The 38 Essential Bangkok Restaurants

"If you’re willing to brave the lines, this long-standing eatery is the most famous — if not necessarily the best — place in Bangkok for phat Thai. Assert your Bangkok cred by ordering the version with “shrimp oil,” which is actually the rich fat from the shrimp’s head, and cut the richness with a bottle of fresh-squeezed orange juice." - Chawadee Nualkhair, Austin Bush, Sirin Wongpanit

11 Best Street Food Spots in Bangkok

"Thipsamai Padthai has been named the best pad thai in Thailand by the Prime Minister Plaek Phibunsongkhram, and it also has a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide. The recipe has been passed down from grandmother to mother and, now, to son, and the staff here still uses the same cooking method—over charcoal and mangrove wood—to ensure the best flavor. There are several types of pad thai to choose from, but order the signature Superb, with shrimp oil, giant shrimp, squid, crab, and mango all wrapped in paper-thin egg. Coincidentally, it's right next to Raan Jay Fai in Phra Nakhon, and there will always be a line outside, but be patient and wait your turn. This is a must-visit if you're in Bangkok, full stop." - Katie Lockhart

Had an awesome lunch at Thipsamai Padthai Pratu Phi! I ordered the Pad Thai with shrimp, while my wife went for the Pad Thai with marinated chicken. Both were absolutely delicious. The Thai tea was hands down the best I’ve ever had, and the spring rolls were also fantastic. The Pad Thai had a slightly sweet taste, which made it even more flavorful. Not sure if it was from added sugar or just the perfect balance of ingredients, but it worked beautifully. The service was exceptional! The staff greeted and saluted us every time they finished explaining the menu or served a dish. The price was reasonable, and the place felt spacious and not crowded. Highly recommend this spot for a delicious and satisfying Thai meal!

When we first arrived, the queue was long. We waited patiently for quite some time. While we waited, the waitress gave us the menu. After a while, we got into the restaurant, but there's another queue inside. At last we got to sit and we ordered: Fresh orange juice - the price changes everyday. It was freshly squeezed & sweet, but a bit pricey for an orange juice. Deep fried crab meat rolls - very tasty & flavorful, recommended. Padthai with shrimp oil, fresh deep sea prawns & wrapped with egg Padthai with shrimp oil, prawns & egg The pad thai had a chewy consistency and delicious, but the flavor was more to the sweet side. I couldn't give the 5 star for the food because after the long wait and the award stickers on the front facade, i really had a huge expectation. And it didn't quite amazed me with the flavor. But if you haven't try, it might be. Taste is matter of an opinion, rather than a fact.

Absolutely incredible! This place served the best orange juice I’ve ever had in my life – super fresh, full of pulp, and bursting with real flavor. It’s not your average juice – it honestly tasted like biting into the perfect orange. And the Pad Thai? Next level. It was different from any Pad Thai I’ve had before, in the best possible way – rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. You can really taste that they do it with care and their own unique twist. If you’re nearby, don’t miss this place. It’s totally worth it!

⭐ 5/5 – The Best Pad Thai I've Ever Had! This place serves the most delicious Pad Thai I've ever tasted! The flavors were rich, balanced, and truly unforgettable. 🍜🔥 The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly – they explained the most popular dishes with great detail and care, making us feel very welcome. 🌟 Our kids loved the homely atmosphere, and the air conditioning inside was super cold – perfect after walking around in the heat. 🧊❄️ The fresh orange juice was also amazing – truly fresh-squeezed and full of flavor. 🍊 This spot will definitely become a favorite for tourists who come to visit. Highly recommended and surely worth coming back again and again! 💯🇹🇭

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3-Star Review – Thipsamai Pad Thai Pratu Phi I came to Thipsamai with high expectations due to all the buzz and reviews, but sadly, it didn’t live up to the hype. The famous Pad Thai was a disappointment — the noodles were overcooked and mushy, lacking any of that signature stir-fry texture or balance of sweet, sour, and salty flavors. The prawn that came with it was dry and chewy, not fresh or juicy as you’d hope from a place known for this dish. We also tried the Pad Thai spring roll, which was another letdown. It was dry, bland, and completely unappetizing — like it had been sitting out for too long or rushed without care. And don’t even get me started on the ice cream — totally flavorless and forgettable. I honestly expected more from a place with such a reputation. All in all, Thipsamai felt more like a well-branded tourist spot than a place serving top-notch food. It might be worth checking off your list, but I personally wouldn’t go back or recommend it. There are definitely better Pad Thai spots around Bangkok that don’t rely on hype.

This is my one of the new favourite places to eat. Really good pad Thai...(pls don't bother eating the one a few stores down the road with ridiculous prices). This was affordable place with great ambience and service. The pad Thai has a few variations so do read properly and the cold crab meat appetizer was good too! We ordered 2 pad Thai, 1 cold crab meat appetizer, 2 coconut water, 1 orange juice, 1 mineral water for less than 1,000 baht.

A restaurant suggested by a local, this was the best dine for us in Bangkok. As we went early during lunch time, we immediately got tables. However this is a place known to have long queues. The seating area is limited. They were the original pad thai chefs and truly it's amazing. The bean sprouts were so fresh. Their orange pulp juice is excellent and i haven't found it anywhere else in Thailand. Definitely recommended!

Unforgettable. Food: They offer different types of pad thai. We went with the recommended 3 dishes for a party of 3. We ended up ordering 2 more and finished everything. The portions are average sized. Everything was delicious especially the marinated chicken Pad Thai and the original. Crab spring roll was very good too. All dishes came out hot. Peanuts are on the side as well as other condiments. Service: The host, Antonio, was truly exceptional at what he does. He greeted us warmly, explained the menu well, recommended dishes to try, engaged in conversation and entertained us really well. He goes the extra mile to make sure the guests are having a great experience. The service is truly top notch for this type of restaurant. Thank you, Antonio, for sharing your passion and wonderful energy with us. One of the best dining experiences. The extra service made it all outstanding and memorable. Cash only.
