TheaterWorks Hartford

This is a beautiful and intimate theatre. I came here to see "English" and it did not disappoint. There are no bad seats in the house. The house manager was very helpful in directing me to my seat. I told her I had a problem negotiating steps and she personally took me to my seat. After the show, she came over to me while I was waiting for my Uber and asked if everything was okay. I was very impressed with the attentiveness of the house staff and the show was a top rate production on every level. I will definitely be back!

The place was empty, and there was just one woman there cooking. They had artificial flowers that were quite pretty on the tables, so it looked cute inside. I had a conch roti. The flavor was very nice, but it had too many potatoes inside for my taste. It came with plantains but no salad or other accompaniments for $17. My husband had shrimp Creole. It was excellent! It came with rice and peas and some vegetables that we're both very good. If we were looking for that again, we would return. Told that Mary's makes rotis as well.

Attended Christmas on the Rocks and they had to throw in a woke Elon Musk statement that of course got the crowd roaring, but I didn't appreciate it. So is it that I'm in the wrong place because I'm surely not woke. My message is this, I won't be back and I'm thinking people like me won't be back. Funny how the same people loved him when he was saving the world with electric vehicles.

Small, intimate theatre. Every seat is good. Sound excellent. Of course watching Richard Thomas as Mark Twain was magical. Oh they make their own ice cream to enjoy in the lobby! Great experience.

Amazing venue. Great time for a great cause. Celebrated World AIDS Day and all the successes and achievements our community has accomplished over the last 35+ years while honoring those we have lost. This venue was perfect and definitely recommended for any event they are hosting. Love this venue.

Monday night at Theaterworks was a delight! Packed house, but comfortable seating and easy in/out. Clean bathrooms and a well-stocked bar added to the experience. Forever Festive with Robin Fierce was phenomenal - her voice and energy were captivating! Catchy new song still stuck in my head. Note: Be cautious with parking in Hartford, as I had issues with garage hours and signage, they closed all the entry ways at 9p 🤦🏻‍♀️ It's worth the drama for the amazing show!

Lovely venue, fantastic show! First time seeing a show and really enjoyed it! The seats were big enough that we were comfortable for the show, and there are only good seats to pick from. Everyone on the staff we talked with was friendly and helpful. The restroom was spotless. I’m looking forward to going back!

At Celebrate Drag 2025- the Drag performers are absolutely amazing! What an amazing group of Drag Queens! The venue is perfect . Despite being in the bottom floor with many steps down to the theatre there is an elevator to accommodate all! Looking forward to next year!

Christmas on the Rocks is a must see! After hearing friends rave about this show I finally got there...and was I happy!! My cheek muscles hurt from smiling and laughing for 90 minutes

An amazing matinee of Fun Home. The whole cast was superb with the mother and the youngest Alison truly phenomenal. The set design and use of lighting...terrific. An intense play so be prepared for some angst and likely reflection on your drive home.

The theater is pretty small- maybe 150 seats? The seats are comfy The theater has a bar inside ( $6-$8 for beer, wine, and cocktails) You are so close to the stage, its incredible Every staff person we interacted with was terrific- smiling, friendly, helpful, pleasant as can be. On Opening Nights there is a reception with food and drinks - FOR FREE We went last night to see Debra Jo Rupp (The mom in That 70's show) perform a one woman show about the life of Dr. Ruth Westheimer. It was stellar - a tremendous 90 minute monologue that ran the gamut from funny to tragic. Not only was the Dr. Ruth on the stage terrific, but we also saw that the real Dr. Ruth was there -smiling, greeting people and signing her books to benefit Theaterworks. It was a very fun evening, and I was really impressed by how nice Theaterworks was.

Great place. Been a subscriber for nearly 25 years and its amazing what they've done. From a rented,hot, plastic chair space to now owning the building, providing art show space and a link with the New Britain museum and with a nice cafe and now adding subscriber parking! Oh and all the while proving first rate theater with a variety of performances from broadway as well as some of their own material which has moved to broadway! Well done.

I love this little theater. They have had a lot of really thoughtful and/or funny plays here over the past few years. I think they do a fantastic job with their productions and am very happy to be a contributor to their program! I always recommend them to my friends and love bringing them here for the first time. There really are NO bad seats and they make a small stage extremely versatile! You are so close to the action, you can't help but feel engaged.

I love coming to this theater. There is not a bad show I have seen and not a bad seat I have sat in. The staff are always helpful in helping me find my way to my seat despite its size. The concession is priced reasonably and never has long lines. My last play was Hand to God which had me laughing so hard. The play before that was Sunset Baby and I was beyond impressed with the performances. My favorite time to buy tickets is the very last show or the matinee on the day of the very last show. The actors seems to give better performances since it is the finale. Also, there is easy parking because it is the weekend in Hartford and no one is there. For Hand to God I literally parked out in front of the entrance doors. I love coming here and look forward to a play that piques my interests every season.

I don't know why I have not found my way to Theaterworks in the past. I've only recently seen a play and I've been missing out. I went to see The River which included a total of 4 actors. It was amazing and the best theater experience I've ever had. What I love is that the the theater is very intimate. All seats are amazing and it feels like you are part of the show. The staff are very personable and passionate about live theater. They are about to do a makeover of the facility and I can't wait to see how it turns out. I'll be back for Christmas on the Rocks and I know it will be an amazing experience.

Amazing venue for plays - very intimate setting- no "bad seats". All of the staff is quite personable and friendly. Theater has convenient location with plenty of parking around theater, as well being close to many fine downtown Hartford restaurants. One caveat - is that you have to walk down a fairly long set of stairs to get to the theater itself. Most recent play offered - Midsummer - was terrific- very creative and clever- combining music, dialogue, with a great story line- reality including the pathos and humor of reality. The two actors in the play, Rebecca Hart, M.Scott McLean, under direction of Tracy Brigden, were very engaging -in tune with their characters as well as the audience, making the play more of a personal storytelling.The play was 97 minutes long which seems like a long time for only two actors considering the dancing, music, dialogue changes of characters held me enthralled by their skill. The original music by playwrights, David Grieg and Gordon McIntyre weaved though out the play and in context of story line.

I love seeing live theater. I recently attended my first performance at TheaterWorks. When I made it down the stairs and walked into the space I had a moment where I felt like I was in New York City and going to an off-off Broadway performance. As I looked around I felt some good theater vibes. I was in a space where I could see people who were just as passionate about the theater as me. The set design for Two Rivers is amazing. TheaterWorks has a dynamic lineup of plays written and directed by seasoned and upcoming theater professionals. I saw my first play and it won't be my last.

A fan from its inception a LONG time ago, I was thrilled to bring back friends tonight for an outstanding rendition of Christmas on the Rocks. From the super clean facility and warm smiling staff and perfect venue to the actors who exude energy, emotions, intentions, and craft as consummate entertainers, I cannot recommend TheaterWorks more highly. And dinner at #Salute was a bonus!

I had been driving past this Theater for year's and decided to call and loved it how every 1st performance is Pay What U Want..So, I went on Tuesday November 28th with a "friend" and saw Christmas On The Rocks..the Theater, actors, staff were phenomenal... I'm a regular now!!!!!! You must go!

TheaterWorks has quickly become one of my favorite venues for theater, and it's not just because they happen to have put on two amazing shows that I've seen, but also because the aura of the theater is one of professionalism with a casual flare. I've seen two shows here -- The Seafarer and Dead Man's Cellphone -- and both were outstanding. Both shows were completely different, and the set reflected the company's ability to really build an accommodating scene. It's a clean, classy theater, and the options of snacks (Ben and Jerry's, food and drinks from a wine place around the corner) and coffee beverages (get the mocha!) are delicious, too. The staff is always friendly and courteous, and I recommend that if you want to start doing the theater circuit, you start here!

I attended Theater Works for the first time about a month ago. There were a bunch of local community theaters that participated in a program called "Free Night of Theater" where you could get free tickets to a show, as long as you had never been there to see that group before. I decided since I have worked right down the road from Theater Works for so song, I might as well finally check them out. Me and my girlfriend decided to make a night of it and started at dinner at Hot Tomato's. We then walked back over to the theater and saw their show "The Seafarer" which neither of us had heard of. We were so impressed with it, and how quickly the time flew while watching it. The sets were very well done, and the casting was perfect. During intermission they had a delicious coffee bar with wonderful cafe mocca's and other coffee drinks. We had such a wonderful evening we signed up to be season ticket holders there next year!! They only warning I have is they do more edgy type shows, so if you are offended easily, this might not be the group for you, look more into a group like the Little Theatre of Manchester.

I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti. This is a one woman show - actress Antoinette Lavecchia plays the author (Giulia Melucci) of the book titled "I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti".. She recounts many of her encounters while dating from adolescence through adulthood. She does this while cooking for around ten lucky audience members. She prepared antipasto salad and served it with bread, followed by a delicious salad, and finally homemade pasta and sauce. We watched while she piled flour on the counter, hollowed out a recess in the flour and cracked some eggs into the recess. She was speaking with us the entire time, she sprinkled water into the flour and kneaded it. She set it aside. Later we were treated to the rest of the process as though we were guests in her kitchen and she was recounting stories while preparing food. We had a very enjoyable time and the people we were with thought the show was excellent as well. The pasta was very well prepared and delicious. I don't know if it was because we watched the food being prepared and the anticipation made it that much better or if it was just great pasta, but I doubt I have ever enjoyed pasta more anywhere. The sauce was well prepared as well and this was done from canned tomatoes during the presentation as well. I cannot recommend this show enough. I will say, that if you are not one of the fortunate who is willing to sit up front and enjoy the product of the show, I recommend you dine immediately before. Otherwise you will surely get hungry watching all this wonderful food be prepared and consumed. Antoinette has been doing this show 7 times a week for 5 weeks. I believe she is only around for another week and a half. If you have a fellow foodie... Call them up and do what you have to do to get one of the seats in the show. You will not feel awkward, you will be entirely engaged in the show and you will have a wonderful time.

This place is awesome! It's a little theater in Hartford that plays a variety of shows. I just saw Christmas on the Rocks and it was AMAZING. It was so fun and I laughed so hard. I happened to be here on an LGBT evening so there were appetizers after the show. The theater is great and I totally recommend going. Also, you should all absolutely see Christmas on the Rocks -- it was amazing.

Always a pleasure attending one of their performances. Campo's dedication to Hartford is second to none. This is a true treasure of Hartford.

This theater is literally a "hole in the wall", but it is a gem for a serious theater goer. It is in the basement of an office building and, as you might it expect it is small. The selection of productions is diverse. You will experience everything from musicals to experimental drama. The quality of the work is excellent. The theater is planning a renovation for the spring of 2019 to upgrade the seating, bathroom facilities and dressing rooms for the actors. They will also put in a better elevator for the patrons with walking issues. This is clearly a theater that you should take a serious look at. I do not think that you will be disappointed.

Great shows and they have a student discount. Hint- if you are a student they let you buy additional tickets for the show with the discount. The cafe they have is nice and sells snacks, coffee, wine. I recommend Bin 228 wine bar across the street for a snack before or after the show!

Small, intimate theatre setting. A great way to experience the arts. Ticket options are reserved or general admission. With general admission you come in and choose your own seats from what's available outside of already reserved seats. Come early for the best pick of seats. Coming late like we did, our party of four was split up. Of the general admission seats there are several that have an obstructed view. Staff is attentive and helpful. All shows I've seen here have been remarkable.

Saw The Raging Skillet,' adaptation of Chef Rossi's book. Josh (theater manager) and Robert (house manager) and every person on staff could not have been more professional and accommodating. I'll be back for more great theatre... worth the hour plus drive from Westchester Co, NY... and then some.

Saw The Santaland Diaries here last week. What a great little theater! The staff was so kind and friendly and the show was wonderful! Will definitely come back. My friends and I all remarked about what a great time we had and how we needed to go to more shows like this in the future. Highly recommend!

Our friends introduced us to this amazing place tucked away in Hartford. Tiny theater with the most amazing productions! My husband and I love the theater and we travel to NYC of course but throughout CT for some of the best entertainment. We can honestly say that this venue is the BEST! Next to Normal blew us away. A musical on this tiny stage? How can this be? Well, it was wonderful. We are now subscribers and are looking forward to going to the next production. This place is a gem!

This is a great small theater. There really isn't a bad seat in the house, however unless you have reserved seats you will rarely be sitting in the "premium" spots. We have seen multiple plays here and always enjoy the intimate setting. Highly recommended!

If you haven't seen The Legend of Georgia McBride, go. Great production. Fun evening.

I can't say I've ever been let down by a show here, but I have to knock off a couple stars because of TheaterWorks' appalling reservation system, or lack of one. I'm not sure if the intent of is to make the theater experience more "intimate" by requiring patrons to phone for tickets (no online ticketing), but adding insult to inconvenience is no reserved seating, effectively forcing patrons to fight for their seats. Who wants to show up an hour early just to claim a seat? It's true there's hardly a bad seat in the place, but it's still really inane.

Great experience with Mrs Mannerly, superb production for a small theater. Very professional. First time at Theaterworks for all 4 of us, came 50 miles, will come again.

we have been season ticket holders for 5 years. You cannot appreciate the quality of production and the quality of acting without going. Convenient parking, handicapped friendly, and a staff that goes out of their way to make the day memorable

Intimate venue. No bad seats in the house. Great flexibility for season tickets with a parking pass for easy parking. The excellence of the play selection and the quality of the productions continues to amaze me. This is theater as it was meant to be and at itsbest!

Took the kids to see Third last night at Theaterworks. Excellent, well written and funny play. Really enjoyed it. Anyone who has dealt with an elitist college will really enjoy this!!! Especially if, like me, you have kids getting ready for college they will get sooooo much out of it.
