The Best New Orleans Restaurants for Gluten-Free Dining - Eater New Orleans

"Theo’s allows diners to substitute gluten-free pizza crust on any 10-inch pizza for $4.50. With build-your-own or specialty pizzas with options for red sauce or olive oil, it’s hard not to find a pie that suits the mood. The crust tends to be thinner and crispier than most. Locations in Uptown, Mid City, Elmwood, and Metairie." - Clair Lorell, Stephanie Carter

PURPLE BOY

Google
This is my second visit to Theo's. I made the long walk from my B&B and it was so worth it. I love their cracker like crust...if you're a fan of that style you'll love Theo's. Plus they have other stuff that sounds really good too. A handful of good brews on tap. We went back in November one day when the Saints were playing and beers were like 2 or $3. Homemade cookies. Super nice staff, great chill atmosphere. Both times I got some the Za with anchovies, prosciutto, and arugula...Killer!

Most disgusting pizza i have ever eaten looked like a 7 year old put together the pizza the vegetables were just thrown on to the pizza and it was so raw and ugly unappetizing absolutely disappointed

One of my first stops whenever I come to New Orleans. A fun, fern bar styled interior, super friendly staff, and great people watching when you sit in the front window. The super thin crust on the pizzas is delicious, and their house made dressings on the salads is the best. I decided to be adventurous on my last trip and ordered the Olive Oil and Cane Vinegar dressing. It was so good, and I can't stop thinking about it! I guess I need to head back that way soon!

Google
Hit the spot! I absolutely loved Rebo's super soaked salad. Chock full of flavor, perfectly dressed. Ordered a large 1/2 and 1/2 pizza. It was hot and cheesy when I picked it up. The sauce is amazing! Highly recommend.

Google
My favorite pizza place in New Orleans was superb last night. The staff were all so kind and welcoming. We ordered a custom toppings pizza and it was perfect. So delicious. I highly recommend Theo’s Pizza.

Google
Great little pizza dive! Fabulously crispy thin crust. Warm, soft bread sticks. And meaty well-done wings! We’ll definitely be back!

Google
By far the best pizza I've ever had in New Orleans. The wait staff is very friendly and very accommodating. Everyone is so polite. Don't miss out on this place. Loved it, gave it five stars because 6 isn't an option.

Everything was great except the added sausage was not easy to find on the pizza (this time).

Yelp
I ordered Theo's online for pickup. My family is just visiting New Orleans, and tonight we just wanted something we could take back to our AirBnb for a late dinner. Theo's was GREAT. We got there earlier than the pickup time for our pizza, so no surprise it wasn't ready. The young ladies working were extremely helpful and friendly. I'd love to return and dine in. I LOVED the crispy crust on the pizza. Too often pizza crust is soft and doughy, but the crispness is crispness of this was great. We had a cheese pizza and one with pepperoni and Italian sausage. As thin as the crust is, it would hold up well to more toppings. The taste of everything was on point. Loved the pizza and the service.

Yelp
Oh my God... Read reviews on yelp and wanted to go to this restaurant... It did not disappoint. As a matter fact we've gone to several pizza places in New Orleans, and this is by far THE BEST! It was a Wednesday night so things were pretty chill. We had an awesome waitress, DD, who really made everything super comfortable and easy for us. Give us a different tasting of wine so we ordered a bottle and then a pizza... It was just a great evening highly recommend Theo s pizza! We will definitely be back! But sincere thank you to DD for making the experience. Wonderful.!

Yelp
This is a small neighborhood pizza place tucked right in along other storefront businesses on Magazine Street. There is both indoor seating and a few tables for outdoor seating. You place your order at the counter and get your drinks and then pick your table and they bring your food to you when it's ready. They have two sizes of pizza, 10" and 14". They have a good variety of options on the menu from create your own to signature and vegetarian pizzas. They have salads and sandwiches also. The breadsticks are good but an order of 4 is basically 2 breadsticks cut in half! We had 4 large soft drinks and a 14" create your own pizza. The pizza was really good the crust is thin but light and fresh tasting. They are pricey, $60+ for a pizza four drinks and basically 4 breadsticks is kinda a lot. But it was still good!

Yelp
All these years and still no vegan cheese had not been here in some time. I just can't! Employee proceeds to tell me how expensive it is which is not true. It's a commodity and ubiquitous at most pizza places. Eye roll. Come on Nola do better!

Yelp
While on vacation for the holidays we decided to do a little uptown crawl. After hitting up a few bars we were starving. Happened to walk by Theo's and decided why not pizza? I'm glad we did! We had the all meat pizza, it was so good and fresh out of the oven. Crust was perfectly thin and crispy (but not burnt). As an added bonus on Wednesday's they do half off bottles of wine with several to choose from. There were 3 of us who split the pizza and bottle of wine. It was just enough and even ended up with a slice leftover. All that for $45. Such a great deal!! They were really busy however the service was still fast and very friendly. Worth a do over for sure.

Yelp
First time going to Theo's. Gives great local vibes for a pizzeria. Extensive menu so there's plenty of options for everyone. Service was really good and staff was friendly. The pizza came out pretty fast, maybe a 10-15 minute wait for two pizzas. The toppings were fresh, with the artichokes being the best part. Parking can take some time since it's on magazine street but this particular night on a Wednesday, street parking was not hard to find. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a pizza night with the family or something to pick up after a long day of work.

Yelp
Greek and caprese salad are both excellent. Arugula and prosciutto pizza was perfect. This place used to be my go to for a meatball sub, but after expanding my selection, I've found that all the food here is consistently good.
google avatar

Amber C.

Yelp
First time here. Super friendly and helpful staff. Pizza was good too. Definitely will come back.

Yelp
I ordered a large pepperoni pizza for pickup. I picked it up exactly when I was told it would be ready. But upon tasting it, it seemed like it had been left out for over an hour. Very disappointing. I also found it somewhat off-putting that they asked for a tip over the phone before I even had a chance to assess the quality of the food or service.

Jill B.

Yelp
I've enjoyed the pizza here for years....2009- I INSIST on theos pizza for all my birthdays OR anytime I feel like spoiling myself. It's never disappointed. In fact, it's only gotten better. As an example, I came to pick up an order today (9/26/23), and the staff (Dee Dee (at the helm)) remembered me. And since it was my birthday, they went above and beyond. This is the spirit of New Orleans, embodied in the BEST PIZZA you will ever taste!
google avatar

Franda T.

Yelp
Great pizza spot on Magazine Street. Super friendly staff. The pizza was delicious as were the wings. My new pizza joint! Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Kyle C.

Yelp
Quick pickup. I ordered the "Hippie" pizza with chicken and it was delicious. The gal at the front counter was utterly nice and welcoming. Will def. return soon.
google avatar

Corrie P.

Yelp
Terrible pizza & terrible service makes for a terrible meal. So many better pizza joints: Pizza Delicious, pizza Domenica, Tower of Pizza, Mid City Pizza, Nola Brewing- all of which have better quality ingredients & more substantial pizza. If you like Dominos thin crust- Theo's is perfect for you.
google avatar

Lester P.

Yelp
Was next door at the wine store and decided to grab a pizza. I order a Caesar salad and a pepperoni and sausage pizza. First the Caesar salad was fantastic!! The croutons were like a cracker that were delicious and salad was fresh. Secondly the pizza was a thin crust with Italian sausage that was one of the best I've had ever!!! I will definitely be back when I'm in Nawlin's!!
google avatar

Arnesto S.

Yelp
First time at Theos.. the ambiance is quaint and the people very friendly. Cool to watch them making pizza in the background. We ordered the Meathead pizza and was pretty good. Firmly enjoyed the place.
google avatar

Jason H.

Yelp
This place is the greatest! I didnt have their pizza, but the cheese bread was great. The employees are friendly and helpful. This is the type of place tourists can go and be loud, but maybe not wild. Definitely recommend.

Ron S.

Yelp
My son and I had been out for a walk in the Garden district and were quite tired, thirsty and had to use a bathroom. I wished we could have tried the pizza but we had beer and soda before we started on our journey again. The young man at the counter was very friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Yelp
What convinced me to try this pizza place was its selection of specialty pizzas (many vegetarian-friendly). I was rather disappointed with the wait time, close to forty minutes for a pickup order on a night when they were not overly busy. The pizza itself was a mixed bag. The crust is very thin, and the two specialty choices I split my pizza with were both a little onion-y for my taste. However, the other flavors were interesting, notably one heavy on artichoke, and the stuffed breadsticks I got on the side yielded a bit of that bread fix that the super thin crust did not. All told, I might try them again (more likely one of their other locations) and order something else to try, but I wouldn't rush back.

Cody E.

Yelp
Solid pizza joint, especially if you like thin crust like I do. We got the BBQ chicken pizza with no purple onions. Good sauce, not overpowering like some bbq sauces can be on pizza. The Anaheim peppers on it were the perfect mixture of sweet and spicy. The staff was great. You also get a big cup for fountain drinks, so less refills. Not the mention they have Cherry Coke.
google avatar

Mari G.

Yelp
Great customer service. We had a large party of 10+ ppl. They accommodated us well. Pizza was served fresh, fast, and it was exquisite
google avatar

Yelp
Very good pizza. I'm not a thick crust person and I enjoyed Theo's. It's kind of a hand tossed; not super thin, not super thick. So far, my favorite crust in NOLA. Pizza's disappoint me with hard, thick, burned or super-bready crusts. I'd LOVE a good ultra-thin NY style slice, but, haven't found a great one. I'll go back!

Mike K.

Yelp
We order from Theo's almost on a weekly basis - usually on Friday nights. Sometimes we get it delivered but will often stop in to pick it up on the way home. The pizza is always perfectly done and always on time. It's our go to for pizza in Nola. But I think the thing I like better, or at least as much as the food - are the great people. Just very nice, polite, engaging and fun. If you want can't miss pizza that the whole family enjoys - Theo's is perfect.
google avatar

Beth A.

Yelp
Awesome people and I loved the laid back atmosphere! We got a delicious margarita pizza and Greek salad.

Mary Anne M.

Yelp
I LOVE thin crust pizza and Theon's has it along with a great tomato sauce base. Love sitting in the bay window and watching Magazine strollers pass by.
google avatar

Mely M.

Yelp
Theo's is a wonderful place. The staff is always friendly and they are happy to accommodate requests. The pizza is memorable, delicious, and consistent. Staple neighborhood spot on Magazine with a casual atmosphere. Get it to go or hang out and have beer/wine. Can't go wrong with this one! Their house salads are also a fabulous. We love Theo's!
google avatar

Sandra G.

Yelp
I'm rating this place 5 stars because we just happen to stumble upon it and I have to say best place to have found. Friendly staff and helpful when they could see we were not sure what to get for our table of 3. Not a pricy place very reasonable prices. Plenty of space and even outside sitting, over all clean place.
google avatar

Darrell M.

Yelp
I checked out Theo's on one of my last night's in NOLA and it was about a mile walk from my hotel, which is a trek that I didn't mind. I arrived when it was pretty empty and quickly ordered my pepperoni pizza. It took about 25 minutes to arrive which seemed like a long time for a thin crust pizza. The pizza was okay. It had good cheese and pepperoni, but it was a little overdone (and maybe burnt by most standards) and a little too crunchy. I would have liked it taken out about five minutes earlier. I like that they used chipped ice in their soda, that's always pretty refreshing. The staff was courteous and friendly and the prices were reasonable. The restaurant was also incredibly clean, which is always nice. I'll probably visit again when I'm in the St. Charles area of NOLA.

Yelp
Rating for my experience on a Tuesday evening. Great deal on Tuesdays as draft beers are $1.50. A selection of 6 beers including Abita Strawberry and a Crying Eagle IPA. To top it all off, the pizza is delicious as well. Most pizzas run about $15 for a 10" pizza and about $20 for a 14" pizza. Every pizza that I tried was good. The Westbank especially if you like a spicy Hawaiian pizza. On Wednesdays, bottles of wine are half off. Not a lot of large tables but most tables can seat at least 4 people.

Yelp
After hearing raves from younger family members, we tried Reginelli's Pizza tonight. Wait, isn't this the "Theo's Pizza" page? Well yes it is, and Theo's is where we should have gone tonight ! Theo's, our usual neighborhood pizza joint, right up the street, has better pizza, better salad, better service, and better prices. Oh, and the service is much quicker, too. Don't you make this same mistake. In New Orleans, It's THEO'S for pizza. You have been warned ! Rick
google avatar

Kevin R.

Yelp
Had the meat pizza and pretzels. The service was great and pizza was good. Good place for kids. We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Theo's Food Truck! Yep, that's a thing. While recently at the Courtyard Brewery, this food truck was hanging outside serving the masses. They only had basic types of pizza on hand that day but the slices were quite big and tasty for the price. It surely got the job done and was the perfect antidote for hunger while sipping on brewskis.

Yelp
Pretty great pizza, I'm never one to look at pizza too critically, especially New York thin crust inspired, I love it all. My hotel was nearby and needed a late night fast dinner, so this was an open restaurant that had pizza to-go. Was ready within 20 minutes, piping hot, crispy thin crust, so yummy, definitely hit the spot. Was on a cute street, in a cute shop--I'd love to go back and explore the area. If I am back anytime soon, I would absolutely go there again to eat in this time.
google avatar

Evan G.

Yelp
Delicious food. Ordered a salad with creamy Italian dressing that was awesome. It was a blend a blend between ranch and Italian. The wings were also flavorful and good...especially with blue cheese to dip them in. We ordered a marilynn pizza 14" that easily fed three. Generous toppings and great crust.
google avatar

Yelp
Who goes to a pizza joint and doesn't get pizza? This guy, that's who. When I was invited to eat lunch with some Yelpers a while back, Theo's was the location they suggested. Excited to try a new place, I happily agreed. Despite proclaiming themselves a pizza joint in their name, Theo's also serves up pretty good sandwiches. I was slightly reluctant when I read that the sandwiches are toasted for 15 minutes, but my fear of a burnt sandwich were unfounded. I opted for the pepper jack chicken sandwich. The combination of fajita style chicken and pepper jack cheese on the white hoagie roll was very good. Although it came with chips, the sandwich was more than enough food. I thoroughly enjoyed my sandwich, but need to come back and try their pizza. If you're in the area and want a good, casual lunch spot, I encourage you to try Theo's.

Yelp
I love Theo's Pizza!!! This is probably my favorite pizza place around. The thin crispy crust makes me a very happy eater. I enjoy the wide range of interesting combinations they offer. The Eccentric & the Spicy Mexican are two of my favorites but my usual fix is the Hippy with either chicken or meatballs added. I always get a side of their tasty marinara to dip my crust into; although often it isn't needed I still love the sauce and will just drink it! I also really love their ice as it goes so well with their iced tea and I think it might be the best ice in NOLA and I want to find out what kind of machine makes it as I want one. They also have good beer and wine specials. The sandwiches are very tasty but maybe a bit overpriced for their size. The salads have always been very good also. I have heard a few negative reviews from some of my friends about the Canal Street location with their crust not being done properly but I've never had a problem at the Magazine Street location.

Yelp
SO I CELEBRATED MY LDL'S BEING BELOW 90 TODAY at Theo's with a "Meathead" pizza. I prefer this pie because there isn't a square milimeter that isn't covered with some pig or cow part (see pic). Many bites are stacked-up with both crumbled sausage and hamburger bathing in the grease of a cupped pepperoni sliding atop a chunk of canadian bacon. Woof! The crust is thin and deliciously butter rich. A 10" will set you back $16 after-tax. But it is filling and easily 2 meals. PIG & COW PARTS EVERYWHERE Of course now I'm talking about the plump patrons. The pizza is obviously stellar because the staff are usually the only fit people on site - but what better testimony?! ONE TACTICAL SUGGESTION: Theo's should go 100% counter service. Move the fountain drinks, water and tea out from behind the register into the dining room. More efficient & user friendly.
google avatar

Lin F.

Yelp
Grilled cheese sandwich with three types of cheeses, sourdough bread, add tomato & basil for another 1.40$ so delicious! 5* paired with blue moon draft...fruit the beer with orange slices. Sweet spinach salad, dressing was unique in that it was a thicker balsamic (reduced? Or thicker from honey?) cheese was goat!! Much better than feta. Walnuts, cranberry, purple onion combo. 5* Too bad you gotta go to the bar to order dishes, refill drinks, & re-order beer. Self seating, nice wait staff will clear your table when you're finished. Ambience nice, airy, neat brick & pipe plumbing decor.
google avatar

Meaghan S.

Yelp
Cozy, yet lively spot for homemade pizza! You go up to the bar in the back and order at the counter, which wasn't my fav, as it's not so obvious. The staff seems to patient and easy going though. Every single bite of the pizza was amazing! My husband doesn't eat pizza crust usually, but he ate the crust at Theo's. The ambiance is very casual, and the dimmed lighting makes it pretty cozy. A true neighborhood feel, which we loved.
google avatar

Eddie C.

Yelp
I have so many pizzas that I love, but hands down best service of the uptown pizza joints is this Theos. The staff is the difference. Once, our specialty pizza of the day apparently was burnt in the lower oven and they comped us a round of free drinks without us asking. Classy indeed. The crazy thing is my sweets and I chat and giggle so much anyways we didnt even notice the extra length in time. The crust is right, the toppings are all awesome. Dont pass up the pizza of the day either, you might miss an awesome combination! Beer selection is good and atmosphere is chill.
google avatar

Kirsten B.

Yelp
Wide selection of bottled, fountain, and brew drinks. Intimate place but it looks like pick-up area can become tight packed. Pizza was pretty good, (7/10) but took forever to come to the table despite it being slow. Overall, not a bad place to visit, but don't come here for a quick bite.

Mmm B.

Yelp
What makes these pizzas good, is the crust it's thin so you can taste all of your toppings
google avatar

Charlotte H.

Yelp
To be honest, their by-the-slice was one of the worst pizzas I've ever had. Their actual pizza was way better, but hardly good. Bad night for them, maybe? Mostly for us. Ruinous Also don't get the wine. I'm pretty sure it is a 4pz pour for way too much money
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Omg!!! Theo's pizza on magazine is like a horror movie taking place in a school yard. 13 Children running about screaming and management who will do nothing about it. In fact management told me to leave when I complained. AVOID!!!!!!! An absolute nightmare!!
google avatar

Maurice A.

Yelp
The people at theo's are very nice. I ordered a small chicken pizza which was horrible. The pizza just tasted very bland. Also, the sweet tea tasted a bit like mop water. I wouldn't recommend eating the pizza or sweet tea.
google avatar

jenn m.

Yelp
My favorite pizza in town but too often they mess something up. Burn the pizza & ask if you still want it & charge full price. Sometimes it's as if there's no sauce on it at all. forgetting salad dressing. all of these things drive me crazy, but if you're lucky enough to get a perfectly made pizza (that happens 80% of the time) then you will be so happy!
google avatar

Rob C.

Yelp
Came here on a whim. You order at the counter and they give you a table marker and bring the food to you. I got a personal size pepperoni pizza and a bottle of Coke (Mexican style with sugar). My table marker was Patrick Swayze. Pretty cool. I sat outside and the pizza came out not long after. Pizza was great... Nothing fancy just goes pizza. The girl working came and checked in as well after a few minutes which was a nice touch. Overall I'd recommend this place. Nothing gourmet, but great for what it is.
google avatar

Karen S.

Yelp
If you like thin crust pizza, then this is for you. They do an absolutely amazing job. The Jammer's Original is my favorite, best pizza I've ever had. It's a regular pie topped with canadian bacon, feta, mushroom, onion, and banana peppers. Sandwiches are good, too, though they don't stand apart from the competition as much as the pizzas do. Biggest downside I've experieced is some of the specialty pizzas are pretty out there...buffalo chicken pizza was so salty it was inedible, for example. Would get 5 stars other than that.
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
Yummy Hippie pizza tonight. But what is up with parents bringing their kids to restaurants to let them run amok. Made me want to trip the little angels. Tonight was also $10 bottle of wine night.
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
I love theos. Solid thin crust pizza with a classic tasting sauce and dough. Come here regularly and always enjoy it. However in my recent trip in trying to get the high score on Theo's pac man machine I was upset to find that Theo's no longer pays for the licensed pac man version. The one in your store is now much slower and not the classic pac man - either your Namco license expired and they put in a non licensed version or they somehow swapped it for a cheaper pac man iteration. Very disappointing!!
google avatar

Velour P.

Yelp
Really delicious pizza. I have ordered from here 3 times so far because it's so close to my new house. The pizza toppings are really good and I appreciate the diverse selection in pizza options but I will say that all 3 times my pizza crust was over cooked. The pizza was still good but it would be GREAT if it wasn't overcooked !
