I came on a Friday, the music was great! I had a Lemon Drop Martini... it was ok, I've had better. I also got the chicken wings, they were sweet n spicy... delicious, loved them!

The York is a great stop for some good food n drinks. Atmosphere is amazing and they host a bunch of soccer games during weekends. Staff is super friendly! Forza Milan!

Google
Aston villa, New Castle, Roma fans, and more gather here for the futbol/soccer games and enjoy some food and drinks. My fiancé had a bloody Mary and liked it. Pictures below for your convenience.

Google
Food was excellent! Fish and chips, southern chopped salad were very good not over oily or done, just perfect! Siracha-Honey wings were exquisite! Drinks were okay. I wasn't clear on the service model when I walked in - there wasn't a lot of communication on how to order, who to talk to etc. It also not the cleanest place but not too bad.

The York is a no frills bar with good variety of drinks but my favorite was the Mother Earth Cali Creamin. Tastes like a creamsicle! The women wanted to try the Apple Pie cider but was sold out, settled for Apple cider in a can, and at 8% it didn't disappoint. Would come again to chill and hang out and try something new. We sis miss out on a live band but the music was decent. 👍

Google
If you are looking for a place...this is the place. Great bar staff and bar food. Vegan burger and hand cut fries. Fried chicken sandwich was good too. Really liked the grilled Broccolini. Love the atmosphere🍻

Google
Been a few times now and it's always busy. The inside is very dark yet cozy. One side has bar tables and the other has tables for larger parties. First come, first served basis. The fried chicken sandwich was delicious! Drinks are pretty good as well. The bruschetta was also great. I could've eaten 2 plates on my own.

Google
For an emergency lunch right before a meeting, this place did well. I admit, it was a Friday fish n chippy deal but I bought resist and it was quite yummy. The fries were also a bit special. And the bartender kept my ginger ale topped up - legend!

Yelp
I find it hard to believe that I have not reviewed The York, especially because I've been coming here since they opened in 2007. This hip neighborhood gastropub was founded by two friends who were former bartenders. Locals love this place and on any given day I can pop in and run into someone I know that lives in the area. The L-Shaped bar made from South American hardwood welcomes conversation. The menu is written on large chalkboards that hang on bricked line walls. The high ceilings and exposed beams emit East Coast loft vibes and the atmosphere is welcoming and unpretentious. It's a suitable place to watch sports or catch live music. (There is also a weekly jam session on Wednesday nights.) The food is good. They used to have a killer grilled cheese sandwich, but it is no longer on the menu. However, I do love their cauliflower wings. On my recent visit, mom & I sat at the bar where Faith greeted us. She was an absolute doll. Mom had the Lemon Meringue Martini, and I got a Lemon Drop. We both shared an order of hand cut fries. Both martinis were tasty, and the fries hit the spot. However, the Lemon Meringue Martini was just a little extra special, so we had another. Happy Hour: Monday - Friday 3 - 6 pm $6 Beer, Wells, & Wine Dog friendly

Yelp
I'm going to miss this place. Hope whatever takes its spot, grows on what's been established in the area

Yelp
Get your food, drink AND MUSIC on at The York. We caught a smokin' band on a cool Saturday night. The bar and well-worn booths around it were packed. A bit of a thing to order your food & drink, which must be done at the bar for all orders. Grab a number and take a seat. Waitstaff was slammed and wasn't handling the clearing of plates and glasses which were piling up. The IPA selection was decent. I ordered the Made West IPA. Food-wise, we threw down on THE CUBANO complete with crispy pickles and piled with juicy meat. A touch greasy but, for my palate, that was just right. The fries were tasty and a micro-touch moist. The cabbage slaw that they serve with it is delicious. Thanks to the talent booker there...the band we saw - CITIZEN KITTEN - was one of the best pop/jazz fusion bands we'd ever witnessed. Score!

Yelp
Came for monday night trivia night! Super fun!! Each round has a bonus question and whichever team gets it is given a free drink of choice at the bar. We got the mac n cheese and it was super cheesy and hot. Large portion!

Yelp
This place is such a dope vibe, I went on a Sunday and a variety of artists play live that are extremely talented. The service was easy and the food looks amazing. I can't wait to come back again! Parking isn't too bad, there's a good amount of street parking if you come a bit early.

Scott J.

Yelp
The York is great. It's big, comfy and cozy. The food's good. The drinks are excellent. Even the meatless options are hearty and substantial. You order from the bar, which has the regular pros and cons...you don't need to wait for a waiter, but you might have a challenge getting service if you're someone like me who avoids causing a ruckus. My kid got to watch JAWS here while having his first Shirley Temple when he was like 5 years old and still talks about it.

Mutya B.

Yelp
Very low-key, after-dinner, quiet bar you can take your date. The vibe is a cross between a gastropub and a speakeasy front. The cushioned booths are in a semicircle, and looks sort of posh. It's also pretty dark here, and quiet enough for good conversations. My group went on a Saturday before Thanksgiving week, and there were only a few patrons. They had a small but good selection of cocktails. I've only tried their Tamarindo and a martini with Lychee and they were both pretty tasty. We were seated at a long table behind the bar (the bar is situated in the middle of the space, facing one long wall west) so service-wise, you'd need to flag them down when they walked past or go around to the other side where the bar is. if you came here for privacy tho, this place is perfect *wink* While this bar is my kind of low key place, the one thing I must gripe about is parking. I just don't like Highland Park street parking in general: one hour limit on the meters? Everyone knows one must stay at least 3 hours when socializing.

Yelp
I've been going to The York for 15 years, everyone that knows me knows that this is my favorite restaurant. I have brought everyone that I know and love to this place. They have been the backdrop of countless birthday and anniversary celebrations and kept our spirits up during Covid. My mom and dad both ask to go to The York the minute they hit town, and their favorite sandwich without question is the Cuban. So, cut to today...I haven't been to The York in a while and was looking to have a Cuban after a hike today. I found out that not only have they switched ownership, the first thing that they took off the menu was the Cuban. I do hope that the new owners don't completely gut the place and change everything. This restaurant is a HP staple and while change is inevitable (especially in the food service biz), I do hope that they realize what this place has meant to the community and not continue to dismantle a local gem. Pleae and thank you.

Yelp
I used to frequent this place when it first opened. I decided to drop by Friday to see how it is now. I have no complaints; the drinks were good, and there was a live band playing Spanish music. It wasn't overly crowded, which was nice because I do enjoy having somewhere to sit. We had a great time.

Margaret H.

Yelp
We are new to the area and really enjoyed The York! Sometimes you need a nice dark, cool spot where you can indulge, or just get a good salad. The chicken caesar was fresh and delicious. Definitely going to try the burger or fish and chips next time. The tamarind margarita was fantastic as well. Casual order at the bar setup. We'll definitely be back!

Emily V.

Yelp
Stopped by for a cocktail and some apps on a Thursday evening - wasn't packed and was served fairly quickly. The bar is generally pretty dark/poorly lit. The cocktails were good and the food was alright. - Pork Belly Bites: Pretty tasty, but some pieces were overly cooked. - Fried Cauliflower: The pieces were large & in charge, so some flavor is lost as you bite into each piece. Additionally, some pieces were on the soggy side (sometimes kind of hard to avoid with cauliflower). All in all, wasn't obsessed but also didn't hate this spot. I would probably explore the other bars in the area before making my way back to this one.

Natasha D.

Yelp
Based on appearances alone, I did not expect the food to be as good as it was. Loved the fish that came with the fish and chips. The fries were okay but nothing too special. I tried the fried garbanzos and I saw where they were going with it but it was a bit too greasy and over seasoned. My friend loves the ceasar salad here. You order at the bar and someone brings out the food. The inside was a bit run down and dated but also had the charm of a dive bar. It was Friday night and there was a DJ around 9 pm. Really enjoyed the nostalgic 90s/2000s jams and wasn't so loud that you couldn't have a conversation.

Claudia C.

Yelp
The service was amazing by our bartender Bryce Kenji ! His drinks were amazing! Highly recommend this place. Appetizers were great! The service and ambience does not disappoint.

UnSweetened T.

Yelp
Sam is the shit!!!!! Sam is here, come here with Sam. Why aren't you here?! Sammmmm is summoning you. Best drinks. Best vibes.

Tiffany C.

Yelp
Cool vibe, easy parking, delicious food and tasty drinks! Our favorite drink of the night was the lemon meringue martini! I was expecting it to be tart but it was so good! The loaded fries had a wonderful seasoning and the bacon was...yum! I love that there is a parking lot behind with a well lit alley leading to York blvd just a few store fronts down. Nice place for a Friday evening appetizer and cocktail.

Angelina P.

Yelp
I came with my sister and we started our night here. While listening to the jazz band we had a delicious dinner and good drinks. As always good service. I hope to go back soon!

Paloma B.

Yelp
Just when you thought all vegetables were healthy, here comes the cauliflower wings at the York! Holy moly, were they delicious! We ordered the chili lime variety. Think about how delicious orange chicken is and then times that by a factor of 20. I don't normally eat "wings" but if they're anything like these cauliflower versions, I've been missing out big-time. Go to the York and get the cauliflower chili lime wings. Trust me on this one.

Briana J.

Yelp
one of the bartenders, a tall guy with a beard refused to make cocktails during the copa america final. went to ask another bartender & he said they were doing them.

Justin 4.

Yelp
Giving my last time there a five star review... I had not eaten here in some time but my food was great, they feature some local artists on the wall, there was a cool artists work featured the night I was there and a handsome dj who played a great two hour set... oh the artist was @cookmypants on IG I believe if you wanna check her stuff out... Back to the food... had steak frites and it was cooked perfectly. There was one part of my meal I didn't like, but now I'm not remembering... the steak was remarkable tho... I grill at home all the time and I'm a bit of a "nerd" about grilling... my steak was so good to me, I wanted to go into the kitchen and thank the person for making my $25.00 or $30 meal percent worth every dollar spent. I had a couple beers and the selection was nice. All in all, it was a great evening.

Snuggie K.

Yelp
Do not order to go food you will never get it and you show up and they blow you off manager just don't care Shitty service

John O.

Yelp
cool little pub in highland park. i went to see an artist who i had seen in another group and she was playing here. the spot is super welcoming and pretty spacious without at all feeling detached or cavernous. staff is welcoming and friendly but also unobtrusive. decided to have a vegan burger though usually i don't eat vegan. the burger was great. truly amazing and tasty on its own merits. in fact had i not known it was vegan i woulda thought it was beef. impressive as i know burgers pretty well. :) reasonably priced at $18 as well. lots of fries which were fried perfectly. i will be back. cool spot.

Mary C.

Yelp
I liked the fish and chips. First time here. Will return. Good ambiance. Love York Blvd., too. Good people watching.

Lisal O.

Yelp
Enjoyable and refreshing live band! We had a great evening! Best drummer that we know - Kenny Elliott!

Cindy Z.

Yelp
I came here for drinks and there was a line upon arrival. Note that this line is for ordering drinks as you can pick wherever you like to be seated as you please. Luckily, the line moved quickly and we grabbed our drinks for a booth indoors. The place is nothing extraordinary, but a solid spot to hang. What I appreciated most was that they open until 2am on Friday and Saturday while almost all the neighborhood bars were closed already.

Luis R.

Yelp
Omg, have not been here since 2008. The hood has changed big time but aside from that. The food aka burger is amazing, the bloody mary is majestic, and the Guinness pour is spot on!!!! In love again even though I live in paradise now aka San Diego!!! Highly recommended..... enjoy, PMA.

Kelly M.

Yelp
This is my favorite bar in the area, I don't know why everyone's complaining about how it's so dark. I don't know why everyone's complaining about how dark it is in there as it is a bar, not a library. I've had the cauliflower and the fries and both were really good for bar food. The menu is extensive and the cocktails I've had are good. Service is rough if it's busy but I don't know a bar that isn't, so it's irrelevant. There's a parking lot (paid) in the back and food trucks down the street so a good spot to bar hop.

Diana H.

Yelp
I had forgotten how much I love their dinners until my daughter and I went back.... Definitely when you want to get away and have a beer and dinner perfect place!!!

Aracely G.

Yelp
The short, latino bartender at this spot hates his job and everyone else . I tried getting his attention at the bar multiple times last night and he was so upset with everyone and so miserable . Can't explain how much of a douche·bag this guy is . I asked if there was a designated ordering area and he responded with "are you going to order a drink or not ." I told another employee who I believe said was the manager and he gave me a complimentary drink . The manager guy was really nice but he never came back to ask if we wanted to order anything else . I didn't order any more drinks or buy anything after that experience with that miserable bar tender , after that encounter with him I was hesitant to deal with the douche bag bar tender so I avoided any interactions with him which means I stopped spending money there after that . At one point I tried getting the other bartender's attention and she was in LaLa land and completely just ignored me when I asked if I could order a drink . . I was with a group is 6 or more people . We all wanted to drink more and order food but no one ever came with a menu or even made it easy to order drinks . We could've spent so much $$& but the service was so bad here . I hope they address the horrible service and make it better . On another note, The live band was great and I enjoyed my two drinks I had ordered and we called it a night .

Grace M.

Yelp
Still love coming to this place for their cheddar burger and sriracha wings!!!! I finally tried something new which was their Cuban sanwhich... and I was not disappointed! Yum! The only thing I have a problem with is their fries... sometimes they over cook it... to crispy... feeling like I'm going to chip a tooth... lol. So, I just ask them to not make the fries to crispy. They still get 5 stars from me!

Christine M.

Yelp
I used to like it here :( Currently they're playing smooth jazz- saxy, synthy-terrible. The third time in a month I've left because of the music. They used to have great music, great crowd- it's taken a turn for the worst.

Yuki I.

Yelp
Stopped by for some pre-lunch drinks here as we waited for a place to open, and we had a good time! It did take a while for our drinks to be made, but that's okay. I got the Trial separation (Los Vecinos Mezcal, Fresh Lime, Giffard Pamplemousse, Soda & Salt) - very tasty! Basically a mezcal marg! Enjoyed the nice LA weather outside with friends!

Eve M.

Yelp
Came here to meet up with some new neighbors to get to know each other and I guess we came on the wrong night... the bartender seemed bothered or uninterested, not sure, all we ordered was a beer and wine and he just seemed upset so the service wasn't great. We also had the cauliflower wings and burger which were good and came out quickly. The main thing was the jazz that was so incredibly loud, I really enjoy jazz but I couldn't even hear myself speak and we were sitting in the back of the bar. The patrons and staff that were there for the jazz seemed upset that we were trying to talk and it was so off-putting. I didn't pay a cover to come in and there was no sign that a jazz band was going to be playing on a Friday night. I grew up in highland park and the gentrification, at this bar especially, is so evident. My neighbors and I don't plan on coming back.

Avrielle C.

Yelp
From their staff to their drinks to the atmosphere the York is The perfect cocktail of: party, intimate and different. I can always count on a fun night out if it's for Sunday Jazz nights (the best Jazz I've heard in LA), trivia or rotation of art on the wall- it's a local haunt and innovative spot! Also their ( usually vegan) food pop ups are great introductions and tasty adventures. I can show up with friends or go there and make friends- from their staff at the door to the people it attracts --the York has been a treasured discovery during COVID. ** cannot recommend it more highly! **pro tip follow their insta for weekly events to stay up to date with new menu items/ events. Try the Green Mama! It's a fave and I'm ruined now. I can't get that drink anywhere else as good as theirs

Trevor D.

Yelp
Been a favorite of mine for years now. Timeless. Always a good choice if our with friends. Er'body gets happy.

Fork T.

Yelp
Once The York passed as a reliably good local bar. Lately however I have wondered if management changed or if the place is under new ownership. Service is worse. Kitchen is a flaming mess: Do not get any food. Perhaps better to buy from the ever present food trucks outside. To get to the restrooms, you have to wade through flies. The clientele can be fun, but some are barflies. The cocktails are usually good and signature cocktails are good but perhaps never taught properly to staff who read it off the wall. Music is impossible to hear. Tv screen usually plays sports or classic movies but it's in the weirdest location. The place is too dark. Only sit by windows or outside. The inner architecture has potential and should be highlighted. This place is just taking your money on auto-pilot. Make them work for it.

Kimberly A.

Yelp
It was fine. Dark on the inside and has a small patio in back. No need for me to rush back.

Madison B.

Yelp
Delicious and refreshing drinks. My friends and I came in here on a saturday night and it was near empty which was beneficial for us so we could have a conversation...surprised there weren't more people. friendly service workers and great mood in here.

Nanette T.

Yelp
My old spot, the YORK! Love this place like a fat kid loves cake. So good! Everything about The York is cool, just cool. Chill, fun, friendly and delicious food of course. I haven't ventured out to LA in a while, but stopped here over the weekend, and it did not dissapoint. It's like time stood still during covid, and picked up right where I left off. It was a nice being able to grab a bar stool, catch up with my LA friends, and enjoy a good cuban sandwich. We also dabbled with some Brussell sprout chicken wings, AMAZING! I plan on heading out to LA more frequently, while still maintaining my distance and wearing a mask of course. It's nice feeling a tad "normal" again, and the York, I thank you for helping me with that. P.S. And they filmed the Lincoln lawyer at the YORK, so you get that along with your experience, a little hollwood too!

Tim F.

Yelp
I hate to leave such a low grade but my experience was concerning. I ordered a couple drinks from the bar-back who was nice and helping me out. It wasn't until I tried to get the bartenders attention for a woman at the bar that things went south. The tall bartender got offended and was aggressive. So I went back to my cocktail table and asked to cash out. After tipping 20% I went to the bartender that I offended and tried to make amends. He was still very upset, so I wished him a blessed day. The bartender said, " Oh so your Christian now". Thats very difficult to ignore. Being the son of a Baptist preacher I told him "I was christian when I walked in". It very sensitive when religion is brought into the mix. I know some owners respond to these things, but I would like to continue dialogue with the bartender to maybe see a positive result to this experience. Thank you and God bless. Tim

Julie M.

Yelp
Came for the food. I don't drink. So if you're friends are dragging you here, and you're starving, it's going to be alright :) Affordable. Clean. The place cool. Small menu. The burger was alright. The Buffalo cauliflower was better. I was sad that they don't have the Mac & cheese anymore. My friend did not like her pulled pork because it was fatty. The staff was very kind. I wish I had more to tell you guys, but I didn't try the beers. My friend liked their beer though.

Tania C.

Yelp
Parked 31/2 blocks away, stood in line and luckily a couple left as I was at the front of the line! Yeah right? No!!! Host(Brutha with accent ) gave me the table then I had to go inside to order. Well then then said a couple took my table and needed to find another spot. He the directed me to a shit table in the back. I went outside and asked and the couple and they said he offered the table. Bad Customer service !!! Ugh I shouldn't need a man to get a great table!!!

Kenneth C.

Yelp
The fish & chips are delicious, but I went in to have the Cuban sandwich and the pork was dry and overcooked as well as having a funky smell, it's when it's about to go bad. So I didn't say anything because my wife said not to but that was the first time something like that has happened and I have been there a bit.

Traci H.

Yelp
We just received delivery from them and the food was wonderful! My partner ordered the steak and fries and I ordered the vegan burger. Finally a place that has a vegan option that is a complete vegan meal and is great! Vegan cheese & vegan aioli too! Burger was really tasty! Nice to be able to go or order from a restaurant that gives my partner options and me too! He loved the chimichuri sauce too! Pork belly bites he said were just okay. But may have been better in person. Fried options don't always travel well, so I won't knock them for that. We will definitely order again!

Ka C.

Yelp
First time coming here! I came here on a Monday afternoon, very chill and cool place! I ordered an old-fashioned, it's a little bit too sweet for me. I came here during happy hour, so it's $8 a cup which is a really good price for an old-fashioned.

Johnny F.

Yelp
The York was a pretty cool spot. Came with some co-workers after work. The food was pretty good no complaints if you understand this isn't no five star restaurant. The drinks were good as well. Only downside was there was only one bartender which made things slow. Food and drinks all went through him so took a while. Maybe if they had at least one other person could have been better. Over all I would definitely return to this location. Good little private spot in the back that was a plus.

X D.

Yelp
I stopped in for a bite to eat and ended up having the steak. It was perfectly prepared and so flavorful.

Diana W.

Yelp
Beer, food, and chill atmosphere. (And live band?) Menu is via wall or just look at yelp's menu section. Be prepared to be part of the people watch while you stare at the menu in the middle of walk ways. Ordering food at the bar was pretty inconvenient. Food was surprisingly decent for dinner. We enjoyed our fish and chips, and salad. Fries were tasty and crispy. Entrees range around $13+. Women's restroom is gross. Maybe its clean but feels dirty cause it's the same metal toilet as the public beach or parks, or jail toilets? Still usable.

Nick S.

Yelp
Used to come here all the time. Bar with good liquor and beer selection. Food used to be surprisingly good. But upon a recent visit I found the quality of the food has gone down significantly. Still a good place to grab a drink though.

Diane B.

Yelp
I was here sitting outside with my dog enjoying my drink. My dog barked because another dog approached us. The guy at the front not sure if he was the security guard told my dog to chill and that she is aggressive and told me to leave. I told him that my dog is a support dog and he didn't care. I wouldn't recommend this place.
