Yelp
Wanted a quick bite of southern food. My daughter recommended This is it on Panola, as it was close by. Welp, the first server was pleasant and offered assistance to my husband as he chose his entree, then he passed us onto a woman who was our elder and she was NOT happy at all. My husband asked if an additonal side could just be placed within his container and she replied curtly 'NO.' The rest of the server team chimed in to explain why this was not policy, thats not how things are done. We all respect the rules, so we moved on. The elder put the additional side in a separate styrofoam cup. Then, a younger man proceeded to announce to the serving team that my husband was "that guy"---- causing all the team to erupt in laughter. The elder woman grimaced at this and attempted to, what I think was meant to be a, smile. Then she agreed with her service mate, "yeah he's that guy.'" Then grabbed my styrofoam plate and asked "what sides?" I told her the dressing, which was waaay on the other end of the line. She, showing what I translated as in complete annoyance, turned and headed to get the dressing. She returned opposite me and announced, 'another side.' I asked if I could get 2 sides, she sternly said 'NO.' I quickly asked for greens.
Without a smile, thank you or a nod. She passed my plate onto the next person. Mind you, I wanted some peach cobbler but I would not dare interrupt the flow at that point. So I dutifully moved on toward the cash register. SMH. Maannnn I tell ya. Our meals (4) totaled $78.76, so yeah, I suppose my husband was indeed 'that guy' to have actually paid highly for mediocre food and 'less than' service.
Oh, we got chicken, BBQ & fried, both were cold, my grand daughters yams were too firm and the mac and cheese needed salt. The greens were good though, and the corn bread too. I'm wondering about that peach cobbler that I let pass....it was probably cold too. But you can eat that cold and it would still be good-if it was made right! But, I'll never know now.
Ohhh I can not forget to mention that there was a very cheerful elder gentlemen who arrived for his shift just as we were sitting at a table to eat. I know he was coming in to work because he told us so. He was very pleasant and smiling,. He asked if we were enjoying our food and honestly, I was too scared to say not really. My husband eagerly responded with 'its alright', but I cautiously looked over my shoulder to check just where the not so nice elder woman was. Yep, she was still behind the counter with a spatula in hand, totally void of all joy. There's a security officer onsight too. I can't help but to wonder if its in response to the elder woman's anti customer service vibes, that just might ignite the right one on the right day.
So, anyhoo, if you got a hankering for good lukewarm greens and cornbread at a Lithonia area restaurant that has absolutely no consistent welcoming atmosphere THIS is definitely IT! Be safe out there ya'll!
