The Best Gluten-Free Restaurants in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Theo’s allows diners to substitute gluten-free pizza crust on any 10-inch pizza for $5.50. With build-your-own or specialty pizzas with options for red sauce, pesto, or olive oil, it’s hard not to find a pie that suits the mood. The crust tends to be thinner and crispier than most. Locations in Uptown, Mid City, Elmwood, Metairie, and Covington." - Beth D’Addono

Google
Great tasting pizza, has a seasoning on it that sets it apart from other places. Crust is somewhere between crisp and chewy. The Monday deal for pizza is hard to beat. Not sure I’d buy their pies at full price though. Service was a little less friendly than I’d hoped. Otherwise a good stop.

Google
I ordered two cheese pizzas online at 8:10PM after attending an open house for school. The promise time was 8:40PM. The location closes at 9PM, so I was a little worried about them being in a rush, but everyone was super nice and friendly.

I arrived today at 11:13am before the lunch crowd hoping to get my food expeditiously and return to work within my lunch hour. There was only one table occupied at the time. I placed an order for a small Westbank Special pizza and I was assigned the “Mac Miller” table marker. I provided an advance tip (big mistake) and then sat at a table to wait on my food. It took the pizza 51 minutes to arrive at my table. A couple that was seated after me received their pizza before I did. Upon receiving my pizza I had to box it up myself and forage in the car for food as I traversed traffic on the interstate in order to return to work within the allotted hour, which I was of course late getting back to the office. I am not sure when Theo’s service and cooking speed degraded to this point - - but it appears to be a problem that is irrevocable.

Went there. A few days ago and got the pepperoni and the supreme. Pepperoni was great. The people that ate the supreme ranged from average to good. Also had the house salad and the cheese bread. Both of those were good too.

Google
I don't know who is getting screwed with Uber Eats delivery, but a small cheese pizza, a small supreme pizza, and a small house salad should not cost $70 w/ tip for delivery. Nothing against Theo's except the menu on Uber eats doesn't seemed priced right. Last time ordering pizza on UberEats.

Google
We usually order from Theos. However, recently Metairie store has been sorely lacking in quality. The small chicken pesto was skimpy on toppings and clearly over backed. In the past, it was tasty and sumptuous. The large pepperoni was not quite as over baked but still disappointing. So sad because we used to go there often. Will not go back. Too many other choices.

Google
Consistently great pizza and service. Good deals on beverages. My favourite is "the expert" but I like it with added pepperoni. Not cheap but it's good.

Google
FIRST VISIT: FANTASTIC!!!! Visited with my grandkids and was greater as soon as we entered by someone at the counter. Discovered her name was Ayanna and she is still in training. IF it were not unethical, as the H.R. Director of Fedex locally I would certainly try to pull her to us. Her professionalism, knowledge of the system, and her general customer service makes her priceless in this current labor condition. Please encourage her to move up and into some for of a leadership role. I explained all this as well in person to the restaurants Gen.Mgr.Hailey. Keep up the great work. We will be back. Cj

Yelp
I love this location. The team are fast and efficient. My nephews love the wings. They are always so flavorful and yummy. The Pesto Chicken Pizza is my go to. It's baked to perfection. I adore the Theo's house salad. The house dressing is my favorite.

Yelp
Beware this location. We ordered 2 large Caesar salads ($14 each) and 2 large pepperoni pizzas. We tipped when we placed the order & in the future will tip after the meal. The salads came out with next to no salad dressing, there was no dressing visible at all. We asked for some dressing and they brought out 1 cup for each salad and delivered a bill with it. When we had them look at the salads and they could see there wasn't any dressing on it they backed off on the bill and apologized. Do they do this on purpose? No dressing on the salad so they can charge for it? We noticed other people with salads requesting salad dressing too.

Yelp
Their pizza is delicious. Very consistent and the staff is very nice! I love the drink promotions that they have and Tuesday is $2 draft beer and I love their selections of draft. Also, their Caesar salad is SO tasty. I loved the pita chips that serve as the croutons. So good. It's a nice clean place too and filled with families and people of all ages.

Lilly Millie B.

Yelp
A very wide variety of pizzas and salads for a good price. I love how they have a lot of unique options and my favorite right now is the chicken pesto pizza. Spinach salad is also really good. Staff is nice and a fun place to eat with family or large groups.

Yelp
I ordered the lunch special, which is a 10" single topping pizza and a drink. I added jalapeños and black olives. It was fast, hot and absolutely delicious! When I returned to my office after work with leftovers, a coworker begged me for what was left. I'll definitely be back!

Tracy B.

Yelp
Loved the pizza, the crust was amazing. The only thing is the place has no ice all the drinks are bottled.

Kathy G.

Yelp
This is probably the worst service I have ever received at any restaurant. I had my grandkids and they wanted pizza so I called at 6 o'clock and ordered a large cheese pizza. I was told it would be 45 minutes. I arrived at 6:45 to pick up the pizza. They had my name, but no order The young man who took my order told me that the order didn't go through, but I could order again and it would be 45 minutes. I explained that I had hungry kids in the car and did not have time to wait another 45 minutes. Needless to say, I did not re-order and will never go back there again. I did not want to review the restaurant Saturday night because I was so angry. Beware, if you order from Theo's, your order may not go through.

Lacey D.

Yelp
I was looking forward to Theo's pizza as I had not had it for a long time. It was okay, but not good or great. The crust was thin and not soggy but not really crispy either. The amount of toppings was uneven- some pieces had a lot and some much less. Overall its unlikely that I would come back again.

Callan P.

Yelp
well frankly i'm quite disappointed. i heard a lot of great things about this place however i received terrible treatment. firstly they came over and asked "if i was done" with an empty plate. secondly they took 40 minutes to make ONE caesar salad. why the frick did they take 40 minutes to mix 3 ingredients together.

Yelp
Staff was great, food was good. Most importantly, my wife is going through chemotherapy so food has not been good for her for the last few days and today her pizza was the first good thing she has eaten. She loved her pizza, it was so right up her alley. Thank you for giving my wife a delicious meal

Sherie D.

Yelp
Ordered a pizza and a club sandwich. Picked up pizza was cold, way overpriced for a 10inch pizza. When I ordered it stated pick up was at 5:10, I picked it up at 5:05 was cold and like cardboard. When I got in my car looked for the salad. They forgot to give it to me. When I complained about the pizza was told that we measure the ingredients. This 10 inch pizza was $19.25.

Robert H.

Yelp
The three people that ate the supreme said average, above average and good. One said they like more stuff than what was on it. I ate the pepperoni. I very good pepperoni thin crust pizza. The staff was very helpful as I had to adjust my order as two more people came than I was first expecting. They checked on us and kept our waters filled. We also had the house salad and cheese breadsticks. Both were solid too. 4-5 stars when getting the pepperoni but I'll leave it at 4 with the supreme.

TJ F.

Yelp
Even though I live less than a mile from here, I never tried Theo's until very recently. I stopped by a couple weeks ago and had a turkey sub sandwich. It was incredible! Thinking I was just hungry I decided to stop in for another turkey sub a few days later. I was pleasantly surprised. It was outstanding again. A week went by and another sandwich was had. Guess what? Good again. This week I stopped by and tried the pizza. Wow, it was really good too. I just finished my pizza today. They are consistently excellent. Oh and the prices are great as well. Theo's is my new go to spot!

Yelp
Food is always fresh and yummy. Customer service is great and very clean even on an extremely busy Mardi Gras parade day!

Lucas D.

Yelp
I love this place. The pizza tastes great and is cooked right. Delicious pizza! I am lucky to have found this place.

Kim D.

Yelp
Horrible service!!! I came to pick up an order that should have been ready at 5:50 THEY HAVE NOT even started‼ And this is not the first time. There were no apologies or care at all about and that's what really makes me angry!! Meanwhile I have to sit here and wait another 10 mins for the other that should have been ready at 5:50‼‼

Tisha S.

Yelp
There pizza is so delicious. My favorite is the Doc's margarita pizza. Customer service is great.

Yelp
5+ stars!! This was our first time in years and I can't believe it's taken us this long to return. The staff was amazing. They were very knowledgeable of the popular menu items and all suggestions were fantastic! We ordered a 10" cheese/mushroom for my son that was loaded with toppings and perfect size for him. We ordered half Marilyn and half Jammer's, it was uh-mazing!!! The dining area was nicely laid out, tables weren't too close but spaced out enough to still fit ample amount of people. This is our new go-to pizza place!!

Yelp
Great Salads! Haven't had the pizza yet but had the Caesar and the Greek salad both with chicken. Great. Service is good everyone very friendly and helpful
google avatar

Jayde L.

Yelp
Theos pizza is crunchy and delicious! I usually go for a regular pepperoni but all the vegetarian options are amazing too! A great appetizer is their jalapeño cheese sticks which include a tomato dipping sauce. Their salads are huge and great too. I really enjoy the Caesar and Greek. They have a cool program where they a "monthly" pizza which is a unique pizza that they often times come together with other restaurants to create for example they have a "The Joint" pizza where they put pulled pork from the joint on the pizza. It's great! For sure try this place out!
google avatar

Randy G.

Yelp
Terribly cooked lg pizza. Thin crust but toppings were horrendous. Gooey and just not tasty. Stopped going here yrs ago but tried again and very disappointed.

Claire H.

Yelp
Always good service and pizza here! We typically choose Theo's because they have excellent salads that go really well as a starter!

Michael L.

Yelp
Didn't receive what I ordered and waited 45 min to learn order was wrong. Brought to cashier attention but didn't seem concerned. Took a chance on this store in lieu of Harahan. I'll visit Harahan from now on . Much friendlier.

Yelp
Y'all. I love Mid City Theo's. I love Elmood Theo's. I love Uptown Theo's. Metairie Theo's sucks. I'm trying really hard to cut everyone some slack these days. I'm thrilled places are open. I'm happy that employees are showing up. I'm excited they have ingredients to make the food. But you know what sucks? When they forget to make one of the pizzas and you nicely ask the staff where the pizza is because everyone else is almost finished and you still haven't eaten, and the staff gets snarky with you. As if it's your fault. Your entire party is done and ready to go by the time your pizza gets to the table, so you get to take yours to go and eat an expensive cold pizza at home. And not one member of the staff even bothers to apologize.

Yelp
Okay, let me start by saying a Theo's is MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PIZZA in New Orleans. I loved to Metry a few months ago and I've had a couple of great pizzas from Theo's on Vets. But the last 3 times have made me decide I'm better off going somewhere else. Long waits, pizza cold after waiting a long time (can't figure that one out), our lunch the other day was a total waste (sandwich cold and covered in Mayo which was not listed online) and the lunch pizza was cold, sparse and tasteless. The lunch pizza is s very cheap version of their regular pizza. Considering they lost my ticket I can't figure out how I got a sandwich that had never seen an oven and a cold pizza. So today.... Walked in, placed a pizza order, waited in the car. FOREVER. They had said they would bring it out so I thought perhaps they had forgotten. I went in and asked about it and they said 'it needs a few more minutes'. I get home and it's overcooked, waaaay brown on the crust and bottom, sauce is dried out. Turns out I don't think it needed a few more minutes at all. We just blew about $28 on pizza for the last time.

Yelp
I didn't even know this location existed but my friends invited me for a birthday . The place is way larger than their other location which was great for our large party . The pizza was pretty good . It's not like over the top amazing but pretty darn good I got the garlic one with the olive oil and the artichokes it was really really good . Nice change from regular pizza . Also got a normal pepperoni extra cheese . The cheese didn't seem extra that's the only down fall I like the cheese to stretch when I was it lol that's the true test ! But deff a good pizza place has that original pizza place feel like that ! And a large selection of beer bc we know pizza and beer are amazing together
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
And then there were 4! If you follow my reviews, you know I'm a fan of Theo's in general. I like there not too thin/not too thick crust. And I think their toppings are pretty top notch. My niece had mentioned that the March pizza of the month was a Thai Shrimp so that was percolating in the background.... I was headed out to the Metrys for a meeting and realized I was STARVING so stopped in at the new location for a quick pizza (and some bread sticks to share with the group) and got that yummy pizza of the month. So different, so delicious. As for the location, Theo's occupies the corner unit of a strip mall and I'm pretty sure I had an old Mac fixed on this location a million years ago. But their renovation looks great with some nice homey touches. The seating seemed ample and they do serve the beer and wine with specials at different times of day/days of the week. Staff was lovely and superpatient with the herds of parents coming in with overtired children.

Yelp
I had lunch here recently with my husband and one of my favorite twins. We arrived, ordered at the counter, were given our Eddie Murphy from the 80s table marker - SCORE! - and we're seated. We found an available high chair, and settled in with my sweet granddaughter and my husband. The music was fun, so we all table danced, as this was requested by twin 1. She requested a cup of ice because she knows they have the good stuff. I think you know this ice. It's little chips that seem to keep a drink about 10 degrees colder for some reason. I know that's not scientifically accurate, but it just seems to be the case. The cashier was happy to give us an extra cup of ice while we waited. Soon after our chair dancing concluded, our pepperoni pizza arrived. It was hot, covered in melted mozzarella that was perfectly browned on the big cheese bubbles, and the sauce was killer! Sweet, but not overly so. And the crust!! So crispy! Those baked in air bubbles - yeeesss! We had a fantastic meal. The food was delicious, the service was spot on and the music coming from the speakers kept us bopping along. Awesome lunch!

Yelp
No wifi and cell signal horrible. Had pizza with pepperoni, anchovies and feta. It was light on feta but tasty. Got it with x sauce and crispy. It was repeatable but crust was a bit too institutional for my taste even tho I like thin crust. Thai wings were huge but get blue cheese with them. They may have been ostrich wings! I felt return on investment was low here. Been trying lots of New Orleans pizza places. I prefer mos for value and tasty sweet sauce. I like reginellis but make sure to get hummus there. It's the star on the menu. Brooklyn pizza was ok but didn't wow me. Favs still are gendusas and mos. Prob gets another star with wifi

Timothy M.

Yelp
Salads are great. Pizza is above average. Majority of the time I do takeout, but dine in is fine.
google avatar

Yelp
RACIST IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT, THE WAY I WAS TREATED TODAY WAS BEYOND DISRESPECTFUL. Customer service was absolutely horrible, a customer had to tell the boy at the counter that I was before. When I walked in the restaurant he didn't even acknowledge me. But as soon as another gentleman (white) walked in he immediately acknowledged him. I felt so low. Then to top it off he hands me my food with no bag or are anything. I literally had to ask him to put my food in a bag. I don't know who these new young little boys working, but this company is gonna find a nice law suit on their hands. Because if a customer saw he did something wrong then it's SAD AND PATHETIC

Yelp
It was a low key Saturday night, I'd been eating salads all week, and I decided it was time to reward myself..with pizza, obviously. So my fiancé recommended Theo's because he had gone to another location for lunch one day and said the pizza was good. Thus, we found ourselves at Theo's. With all of that said, I really did enjoy this pizza! We just got the 10 inch cheese pizza, but they had a wide array of options including a create your own option (which I'll probably try next time). They also have 14 inch pizzas. My reasons behind the four stars are: 1. The crust. This was my favorite part of the pizza. It was thin crust, but it wasn't overly flimsy which I liked. 2. The cheese. The cheese was stringy and creamy and there was lots of it. So what's not to like about that? 3. The sauce. This was probably my least favorite part of the pizza. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything special. I also think that they're could've put a tad bit more sauce on the pizza. We also got the cheesy garlic bread which I liked, too! As far as the service, the employees at the register were nice and we got our food quickly, so I have no complaints. All in all, I'd happily go back to Theo's when I'm craving thin crust pizza!

Yelp
I have to say that I gave this place another shot after having issues with my order. This time we dinner in and ordered appetizer, salad and pizza. The appetizer was wrong quantity and then when I inquired about my salad I was told I didn't order one.

Jason V.

Yelp
I patronized this restaurant today after hearing that they had great pizza. I have to say, the pizza was very good. However, this is probably one of the most expensive pizza joints around. I ordered a buffalo chicken, a Westwego pizza, and a 10 inch personal pepperoni pizza. The end bill came out to $69 dollars. For the amount of food received, the price was outrageous. Like I stated above, the pizza was very good taste wize. I know we are in a Biden economy, but this pizza is way overpriced. I recommend other pizza businesses unless you have lots of money. Pending I hit the lottery, this is a one and done.
google avatar

Mitchell C.

Yelp
Great lunch special. 7.99 for a small pizza and a drink was a good deal. My wife and I ordered one of those and a small Greek salad for 8.00. The pizza was good. It was a little thinner than I expected but it was good and crispy. It was a little greasy. The Greek salad was very good and enough for us to split. So 17.00 out the door seems to be a good deal. It was hot and fresh out of the oven.

Yelp
"The Eccentric" So good and the company was even better. Definitely be willing to try something different . Plenty of choices for beer as well. (Tip: if your meeting up with a friend double check which location lol! There all good though )

Yelp
Theo's is AMAZING! Food is always fresh and delicious! The wood fired pizza is the best! We had the house salad as well and it was really good. And they have tons of options. Restaurant is impeccably clean and the staff is friendly and attentive. Overall 5 star experience!
google avatar

Andi F.

Yelp
I have come on several occasions when I am in town, and have been impressed each time. This location has a lot of parking, plenty of seating and clean restrooms. I have yet to have bad service. I have been to other locations, and have found all to be of equal service and food. The dining area is neat and clean. Employees are friendly. I usually just order whatever the pizza of the month is, and have enough leftover for lunch the next day.
google avatar

Cynthia C.

Yelp
Great lunch special of a small one topping pizza and drink for 7.99. I split a house salad with my friend and ended up taking half my pizza to go. The crust is nice and chewy with quality ingredients that are enough but not overboard. Great lunch spot!
google avatar

Christy O.

Yelp
Apparently the day before Thanksgiving, everyone had the same idea. PIZZA! We were kind of a big group so we tried several pizzas and all of them were delicious. The service with drink refills was good too. The bathroom was clean and presentable. But let's talk about the best thing I ate. There may be a ban on romaine lettuce right now, but that did not affect the Theo's house salad with creamy Italian dressing. It was so.... creamy, flavorful and quite frankly, two days later I'm still thinking about it. There was enough dressing in the cup to have a good salad to dressing ratio which is really one of the most important parts of a salad. I even asked for another cup of the dressing to dip my pizza in.

Yelp
Me and my boyfriend frequented this location quite a few times throughout Covid but the experience we had tonight will make me never want to support this location ever again. We had a group of 6 of us wanting to order pizza and dine in. They didn't have any 6 person tables available so we asked if we could sit separately from the rest of the group and have our own separate order, and we were told we couldn't do that. The joke of a manager told us that we couldn't do that because we could intermingle if they sit us separately. We reiterated that we wouldn't do that given the pandemic and even suggested that he can sit us across the restaurant from the other members of our party. But the manager's lack of customer service skills and judgement prevailed. We ended up leaving, but I told my boyfriend that I will never support this location again. Instead of using logic, proper judgement, and problem solving skills to accommodate us, the manager decided to just make a generalization and implement ridiculous Covid rule that seemed to be made up on the spot because he either didn't want to work or didn't know how to facilitate an otherwise simple accommodation considering there were numerous 4 person table that he could have put together. I'm shocked he was a manager given the stupidity and lack of customer service. What a joke.

Yelp
I usually go to this location for lunch. They have a lunch special. One 10 inch pizza or sandwich and a drink for $7.99 plus tax. If you choose a sandwich instead of a pizza, it comes with a bag of chips. The restaurant is very clean. The service is great. It can get busy, but the food comes out in a reasonable amount of time. I Absolutely love their house salad with their house dressing. You can add any type of meat to the salad to make it a meal. The salad consists of lettuce, mushrooms, onions, peppers, black olives and mozzarella cheese. I highly recommend it. I love their Pesto veggie sandwich. It comes with spinach, roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts and my favorite, goat cheese! Very delicious. Their cookies are fresh and yummy. I love that the table flag is a picture of a celebrity and not a table number. That was creative.
google avatar

Jeremy R.

Yelp
My favorite pizza place in the city! I love thin crust pizza so this place is perfect for me. The monthly specials are usually pretty good, although a little on the pricey side. I like their salads, but I've never tried their sandwiches. Bottom line: If you love crunchy, thin crust pizza, you can't go wrong with Theo's!
google avatar

Sue M.

Yelp
I have ordered take out from Theo's in Metairie for office group lunches and dined in a couple times. The pizza is delicious and very reasonable. The staff is personable and efficient. Inside the restaurant, you order at the counter and receive a whimsical table marker. Also at the order counter you will find some eye catching monstrous size sweets. I believe these are all homemade or from a local person. My favorite is their pesto pizza with chicken and mushrooms and the spinach salad. Be sure to check out their hours before heading over. They are currently working an adjusted schedule. There's ample parking in their lot, and they do offer delivery but once again check the hours.

B U.

Yelp
Don't know what happened to this place. Used to have really good pizza. Picked up two pizzas today and neither one came close to your average frozen pizza from the grocery store. Sad to see such a decline.
google avatar

Henry S.

Yelp
I tried this small pizza place after seeing the reviews on here. I love their pizza (meat head) and the Thai wings. There was no wait and the service was excellent. I will definitely be returning.

Yelp
I picked up a pizza for the kids here, so I was in and out pretty quickly. The kids loved the pizza and I thought it was good too. They were friendly on the phone, prompt with the pie, and reasonably priced! Thanks guys!

Yelp
Nice neighborhood pizza spot with nice beer selection. Definitely try it out if you like crispy crust pizza. Friendly staff. Order for pick up you're in a rush- inside wasn't super speedy on service but not super slow either.
