Thorn Street Brewery Taps Tasting Room in Mission Hills - Eater San Diego

"The community of Mission Hills will get its first craft beer tasting room thanks to Thorn Street Brewery, which debuted its original brewery in North Park in 2012 and significantly expanded in 2017 with Thorn Brewing Co., a large-scale production facility and tasting room in Barrio Logan. Thorn Brewing is replacing a stamp shop in the Hawk Nest, a long-established building on Hawk Street that sits right next to The Fort, the new mixed-use development where Fort Oak opened last week." - Candice Woo

Good service, lots of space to hang out and play games or watch sports. Beer is ALL good! They currently have a cookie pairing available, beers matched with Girl Scout cookies 😊 Fun way to try more beers and eat cookies! Otherwise, hit up the food truck outside for tasty grub!

Google
Went here for a Girl Scout cookies and beer tasting. . . It was amazing. This is just a nice community bar, the beer is good and the people are awesome. If you want a nice spot to chill and kick back this is it. Plus they normally have a food truck outside and it is dog friendly. You are allowed to bring food in too. So the food truck, the bbq spot and the pizza place are all fair game.

We had a delightful time this afternoon at Thorn Street brewery. In South Park San Diego. I had a flight of the hazy, relay, Hoppy IPA and the Porter. He had a pint of lager. They require that you purchase a five dollar food truck coupon for each person. Which I understand because of COVID-19. I was pleasantly surprised by the IPAs. They were very smooth and drinkable, yet interestingly as the time went on and the beer got warmer, the IPA became more hoppy. I love their outdoor space and what they’ve done with the place since the last time I was there two years ago. The bartender was attentive, helpful and sanitized the tables before we sat down. I will be reviewing the noodle food truck in another review. The food was great.

Google
This is such a great neighborhood brewery. Great beer, friendly employees and patrons. Dog friendly! Pretty much always have a food truck on site, too.

Google
I love Thorn, I've always loved Thorn. It's a great location, close to my house. The staff is awesome, the food trucks outside have always been amazing, the beer is awesome. Nothing to not like and one ofy favorites in SD. Tacos courtesy of Atesano Tacos (also amazing)!

Google
We loved Thorn Brewery great service great beer Atmosphere is fun nothing but laughs and fun Location is in the middle of a neighborhood different from most Breweries. Place is bigger then what it seems from the sidewalk. The raccoon story is great 😆 check out our video on YouTube look up The Beer Ambassadors. Also you can rent a growler that's crazy!!!

Google
This bar is not recommended. It’s completely unsuitable if you have children, as they are absolutely not welcome here—at least not unless they sit perfectly still and silent in a corner. The bartender even threatened to kick us out if our friends’ daughter made another loud noise. So, if you’re planning to meet up with friends and kids, it’s better to avoid this place—unless you enjoy being thrown out.

Jo Aysian

Google
The bar tender was super helpful about describing and recommending what's on the menu that would satisfy my palette. The place welcomes dogs, so open and great place to hang out. Parking may be a little challenging, gotta park along the streets but you can find one, just time it right. There's a food truck outside that will complement what's on tap if you have craving for food

Yelp
Cute little brewery tucked in a neighborhood. Easy to miss but awesome once you enter. They only sell their own beer or different variety. All the beers I tried were great and the customer service was awesome. Looks small from outside but they have a huge back room
google avatar

Cristina B.

Yelp
Celebrated a baby shower for family here and it ended up exceeding my expectations! Parking is street only, so make sure to pay attention to all the signs. The whole upstairs was closed off for the baby shower and there was ample room for all the guests. Barrel style tables and high chairs fill the upper room and there was a TV that we displayed the games on. The taps are downstairs with a great selection. The bartender was very friendly and made awesome recommendations. Only giving 4 stars because the stairwell smelt like pee, but outside of that, everything was enjoyable.

Yelp
First time here. Decided to join family to play trivia. It was funny we had a chance for a come back and win but my hubby changed the answer last minute!!! lol Had a great time.

Yelp
Knocked out another San Diego brewery, this time it is Thorn Brewing Company! This brewery has several locations in the San Diego area but this location is what we focused on. For this brewery Steve and I tried one of their beers and we enjoyed it fairly well. The beer that we had was the Endless Cycle IPA from a beer series of theirs called the Essential IPA Series. This particular IPA was enjoyable and refreshing to be sure. Similar to other IPA'S we have had of many breweries past but nothing to complain about in the slightest. Flavor highlights to expect with this is hoppiness and bitterness as well as a resinous presence to provide a more organic spin to this particular beer experience that we had with this particular beer.

Yelp
What a great little brewery...that's not so little! LOL! I have driven by many times and just thought they had that small storefront. I've even gotten noodles from the truck in front, and still thought it was small. But then colleagues invited me out and I couldn't believe how big the back is! They are also dog friendly which I'll have to bring Cako to. I'm not a big beer drinker but they had some hard seltzers which worked since I'd had vodka earlier. The staff is great! They close at 9 but allowed us to stay until we were finished while they cleaned. Definitely worth checking out. The corner of 32nd and Thorn has become a small little haven!

Yelp
Stopped in this weekend for their Girl Scout cookie pairing. The Girl Scout cookies were so perfectly paired with their beers. They really complimented each other and it was a fun little weekend activity! I'm a big fan of Thorn St Brewery. I've more frequently visited the Mission Hills location but love this little OG one too. There's space inside for about 8ish groups with tables and some bar seats. On a usually nice San Diego day, they also have a large area to sit outside. Grand Ole next door is also bomb so it's great to park beer with some bbq. If not, they also often have food trucks. They had a vegan Asian one there and the people next to us were raving about the fries.

Yelp
I recently visited this brewery for trivia night, and it was a fantastic experience. The diverse beer selection was impressive, and I particularly enjoyed the Fornication, a delightful Belgian strong golden ale. The bartenders were friendly, providing clear instructions for trivia and guiding us on ordering from the food truck outside. Overall, a great spot for a fun night playing trivia. I think the spot would be more laid back on a non trivia night, but they have other events, I saw such as bingo nights.

Yelp
Great place to watch sports. Great beer, friendly staff and atmosphere. They are so nice to allow outside food in but have amazing food trucks that rotate days in evenings. Great neighborhood spot!

G V.

Yelp
Decided to stop by yesterday after a late lunch at the BBQ spot next door. Friend and I were excited to try a new brewery but were instead met by an unpleasant female beertender. She did great at one thing though...killing the mood.
google avatar

Jack G.

Yelp
Excellent Brewery! Great beers (my favorite was the hazy IPA). Friendly and efficient service. Ample outdoor seating. Dog friendly. They have food trucks outside the brewery (we had lumpia sliders from the Skrtch Kitchen food truck - yum). Great way to enjoy great beer. So much fun!

Gareth P.

Yelp
Recommend! Lovely beer, especially their IPA. Large back part to building which is good for groups. Friendly staff.
google avatar

Yelp
Thorn St is one of my favorite breweries! Everything about it is so perfect. Their beers are amazing, I love the branding plus the space is really big! They host a ton of fun events and typically always have a food truck outside. We attended their trivia night on Wednesday and the place got popping. For a table I would recommend getting their early (trivia started at 7!) The place is dog friendly too so it adds to the charm!
google avatar

Yelp
Really enjoy this location. Been going for years and think it took a year or so to figure out there was a back room ‍ They seem to always have a pretty good selection of food trucks, but now with Grand Ol opened back up that decision should be pretty easy. Probably about 5 yrs ago I lost my wallet here and within a day someone working contacted me through Facebook messenger and told me where it was held/who had it. Went above and beyond to get it back to me and for that reason I will always come here and tip well. Thanks again!

Yelp
With all the breweries in san diego it's hard to stay competitive and in the game. This one seems to not care to be in the game. Large space in the back around the bar and small neighborhood feel, but hard to find a good tasting beer and behind the bar was an reasonably rude beertender.
google avatar

Tina C.

Yelp
Tried the coconut porter and was very impressed! They have a ton of diff beers. Dog friendly, patio seating, very large inside seating areas. Have a few shirts to purchase but did not have many sizes. Customer service was great! Will def come back again!

Kevin A.

Yelp
Great beer selection, lots of room to sit or stand, friendly folks. I don't live anywhere near it, but if I did it would be a regular hangout.
google avatar

Rick H.

Yelp
Wonderful local bar with an amazing selection of beer, and while it's very family/dog friendly, it's accessible to all. The beer tenders are all very knowledgable, and go out of their way to match you up to a beer that you will enjoy.
google avatar

Soumava C.

Yelp
This spot has a concise but FANTASTIC selection of beers in fact, my better half isn't the biggest fan of beers save for some sours and ciders. That said, she enjoyed a few of the selections I had ordered and that alone made the experience awesome. And their music theme is incredibly dope!
google avatar

Kerri T.

Yelp
Outdoor seating bonus, dog friendly, clean indoor space w a few spots to sit at (high tops) indoors and keep an eye out for food trucks in front. ALways a bonus when there is food available to munch on with your beers. Beer only, no wine. Cool tshirts w logos. Plenty of bike parking which I think is always a bonus! BIKE on! Maybe a discount to us bike riders out there after all your logo is a raccoon on a bicycle!
google avatar

Yelp
Always a favorite of mine in North Park! They have the big patio space in the back- it's kinda hidden but plenty of seatings there. You can go to Grand Ole Asado and grab some bbq sandwiches and bring them over. The beers are quite delicious. Many to choose from!

Fabiana T.

Yelp
Well, I don't know about you, but I think that customer service is everything in any business, especially when it comes to a brewery. Nobody wants to go out for a drink and leave feeling like they've been hit by a ton of bricks. You want to find a place with great service, a fantastic atmosphere, and of course, delicious beer. But, if you go to a place and the person serving you can't even manage a simple hello or thank you, and hands you your drink with a face like a slapped arse, you're not going to feel good about being there. And that's exactly what happened to us. We ordered a beer and were met with such a poor reception that my beer-loving husband wanted to leave for another bar before we'd even finished. Look, if you don't like working with people, then find another job! Working with people means smiling and being friendly to whoever you have to serve, it's that simple! So, if you're looking for a good time with good beer and great service, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. Cheers to finding a better brewery!

Yelp
We had a gift card for Thorn so we ventured out to this neighborhood brewery. It was a Friday night and it was packed with some folks that were celebrating pretty hardy. It is loud and full of happy folks with their dogs. There aren't alot of tables, but we snagged one and also brought the dog. It is truly a neighborhood pub. The beer was great. There are many IPA's to choose from. We brought home a growler too and also bought a shirt. Servers were nice considering how busy they were. They made a point of taking care of us. It was a fun visit.
google avatar

Danielle B.

Yelp
One of my favorite breweries in San Diego. We have so many to pick from but this is definitely the place to be. Their branding is super cute and their beers are unique and tasty!
google avatar

Gordon V.

Yelp
This place just keeps getting better! Great beer, great service, fun inviting tasting room and back room. Tasting area in front with display of current craft brews available. Try one or get a flight and experience the varieties. Very outgoing employees. The back room is large and fit for entertaining. with another convenient tasting bar. Come on in annoy a taste of San Diego.

Yelp
I have been going to thorn for a long time pre pandemic. Met great people over that time including the bar tenders. Keep up the good work!

Magda T.

Yelp
Unless you are a local they really don't like you. Was actually somewhat of a regular pre CoVid but always felt they were a little standoffish. Tonight confirmed that they are pretty uppity. Served 2 individuals before closing then decided not to serve us after we ordered food and right there. On top of all that, went to wait for food at one of the tables and missed the curb and fell. Twisted ankle and scrapped my knee. If you close your taps at 8:30 don't say you are open till 9. And don't open your tap for someone else if you won't serve everyone at 8:54. Sort of sucks cause I actually dig their beer. At least food truck guys, Sushi Uno, we're cool and food is tasty!
google avatar

Erin K.

Yelp
This is the smaller location of Thorn St brewing; they also have a restaurant in Barrio Logan. I normally come here once in awhile to get my taxes did or if I'm in the area. The staff has never been great, they are usually talking to each other or regulars who are in their every day with their dogs that lay across the floor and make it hard to move around. It's hard to get the staff's attention sometimes and the customer service is usually non existent as in I feel like I'm bothering them to get a drink. There's better places to spend your money and the beer is just ok, not my favorite.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome chill pub kind of vibe. Not super loud / party kind of deal. Friendly patient bartenders who will let you taste a few (please no more than 1-2 if people are in line behind you, I'm looking at you Tim)... Hopster Pot is a nice drinkable IPA, Couch Bound is a legit Double IPA, hoppy, piney and citrusy, very delish. You have to order food during COVID times, and they have a food truck, and have to pay for a $5 food voucher per person. LEAVE YOUR TAB OPEN if you're planning on ordering more beer later, cause they have to make you buy a food voucher every time they run your card. Great beers - TONS of nice variety, from their Mexican Lager, to Pub Ale, Sours, IPAs, IIPAs, Pale Ales, Ambers, Stouts... Great place..not just all IPAs like a lot of places in SD. Something for everyone!!!
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Little brewery/brew pub in residential area of North Park. I only tried one beer so not an extensive review, but the hazy IPA I tried - Shades of Haze - was great! Nice friendly service, and that home town, neighborhoody feel!
google avatar

Nat A.

Yelp
What a great experience. I love thorn as a local north park renter but I got to enjoy my first pairing last night as part of Thorn's SD beer week events kick off. Venissimo cheese shop (inside NP's Bottle Craft) and Thorn St beer?! How could you get any better. The host and hostess from each establishment were extremely knowledgeable and the overall experience was highly enjoyable. Delicious cheese, amazing beer for $40?! Heck yes! (7 pairings total -- 7 x 8oz beer with large portions of cheese, nuts, bread, dried fruits)
google avatar

Rosanna T.

Yelp
Reviewing a brewery :) this is my first time. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. The bartender was vey friendly! I tried an IPA (I always think that I would like IPA but I finish it off with regret ) . Don't get me wrong, it was good but not my fav. I used the 25 cent checkin bonus and got a pale ale that was more suited to my taste. I think the only REAL complaint that I had was that he food truck opened half an hour later and I felt that there weren't as many options. On the plus side, they had cans of beer like sour beer or kombucha which was cool
google avatar

Temenah C.

Yelp
This is a cool place to visit. You can tell it's a neighborhood brewery because everyone seemed to know each other and the bartender. Normally, this would be annoying but the bartender was still cool with us newbs. We shared a flight and I remember the beers being ok. My favorite was the Barrio, which is a lager and should be one of the only beers you drink this summer. Ok?! It's not a very large place, but there are actual tables if you want to bring in food or go grab some BBQ next door. Very cool place.
google avatar

brittney s.

Yelp
Coconut porter is AMAZING. Wow .. I would have one everyday if I could. Also had great service.
google avatar

Arnel D.

Yelp
Stopped by here on the way out from the bbq spot. Pretty chill brewery with reasonable prices. The people here seem to be all locals who end up walking to and from. If you check in you get a great deal for their sample sizes. Parking is all over as well as a few bike spots. They are also pet friendly. I'll probably be back again when I visit the bbq place.
google avatar

Julian P.

Yelp
I really want to like this place but the staff makes it very hard. The atmosphere here is really nice, you're allowed to bring in local food, and they offer cool party games you can play. However everytime I come here (2-4 times total), I always get really weird service from the same lanky bartender with the comb over. It's like a combination of him being rude and or tweaky. I also asked about the beers they have, since I used to only drink their cucumber sour (Very good), and the guy gave me the most half assed seemingly annoyed response after questioning my friend and I about buying beers for others. I don't know how he even jumped to that conclusion when two of us are standing there with our IDs out. Stuff like this blows when you also work industry and expect a local spot to be more informative and welcoming to their guest. My restaurant has multiple thorn beers on tap that I don't want to support because of this guys service alone. The cherry on top is that the beers are never cold! They always feel around room temp.
google avatar

Erin B.

Yelp
Great little neighborhood brewery. Smells a little like musty socks...but in a good way. Dog and kid friendly. Food truck outside to ease the beer munchies. Great selection of beers. I got the oconners oatmeal stout. On Wednesday nights they have trivia.
google avatar

Nando D.

Yelp
We picked this place cuz it was a friends gathering and we all love beers cheers lol It's also pup friendly! That really is a plus. Place is not big but big enough to fit a nice crowd. Let's get to what matters the most, the BEER! I and my group really enjoyed the different flavors of beer. This place knows well about beer and the flavors are great. I started off with the Reley west coast IPA! tasty!!! By the beer that really got me excited was the foreplay! Love the name and loved the beer, it's not too strong nor too light, it's right there where I love it. 6.0% not bad at all plus the flavor is great. All in all such a good time, we went there on a Friday and it was busy and awesome, the bartender was friendly and helpful with the menu and all. That was my first time in there but I'm sure I'll go back to it some other time. Great beer Cheers Thorn St brewery
google avatar

Nate M.

Yelp
Great beers and a relaxed vibe. Beer me... The few times I've come here the staff is always super friendly and very knowledgeable about the beer selections. There's no food served here, but you can have food delivered from anyone of the nearby food spots. I'd go with the BBQ spot on the corner, Grand Ol BBQ Y Asado. There are two places to sit inside of Thorn Street brewing, the main front bar area and a second one upstairs near the back. There's also a bar up here, but the beer selection can be minimal. The beers, finally! - Here are my favs from my last trip: - Chewbocka Doppelbocka: Which is rich and filled with chocolate and coffee roast flavors. - Got Nelson?: A standard, but delicious single IPA. - Cocomotive: A malty beer w/ coconut thats oven-roasted and steeped in beer. Ridic! I'd stay away from the Barrio Lager and the Hipster's Wit. The Barrio brew tasted like a bootleg version of Corona and the Hiptser's Wit just didn't do it for me. The tap list rotates here pretty often so get here soon and sample those seasonal brews!

Yelp
This place rocked , all power was out and they were still serving drinks . All though they could not do dishes they had clear solo cups as the only option, I was all aboard. Drinks still cold fridge had not been opened since power outage , but it was still busy . I have lived in north park since I was born but have never gone to north park brewery... sad yes but I am do-diligent, will try every brewery I can !! Parking is not the best - nothing private but it's not down town so not too bad . I am in full support of local brewery's and local eats, as should you - so give it a try, I personally loved it ! I believe that had more IPA's than anything which I'm not the hugest fan but I still found my way into some great beers . By the way drink some beers and then go next door and have some great BBQ, you won't regret it !!

Yelp
I really like this laid back neighborhood brewery. It provides that home style feel with that terrific backyard patio, and to top it off, they make some great craft beers. Oh yes, and they let you bring in food, like the full slab of smoked pork ribs I gobbled down from a place nearby with one of their fine beers. The beer I tried was the Hipster Wit, which was very light, crispy, and refreshing to drink. I have to admit, it went very well with the heavy flavored and smoked ribs I was eating. The beer, a Belgian strain, had a good citrus flavor and crisp finish. I thought I detected a slight peppery flavor. The color was unique, in that it was light but and kinda foggy. It sort of looked like grapefruit juice. In the end, I liked it very much and I am not even a Hipster! The bar keeps were a very nice bunch. The young lady who tapped by beer had a great sense of humor and made sure to fill my beer to the rim. I don't mind gently slurping my beer off the rim before taking it off the bar! Great place and when I retire, I can see myself hanging out at a place like this and becoming a permanent feature.

Yelp
Dog friendly is a huge plus for this brewery. I gave them five stars alone for the dog friendly place. I did not bring my dog for my first visit here, but there were a nice amount of cute and friendly dogs laying around with their owners. And because breweries encourage socializing, all the owners were not shy about letting one pet and hug their dog(s). Do not be fooled by the front facade of this brewer because there is plenty of room in the back with separate bar space and even a dart board. This brewery is located on the quieter side of North Park so street parking is relatively easy. The people who work here a friendly. And not the fake friendly, but the casual friendly so that is what made my first experience here well. We went there on a Saturday night and there was only one food truck outside the brewery. Unfortunate that there is no food on site other than salsa and chips. It is allowed to bring in pizza from the nearby pizza place but Yelp reviews shows that the pizza place is not recommended so we chose the food truck instead. I do not drink beer unlike all of my friends so thankfully Thorn St brewery offers kombucha. I enjoyed how the kombucha was not too sweet not too carbonated. Upon looking at the extensive offerings, Thorn St also offers low gluten beers for those like me who cannot handle gluten so well. The music is just the right level to encourage talking or provide nice background noise to our laughs.

Yelp
Like most people on a San Diego beer tour, my girlfriend and I have been meaning to come to Thorn St Brewery, especially ever since we heard about their coconut porter. We're also familiar with their beer from beer festivals and other restaurants, so it's nice to finally visit their brewery! Thorn's got everything I love about a local microbrewery: dog friendly, cool looking merch, various great tasting beers, decorative tap menu, helpful and friendly bartenders, and that overall noisy bar ambiance. I'm really digging all the halloween stuff they have up too. It's a great place for groups to grab a drink and socialize, although it might be hard to find a place to sit at first. Apparently there's a second floor too (as i'm reading other reviews lol) but we never checked it out on our visit. My girlfriend and I got tasters of the Cocomotive Porter (highly recommend! It's everything we hoped it would be lol), the Radio Gold ale, the Solstice baby ipa, and then the Farmers Only saison with blackberries (also recommend). There were a ton of others I wanted to try but our visit was just a quick stop to kill some time, so we'll most likely be back again! Don't forget to check-in to get a $0.25 taster!
google avatar

Abigail V.

Yelp
Get the Cocomotive coconut porter!!! My fave of all the ones I tried. We got 4 tasters -- cocomotive, radio gold (golden ale), solstice (session baby ipa), and farmers only (saison). Don't forget to use their Yelp check-in offer to get a 5oz taster for just 25 cents!!! It's a pretty small space on the first floor, not a lot of tables. There's room for about 10 or so at the bar and then there's only like 4 tables. Other than that it's only standing room left. They had a lot of Halloween decorations inside so I thought that was really fun. Dog friendly!! And they have a food truck parked right outside. They have a lil calendar behind the bar with upcoming events like trivia night and bingo. Been rapidly going through the local breweries and I'm glad I was able to check this one off the list. Another San Diego brewery down, a bajillion more to go!

Yelp
Love Thorn Brewery! Have been to this location three times, never disappoints. Very good selection of beers, and their menu changes frequently which is nice. Their upstairs area is big and holds a good amount of people. They have numerous tables and chairs, which is nice. The bathrooms are clean which is appreciated. I've sat in the upstairs area twice and both times the bar area was closed.

Yvonne S.

Yelp
Had a party there it was a nice place but the next party started while we were just ending our party. The lady for the next party was super rude ! They need to give each party a half hour in between!
google avatar

Becca R.

Yelp
You'd think that a spot with good beer, a taco truck, and a sick tasting room would be more accepting to business. Tonight a group of friends and I came by for a surprise birthday party that was planned 3 weeks in advance. We waited patiently in the tasting room while half of our party went downstairs for drinks. When our friend finally showed up for his party, we all went downstairs to celebrate. As the birthday boy showed his ID, he was denied service and was told to leave by the staff behind the bar. In their words, "you can't hang out here." The ID that was presented was a valid Mexican ID, and according to the bartender, it is against California Law to accept Mexican IDs, which is understandable. However, I, and other members of our party, failed to understand why he was not welcome at this establishment, leaving us to the conclusion that the staff at Thorn Brewery is discriminatory. I hope that at anyone else's discretion, they have better sense than to come to Thorn Brewery Co. or Thorn Brewing Co.- Barrio Logan. You'll find much better brews at much less hostile places.

Yelp
Thorn St. are one of the more vocal breweries concerning independent brewing and local beer. That alone should give you an insight about how much they care about the craft and their customers. You can watch their regular videos on their Facebook page, which make for great entertainment and serve as an update on the San Diego beer scene. The venue itself is a dimly lit and multi story building. It's narrow, but tall, and has a room for all. Whether you prefer sitting at the bar on the first floor or sitting out in the patio in the top floor, I'm sure you'll find something comfortable to suit you. Their beers are all solid. From someone who doesn't really like dark beers, I'm a big fan of their coconut porter. They have a great selection of different styled beers including some spicy ones. The last time I was there, Jarred was pouring. If you're indecisive or just don't know quite what you like yet, ask away. He's a solid guy who really pays attention to both the customers and the beer. Now onto the important part. The toilets are solid. I'd never recommend you do the two at any public venue, but I'm sure you could pull it off here. There are several toilets and urinals to appease to all. They're all private rooms so you don't have to worry about locking eyes with someone looking through the door cracks. That brings up another point. The doors were either confusing to close or I was too many coconut porters in. In conclusion, very solid beer lovers place. Great little spot to bring your mom or a tinder date.

Yelp
Stopped by for the first time for a STEM Week event and was utterly charmed by this brewery! It's like a rustic/comfy joint to casually grab a drink. They have solid options with rotations, and the amount of drinks they have on tap isn't overwhelming. I really appreciated that they had non-alcoholic kombucha on tap (it was strawberry mint and it was really good; not too carbonated, perfectly balanced flavor). They also offer chips and salsa (green vs. red) for food. There was only one bartender manning the place when I stopped by, and he was so calm, collected and efficient. It seems like a small venue at first, but there's a door that leads upstairs to even more space. Thorn St. Brewery's truly a gem in an adorable little neighborhood that's worth stopping by if you're around the area. Don't forget to check in for that great deal, too!

Yelp
Neat little neighborhood tasting room worth checking out, noting their little front room when compared to nearby spots like Hess or Modern Times, but there is an available tasting room & patio with limited hours. It's uniquely cozy near the front bar, like there should be a hearth fireplace to warm up weary travelers on a winter night, sharing stories over flagons of ale. Good variety of beers to try, ranging from hefeweizen to stout, with 3 or 4 IPA varieties to please hopheads. The price for tasters has creeped up a little since opening and a flight deal wasn't available. You can choose up to 8 4oz tasters, priced a la carte. There is a rotating appearance of food trucks, so keep an eye out for mobile snacks. Sushi Uno was parked out front (review posted separately). Street parking wasn't an issue on a weeknight for us, so we were able to parallel and walk one block. I suppose the bathrooms are pretty interesting too since they're not your standard tidy whitey porcelain and tile setup. Thumbs up to Thorn St Brewing. There is good beer and other good stuff going on in the neighborhood.
