13 Top Places to Drink Frozen Cocktails in NYC | Eater NY

"Inspired by New York’s art and music scene in the 1980s, Thief is a Williamsburg bar from barman John McNulty (Katana Kitten). And alongside snacks like mini vegan corn dogs, McNulty is serving a killer take on frozen Riesling, aka Friesling ($14). His version — which is balanced and not overly sweet — calls for Riesling with white grape juice, vodka, lemon, lime, and orange." - Kat Odell

My daughter & I ordered the Frozen drinks they had for $8. It was Frozen Saki. Surprisingly very delicious. They had a Live Singer who had a lovely voice. On a beautiful Sunday Afternoon.

Absolutely AMAZING. I love the Santa theme . Everything about this bar is cool as fudge . The Santa outside is amazing. Such a vibe and I love how it’s tropical Christmas. The drinks were so cute and everything about it was so at home. Will be coming here soon.

Google
Soooo cute! I love how decked out this place is for the holidays! Their holiday menu was festive n delicious, I got the eggnog drink, and it was delightful!! They were able to accommodate me and my friend to sit at the bar even though we didn’t have rezzies. But def recommend making one, esp if you’re going during a busy time or have a group bigger than 2! Thanks for the good vibes, music, and drinks!

Google
Finally made it to Miracle on Union @ Thief! We came after Christmas on a chilly Wednesday, there were plenty of tables available 6-7. The servers were friendly and the choice of festive cocktails was great! We tried the Christmaspolitan and Snowball Old Fashioned among others (I recommend both!). It's a little pricey, but worth the visit to take in the Holiday atmosphere!

Came here to experience the Miracle popup at Thief. From the decor to the drinks, you would absolutely get into the spirit! I do recommend that you get there early because it could be a wait and the outside seating isn’t very warm. My friend and I were directed that we can sit outside but waited about 15 minutes and didn’t get someone to offer water. There was a table besides us that were sitting before us and didn’t get their drink orders as well. . . We ended up sitting inside where it was much warmer. It was very busy, but the Christmas decor and the smiles from everyone else can enhance a mood. I had the Elfing Around and Tye had a Holdiay Spiked Chai. The drinks are a bit pricey,($18-20 per drink) but are good/strong. They also have small bites for you to nibble on! I had a bit more of an appetite, so we opted to go get food after. I would highly recommend this as a cute spot after a date or to catch up with friends.

Google
Fantastic new cocktail bar near McCarren Park. Loved the atmosphere, and the staff was superb: attentive and welcoming. Our drinks were excellent. When I saw the food menu, and the dishes that the waiters brought out to other guests, I wished we hadn’t eaten before we went there. Next time I’ll go I want to try their food (mostly bar bites, but the black truffle grilled cheese sounds divine!).

Great cocktails. Excellent bartender and staff

Google
Came here with a few friends (on a Saturday night) a few weeks ago and loved it! The vibe is great and though the place is small it feels well-spaced - so if you have a group it's a great place to hang. Great selection of drinks and the bar bites are quite delicious and I'd say elevated when compared to the usual bar food. The staff was friendly and helpful - no complaints, overall!

Yelp
I won a free brunch for 2 which included food from the brunch menu and drinks. I took my friend and this was both our first times here. I was such a nice day that we sat outside to people watch. I got the Moscow mule and she got a mimosa as our drinks. The food was delicious. I ordered the Merguez breakfast burrito and she had the grilled cheese with pull pork. The place was cute and the employees were so helpful and accommodating. Would definitely be coming here again!

Yelp
Truly had no expectations of this place before coming. We were in the area for dinner and were in search of a happy hour. In the end, this was a really nice option. Their happy hour menu isn't terribly extensive (I think 3 cocktails and a few beers?), but the environment was great. We were bummed when we tried to order the happy hour food that was really sold to us by a super energetic waitress and found that it was sold out. The outdoor seating on a nice night like we had was a really great change of pace for some other happy hour options in the area. And the space itself is fairly accessible without being overwhelming. Would absolutely come back here for pre-dinner drinks if in the area again. But would hope the very advertised food was available!

Yelp
Popped in with my partner after eating at Lilia and loved this spot. They had a great seasonal cocktail that came with a caramel stick that you infused into your hot drink! How clever and yummy. I thought this place was a dive bar, but it has more of a cocktail vibe and would be cute for catching up with friends or date night. Service was good. I definitely want to come back and try more items on the menu. They also have a few bites I need to come back and nibble on! 4/5

Yelp
Fun spot in Williamsburg. We were there to enjoy the music of the BROOKLYNERS Reggae band Saturday, who performed from 3 to 6pm. Awesome! Delicious small bites: Truffle Grilled Cheese, Pastrami Melt, Crudité with Hummus, Double Caribbean Empanadas, plus drinks. The Freisling was a delicious frosty wine beverage. Friendly, welcoming bartenders and servers. Definitely a good place for gathering with friends!

Yelp
Had a much better experience second time around, sweet service, guy made me a very good sandwich, chill vibes, nicely made drinks. Glad to see an improvement.

Yelp
Great ambiance, okay drinks (I had the espresso martini), and the service is friendly enough although a bit distracted! Would recommend getting there before it gets crowded because it's hard to hold a conversation over the noise levels since it's a small space.

Yelp
My partner and I popped in here while waiting for our reservation at Lilia next door, since we had about a half hour to kill and they recommended we try Thief. Overall, we really liked the decor and the service was friendly. We are both partaking in dry January, so our options are generally limited at bars. When we first got there I asked if there were any non alcoholic beers in the menu and the answer was no (I don't think it was the main bartender and the person just didn't know, so they said no). Luckily I asked again when approached by the other bartender and he said they have an athletic brewing option (so went with that). Partner liked their mocktail as well. Their food menu looked pretty great as well and would probably try some next time we find ourselves at Thief - hopefully post Dry January ha!

I came here in the afternoon with a party of 4. We came for one drink & then the live music kept us for 4 more. Great atmosphere Great service Great drinks I will definitely be coming back here and look forward to trying the food.

Yelp
I was looking for a bar to have a Negroni in for Negroni week, so I went to the website for Negroni Week and searched for bars near me and Theif happened to be less than a mile, so we could walk! It also showed as a Premium sponsor for Negroni week, so I definitely wanted to go. Now I wanted to look at their cocktail menu and generally get a sense of the bar and it's vibe, so I went to the website. I fell in love when it loaded and it said "let's steal back some time." LOVE. That said everything about the vibe of the bar that I needed to know! We were ending a long day of travel from Portland Oregon to NYC and dropped in for one drink because we still had several hours to go as we had to drive to Connecticut. Thief was packed and had signage that stated "vaccination card required" so bonus, we got to feel safe AND enjoy a drink. We were actually checked twice which made me feel better, not annoyed, that the establishment wanted the customers to be safe. We got lucky and got a seat at the bar immediately. And the service was just as fast. I got a delicious Negroni and my husband got a cocktail. We both enjoyed our drinks and the bar, they played great music AND had a totally different music set up in the bathroom, which was pretty cool, and also had great music playing. Anyway, if I lived in Brooklyn, I would have definitely made this my neighborhood bar. Loved it!

Yelp
I went here to reconnect with a guy friend of mine. Generally good experience here: a. Not to crowded b. Feel really well served c. Music was present, but wasn't crazy loud (AKA: people in their 30s won't freak out) d. The Christmas drinks are generally exciting and the non-Christmas drinks are also delightful. e. A 5 min walk from the Bedford station Where this place falls short. - Just one unisex bathroom for EVERYONE - including staff - The menu is rather small - A bit more can be done to give this place a greater sense of character (beyond the Christmas decorations)

Yelp
New 80s-decor leaning bar near mccarren offering drinks and snacks. My partner and I sat at the bar and ordered: - a drink made with carrot juice and tequila, - another drink with peach and tequila, -the infamous friesling - vegan corn dogs The friesling makes for an awesome summer drink, and actually tasted better than I thought it would. The vegan corn dogs were also awesome. I tried ordering a pretzel but they were out. The cocktails are on the pricier side ~$15+ per cocktail, so if you're looking for more bang for your buck, stick with the friesling and beers.
google avatar

Shari H.

Yelp
Loved everything about this place. Truly enjoyed the Friesling which is a frozen riesling wine. Food wise we ordered the black truffle grilled cheese and the smoked ham gruyere. Staff was cool. Loved the decor. Has a dark aesthetic that works. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
The food, the vibes, and the live music on Sunday's make this place one of my favorites in Williamsburg. The service is incredible and Frankie, Sat Charn, and Kenny are the absolute best and make the most delicious cocktails. The food menu is also exactly want you want in a bar setting.
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
Sooo this place was really cute! Nice vibe, good music! Friendly staff. We literally came just to try the sandwiches. The turkey melt was so good! I'd go back for that for sure! I liked the truffle melt but not enough to get it again and the chicken parm sliders should be bigger (I'd say a quarter of the size of the bun) They get lost on the already small slider buns, which were too sweet for my liking, and wayyy too much cheese. Really woulda loved more chicken. But anyways tasted more like mozzarella sticks once dipped rather then a chicken parm slider. What chicken?!! Lol anyways I really liked the ambience and turkey melt so I'll go back.

Yelp
Grabbed a couple quick drinks before dinner. Cool and casual atmosphere. Had a whiskey while my wife had a cocktail. Drinks menu was straight to the point. Service was quick and attentive. One gender neutral restroom.

Yelp
Charles, our bartender, was an absolute dream. He gave us tons of tips/ideas for our short trip to NYC and was generally a joy to be around. He was a bright spot in our trip and we wish we could teleport to thief every sunday night from here on out. Thank you Charles!
google avatar

Marie K.

Yelp
The second time was really a letdown. The bartender refused to make my friend a Long Island iced tea. The refusal give off the vibe that this bar is above creating things that people actually want to drink. This was in stark contrast to the last time I was here when the bartenders' flexibility was impressive. Another friend was disappointed in the coffee drink due to the clashing flavors of coffee and cherry. If you are into having very specific cocktails, this place might work for you. However, if you want some thing that the day's bartender sees as too proletarian, go somewhere else.

Yelp
We visited this location for the Miracle Christmas pop up and we love it! It was decorated beautifully and filled with cozy holiday spirit. The staff was friendly and cheerful. We tried all the cocktails on the menu and most were served in Christmas-themed glasses/mugs. Come early before the drinks are sold out. Our favorites are: - Jolly Koala: Strong & came with an adorable koala - Bad Santa: Delicious & not too sweet - Snowball Old-Fashioned : Classic

Yelp
I wish I liked Thief more than I did. For a cocktail menu that lists cocktails as $15, I expected a little more thought behind the drinks. I ordered the Supersonic and my friend ordered the Friesling, their version of a Frosé. The drink felt weak and the cucumber ice cube added too much grit and pulp to the drink, making it increasingly unpleasant to drink as it melted. It would've been better as a cucumber juice ice cube. No complaints from my friend about their drink, however, which looked cute, topped with a few grapes. The bartender also checked in on us no less than 5 times during our stay, which is thoughtful the first few times, but got weird, as we both were clearly not finished with either of our drinks. I was beginning to feel rushed and unwelcomed toward the end of my stay. We ordered a second round--I got a beer on draft (which was only 12oz! and half of it was head!) and they got the Yellowhammer, delicious, but had simple ingredients that I thought was absurd to charge $15 for. I hope to try Thief again as they perhaps revise or expand their menu.

Yelp
when I do count the clock that tells the time This bar serves drinks that quench the thirsts of many

Yelp
I just moved to the city a few weeks ago and have had so much fun exploring the boroughs! My friend dragged me to Williamsburg and I'm soo glad she did! We came on a Thursday after work and found a seat at the bar before grabbing dinner at Lilia. We were greeted by one of the bartenders (Meg? I think??) She was so nice, was down to talk to us, answered all my questions about the menu, and even gave me a nail salon recommendation. I mean!! She even suggested cocktails based on how I was feeling! And well, we didn't make it to Lilia. Once I saw they had vegan corn dogs, we decided to eat there. Let me tell you about these vegan corn dogs ok!! I'm a vegetarian and have always wanted to try a corndog and finally got to!! To eat, we had the corndogs (YUM), grilled cheese (honestly s/o to chips not fries), and chips and dip. Your girl was feeling tired after that long subway ride so on Meg's recommendation, I tried the Stay Woke espresso martini. Idk what I was doing drinking an espresso martini on a work night but here I was!! Let me tell you what. Meg makes an amaaazing espresso martini. I'm dreaming about that dang espresso martini as I write this. The wine list looked amazing and the cocktails all looked delicious. My friend had the friesling and honestly I was skeptical thinking it would be too sweet, but I tried a sip of hers and it was honestly so good and not sweet at all. I'm hype to come back and sit outside this summer! (Edit: I was on my yelp sh*t and noticed my original comment was deleted. Need more people to see how great this spot is!!)

Yelp
Stopped in today to grab a drink and was blown away. I expected some basic well drinks, but was surprised to see they had a small selection of cocktails to choose from. I decided to try their gin and peach drink (first one on the menu but it looks like their menu changes periodically based on older posts). It was amazing and a lot better than I expected. My boyfriend got a drink called intergalactic and it was interesting, unique, AND delicious. I highly recommend this bar if you want a nice chill vibe with awesome drinks. They also had live music for some portion of our experience there which was a nice addition. At some point I decided to get the truffle grilled cheese as a light snack and it was a 10/10. Easily the best grilled cheese I've had. Don't skip out on stopping here if you're in the area!

Yelp
Had a great time. Good drinks and the bartender with the unique name "Star Charn?" Was awesome. Created a really good time and made it fun for me and my friends.

Yelp
Amazing spot! Great drinks, great vibe, always great music. Especially love bartenders Meg and Alyssa--I always have a great time, they're the best! One of my fave bars in Williamsburg.

Yelp
All the vibes you want, all the vibes you need. Great music, decor and bartenders. Would be my local spot if I lived in Willy B.

Yelp
Beer selection great, food tasty and open late, bartenders wonderful, found my favorite place

Nassef P.

Yelp
My wife and I stumbled upon this place on our babymoon. We went in because Christopher and Sienna Sears' beautiful live singing made us turn back from the corner. Drinks are very good, the food also. The music was awesome. Recommended place in Brooklyn for a really good time. We wish we had learned of it at the start of our trip, we would have gone by more than once. COVID safety measures are strictly followed.

Heather O.

Yelp
Sat Charn is the best and is so welcoming! I'm a local and this is by far my favorite neighborhood bar. Great drinks and good snacks! The ambiance is great for day or nights. Good spot for a date or just hanging with friends!

Yelp
Thief is such a cool spot - so glad I was able to make it the last time I visited NY! I tried the Fire It Up which was delicious (definitely recommend if you like spicy margaritas). Our bartender. Meg, was so lovely - she was attentive and so sweet! Definitely worth a stop if you find yourself in Williamsburg!
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place! Stumbled upon it after spending the day in McCarren Park. Great vibes and atmosphere, and our bartender Meg was top-notch. Would totally be here all the time if we lived in Brooklyn. Will definitely be back when we can!

Yelp
I came to Thief recently after a long shift of bartending feeling exhausted, thirsty and a bit hungry. Brenda was super patient, kind and informative as I debated endlessly between the cocktails. I ended up ordering the " While You Wait" which was the perfect refreshing spring cocktail. I also ordered the vegan corn dogs which definitely hit the spot and I was super appreciative of them serving late night food.
google avatar

Yelp
Great cocktails, great music, all around good vibes. So happy to have a dope neighborhood spot in this pocket of wburg. Love this place.

Yelp
I have NEVER written a bad review in my entire 12 years living in New York but the experience I just had was nothing short of laughable. I totally understand that places are short staffed and still coming back from the pandemic. My friends and I just tried to go inside and were turned away because my friend has a service dog. My friend had full documentation to confirm the dog was in fact for a medical condition even though legally she does not need to disclose medical history. However, the hostess told us that the Health Department does not allow service dogs in their bar because of the size of the establishment. Which is absolutely not the law and discrimination towards my friend. When we asked to speak to the manager the hostess said to wait for her. She then came out a few Minutes later with a business card to call to about It saying the person who told her the dog could not enter would not come out. When I asked for her name the hostess literally said she couldn't tell me because she doesn't know how to spell it! She then got defensive and said there's other bars we could go to as It was her second night and she simply did not want to deal with It, walking away from us and huffing to the people waiting behind us. My friend went inside to speak to the person "stepping in for the owner" since she was not the manager, and the female actually said "I don't want to deal with this right now, it's my birthday and the owner is sick with covid." The entire staffs aloof attitude, disrespect and lack of knowledge for the law was baffling. And just so the owner knows, we did find another bar, right down the street that had no problem seating us with a legal service dog who is fully registered for someone with a medical disability. It is not just the fact that my friend was so rudely turned away for her disability but the way the staff spoke as if we should just accept It because she had to work on her birthday. Wishing the owner a speedy recover and happy holiday season with the hopes you find better staff in the new year. Do better.

Yelp
Solid spot: Great drinks. Great vibes. Great staff (extra points for bartender Meg). Definitely try the Stay Woke martini.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick drink while waiting for some friends to head out for the evening. Great atmosphere and great service. Will be back to see what else they have to offer/try more cocktails!

Arpana P.

Yelp
Great place with lots of vegan/vegetarian options. The vegan mini corn dogs were good. Staff is friendly. Definitely a hipster vibe. They were closing early for a private event but let customers know ahead of time. Overall solid spot and I'd be back if I were in the area!

Danielle B.

Yelp
4 stars in support of small business but the music is WAY TOO LOUD for 7pm here lol I'm in my 20s and couldn't even hear the person next to me. But wishing you good luck with the new spot!

Diane S.

Yelp
This place rocks! Amazing cocktails and great ambiance. Brenda is the best bartender! Definitely go and check 'em out

Rebecca F.

Yelp
Thief is the BEST. We love coming here any night of the week for the vibes, the drinks and the awesome staff. Meg behind the bar on Thursdays kills it every time- we always feel so taken care of when she's our bartender and she makes the best damn marg!! Also try the Stay Woke cocktail. You won't regret it.

Colleen L.

Yelp
Alyssa was simply the most friendly and accommodating bartender in Williamsburg. Best intimate and fun bartender!!!!

Alice H.

Yelp
After living in the area for a few years and hearing about this place's Christmas bash, I had to finally come check out what all the talk's about and was not at all disappointed. I'd consider the cocktails to be on the pricier side, but you're paying for quality and atmosphere. Staff was attentive and engaging, not to mention cute, and I didn't come with a large group but ultimately stayed for a few drinks, snacks, and made acquaintances with the other dwellers. Takeaway: Super cozy dim space, great eclectic classic rock mix going (s/o Lane(?) i think), and i'll be back for the outdoor seating once it warms up a bit more. Probably a good spot for dates, but riding solo was still a great experience. ;)

Emma P.

Yelp
I have only been to Thief once but I will absolutely be back! Our bartender, a really pretty girl with curly brown hair- Meg, maybe?- was super helpful in assisting us with wine selection. She was knowledgeable without being pretentious and I felt the same about the vibe there- sophisticated but laid back. Can't wait to come again!

Jessica B.

Yelp
Wow is all I can say! It's hard for me to EVER leave 5 stars but in this case, I just had to do it! The atmosphere is top notch and the food is great. I especially loved the espresso martini! Honestly, the biggest highlight for me was the service, and specifically Meg! What a joy! She was so personable and attentive. It really made my evening after a hard day. Thanks to Meg and this entire place! Cannot rave enough!!! bravo.

Leslie B.

Yelp
Great bar, great music and Brenda is the best behind the bar with awesome cocktails. Always good for Beastie Boy jam session in the bathroom!

Maximilian W.

Yelp
OMG that's means Oh Ma God for the adults in the room. What a hidden gem south of McCarren Park, they can make any cocktail you want here, great booze selection, and my gal was bout that Wolffer rose cider on tap. Add a quality outside nook and our bartender Meg on the sticks, no problem, Will be back!

Alyssa M.

Yelp
This place is amazing! The cocktails are killer, the music is always on point, and the staff is fun and inviting. Vibes on point. Definitely check this place out if you find yourself in Williamsburg.
