 628. My food came out an hour late and it took my friends for an hour and 47mins after mine. Someone after us food came out before us so they are not monitoring orders correctly. Once your food is ready you can sit in the small food section with a few tables, and benches, almost all of them are reserved. I asked where are people who ordered their food supposed to eat at since almost all the tables were reserved, and they said just find somewhere. There was literally was no where to sit. So almost everyone is *standing* in the small section eating their food. I had a burger which was good, but I had to stand dang near elbow to elbow with others just to eat the burger It was a nice place, but they need to make bigger space for patrons, or limit the amount of people they let in. Being over crowded, having no where to sit to play games and eat is not a good look.

Good value for 10 dollar entry. Lots of board games, axe throwing, and cornhole. Great bar selection. Although lots of things were sold out on the beer menu. Was a great place to celebrate a birthday when the weathers nice

Google
What a great place to come and have fun! It’s beautifully designed and was full of life! Corn hole, life size quarter bounce and a room full of board games that you can borrow to play. The drinks we got were excellent, especially loved the Violette Fizz. I’ll be back for sure!

Great bartenders and bar manager! Diverse game play, inside and outside. A comfortable, laid back song setting that's easy on the eyes with a large range of seating. Walk in and reservation friendly, could improve the food menu but I totally understand wanting to keep things simple. Overall a great time for all, even if you have a kid or two.

Awesome night out for drinks, games and tacos. Centered around axe throwing this bar has a vast selection of board games, outdoor corn-hole and giant beer pong. Cabanas on the outdoor patio are ideal place to enjoy the wide selection of whiskeys, tequilas and local brew. The bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly. It is a great laid back place to unwind or turn up. TRIVIA EVERY WED. & THUR. 7p-9p.

Yelp
I loved the vibes of this place! $10 cover on the weekends. You can chill and play board games or throw some axes, garbage can + volleyball pong, cornhole, etc. Food truck - easy to order from.

Yelp
Such a fun time!! There is a huge selection of board and card games, so the time flies by when you're here. I didn't try the food but we got drinks and the service was very quick and helpful! The bartenders were also very nice. There is a $10 cover on weekends but honestly it's not bad considering you could spend the whole evening there playing games with your friends, or even go for date night. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
I don't want to hear that there's nothing to do in Detroit when places like this literally exists . First of all it's such a vibe, this place is huge. So many photo opportunities if you're an Instagrammer. You can have drinks , food , do activities , watch the sunset . The options are endless. My drink and pizza was really good and of course , the pizza is Detroit style. A good place to chill and enjoy summer

Yelp
We loved it! We played Shut the Box, Yahtzee, and Scategories. Our bartender was a great person and made good recommendations. It's super fun, but quite busy. Not a bad thing for a bar!! We loved being outside in the summer.

Yelp
Neat idea, have all sorts of games you can play inside and out. Can even take board games outside. Service was nice great at outside bar. Kitchen and bar close at 11:00. Only issue was ordering food at 10:30 the guy asked for cash only, can only imagine why, reluctantly agreed to the order. Pizza and a pretzel. Came back up to the camper 5 times to pick up order and every time they asked what did you order, it wasn't written down anywhere, no order number or anything. Hence the cash.... Picked up pizza and went back up, finally another guy got the pretzel. Little ridiculous.

Yelp
The Yard is the coolest game bar in the city! With a whole entire wall of board games and axe throwing, the Yard has fun things to do with the whole family. The bartenders always have the best recommendations, I got this fruity drink with some glitter by just answering a series of questions posed by them and wow did it hit just the spot. For food, there's a mini pod in the back that serves up tacos and nachos and bowls and LOADED fries! The best bar food, but it might get a little messy especially if you're playing some board games. I always come back to the Yard and with summer coming up they redid the yard and I know it'll be the best time! Highly recommend if you're down for something fun and new

Yelp
The Yard is a great spot for literally everyone. It is a bar, game room, taco food truck spot, backyard game zone, and axe throwing center. The bartenders are really nice and there are always people clearing empty glasses from the tables. The food truck is soooo good I love the nachos and loaded fries. There is a whole wall of board games to choose from and the backyard area is really fun. They just redid part of the patio and backyard space to include some cabanas.

Yelp
Ordered a margarita with Patron Silver and instead got well tequila that had been surreptitiously poured into a Patron bottle. Tasted like a**, definitely was not Patron, and yet my bill was 'top shelf' anyway. Lesson learned: Be wary of ordering top shelf liquor at The Yard or you'll end up with a raging headache and hangover from two drinks.
