The 13 Best Restaurants In Georgetown 2024

"Thomas Sweet is an old-timey ice cream shop with a hand-drawn chalkboard menu, fudge counter, and creamy homemade ice cream. The space is pretty small and there’s sometimes a line out the door, but you can kill time by deciding what you want from the slightly overwhelming menu. Mix and match flavors like rum raisin and coffee Oreo, but don’t stress too much over what you'll get—there's no such thing as a bad order here." - joe brantlinger, tristiana hinton, omnia saed

This is a local Gem! If do knit do anything else in Princeton, you have to stop by thus place. The ice cream is simply amazing, all made in house with so may amazing flavors. Thr scoop sizea and big too. I order a single scoop of my favorite Heath Crunch Bar and my cone always looks like a double. Staff always friendly and kwy you try any flavors you want. Plus thr old school carnival mirror 🪞 😅 is a plus, especially if you have kids with you. Every time we are in Princeton we stop here. YUM 😋

Google
Lovely icecream with huge portions, friendly & efficient staff & good seating both inside & out. The only negative was that there wasn’t a public restroom, so we had to go for a bit of a hike to use the bathroom! Easy to find on the main road through Princeton, so great location.

Google
Thomas sweet ice cream is a really good place! My friend and I visited this place, and we got chocolate chip ice cream and Swiss chocolate malt ice cream. They were both very good flavors. The ambience was great, too. There was initially a little bit of a queue so we waited in line for a few minutes. But the line moved quickly so it wasn’t too long of a wait. They also have a fun mirror to look into! I am sure I will visit again and try different ice cream flavors.

Google
The ice cream is rich and tasty, but unfortunately the double scoop size is really small for the price. All the flavors are very good especially the sweet cream, raspberry, chocolate, vanilla and also cinnamon. Some of the staff, including the tall guy with big hair, need a lesson in customer service, as they are fairly rude and don't know how to talk to people properly. For that reason, I would rather spend my money elsewhere.

Google
This is our Go-To ice cream spot in Princeton. The service is great and the quality of ice cream is always good! The portions are also outstanding! The only recommendation I have it the seating area. It is small, cramped and during the busy months you'll never find a seat. Additional available seating would be my main recommendation.

Rachana

Google
A famous ice cream spot in Princeton. Very busy during the summers, queues running along the sidewalks. There is ample of seating indoors and outdoor. Not many options to choose from but whatever they have got is pretty decent. Was expecting much more from this place in flavours. Loved that is not too dairy/ milky in flavour. They have blendables also. We tried vanilla & Chocolate raspberry.

Google
As a big fan of Thomas Sweets, I was quite disappointed on my last visit here. Much of the ice cream was melted, while some were so liquidy that ordering them would be a sticky death wish. Additionally, the back was kept quite unclean. The quality of the ice cream itself (when properly frozen) is good, but the defects outweighed the benefits in this last scenario.

Google
The ice cream at Thomas Sweet was fresh and absolutely delicious! As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the warm aroma of vanilla — so inviting and comforting. The whole store feels cozy and welcoming. A perfect spot for a sweet treat!

Yelp
I had a scoop of the main street coffee ice cream and it was wonderful. Great little place, worth the price and drive. Service was lightning fast which was good in a torrential downpour.

Yelp
Shai, the manager of this establishment has changed Thomas Sweet for the worst. Ben, the previous manager, made the environment extremely fun for both the customers and employees. I'm saddened to write this review but Shai should not be a manager and does not have the personality for the job. The lack of fun, upbeat music, employees in good spirits, and a helpful, energetic manager is awful. Thomas Sweet and the changes this summer is a disgrace to Princeton.

Yelp
Can't believe I've never been here. I've literally walked past this shop, in three different locations, several times, but have never stopped in to give it a try. Got the signature blend-in with cappuccino, coffee ice cream+ brownie bits. Great pick-me-up + dessert combo especially on a warm summer evening. The shop itself is fairly small with very limited seating, but there are picnic tables right outside where you can enjoy your dessert.

Yelp
Popped in impulsively, and the service was quick and kind. I was probably in the store for about 3 minutes. Lots of outdoor seating and a few tables indoors. They have a wide variety of toppings and I'll definitely be back to try one of their blended flavors. I got a small chocolate ice-cream with chocolate sprinkles. It was really rich and melted slowly on an 85°F day

Yelp
Worst experience. What a rip off. We go to the location in New Brunswick and always have great service and plenty of flavors and great portions. We were standing there while employees were not helping us. I am dairy free and only flavors were sorbet which was disappointing as the other locations have many options. So I passed but my husband wanted a small cone of soft serve. Was literally the smallest serving I've ever seen. Less than a kids size. And it was $5!!! And they were not very friendly about it- looked worn down and for the name it was really disappointing.
google avatar

Jill C.

Yelp
Came in for nostalgia reasons. They have two locations. The other is in New Brunswick. I ordered some dark chocolate covered nut clusters, a coconut cluster and a mint meltaway. None of them left a lasting impression. I think this chocolate is something certain people would really enjoy. For me it was a bit bland. The servers took our order, but weren't noteworthy.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic blendable options. Happy with both the service and the ice cream received here.

Yelp
We came here on a Saturday after dinner and it was packed! There was a line out the door! The staff was friendly and worked hard to get people in and out in a timely manner. My bf and I both got double scoops and really enjoyed it the coffee flavor! I only wish their portion sizes were bigger!

Yelp
Ordered a treat at Thomas Sweet Ice Cream on Saturday afternoon. Possibly my favorite ice cream spot, the Blend-Ins are hard to beat. Quality: Nostalgia may play a role in my love for Thomas Sweet Ice Cream. I ordered a Double Blend-In, combining their cookies n cream ice cream with Reese's Pieces and Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Out comes a melty and smooth, heavily peanut butter flavored masterpiece. On the verge of a milkshake, some ingredients work better than others, but I am a believer in my combo. Quantity: Large enough to share. Value: $7 for a Double Blend-In. Ambiance: Visited the Thomas Sweet Ice Cream shop in Princeton, New Jersey. It is located on the bottom floor a historic house along the main stretch. The inside area is a bit cramped, but there are a few tables along the wrap-around space. Outside they have additional tables with umbrellas on both sides of the building. Crowd: Line stretched outside on a busy weekend. Service: Not prepared for a weekend rush. Parking: Plenty of street parking.

Yelp
I first went to Thomas Sweet when I was in high school. I have since moved away but recently came back to visit. Very nostalgic and the ice ream is still wonderful- mint chip with sprinkles- yum!

Sierra K.

Yelp
The customer service was great. The employees were super helpful and allowed me to try a good amount of flavors. I had the strawberry ice cream and it was the best strawberry ice cream I have ever eaten. I did add butterfingers to blended it but I think their ice cream is good by itself.

Yelp
Thomas Sweet Ice Cream is a must visit in Princeton, NJ. They are famous for their "blend-in", which is using a drill to combine either ice cream or yogurt with any toppings and candies on the shelf. In the summer time, the line would wrap around the store all the way to the back! We got nutella with peanut butter cups blend-in. Woah, it was way overkill with the peanut butter cups but we loved it anyway. The ice cream was creamy but yet fluffy, just a good cup of ice cream really. They have many other flavors so we know for sure you will find your favorite combos too!

Terrie B.

Yelp
It was a beautiful day today in Princeton. That would explain the long line waiting for ice cream. When it was my turn, I explained to the young g woman behind the counter that I had an order for 9. She then told me that she could not serve me because that would take too long. I would like to know the difference if the nine people stood in line behind, would she serve us then? This happens after patiently waiting in line for 30 minutes. She became impatient and rude and said she would fill the ice cream order in all smalls. She would not have time to fill any other size. I'm posting this in hopes that the owner of this franchise sees this! You lost business not only today but in the future.

Yelp
A nostalgic ice cream shop in the heart of downtown Princeton. I went there on a summer Tuesday night, and there was a long line, indicating it's popularity. The ice cream was good, but expensive. The staff were not particularly friendly. There is some limited seating indoors, and outdoor seating options.
google avatar

Melissa J.

Yelp
Awful service this evening. The girl behind the counter seemed completely out of it and was either exhausted or high. She was slow and kept forgetting what we ordered. They were out of the soft serve ice cream and rather than refilling it, she told us the machine "didn't seem to be working"... I knew this wasn't true because I have worked in ice cream shops and I could tell the machine needed refilling of the product. On top of that, we were overcharged for "doubles" which we did not get. We asked for all singles. Then she took my ice cream to the back for (no joke) 10 minutes to put a topping on it which was odd. The guy in the back with her smirked as he came out of the back freezer with her so it made us uncomfortable about our ice cream... Would not recommend.

Zachary B.

Yelp
Overrated. I went twice while visiting for work. The ice cream flavors are average, but the ice cream is not cold enough. Even while indoors it melts way to fast. My wife makes fun of how fast I devour ice cream, but this stuff is basically not even frozen. They need better freezers. Also, both the waffle and sugar cones are soggy from the moment you get them. Very disappointed.

Yelp
It's been quite a few years since my last visit to Thomas Sweet, and we decided to have some ice cream for dessert after dinner up Nassau Street. The small unpretentious shop is quite popular in Princeton, serving both hard and soft ice cream along with blend-ins. My wife and I each had small cones -- two scoops each -- of hard ice cream. Both of us had PUMPKIN and my wife also had AMARETTO ALMOND. Both flavors were very good, but we didn't enjoy the ice crystals in the ice cream.

Yelp
I have been going to Tomas sweet for a long time almost 5 years me and my family used to go every weekend and every times the ice cream never disappoints. The second you walk in it smells like ice cream and the funny clown mirror is always something I look forward to it

Jonathan P.

Yelp
Classic Princeton Location. Probably my favorite location on the street for ice cream. Always super nice service and clean store!
google avatar

Giorgi B.

Yelp
Ice cream really sweet and tasty. Service super quick and friendly. Interior and vibe on point. One thing I would change is that since its too noisy hard to hear and be heard. Overall great place to eat ice cream! Our son loved it and the amount of toppings are endless!
google avatar

Starsheen D.

Yelp
I think I've found my new favorite ice cream!! The armaretto ice cream was really good and creamy. I had another flavor also, but I can't even remember what it was because the armaretto stood out although It wasn't over powering taste. The service was efficient, they seem to be pretty popular and busy and kept the line moving. The inside was small but they also had outdoor seating. You can stay to eat or have it wrapped to go. I would recommend.

Yelp
Have come to this same location since the early '80s and has a great concept for mixing fresh fruit candies cookies and treats into your ice cream. Well before the blizzard and 10 times better. Have very interesting flavors and combinations. If you are in Princeton you should definitely stop by and give your sweet tooth what it wants.
google avatar

Leena S.

Yelp
Thomas Sweets on Nassau Street has a prime location and is certainly a Princeton Institution. With many flavors of ice cream and frozen yogurt to choose from, you can't go wrong. They are famously known for their blend-ins. I'm not really a blend-in kinda girl, but my friends swear by them. I prefer the hard packed ice cream and any option that includes the key ingredient chocolate will do! On a recent visit I had the Midnight Jersey Shore (chocolate ice cream, caramel, brownies and sea salt). Heaven!!! In the summer months, the line can get a very long. But once you have that decadent treat in hand, roaming about Princeton is always fun! There is also the option of enjoying their outdoor seating. Meter parking is available all up and down Nassau Street.
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
Great ice cream, and sweet concept with the blend-in. Basically, you choose a base ice cream (e.g., vanilla, chocolate, cinnamon, etc.), and then you choose one or more toppings that they "blend in." Then you get a soft-serve-like ice cream with little chunks of whatever topping you chose. I've done the cinnamon with butterfinger blended in, and it was excellent. Also, the portions are huge if you get a blend-in (even with just one topping blended in). The ice cream isn't quite as good as the Bent Spoon, but if you're looking for something fun that will satisfy your inner child (or an actual child!), then Thomas Sweet is a great choice.

Yelp
Me and my Boyfriend came into Thomas Sweets for a quick break from our date and the ice cream was so overated!!! Me and my honeyboo both got stomach aches. I am not coming here again!
google avatar

Yelp
I stumbled upon Thomas Sweet Ice cream after eating dinner at Tacoria with my two cousins this past Sunday. My cousins had heard of it, but I didn't know there was an ice cream spot so close to everything. We decided to try it out and it was a decision well made. I asked for a single cup with a scoop of caramel macchiato + vanilla chocolate chip ice cream, and it was delicious!! The chocolate chips were super tasty and the caramel macchiato was a perfect amount of sweetness. Two scoops filled me up, and if I had gotten a 3rd scoop, I don't think I would be able to finish it. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Priya S.

Yelp
A family favorite since I was a child. We recently went to visit again after a very long time and it was so heartwarming to see that the interior had stayed the same and the formulation of their ice cream was the same as I had remembered it. Prices have increased a bit but a true Princeton gem!
google avatar

Michele S.

Yelp
Every visit to Princeton includes a trip to this wonderful small ice cream shop. Big fan of peanut butter chocolate ice cream. Large chunks of peanut butter! The small was to much ice cream to eat during the visit. Would definitely recommend.

Leo S.

Yelp
very deceptive marketing too long of a line chocolate ice cream was too chocolaty had me believe they were authentic new jersey so fake
google avatar

Betty L.

Yelp
This is the third and last time this place takes my money. The sea salt caramel brownie ice cream doesn't have any brownies, nor caramel in it (not in my 2 scoops, anyway). The cookie ice cream has no cookies, nor is cookie flavored. This place is so cheap with their ingredients, you don't get any of what they actually claim is in it. Bland, too.
google avatar

Lindsey A.

Yelp
Thomas Sweet is a Princeton classic. You can always find the line out the door on a hot summer day. Their ice cream is delicious! If you're a fan of Coldstone Creamery, this might be the place for you, as they have options to blend in toppings to the ice cream of your choice. I usually order the Midnight Jersey Shore -- chocolate with sea salt, caramel and brownie. So decadent! Also just tried a bit of their raspberry ice cream which was so sweet! I never order fruit ice cream flavors but I would for sure order the raspberry flavor one time. Prices are a little bit higher compared to other ice cream spots around the general Princeton area, to note. But with its location on Nassau Street and assortment of options, Thomas Sweet can't be beat!
google avatar

Simon W.

Yelp
Thomas Sweet is a pretty good option late in the evening. The Oreo batch had good chunks of cookie crumbles and a small kid serving doesn't set you back too much. I'd skip the hot fudge as it was rather stretchy and a bit clumpy, meaning it was hard to get a clean spoonful without needing to stretch the spoon from the cup pretty far. This might pose a more difficult exercise for the younger clientele. As it was, managing not to stain my dress shirt was a challenging. The flavor options were listed on the menu board above and not near or adjacent to the actual product in the freezer, so look up, not down to determine what flavors are available and choose from. There isn't much seating inside on this night as a portion of the store was closed but there was plenty of metered car parking in front.
google avatar

Neha M.

Yelp
Various flavors to try out I came to try the sugar free options per the yelp reviews there are plenty, however, when I went there was only chocolate and vanilla. I got mix of that ... and it was great! They have plenty of seats inside and Even outside. When we went there was a live band playing outside. So if the weather is nice you can grab your ice cream and enjoy some live music
google avatar

Lindsey F.

Yelp
This is a must visit while in Princeton. I asked the girl for a recommendation and it did not disappoint! I had the "midnight jersey shore" which consisted of chocolate ice cream, sea salt caramel, and brownie chunks. It was absolutely delightful! A healthy scoop and a fantastic consistency! It was thick almost like marshmallow fluff. They did take most credit cards but there was a $5 minimum
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
Well my travels through Princeton and a craving for ice cream brought me to this little spot. Yelpers helped me find the place, so thank you. There are some nice ice cream options and you will not be disappointed. The staff are friendly and proud of their ice cream. They make you feel welcomed and are excited when people come in. The place was rather busy which is a good sign and is located in a nice area with plenty of street parking and other shops along the street. Make sure you enter through the entrance as it helps move the line along. I tried the cinnamon ice cream and it was awesome. It was just the right amount of cinnamon and such a simple, unique ice cream flavor.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
Very poor experience recently. My wife and I came in while it was a bit busy and a employee in a Rutgers hoodie was extremely rude. He would cut us off mid sentence, rush off to make something and then come back and get frustrated that the order was wrong. At one point he slammed the counter so hard everyone looked at him and us. The whole experience was disappointing. We re long time supporters of Thomas sweet and have bought ice cream longer than this kid has been alive. At the end of the experience the entire order was still wrong. The level of customer service has circled the drain and the ordering system is in the stone ages. Tldr. Save yourself a lousy over priced experience and enjoy one of the other lovely ice cream places in town. Thomas sweet fix your system and teach your employees how to properly treat customers.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
Oh. My. God is this ice cream incredible. Service is amazing and there ice cream is amazing and all of there other menu items as well. 10/10 would definitely recommend! And the place is really nice. It sets the vibes

Yelp
Was told this is THE famous ice cream place in princeton, so i came in with very high expectations. Had my first order which i even forget what i ordered, it was ok and SO sweet, and other than that, all the add on mix are more sweet candy and chocolate which made it worse! Be honest any grocery store brands are better!! Came back another few times only because my in laws like it/used to come here. I never ordered anything for myself, but i did try my hubby's order, again it's ok, Dairy Queen is better than them in my opinion, and after they blend the ice-cream, it's all melting becoming a bowl of sweet soupe!! Gross!!
google avatar

Silvia L.

Yelp
I thought I will never love any vanilla flavor ice cream as it is too common to be seen. However, I was seriously got impressed by their cheery vanilla! Highly highly recommended! And be sure you don't visit too late. Otherwise, you could miss their house made waffle cone.

Yelp
Went here at 7:00 pm tonight and ordered a vanilla soft serve. I was told that the vanilla would have a tiny bit of chocolate mixed in with it because something was wrong with their machine. I said okay and I regret it. It was the worst I've ever had. Super icy and an off white color due to the chocolate leakage or whatever. .. I couldn't even finish it (just ate the sprinkles off of it) because it was so bad. I probably should have went in and asked for a refund because clearly their machine had more issues than just chocolate blending in with the vanilla. The employee tried doing the swirly twisty design as it was coming out and it came out like a big glob of icy goo. Also, the employee seemed like she didn't wanna be there. Which I get it, it's work, but at least be decent to the customers. I asked what sizes they had, and she kind of annoyedly just pointed to the selection of cones and said "everything's right in front of you". I said yes I see the cones but what sizes do you have? Only when I asked that she said "single/double". If prices/sizes were posted somewhere for soft-serve I wouldn't have had to ask. Since soft serve isn't hand scooped, single/double doesn't even make sense to be honest. She said double "was just a little bit more ice cream than a single". Waste of money (overpriced) and terrible terrible ice cream. Don't waste your time or money, it's not worth it. I'd give 0 stars if possible.
google avatar

Jil K.

Yelp
Thick and chunky ice cream at it's best. The Chocolate chocolate chip ice cream that we had was a perfect combination of tasty and sweet. It was filled with chocolate chunks. We had it after our dinner. Even one scoop can be sufficient for two people.
google avatar

Elisa H.

Yelp
Wow- that sweet cream is something else. It's barely sweetened but oh so so creamy. I had it side by side with cake batter (another fave) but it was infinitely better and unique. Cake batter was good, requisite, sweet. Sweet cream- antithesis to its name- is not sweet but aMazing. Even tho I have a sweet tooth like no one else- this perfect mixture works. Go try their sweet cream. If you like "Milk" soft serve- this is the closest to that insanely popular dessert crazed fad brand. We also had the strawberry which was ok.

Justine Y.

Yelp
10/10 highly recommend! Midnight jersey shore (chocolate ice cream, sea salt caramel swirl, and brownie bits) + jersey shore (vanilla ice cream, sea salt caramel swirl) is my go-to order, and it is HEAVEN. Don't waste your time waiting in the line at the Bent Spoon! Walk down the street and go to Thomas Sweet, and you will not regret it.
google avatar

Melissa I.

Yelp
This place was okay. The staff was efficent. I had the Vanilla Chocolate Chip with Gummy Bears on top, nothing too exciting. The ice cream was just fine but I prefer to Bent Spoon which is a completely blocks away.
google avatar

Paige Sophia D.

Yelp
Thomas Sweet Ice Cream was delicious! We got the Nutella ice cream base with blendables, which added a great texture and additional flavor to the Nutella ice cream. Best part of the Nutella ice cream was the chunks of Nutella that we'd bite into! This location was pretty busy and had a line out the door but we were able to go in when the line wasn't as long. There is a separate entrance and exit which is great for controlling crowds in these times.

Çağın A.

Yelp
This one star is not for their ice-cream. It's actually great. I went there three times in a row with my dog. We waited in line, got our ice-cream, and left for the first two times. The last time, which was our last evening at Princeton, the manager of the evening didn't let us in because someone spilled ice-cream on the floor half an hour earlier. What a reason to disappoint people! My dog is a little puppy and I could have even held him in my arms during the few minutes we were there. Not to mention that they should have already wiped the floor... Will never come back!
google avatar

AJ A.

Yelp
So my coworkers and I were originally planning on going to a boba place but from one of their recommendations for the "Princeton Experience" we were convinced to try Thomas Sweet and guess what -- no regrets! This place is definitely a staple in the Princeton area when it comes to ice cream and in the dead of winter this place was STILL poppin'. If you can have an ice cream place that thrives in the winter that is place that you have to try. I got the Jersey Midnight which was amazing and super creamy but I'm sure that with any flavor you can't go wrong. + you can do "blend-ins" which are toppings mixed in with your ice cream!
google avatar

Yelp
I think it was a menopausal moment that made me enter the door of Thomas Sweet filled as it was with young, hyperactive coeds. That much sugar would make anyone bounce off the walls. I have no doubt the ice cream here is handmade in small batches because that level of saturated creaminess would be criminal otherwise. Hey, if I was a Princeton freshman serving this ol' geezer who kept asking a lot of questions about what blending exactly means, I would certainly have a lot less patience than the young girl who was serving me. After much deliberation and much competition from the squealing sorority girls breathing down my neck to order, I asked for a $4.50 medium cup of Ginger Snap, French Vanilla and Nutella all blended together and then swirled with bits of Heath bars for texture (see photo). You would think I would have a moment of transcendence with that combination of flavors. Not really. It was good alright but so thick and sweet that I was done in about five spoonfuls. I just had to stop at that point and consider all the sins I committed that day. This was but one of them. ICE CREAM - 3 stars...the smushable kind, creamy and sweet AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...fun college hang-out with a big open area for group licking...wait, that sounded so wrong SERVICE - 3.5 stars...there was blending expertise there, I'm sure TOTAL - 3 stars...who is Thomas Sweet anyway?

Yelp
Yum! And what a cute little ice cream parlor! The staff was friendly and allowed us to try several samples. I had the chai and caramel apple pie and mmmmmm I really enjoyed the combo!!! First time seeing and trying chai ice cream and I liked it a TON. I think this was creamier than Bent Spoon but hey I'm not all that picky when it comes to ice cream. I liked the seating options.
