"Hoarder of Hyatt points? This playful hotel located with The National is one of the best options in Downtown Dallas. From the rooftop pool to the spa and the see-and-be-seen skyline lounges, you are bound to get into some fun here. We love the mid century modern style suites that have half bathrooms off the entertaining spaces for those guests that gather in your room post dinner at Little Daisy. Best of all, you are five minutes or less from the Dallas Arts District, Dallas Farmers Market, and the original Neiman Marcus." - Diana Oates

"Why book? Everything’s bigger here, from the urban outdoor space to the spa amenities to the room footprints. Set the scene: There is a lot to grab your eye when you first walk into the Thompson Dallas’s long, narrow lobby, which is lined with bookshelves filled with glass and ceramic objects and pedestals nearly overflowing with floral arrangements by Shane Friesenhahn, whose technicolor floral shop sits just around the corner from the check-in desk. It’s not the kind of lobby you sit and stay awhile—though there’s plenty of seating. It propels you forward, into the hotel’s elevator banks to its many restaurants and spa, into the on-site barber shop, Friesenhahn’s shop, or out into Dallas’s downtown towards the Neiman Marcus flagship and FortyFiveTen. I visited on a weekday amid the pandemic, which meant the lobby and elevators were quiet—but everyone from hardened business execs to excitable young weekenders can find a place here. The backstory: Once the tallest building west of the Mississippi, the National sat vacant for nearly a decade before developers launched a complete renovation. The first Thompson outpost in Texas now takes up about half the building, with office spaces and residences on the upper floors. The exterior was designed in the ‘60s by Goerge Dahl, the architect behind some of Dallas’s most iconic buildings, including much of Fair Park and the Neimans flagship. While much of the building—particularly the lobby—have a distinctly modern feel, much of the building’s original materials, like the ninth floor’s travertine walls, were restored. The rooms: I stayed in one of the 544-square-foot corner rooms, which featured an extra-large leather couch in its living room, workspace, king-sized bed, and bathroom with a rainfall shower and freestanding tub—all with views of blue-tinted Fountain Place and the Trinity River. The bed also features one of my all time favorite hotel amenities: a fold out reading light built into the headboard so you can stay up late without blinding the person next to you. Throughout the rooms, Mad Men–meets–urban–cowboy decor brings in 1960s-style furniture, light fixtures, and brass accents, all styled with cow print and leather. In-room amenities are equally as luxe, thanks to the Kate Weiser chocolates in the mini-bar, Frette robes, and DS & Durga Bowmakers bath products. If you’re looking for more extravagance, though, book room 4903, one of two 2,000-square-foot penthouses on the 49th floor. It’s the highest penthouse hotel suite in the state and takes full advantage of its height with sweeping floor-to-ceiling windows offering unobstructed views from the dining room, bedroom, and even soaking tub, placed just in front of the tinted window. There’s also a fireplace, a private elevator, and a dedicated concierge to use during your stay. (This penthouse starts at $10,000 per night.) Food and drink: You’re flush for choice when it comes to eating at the Thompson—and one restaurant-bar in particular, Catbird, is drawing locals who aren’t spending the night. Inside, the dimly lit, leather booths and plush seating give off an exclusive social club feeling, while the greenery-covered pergola on the expansive terrace offers a much more tropical vibe. (Expect to take lots of Instagram photos here.) Cocktails and small plates are the go-tos here. Earlier in the day, head to Nine, which serves breakfast and lunch staples, perfect for local business meetings and weekend brunches. Up on the 49th floor, not far from the penthouses, the National’s two restaurants are set to open in March, both helmed by Michelin-star Chef Danny Grant. Monarch’s dishes are centered around the restaurant’s wood-fired grill (think wagyu tomahawk steaks), while 60-seat Kessaku will focus on sushi and sake. While Texas was allowing indoor dining while I stayed, I opted for room service instead which comes from Nine until the early afternoon and Catbird in the evening. (Orders after 9 p.m. come off a petite menu with basic wraps and deserts.) My Texas beef bao buns, grilled brussel sprouts, and charcuterie board arrived in about 30 minutes. While they probably would have been better eaten in one of Catbird’s lively, dark corners, they did the trick just fine on my room’s leather couch. The spa: Located on the hotel’s ninth floor, the spa offers massage treatments, body wraps, scrubs, waxing, and facials. There are also 30-minute treatments for those on a time crunch or locals looking for a lunch break neck massage. Leave time for all of the spa’s extra amenities after your treatment, like the infrared saunas and hot and cold plunge pools on the spa’s terrace overlooking downtown. In true Texas form, there’s also a blow dry bar and nail salon in the spa, too. The neighborhood/area: You’re smack in the middle of downtown Dallas here, around the corner from The Joule and The Adolphus and within walking distance to top-tier shopping. Some of the cities best restaurants are a short drive away, so be sure to have a rental car if you plan on exploring beyond a four-block radius. Despite the hustle and bustle, the rooms here are a relatively quiet retreat (sometimes I could faintly hear the DART light rail from the station below). The service: Friendly without being pushy, service here is what you make of it. The front desk and man who delivered my room service were quick to engage in conversation when I initiated but offered simple hellos when I was rushing through the door. Accessibility: All of the hotel’s spaces are accessible via large elevators and guests with disabilities or mobility concerns can book ADA-friendly rooms with lowered thermostats, light switches, door latches, emergency strobe lights, and accessible bathrooms. Anything left to mention? A huge perk here is the outdoor space, some two acres of it. With tons of seating around fireplaces and under trellises, a large pool, sunbathing deck, and resort-style cabanas, and the spa’s plunge pools, there’s plenty of room to spread out outside. It is downtown, so you won’t always have sweeping views (you may be looking into an office building while you down a happy hour cocktail) but the all-weather spaces offer the chance to socialize or relax outside, a boon amid the pandemic." - Meredith Carey

Yelp
The Thompson Dallas is a stunning hotel in the heart of the city. The hotel common areas and rooms are luxurious, sophisticated and elegant. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by an impressive artifact hall that leads you to the reception area. I love it! The rooms are chic and beautifully designed. I only left the hotel once in two days. The gym is top-notch and the pool, one of my favorites in Dallas, offered a relaxing afternoon. Dining at the Thompson Dallas is amazing, with two fantastic restaurants on-site. Little Daisy offers a charming breakfast with easy access to the pool. Monarch provides an upscale spot with a great view. I went to both restaurants during my visit. This building used to be the iconic, century-old First National Bank Tower, a historic landmark in downtown Dallas. Completed in 1965, the building was once the tallest in the city and designed by architect George Dahl, known for his work on the State Fair of Texas.

Yelp
Really nice property for a getaway and I plan to visit again. I had a great suite in the 19th floor with a great view. Pros: nice and spacious room with great amenities. Loved the lobby and art gallery. The sushi restaurant on the 50th floor was fun, trendy and had both excellent food and service to match an amazing view of the city. Room service was good. Staff everywhere were beyond nice and helpful. 9th floor amenities were very nice. Cons: no turndown service. No ice in room. Towels were very small. Amenity fee around $35.

Yelp
We visited the Thompson one evening in June for a friend's wedding. The ballroom was elegant and spacious, with good views of the surrounding buildings through the tall windows. The Thompson itself was beautiful and had great amenities. The staff in the lobby were very helpful in directing guests throughout the wedding weekend.

Yelp
Did a quick overnight mom staycation here with a friend and had a great time! As Globalist, I was able to reach out ahead of time and they provided a nice bottle of bubbly, that was a nice surprise. Room was spacious and bed was very comfy for me. The hotel is right in downtown so the street noise can be too much for people and they provide ear plugs! We parked valet, which was complimentary due to booking the room with points, as Globalist. I'd love to come back and explore the hotel more and the spa.

Yelp
Outstanding visit to the Thompson. I was able to check in right away, thanks to AMEX Platinum and was upgraded, which was unexpected! Upon check in, I was asked what brought me to town and things that I was interested in. The next day there was a box of chocolates and a hand written note with suggestions on the specific things I mentioned the previous day. I had breakfast a The National both mornings and was somewhat disappointed at the turn around time from sitting down to receiving breakfast. There is a great patio and very cute bar located in the building so it makes it nice to have a cocktail after a long day. I don't really have any cons about this place that would prevent me from staying again! Was very pleased overall with everything and thought the room was outstanding!

Yelp
We enjoyed our short stay at The Dallas Thompson. We were upgraded to a suite and it was ready for our early checked in. All of the staff were pleasant and helpful. We had a function to attend, and Trey (our driver) took us there and picked us up in a Porsche. When we returned to the hotel we went up to the rooftop bar, which was packed. We did find a table, but we didn't stay. Being at least 40 years older than their patronage it was too loud for us (smiley face). Room service was a disappointment. After midnight there is a limited menu with cold items only. We ordered the cheese tray that was not great. It was brought to us in a paper sack and the cheese was in a to-go box with plastic utensils. Covid is over; bring back first class service please. One other negative was the parking garage. It looked like it had not been taken care of. There was trash everywhere, the walls looked terrible, and we had to walk up filthy stairs with our luggage to get to the lobby. Ending on a positive note, we will stay there again.

Yelp
Conceivably the worst luxury hotel in Dallas. Bums everywhere, horrible service. I asked for cold bottled waters to my room and they dang near laughed at me while telling me that was not possible. I asked for several other things that the front desk had no idea about. Not to mention that the last two nights I've heard bums screaming outside my room. Bad location. This place is a nightmare

Yelp
I had a highly disappointing experience at the Thompson Hotel in Dallas, particularly in relation to their valet parking service. I visited the National Building which houses Monarch restaurant, Kessaku restaurant, Catbird lounge, and The Thompson hotel. Due to the unavailability of regular parking, I had to pay for VIP parking. I arrived around 9pm and left around 12:15am. To my shock, when I walked outside, I noticed the lights on my car were on, and as I got closer, I realized my car had been running and unattended for a staggering 3 hours straight. In downtown Dallas, where there are often safety concerns, leaving a vehicle running and unattended is not just inadvisable; it's also illegal in Texas. I promptly addressed this issue with both the valet company and the hotel management. However, I was met with disappointment on both fronts. Neither the valet nor the hotel management offered any form of compensation for this egregious error. Even more disappointing, the hotel manager failed to return my calls, showing a lack of concern for the situation. Leaving a 2023 BMW 430 XI unattended for such an extended period is unacceptable, and the hotel's response to this serious security lapse was inadequate. This experience has left me deeply dissatisfied with the Thompson Hotel in Dallas.

Yelp
Good location, nice modern rooms, and gorgeous public spaces. Good pick in downtown Dallas. Easy walking distance or a short Uber ride to some good nearby restaurants and tourist sites. One of the most beautiful aspects of this hotel is the main corridor as you walk in (check out my photo). It sets the tone for the equally nicely appointed rooms. Rooms are modern and VERY spacious. The ones I've stayed in are about 1000+ square feet. My favorite are the ones with the soaking tub that overlook the city. Beds are super comfy too. I slept in one day until 2:30pm. The rooftop deck is super nice and one of my favorite " hideaways" here after a workout at their spacious gym. Another plus is the Monarch Restaurant located inside, from 2-star Michelin chef, Danny Grant. It's a hot Dallas restaurant, and worth going to, even if you're not staying on So why not 5 stars? First, it seems based on room category, certain rooms have extremely dim night lighting. Apparently, the staff is aware of this because every time I've mentioned it, the response back is that other guests have also had the same issue. Ok. Well, maybe time to actually fix Secondly, at $50 PER night ($48 plus tax) the valet parking situation is very disappointing. On more occasions than not, they've had trouble locating my car. They usually end up asking me for my license plate number (sorry, but that's not something I've committed to memory). I've always presented my ticket, so why do they also require the license plate number? And if that's standard protocol, why don't they write it down on their portion of the ticket? Or what's the point of even having a ticket? Plus, it always takes forever for them to retrieve the car. I valet park all the time everywhere, and I've never experienced so much confusion. At the end of the day, I've had many good experiences here.

Yelp
I struggled between 3-4 stars for this spot. I decided on 4 because I know lots of these things are personal preference. Usually I opt for a boutique hotel off the beat and path but decided to change it up for the weekend. 3 stars because: Valet is on an extremely congested street. It slowed down us checking in by 30+ mins. A serious con for people who were tired of being in a car. I had to call multiple times about room service tasks before they were completed. Things took a few phone calls before things got handled. But once they did it was good. The spa services book up fast and day passes come with a cap based on guest with services booked. The spa lacked a lot of small details. No infused water, no infused iced towels. Things that may be subtle unnecessary attentions to detail, but the things a guest appreciate when available that makes them return. Most on site restaurants had a dress code, which is fine but a major inconvenience when you're not ready to be dressed for the evening...or not wanting to get dressed at all. Our air conditioner SUCKED in our room. Set at 65 and was still very warm, so it made for an uncomfortable sleep. I also think each room should include earplugs because the outside traffic gets noisy at night (another small detail moment). But I took that with a grain of salt because we are in the heart of downtown. Hotel is a little confusing to navigate but okay once you get the hang of it. 4 stars because: The service was accommodating when I voiced a concern which is really appreciated. The hotel is seriously located close to so many things. Which was great for me. Great decor, spacious rooms. It was a real swank factor. A little pretinous at times but that has nothing to do with the staff. Everyone from valet to front desk to spa to food and beverage came with an extremely kind service person. Overall, I'd stay again. I just expected a little more bells and whistles for the price point. It was a good stay which is why I overall opted for 4 stars. Being Persnickety shouldn't take away stars. Lol.

Yelp
i LOVED the thompson dallas! i was so happy to see that it is on par with the nashville location. i took away one star because the location although in the city, was far away from everything and the people around were questionable (hence the security presence). the inside was immaculately decorated though and i absolutely loved the rooftop bars and restaurants. you truly don't even need to leave the hotel for great cuisine, entertainment and drinks! this hotel actually has every single amenity. worth every dime! rooms were pristine, beds super comfy! front desk staff was so friendly and willing to help with anything! the door men were always great to help too. definitely will be staying here again.

Yelp
We stayed at the Thompson Dallas when visiting family in Dallas recently. We arrived at 3pm and were checked into our room right away. It was a beautiful room on a high floor. The bathroom shower had no door and the potty closet had a clear glass door. Things got off to a rocky start when we asked the front desk where the bar was because we had some time to kill before meeting up with family. The woman at the front desk looked us up and down and shook her head. No, she told us, you will not be allowed to go to the bar at 3 o'clock in the afternoon dressed in jeans. They were relatively new jeans without holes. The way she looked us up and down made us both feel if she didn't really think we belonged in her hotel at all. I know that brand loyalty means nothing to hotel chains, but we've spent hundreds of nights in Hyatt hotels. Again, I got the impression they'd just as soon we took our business elsewhere. Having lived in downtown Dallas previously, we did take our business elsewhere. During the weekend we went to the Woolworth. It's a gorgeous bar just a couple of blocks away next to the Eye. The bartender made us a custom cocktail that he and the manager had worked on and it was lovely. We also went to CBD Provisions, another beautiful bar. It's inside the Joule Hotel, which we have stayed at previously and I highly recommend. It was also fun going to The Exchange for cocktails. The manager really took care of us when he found out we had been ejected from the Hyatt. There are so many really wonderful places walking distance from the Hyatt that you never have to eat or drink there. A few more points about the hotel room. I slept very badly because the pillows were just awful. Such an expensive hotel with such cheap pillows. The street noise doesn't bother me, but be prepared. Cars race down the street all night long. We always travel with a noise machine. The hotel itself is very quiet. I thought it was curious that Hyatt is still posting on Twitter. I guess the sort of things going on over there are acceptable. On our last morning there we did decide to eat breakfast in the restaurant. I ordered pancakes and was served burnt pancakes that were raw in the middle. But, at least we were allowed to actually be in the restaurant, so there's that. There are a number of beautiful hotels in downtown Dallas to pick from. Choose wisely.

Yelp
Spacious rooms, good downtown locations, well appointed with attentive staff. A fantastic place for a stay in, business travel, or something in between. Plenty of restaurants around. If you end up going to Catbox make sure you're well-dressed, otherwise there are ample other establishments you can enjoy nearby. Room is comfortable, large, with a nicely stocked bar and ample supplies. Bed is not overly soft. Overall, a very amenable and pleasant place to stay!

Kara W.

Yelp
Pros: nicely decorated, attentive staff, great location with lots to do Cons: bed was super hard and the all night street racing on Akard made it difficult to sleep.

Lorenzo H.

Yelp
The Thompson Hotel offers some of the best nightlife in Dallas, featuring Catbird, Monarch, and Kessaku. Between private messages, social media inquiries, and being stopped by guest in the Lobby I'm often asked which to choose, and why? I don't give answers without thought!!!After many evenings, meals, cocktails, and coins enjoyed in each, I'm ready to share my best of. Lorenzo's Thompson Hotel's Best Of! Best food experience Monarch Best night time experience Catbird Best service experience Monarch Best ambiance Catbird Best crowd Catbird Best bang for your buck Monarch Best overall Vibe Catbird I look forward to seeing you in one of the three very soon, because I love them all! Xoxo Lorenzo!

Yelp
Beautiful hotel in the middle of downtown Dallas. The restaurant pool and gym on the 9th floor are also great. Looking up to get upgraded to a suite for our stay and it was absolutely huge. Way more space than we needed but it had a great view. Only complaint might be that the pool seem to not be maintained. There were a bunch of towels and empty cans The two times we tried to visit the pool. It was pretty cold out so it might just be because nobody was using the pool.

Ardon F.

Yelp
Just moved to the city last night and stayed at the Thompson downtown for our first night and really just wanted to highlight the amazing service we received. Mariah, David and Martesha at the front desk and then Fredo at valet were so warm, welcoming, and helpful. Went above and beyond to make sure our stay was great. So just wanted to say thank you!

Yelp
How is this listed on the fine hotels list? Swanky hotel and highly recommended by other sites, but don't seem to understand why after spending 4nights here. We've stayed plenty of times at the Thompson in the Gold Coast (Chicago) and always had a splendid experience. However, The Thompson in Dallas failed to deliver. To begin with, if you drive a low profile car, be cautious as Valet requires you to go up a reduced curb onto a sidewalk like to park, like whoa whoa whoa. You are exposed to the busy traffic not two feet away from the extremely busy traffic from the street. The valet guys are all gathered in a huddle at their post instead of waiting on customers, which is poor. We had to roll down our window after being parked right in front of the place, flag down the valet guys and ask about where to pull for service. The lay out of the hotel is using wasted space on the entry walkway instead of originally added appropriate easy access to a drive up full valet service area to a accommodate guest and keep them safe from busy intersection down town dallas traffic? The renderings make this look very welcoming but in reality they could have added a better layout. The way this is set up, good luck on getting your car out of this area once valet drops it off for you, too busy and they don't even help you get out. Also when you request your vechicle via text, they ask you if you want your vehicle pulled up on the Monarch side if the Main side? When we picked the Monarch, the guys at valet had no clue and mentioned that they don't have a device that allows them to see such special request. Why have the option if their system isn't set up properly. Poor coordination and management. Mainly all Valet are in their early 20's which there is no professionalism so expect a shaky experience. Walls are paper thin and could not get shut eye. We asked housekeeping to replace the crappy super low quality COMMERCIAL grade toilet paper. The rim of the TP didn't even fit the roller??? See pic! Like how was this even a mistake. We called twice downstairs and maid never brought the toilet paper. We had made reservations in advance and listed TWO adults, they only had one pair of slippers. It's the details and little things that later on add up on the over all experience. The second day that the maid made our room, she left me an IVORY commercial grade soap for the sink, and forgot to leave shampoo, conditioner and body wash. When we got to the pool, we froze our toes off, the POOL is NOT HEATED, outdoors and in direct sun all day, but that doesn't even help warm up the pool at all. Even the pool assistant laughed after we jumped right out of the pool in a chilling shaking mode. Lol what a joke. The blinds are so hard to pull on the string, I caused damage on my fingers and knuckles from pulling them for privacy and while opening them. They felt out of order and somehow stuck. The lighting in the bathroom sucked it made it hard to apply maje up. The hotel does have great taste in decor all around the spaces.

Yelp
Celebrated my birthday here for a night. Had dinner at Monarch and spa and breakfast at the hotel. The pool is at the rooftop. The hotel is beautiful and clean. Service is good.

Jade J.

Yelp
I enjoyed my stay at the Thompson Dallas but I wouldn't go out of my way to stay there again. They were very gracious and gave me a suite on the top floor. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the views were spectacular. I didn't love the location at the center city since it was hard for me to go on runs in the morning. Also, the wifi wasn't the best in the rooms which was aggravating and they forgot to clean my room one day. Another reason I wouldn't stay again is because it was hard for Uber drivers and Uber eats drivers to find the location to pick me up. They would often go to wrong location despite putting the distinct address of the Thompson hotel in my phone. Overall, nice place but a bit noisy and not the most user friendly.

Patty S.

Yelp
I stayed here for a staycation. I asked for early check in and was happy to receive it. This was all done via email check in. I dropped my car at valet with no problems. To the person that says that they ask you to pull your car up on the curb if you have a low end car, that's just not true. They ask everyone to do that to get out of traffic and to allow you to unload out of the street. The room is gorgeous. Everything about it is fantastic. The decor, the bathroom and shower.... I have no complaints. The all day restaurant is very good. It used to be a buffet, but they took the complaints and changed the menu. I ate the Royale sandwich and also the oewchie bowl and fried green Benedict. All were very tasty. I just wish they had a Chai latte. Maybe next time? The fitness rooms and pool were very nice as well. All in all, I say it's pretty solid and I would stay again. I always use my white nose app, carry an eye mask and earplugs, as the street noise below was very loud. And when it was time to get my car, it asked if I wanted to pick up on the monarch side or the main side. They also allowed you to tip electronically. Solid.

Robert H.

Yelp
Spent $500 a night and was referred by American Express. Honestly not impressed at all. Despite the staff at the hotel being great, the room (counters) was dirty upon arrival and the Friday had loud music on the pool roof until 12am and couldn't sleep at all. Room service did not offer breakfast despite being told so. Could forgive most of it if the hotel didn't ignore my email. Not a 4 star hotel experience. Do not recommend.

Yelp
Need a staycation? THIS IS WHERE YOU STAY MY GOD! My boyfriend booked us a staycation for Valentine's weekend and I DID NOT want to leave. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, and I mean every inch. The flowers, the artwork, the furniture - BEAUTIFUL. Now, don't come here if you're not willing to spend a little because it's a bit pricy, but worth it all- promise. They practiced social distancing, required masks, and provided masks and hand sanitizer-which I loved. The room is beautiful. We stayed in the King Premium. We had a beautiful view of downtown, the artwork was gorgeous, the bed was so freaking comfy. The shower felt amazing, and was spacious. I really wanted a bathtub, but all the rooms with bathtubs were booked, I was pretty sad about it - but maybe next time! What I loved about this hotel is you really don't have to leave. They currently have 2 restaurants that are open, and have 2 more that are opening SOON. We checked out Catbird and The Nine At National. I'll be reviewing both thoroughly on the yelp pages! Food was great at both - but the service wasn't the greatest at the Nine - Hopefully that gets better. Now, if you do want to leave the hotel for activities...there is so many great options within walking distance to check out. We walked to coffee shops. Last, but not least - THE GYM is amazing! We worked out in the mornings, and again - social distancing and limited number of people. They have great equipment, and again, didn't want to leave! Absolutely loved this hotel and can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Our favorite dog-friendly hotel! This was one of the most seamless experiences I've had staying in a hotel with my 90 pound furry friend. We loved the rooftop dog park! They even had separate fenced off areas so that you could allow your dog to run in their own space if needed. No weight limit and no pet fee! I have a very boujee Berner and she settled in instantly! The sleeping rooms were spacious and super comfortable beds. Especially loved the large rainfall shower! Wish all hotels were this dog-friendly

Yelp
We are here at the Thompson for my husband's 50th birthday. We planned this trip around the spa (specifically sauna, cold plunge and eucalyptus steam in the facility) and beautiful hotel photos. While the hotel is grand, the little details are disappointing so far. Our sheets, towels, robes and slippers in the room are extremely worn, many with holes in them. The staff members who booked the reservations were really accommodating, asking why we were visiting and noting that it's a special birthday celebration. The team on site has been kind and professional but not overly accommodating and there's been no mention of my husband's birthday, which I thought would have been a nice touch. In the restaurant, the waiter was befuddled by our asking about gluten free menu options. We were happy to pay for a luxurious stay but so far we are having to talk ourselves into being satisfied with our choice. We are a fan of Hyatt properties and we feel a bit let down.

Yelp
If you are looking for a high-end retreat, or maybe just a great rooftop pool,, then Thompson is definitely the place! Their amenities are top notch, paired with two really good options for dining with stunning views and a central location. The real reason I am writing this review is because of their excellent customer service. I had the pleasure of working with TEHANI AINA who was very professional and polite but most of all brought that human element of caring to our conversation. Thank you for making our trip!

Yelp
The Thompson is a high end boutique hotel from the Hyatt brand. Everything in the hotel is first class, clean, unique with plenty of cool vibes and great ambience. The staff is professional, friendly and knowledgeable about the hotel and the area around. The art placed around the building really brings the spirit of the place out. With so many options, this place stands out as one of the better places I'll stay at.

Yelp
I understand that there is a shortage on staff everywhere, but management and the layout of this hotel is poor. To start off with, the moment you drive up to valet for service, you should feel welcomed and accommodating. None of that was experienced in the first few minutes. Instead, I was confused on where to park to get valet service. We Were shocked that we had to hunt down the guys at the valet, mind you, all while parked in a busy one way road. We drive a low profile car, so you can imagine being told we had to drive up a few inches off onto a sidewalk and it was just a cluster. Thinking things will get better once we see the check in guy at the front fest, nope First thing I asked was if he could help me out by making g reservations for us at the Monarch, as all reservations were booked up. He immediately said he couldn't do any preferential treatment as the restaurants are their own entity and they could not pull any strings. I told him my wife and I were celebrating 8year anniversary, nope nothing special. Ok so I thought to my self..... no worries. We had a loud barking down that seemed to have been left alone in the room. The walls are paper thin, we had trouble sleeping even with white noice app. The problem is that people all seem to have forgotten peoples skills. The little things made our experience a lot rocky than smooth sailing. So disappointed and when you are a high Cali we hotel, how do you allow things like this to happen?

Yelp
DONT BRING VALUABLES! It will get stolen. Doesn't matter if you lock it up or leave out by accident. Staff will take it an the hotel won't do anything about it.

Yelp
Looks can definitely be deceiving. When I arrived and checked into the Thompson hotel, I was so impressed with the lobby and the entire layout. I was looking forward to receiving some really good five star service. Instead, I got very sub-standard service. I repeatedly requested housekeeping services that never came. I was also surprised by the lack of quality in the room service breakfast. In particular, potato hash was undercooked. Honestly, I am never one to complain, but for the price that I'm paying at a presumable five-star hotel, I expected much better service than this. That said, I was very impressed with the front desk guy who tried to make it right by offering me complementary room service. I declined and thanked him for the nice gesture, but I really prefer to have my housekeeping done instead. Oh well.

Yelp
The short: The Thompson Dallas is a beautiful property that I'd give a 4.5-star out of 5 stars; but docked 1/2-star due to the staffing shortage. The long: According to a local Dallas native I met during my stay, the historic building is the former First National Bank Tower ("the National") that sat vacant for over a decade. The newly reopened 52-story high rise is now a mix-use building that houses the stylish Thompson Dallas hotel, 324 luxury apartments, office space, and upscale retailers. I stayed in a King Bed Deluxe during a business trip in mid-November 2021, and overall enjoyed my stay at the Thompson. All hotel staff from the doorman, to front desk, room service & concierge are friendly, helpful & professional. However, as typical of all my pandemic travel experiences, I found the hotel woefully understaffed - which is particularly apparent in the hotel's restaurants where it took too long to place an order & receive my food in the otherwise empty restaurant (both Nine at the National, and Catbird). The front desk check-in was flawless. However, arriving from out-of-state, I was confused to see that some of the hotel staff wears safety masks, while others do not. So it's ambiguous as to whether COVID safety is really much of a priority at the hotel. But in Texas, nowhere outside DFW airport or the hotel lobby does anyone actually wear a mask during the pandemic. My overnight stay was in a 515 sf King Bed Deluxe room with king bed, 55" flat panel, leather sofa, generous workspace, and a well-sized bathroom with rainfall shower. The room's luxury decor is a stylish mix of midcentury modern X urban cowboy, with lots of natural light pouring in from the floor-to-ceiling windows, a solid walnut panel bed, masculine leather furnishings, and brass fixtures. For anyone who has the time, the world class fitness center and rooftop pool are absolute must-visits. In fact, the ultra-premium quality of the fitness center is on par with any membership clubs. The quality is so good that I believe these are shared amenities available to those who live in the residences. I also had a chance experience event catering. Again, I think the service suffered slightly from being overcrowded in an undersized space AND understaffed. Otherwise, I'd love to return to the Thompson Dallas when the pandemic is fully behind us all, and enjoy the hotel when it's fully staffed. It's a beautiful property, and I'm sure when it's at 100%, it will be a 5 out of 5 hotel. For 100% transparency, I am not a professional reviewer and I don't get paid or receive any benefits/discounts for posting reviews. I am simply a frequent traveller, and like all my other reviews, provide this candid & unbiased review to help any other Yelpers.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful hotel. Great location and have amazing restaurants on site to take advantage of. This place is a "you get what you pay for" location and it is not cheap. We will definitely be returning.

Yelp
The hotel is incredible and very well kept. Here are my points: 1) the rooms are small; 2) the amenities are great!; 3) THE BIGGEST POINT, the front desk people have ZERO personality. I thought LA was bad. But, these people give them a run for their money. There is no friendliness at all. Both ladies with whom I dealt with were friendly. In fact, I felt like she looked up from her screen only to check me in and was so disingenuous. That being said, here are the positives: 1) great staff at the 9th floor bar; 2) Lucchese store in lobby; and 3) beautiful lobby.

Yelp
Do not valet here due to location takes 20-30 Min to wait for you car very frustrating

Yelp
We stayed here this weekend for a bachelorette trip. The 1 room we needed was booked ahead of time online, but somehow the desk staff managed to end up with 3 different rooms on our reservation. The room itself was fine, an average hotel room with some annoying features: there was no fridge besides the mini bar which was kind of a nuisance, the bathroom door does not lock and didn't really want to stay closed, and the "motion sensing lights" kept turning on randomly at night when everyone was in bed. Additionally, one side of the motorized blinds were broken, so we couldn't close them at all. We also kept hearing a lot of random, unidentified noises in our room, plus despite being 18 floors up we could very clearly hear everything happening on the street. The hotel's layout is very confusing, there is no signage anywhere to help you out and the hallways are very winding. However, it is in a great location that's convenient to a lot of things in Dallas. If I had been the one paying for this stay I would have been considerably more upset about all of these things, but since it was covered by someone else I would say it was fine. In this instance, you are NOT getting what you pay for in this hotel; save yourself the trouble and the money and stay at a holiday inn or a Marriott

Yelp
I keep traveling all over the USA and Canada for work so basically I live in hotels, and I must say the THOMPSON DALLAS was one of my best experiences in North America. It looks gorgeous, the furniture and decoration are impressively tasty. I work in the Interior Design industry so it is not that easy to impress me when it comes to furniture and decoration. The hotel and the rooms felt quite luxurious, the attention given to details is spot on. We enjoyed also the pool and the hot bath on the 9th floor. The service from the staff is also incredibly professional and friendly, they really made me feel I was the most important guest in the hotel. The restaurant was also great. I wish I stayed more than one night, but I'll definitely choose this hotel for my next visit in Dallas.

Yelp
Overall the hotel is fair at best. The hotel is fairly new and is very well decorated and appointed. The on-site restaurants and rooftop lounges are very nice. The rooms themselves are nicely decorated. The bathrooms are very spacious and the showers are hot and have a good pressure. However for this price point there are a few things that are important to note. One the valet service is horrible. The price quoted within the app is $39 but in fact the price is actually $49 plus tax. The service is extremely slow not sure if it's because the parking is far or if it's a staff issue. But be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes for your vehicle. It is recommended that you request a vehicle well in advance of your departure. Second we booked a regular king room and in the description it stated it had a desk and a chair in our room had neither. Once again at this price point even their basic room should have at least a chair and someplace to write with. Overall if you have business in the downtown area I would recommend this hotel, but if your trip to Dallas takes you other parts of the city there are far more higher quality hotels in the area of customer service, especially in the Uptown area of the city.

Yelp
Service was outstanding! From the second we walked in, to the minute we walked out! Top notch. Special shout out to Ivan at the front concierge desk! He was very kind and helpful! He gave us plenty of recommendations, offered an upgrade at a low cost, and even let us check in hours early. We stayed in a Premium King room, that offered plenty of room, definitely would recommend upgrading from the standard king room. I enjoyed the boutique specialty details in the decor- brought a lot of character to the room! Also the smell walking into the room is a rich leather smell! Loved that Plus gym & pool were amazing! We'll be back

Yelp
This place, omg! It's the perfect spot for a staycation!! I randomly booked this place after visiting Monarch on the 49th floor and I'm so glad I did. The overnight guys at the front desk were BEYOND helpful even when I was calling to ask random questions in the middle of the night. The views from the swimming pool are so beautiful, I can't wait to go back when it's open. I've gone back twice for a staycation, convincing myself that I needed it two weekends in a row because I can't get over how beautiful the rooms are, the views and the rainfall shower. Please go here, you will not regret it!

Yelp
Treat yourself to a staycation!!!! Or a snack and cocktails at Catbird! Or dine at Nine!! Brunch is yummy with a very eclectic menu. The pimento cheese is like nothing you've ever tasted. Jordan made both of our visits extra-special. You will feel transported to another time and a totally different place when you visit The Thompson. From the time you enter the grand lobby, stunning design will totally wow you! Sensory overload... you have to breathe and take it all in. Lots of history from a former life as a bank melded perfectly with comfy furnishings. Our 2 night, 3 day stay was lovely and restful, with the most comfy bed linens and pillows ever. Illy coffee /espresso machine was in our particular room. Full mini bar, lots of storage, rainhead shower with Bowmakers amenities that smell heavenly. Please add this to your must-do, to do, gotta go list!! The nice staff here will do their best to make your visit extra-special! Thank you, Todd Interests, for bringing this gem to Dallas!

Yelp
The hotel was wonderful, we loved our stay there. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Very welcoming. Only thing I'd say is the green space on the restaurant side of the rooftop needs some glass to prevent an accident or an on purpose jump off the roof. Other than being extremely cautious with our kids on the roof deck we loved our rooms, I would agree that locks on the bathroom doors would be helpful. The umbrella's in the closets are a wonderful idea though. The food court a block away was a delightful place to grab some lunch. I'd love to have a mini fridge instead of the mini bar though, we tried to use the mini bar as a fridge but It worked but was a tight squeeze. Also for such a large room you could have an electric tea kettle or a microwave. Thanks for a great stay.

Yelp
Revising my review. The Thompson Hotel management contacted me and apologized for their service failure. They took care of my incidental expenses and responded quickly. Great recovery and management,

Yelp
One of my friends and I did a staycation here and used the American Express fine hotels and resorts program. We did the spa and it was wonderful. I love how clean and modern it looked. They had these little oat snacks in the spa that were just so delicious and they gave us champagne....Always love champagne anywhere. The treatments were just great and the staff was friendly. They checked on you and were very accommodating. We also were able to enjoy the Jacuzzi on a cool evening and that was really nice. The rooms were beautiful and a great size. I loved all of the decorations and thought that seemed to go into the room. The room was clean. Also loved that they had water in the lobby and coffee in the lobby in the morning. We had breakfast at the restaurant I believe it's called the nine or some thing like that. The breakfast was very good and we had a view of the pool. I love the location of this hotel. We were close to walking to other restaurants and there was a Starbucks within a block at the hotel. The valet guys were great. I felt like this hotel had very good service. We originally were supposed to book the Joule but they had no spa treatments available. I am so glad we stayed here versus the Joule because we ate over at the CBD provisions and I thought the hotel looked older and dark. The Thompson looks and smells new still. I much prefer the lobby here plus the look of the Thompson to the look of that hotel. I'm not sure where the bad reviews have come in for this hotel. I think some of them may be related to Covid restrictions and times. I had a great time and experienced what I would expect from an AMEX fine hotels and resorts hotel. So in my opinion this is a wonderful hotel and I would definitely book it again.

Yelp
I am a Hyatt globalist and I have many pleasant stays in Hyatt over the years. This is simply the worst Hyatt hotel I've stayed in. I lost a designer t-shirt with the hotel. I filed it with ileftmystuff.com and never received any updates. Complaints: 1. I never received any update from Thompson Dallas 2. I called Thompson Dallas at least 3 times, each time they referred me to Security and nobody picked up - like wth. 3. I wanted to talk to the manager. The front desk apologized profusely and couldn't get a hold of the manager. She then got my contact and said the manager would call me back. He never did. 4. I called again and they said the designer clothing was not turned in. The fact Security never had a person who could pick up the phone speaks to their mismanagement.

Yelp
Incredibly disappointed with our recent stay and unsure how this property is on American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts, because they are far from it in every way. On day 1, we went to the pool bar to try and grab lunch...we sat there for 10+ minutes and were not greeted or helped, so we left. On night one, we were kept awake by the incredibly loud music from either the pool area or Catbird. The blackout shades in our room were broken. We put our light on and called for housekeeping, yet never received it. In need of towels, I called 2x on day one....never received them. Then had to call a 3rd time to finally get them to bring some towels. No backup toilet paper in the room, and an almost empty roll was left on. Visited Catbird on night one, which was a cool atmosphere and good drinks. Good service too. Decided to go back to the pool and give it another try. The service was slightly better in that we were acknowledged, however drinks took an extremely long time, food came out incorrectly, and the gratuity was included, which the staff should have mentioned upon closing out our check, but did not. Went to Nine at the National for breakfast on our final day, to hear that they had no running water, so no coffee. After hearing that and sitting there for 10 minutes with no greeting, we decided to cut our losses and just leave. How do you properly clean or wash hands with no running water in a restaurant, though? Following this, someone from housekeeping came for what I presume was to check and see if we were still in our room, but instead of waiting for us to answer, they knocked once and immediately walked in. Overall, incredibly disappointed with the terrible level of service experienced at this property.

Yelp
I'm really in love with this hotel. The staff is amazing and really made us feel welcome. I don't get out to Dallas much but this weekend at the Thompson was exactly what I needed. The beds are so comfy and the overall feel of the rooms is glamorous. Gorgeous property with an amazing restaurant on the 49th floor. Reservations fill up fast so book early! Kudos and thanks to Savanna at the front desk, to Daniel for running all over the place for me and finding my slippers and super kudos to Michael, the manager, that seems to have literally everything under control and making it look easy. Thank you to the team that helped rock our weekend! This place is worth every penny.

Yelp
No complaints. Great service. Jacuzzi was awesome at night in the cold weather. I'd come back to stay again. Through American Express Platinum, you also get a $125 credit to the room for breakfast and in-room dining.

Yelp
A very nice hotel in downtown Dallas. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. They have a great pool on the 9th floor. The bartender there made the best drinks I've ever had at a pool bar before. Lots of on site dining options as well. The bathroom in our room was one of the nicest I've seen at a hotel. My only complaint would be the area around the hotel didn't seem to be as nice as the hotel itself.

Amanda D.

Yelp
STAFF STEALS! Do not be fooled by the flashy facade. Don't stay here! Security and management doesn't care about you or the fact that their staff steals. I've waited 3 weeks for a resolution to my claim and no one has followed up or offered anything to replace my stolen items. $500 worth of items were in my bag that was stolen from the bathroom counter in the room I was staying in. I reported it as soon as I noticed and was told I had to file my report on some website Ilostmystuff.com and the security team would get back to me. No urgency what so ever! Since then no one has contacted me. I've been doing all of the contacting and have spoken with 3 security " managers" Oliva, Jeremiah and Victor and not one of them have been able to tell me where or what happened to my bag. It's absurd that a hotel as nice as this would condone stealing behavior and when brought to their attention do absolutely nothing about it. I will be pressing this further and filing a police report next.
