The multi-million dollar transformation of the city block, formerly Reading Cinemas Gaslamp, is a partnership between Hollywood’s historic TCL Chinese Theatre and Sugar Factory, which runs glitzy eateries around the globe. I don't like providing negative reviews but there were so many things that lowered the rating at the theater box. When we arrived, the lobby was under maintenance and it looked rather abandoned. The guard was very helpful and gave us directions to where the theater was located (upstairs via the elevator). When we got inside, none of the overhead lights were on so it was very dark and we were informed that particular theater room had not had functioning lights for a while, the trays at our seats were not clean. Since we were the first to arrive for the movie, we asked to have them wiped down but it was a little while before they came through. It's a full service theater that provides a selection from the Sugar Factory downstairs but only one of the 2 seats' service buttons worked. It was a while before someone actually came to take our order. The main screen was dirty, or possibly damaged, so the picture quality was not great and during quieter moments in the movie we could hear the sounds from the adjacent theater showing through the wall. I'm sure some of these things are due to Covid creating budget issues but this theater needs updating in a lot of ways.

Terrible experience. The a/c was off and they couldn't turn it on, so it was uncomfortably hot. They didn't do any food or drink service until about an hour into the movie, so I had to miss part of the movie getting drinks myself. Lastly, the light in the projector room was on. They said the only person who can turn it off was the manager, and the manager wasn't in that night, so we had a bright light shining behind us the entire time. Given how much we paid, this was perhaps the worst movie going experience I have had. It looks like I'll be going to The Lot next time.

AMAZING experience, you order food in your recliner, and they have so many gourmet food options, specialty desserts and drinks. They also have a restaurant downstairs!! Highly recommend for a fun theater experience. 🤩🤩🤩

It’s a really cool setup, but man please get organized and clean up! When I got there, I had no idea how to go inside. Finally found it, staff was friendly. I enter the bathroom and it was a disaster. It was filthy and badly needed to be cleaned. Went in the theater, it was FILTHY and gross. Clearly hasn’t been cleaned in awhile. Popcorn everywhere and considering I had a 12pm showing, it was obvious it wasn’t cleaned from the night before. Come on now. Thank goodness for my sanitation wipes!

Yikes. I need a shower after going to a movie here. Popcorn machine not running, but there are buckets of popcorn under every chair in the theater. Clearly nobody is cleaning this place regularly. Trash in chairs and residue on the trays. Also, someone had to go and remind them to start the movie. Screen was blank until 5 minutes after showtime. Someone needs to manage this place.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! 1) They don’t have popcorn or concessions. What movie theater doesn’t sell popcorn!!?? 2) The bathroom was disgusting and dirty 3) Theater #7 was FREEZING cold and we asked them to turn the air down and they said they couldn’t because people would complain. HELLO!!!!??? We were complaining about how cold it was!! My husband and I both had coats on and still froze through the entire show. I put two masks on to try to warm up my nose, put my hood on, put my purse over my lap to warm part of my legs, and kept my hands in my pockets…..it was eff’n COLD!! We will NEVER go back!

This theater is laughably bad. We couldn't even find it until we asked the downstairs restaurant for directions. When we did find it, there was no one to greet us, or to check if we even purchased tickets. Someone eventually came and just told us which theater to go to. The theater itself was hot and uncomfortable, so we had to flag someone down and ask them to turn on the AC. They were not providing any drink or food service. Movie was good though I guess.

Only reason it gets 1 star is because the projector actually works. This is the third chance I gave this place and it still needs a ton of work. The place is always extremely dirty all the time and poorly managed. Like zero sign there is even a management staff. Good luck getting service while at your seat. This place takes the luxury out of “luxury viewing experience” they claim on their website. It’s definitely an “experience” you’ll wish never had at a movie theater.
