"Thief is a Williamsburg bar from a Katana Kitten alum that opened in 2021, known for its friesling on tap. It is expanding with another location on the Lower East Side, set to debut at 161 Ludlow Street, near Stanton Street, on April 20. The kitchen is helmed by Dan Gonzalez, formerly of upscale Manhattan restaurants Marea, Estela, and Blanca, serving sandwiches with a cacio e pepe dip and smash burgers with onion jam." - Emma Orlow

love Thief! I always come here when I am in the LES. Their cocktails are always on point, and the food is DELICIOUS. Don’t sleep on the fried Mac & cheese bites with kimchi jam, buffalo cauliflower (or chicken) and the fries are great to share while sipping on a drink with friends. The vibes are immaculate, service so kind, if you’re reading this review, you should go!

The staff members Rachel and Jase WERE AMAZING! Each themed drink had a corresponding themed cup. Great variety and flavors! The atmosphere was fun. The entire experience was positively memorable!

The person who waited on us was B and they are fantastic! Kind, friendly and super understanding. I have vertigo and the colorful disco light they have up for sippin Santa was triggering my vertigo and making me sick. B was super helpful in getting us another table as soon as one was available, and I can’t express enough how much I appreciated that. Staff and food was five star, but atmosphere I have to give three stars. The lighting that was making me sick, the music was loud enough that everyone was yelling over it to be heard which was annoying, the restroom is so dimly lit that I couldn’t see that there was pee all over the seat. Needless to say, not happy about that lol. We come down to the city every year for Sippin Santa, this was the only time we felt overwhelmed by it all. B was the saving grace of it all honestly, the kindness and compassion outweighed the overwhelming experience. Happy we were also able to purchase coconut mugs as well, we drove three hours for that bad boy lol.

We've only come here twice, to see one of our bartender friends. The first time was during the holiday season and we had just missed her, but decided to stay to enjoy some holiday drinks on their menu. We tried visiting again recently, and we were happy she was working! We tried new cocktails on their menu and just enjoyed the entire staffs company, everyone is super friendly! Stopped in during a trade show week up in the city with our staff based on the recommendation of a friend/local. The atmosphere is great, lowkey, private and intimate but still gives you the shotgun bar feel. The drinks are great, beers are cold and crisp and cocktails stiff. But, the food was so good we literally came back the very next night and brought others from the show. The burger was excellent, the wings are the perfect kind of crisp and a hell of a kick, but the winner was their end-all ribs. I'm more of a wing guy than a rib guy, but their ribs were so good we ordered three or four rounds, after we were already full, and they disappeared. Highly recommended for a quick bite, date, or just getting wings/ribs and beers with the ladies or boys. Thankful for the rec but even more thankful for the memories of good food and good vibes! 5/5

Google
Really thoughtfully-composed menu with a good mix of small plates (fried brie and wedge salad were amazing) for light snacking and a show-stopper of a fried chicken sandwich if you're not afraid to eat on a date. Cocktails had some thought behind them. The Garden Party was very refreshing. It felt like they were in soft-open mode when I visited, but the experience was still very tight. I'd like the music to be a few decibels softer, but I guess I'm officially that old.

WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE * EVER!!!* Visited Saturday night 2/3 with a group of friends. ALL of us work in hospitality as bartenders and servers. Whoever manages this place should be ashamed of themselves. The Bartenders were SO INSANELY RUDE. We literally could not believe the service we were getting. No hello, no how are you, no thank you no nothing. Slamming down credit card machines and treating us and every other guest in the place like they were doing us a favor. HORRIBLE! WOULD RATHER ORDER DRINKS FROM A VENDING MACHINE! PLACE WAS EMPTY ON A SATURDAY NIGHT I WONDER WHY. OH WAIT, ITS CAUSE YOUR BAETENDERS ARE RUDE AS HELL! the absolute only saving grace of this spot was the doorman / host Adam. He made us feel welcome and appreciated. Frankly the rest of the staff should take lessons from him, maybe we’d be back. Better yet, let him run the place, maybe then it would actually turn a profit Please change your bar staff if you care about your business at all. PLEASE STOP CHARGING FOR A SPECIALTY COCKTAIL TWICE (CUSTOM COCKTAIL UPCHARGE $5, + ADDITIONAL $3 UPCHARGE… PER DRINK!?!?!?) get your system together, reset the staff and GET. IN. TOUCH. WITH. Yelp
This place was listed as a must try Christmas bar and im unsure why . Everything was tacky and tasteless and the drinks were even worse ! I have never been here before so lets just assume its a hawaiian tiki bar esthetics is a norm and they added the Christmas decor for holiday cheer . We were seated quickly, serviced with a smile ... but that drink menu ?!?! All bad . ALL BAD . Im pretty sure anyone who drank there woke up with headaches . What in the bottom of the barrel alcohol ... My drink was so bad none of the ingredients blended well and everything separated (like I was drinking melted butter and rubbing alcohol) - LITERALLY . And we paid 9 bucks for holiday nuts ... the joke was it was a smidgen of nuts ... and the flavors weren't the greatest . When the waitress came to us we quickly settled the tab (so ready to run outta there) she asked us if we liked it and we were honest, she then offered us free shots of ginger something/ and said it was her favorite!! IT WAS HORRIBLE ! Lolol We left everything on the table and left ... This place made me question if I really had such poor taste in food back in college . I wouldn't recommend this place ever ! Much less list it as a must try lmao 1 star because I had to, another because they tried to sway my thoughts... even though the attempt fell short .

Yelp
I would like to start by saying this review may be a little Bias as it is solely related to my experience of their pop-up Sipping Santa. Additionally, I didn't try any of their food. My experience below is solely on atmosphere, service, and drinks. I would start of by saying that I am not sure if all places are starting to do this now but I had to pay to make a reservation which feels very crazy to me to do for a bar. Second, the payment doesn't even go towards my meal/drinks so its pretty much lost money. I've always wanted to do a pop-up Christmas bar/restaurant so was pretty excited. I came here after dinner and it was just a 3-minute walk from the restaurant. I entered and was immediately greeted by the hostess who already had my seating reserved and ready at the bar. We took our seats and were immediately greeted by the man and woman behind the bar. The bar was pretty empty and I only saw about 4-6 groups in the establishment so I was pretty bummed that I paid for a reservation. Nonetheless, I came here for the drinks and the vibes. The music was Christmas of course and they were playing great songs. The place was nice. decorated and felt like a Christmas on an island. They had drinks in cool glasses and mugs and sold those same drinkware. The drinks were expensive (over $15) and I didn't think they tasted that great honestly. My partner and I tried the "Yule Tide" and "Jungle Bird". The Yule Tide was okay and the Jungle Bird I did not like it at all. I would be open to returning to this place after the holidays and trying their usual cocktail menu and food.

Yelp
A wonderful place in the middle of the Lower East Side. Small place but really chilled vibe. Loved the music mix and the bartenders were super friendly. We definitely had very good drinks that were yummy! Ordered the burger and wings, both were very good! Wings were meaty and burger was cooked right, fries were crispy. Highly recommended and will definitely be stopping by real soon.

Yelp
Great location in the Lower East Side with amazing food and cocktails. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich ($17), crab toast ($14), and Wings with Dry togarashi cheddar ($15). Everything was amazing!

Yelp
Ehhh We got some fries which were good. But this bar is pretty ehhhh. Not very special. The service was ehh. The drinks were okay but pricey. The ambiance was fine and empty. Also the bartender poured my wine in a glass then after another bartender said they put too much so literally took it and poured some wine out. It was strange. Would I return? Not with an intent of being there but yes by chance or accident. The fries were great tho and huge portion. AND it was so loud. There were 6 people in there but the music was so loud my Apple Watch sent me a sound warning. The bathroom was cute and very very clean.

Yelp
2nd time here Awsome vibes once again!!! Unner the bartender was the highlight of our night pls come here with your girls for non creepy guys and great drink fries

Yelp
A wonderful escape from the streets of NYC into a...tropical...winter wonderland. Compared to other holiday pop-ups, this one is much more low-key and intimate, allowing waitstaff to really ensure you have a great time and are taken care of. The drinks are definitely strong pours, so although they have higher prices ($10 per person reservation fee), one drink definitely is worth two

Yelp
what we ordered: crab toast $14 grilled pork ribs $16 thief burger $16 black truffle grilled cheese $18 . Hands down one of the best grilled cheese I've had in my life. Super cheesy and it was truffle flavored- dreaming about it again already. They also have other great bar bites as well as a extensive drink menu. We ended up getting mocktails and they were really good as well.

Yelp
I can't say enough positive words about my experience here. Destiny and Gunner were the nicest and most accommodating people that I've met in years. The bar itself is beautiful, yet the people inside are even better. Can't wait to make this my new staple bar. Love always, New Yorker, 11+ years.

Yelp
Fairly new bar in LES and not much to write home about. Drinks are decent, vibes are bland, and the bartenders are pretty unfriendly lol maybe we caught her on a bad day but wow she did not want to be there. Wouldn't recommend. Too many other great spots within like 200 feet.

Saenz A.

Yelp
Great drinks with amazing service! Bartender Destiny is very friendly and shows her skills at the bar. Food is good and comes out hot. Plenty of tables for two or groups of 4. Back area has more privacy but ambiance is great in the bar area too.

Yelp
Loved the atmosphere, Rachel was amazing and the chicken wings were sensational!!! Cannot wait to come back.

Yelp
Loved Randy and Justin....so sweet and fun. I had a bad time before but they made it all better, literally the sweetest, kindest, most admiral people ever and met! Made me feel so great.

Yelp
Definitely newish to the strip of Bars. We were pleasantly surprised with great drinks, and I had their grilled cheese . The bartender was super nice and helpful, I will definitely come back when I'm not pressed for time .

Yelp
Came in for the Sippin' Santa pop up this Monday (Dec 11). Bar was full and Rachel and Mercedes were absolute rock stars. Drinks were awesome and these two handled it all. Make a reservation to guarantee a seat.

Yelp
Amaretto sour was delicious, but the bartender named Destiny was extremely rude. Her attitude was abysmal. Continuous eye rolls and scoffs from her the entire night. I feel like she's not well-suited for her role at this establishment when it comes to dealing with customers.
