"Thornton’s is an unpretentious breakfast, lunch, and brunch spot in an increasingly pretentious neighborhood. The menu is massive (and affordable) and can accommodate almost any diet. There are nearly countless egg dishes, as well as sandwiches and wraps, salads, pasta, and lots more." - Nathan Tavares

Food was excellent. Only small issue was the size of the chicken in the chicken sandwich, as well as the size of the bowl with the chili. Definitely could be bigger given the price. Other than that, the taste of the food, the overall atmosphere, and the service were great. Looking forward to my next visit.

Google
Exactly what we were looking for! Casual diner with expected and unique dishes for my breakfast and friend's lunch. Good/not bitter coffee. Greenery Eggs Benedict was as unexpected as it was delicious. Not fancy, just great ingredients. Floor to ceiling open doors let us enjoy the breeze.

Google
AMAZING mediterranean food. Honestly, mediterranean prices too. As a greek myself I really appreciated the authenticity of the breakfast platter. Asked later, place is owned by a Turkish guy. Willing to put our differences aside and come back to enjoy another delicious brunch fs.

Google
Visited for breakfast. Large selection on the menu. Everyone was friendly. Food tastes great and prices were reasonable. Highly recommend!

Google
This restaurant really exceeded my expectations. In this part of Boston, this restaurant is a hidden gem. My gyro was excellent, especially considering the cost, and the lemonade that came with it was very delectable and refreshing. This restaurant's food is unmatched for the price. The atmosphere is also very nostalgic to me, and I very much enjoy the open-air aesthetic, which gives lots of natural light. Every employee in this place was extremely humble and kind. I will definitely be recommending this amazing destination to all of my friends.

Google
I loved this restaurant! It's such a quaint place. Not much seating but that didn't have no barring on the food! This is a must try! All was very tasty!

Google
Had a busy day ahead of me and a big breakfast was required. I ordered the Morning Delight. When it came, I thought there was no way I could eat it all. But it was so good, I just took my time and left a *somewhat* clean plate. The staff was attentive and friendly. I was a tourist, on my own; it was the first day of my first ever trip to Boston. They made me feel at home, I think that says it all.

Google
It's definitely a huge shout out to the waiter. Very attentive, helpful, and friendly. The food was also good. I had a cappuccino, scrambled eggs with spinach and feta, homefries in the side, and would come with toast, I ordered it without. Very tasty and filling.

Laura G.

Yelp
We were craving breakfast food and this was the spot we chose which was perfect bc it was close to the hotel. Everyone ordered their basic 2 egg breakfast, I ordered their Mediterranean Menemen/Shaksuka which was delicious. 1 less star bc the home fries were a bit too soggy for our taste. Both the lady who sat us and the gentleman who took our order were very very kind. I would definitely recommend.

Caroline S.

Yelp
Very homey cooking style - nothing amazing. I ordered the Irish Benedict and it was satisfying but I wouldn't say it was $16 worth. Their eggs and corned beef hash were cooked well but their hollandaise sauce and potatoes were just okay. Overall a bit bland. At it's price point and quality compared to other options in Boston, I wouldn't say it's the best option for brunch.

Michelle K.

Yelp
3.5 stars. Well loved, homey little diner. Plenty of seating available inside, with a bunch of seating available outside, but very close to the sidewalk. This place was super busy, but we were seated immediately on Sunday morning before 10am. Our server was extremely friendly and I overheard him explaining options and recommendations to the table next to us. My husband and I knew everything we wanted and were warned it would be about a 15-20 minute wait for the food. It came out faster than expected. I got the Oscar Eggs Benedict, which is crab cake. It was very good! My husband got the Amaretto Vanilla French toast, but without the sliced almonds on top. He said it had a very light vanilla flavor, but almost no almond flavor. He said it was good though. Overall, this was an inexpensive breakfast spot with solid options for everyone!

Yelp
I haven't been to Thornton's in a while. Glad to see some of same amazing staff. New menu missing my fav (scrambled with feta) but sporting a new middle eastern theme that seems to be popular right now. I ordered a custom omelet that was generously filled with the four selections I made and well cooked. Meal price was reasonable and well in line with other popular neighborhood restaurants. If you are looking for a good meal near the Prudential, Thorton's is a reliable, tasty, and reasonably priced neighborhood favorite that consistently lives up to its reputation.

Yelp
The food is excellent. I ate here every day during my visit to Boston. Susana gives service with a smile and has a great laugh. I appreciate her understanding that I have some food sensitivities and reviewing items that came with various salads and sandwiches. Very knowledgeable of each dish! On my last day, I came by for breakfast on my way to the airport, assured it would be no trouble to put my luggage in the corner. I was greeted with Susana's friendly smile. Seating indoor and outdoor with flexible windows and doors to enjoy the view and pleasant breeze. Very clean and comfortable. Wait staff all very pleasant and professional. I could not recommend this place enough. If you don't try it, you're missing out on a real gem.

Yelp
This was a good breakfast place for a solo dining experience. I was looking for a affordable breakfast at a sit down restaurant within walking distance to Northeastern University and this fit the bill. I was there early so there were not many people in the restaurant and I was seated right away. It was my waitress' first day and she was being trained! Both of the service members were so nice and she did a great job for it being her first day. Very attentive and made sure my coffee and water was filled :) The coffee was your standard diner coffee, nothing special! I had the side fruit plate and dang this was a lot of fruit!! You definitely get your moneys worth and i was really craving fresh fruit so I was super happy with this combination. I then had the breakfast burger which is a sausage patty with cheddar cheese and an egg on an english muffin. I actually really enjoyed this considering I'm usually not a big fan of English muffins but it was good and hot, temperature wise. I thought the potatoes were the stand out of the dish and they were seasoned so well. I wish there was a larger portion on the plate! Overall this was a good choice for a quick breakfast and I didn't feel uncomfortable dining here alone. It was good for the price.

Ronny T.

Yelp
Came here again for breakfast for the third time, got the same thing again, same experience pretty much but I think the food came out quicker which was a plus. Hence, add one star.

Della S.

Yelp
I'd been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got the chance to! The food was just okay though. I got the menemen ($14.95) with rye bread. The dish was prepared with scrambled eggs. The eggs were a little bit overdone for my liking (I think the dish could be really good if the eggs are slightly runny so that they are creamier). The tomato part itself could have used more seasoning. On the side, the dish also came with homefries/potatoes which were very soft and also a little underseasoned. Overall, the dish was pretty filling but left a lot to be desired. The server asked if I wanted to add cheese on my menemen and I said no, but my friend decided to get theirs with cheese. I only found out later when we got the check that adding cheese added almost $2 more to the dish. While I wasn't surprised that adding cheese would add an extra cost, I was a little annoyed that the server didn't disclose the added cost when they initially asked and instead just added it to the bill.

Cole T.

Yelp
I don't like to leave bad reviews. The service was kind and the ambiance was fine. The pancakes were good and the oatmeal was clearly homemade. Unfortunately my breakfast potato's were cold and undercooked. The Menemen was a fun twist on the traditional Shaksuka, but some of it was watery and the green peppers and onions mixed in were basically raw. The worst part was washing up at the end of the meal, the bathroom had no water! Our waitress did not mention this and when we walked out with soap on our hands she said the water company was doing maintenance and would be back on in a few hours. I would have rated it 3 stars but the water incident was hard to get past. Just a bad experience.

Salma S.

Yelp
I really love Thornton's for breakfast. Breakfast is available 7 days a week, which is amazing - and there are so many delicious options to choose from! I really enjoyed their eggs Florentine. The prices are reasonable too. I definitely recommend Thornton's for a nice breakfast or brunch - everyone will definitely find something they like. The portions are huge, service is great, and food is amazing!

Dimchik T.

Yelp
Great service, good food, super friendly, quick, professional, good vibe, strongly recommend!!

Kim L.

Yelp
3.5/5 - Thornton's is a pretty cute place. It gives off cozy diner vibes in the middle of a city. The wait staff here are really friendly and the service is very quick, something that I was pretty impressed by. For food, we got the shakshuka ($13) and Italian benedict ($14). The shakshuka was okay. For $13, I kind of expected more than just scrambled eggs in a cast iron. I should note that all of the shakshukas I've had before all were a tomato base with poached eggs. Nothing wrong with the scrambled choice as this was clearly indicated on the menu and a stylistic choice of the restaurant/chef... BUT this wasn't really a true shakshuka, and it's basically as it tastes: tomatoey scrambled eggs. The "caramelized" onions in this dish also aren't caramelized, which was kind of disappointing. Just strings of onions randomly distributed throughout. It wasn't bad by any means, but probably somewhere on the spectrum of just okay. Then considering the price for this dish, this is something I'd probably skip on next time. The Italian benedict on the other hand was good. The cheesy pesto sauce really complimented the prosciutto well, and I'm a sucker for focaccia. Eggs were poached well with a nice run. No complaints there. I'd actually get it again and maybe stick to this side of the menu for breakfast. Similar to other reviews, the home fries tend to be rather on the oily/soggy end and slightly under-seasoned, so it's probably best to mention wanting to have them well done if that's your cup of tea. All in all, I would come back for the experience/wait staff as they were very nice and helped make the experience enjoyable. Otherwise, I might give this place a pass in terms of food since it was just okay and I expected a little more for the price.

Govi L.

Yelp
Service was very friendly. They made us feel very welcomed. Food was pretty standard not bad but not amazing. Overall a good experience would only come back for service.

Kelly L.

Yelp
a solid breakfast place! you really can't go wrong here. there's a wide variety of options on the menu and our server was really friendly. I got the classic eggs benedict and an order of nutella and banana crepes. so flavorful, so filling.

Ivy T.

Yelp
Loved coming to Thornton's and would come again! I came for lunch with a friend, and the atmosphere is so relaxed and welcoming, like a homey diner. The waitress complimented my leather jacket and was very casual and nice throughout the meal. I ordered Alex 's Crazy Twos, and for $17 I got a lot of food! Everything was solid and I had leftovers for another meal. I'd definitely recommend for anyone who's craving some good old fashioned breakfast food.

Mary M.

Yelp
Usually I would recommend Thornton's but not all items on the menu are worth the order. We were really disappointed with the Crazy Mediterranean and the lame attempt at a mezze plate for sharing at $20. For reference, the small condiment cup filled with cucumber and a cherry tomato on top is a "breakfast salad". When we brought up our issue with management he shrugged his shoulders and said this is how it comes, so we cancelled it. Don't recommend this to order and stick to their comfort zone with the basic breakfast items so you're not disappointed.

Eden D.

Yelp
Thortons always holds it down. There really has not been a time when they have let me down. The food is consistent and it blesses you each time. I am the kind of person that really stops enjoying something like maybe 7 bites in but at Thortons I can eat the whole meal and still be thinking about getting another order. So you might be asking, well this sounds like a five star spot. Well it would be yes, but there are some caveats that gets to me. Thortons doesnt take reservations and obviously that is perfectly fine, it is popular enough that on most days there are lines wrapping towards the Pru. What really makes me take away the star is not allowing folks to sit when the restaurant is half empty because the last member of their party isn't there. I respectfully understand that if you are busy you shouldn't be doing that. But when I went half the restaurant was empty and they refused to seat me until my guest arrive. I waited ten minutes+ just waiting around as people left the restaurant and the tables were getting cleared leaving the place even more empty. The point of disappointment comes from the simple fact that I could have ordered a drink while waiting however was denied that chance due to a rule that is not considerate when the restaurant is practically empty. Crazy enough, I was not the only group, there were a group of two folks waiting for their third party member that were going through the same grievances. So as good as their food is, come prepared to wait.

Yelp
After years of reading the words "Eggs Benedict" on menus, I finally decided to try the breakfast dish last weekend at Thornton's during my stay in Boston. They were delicious! The eggs were cooked perfectly and the hollandaise sauce was nice and light. I also loved the home fries. They were spicy! The service was great and so was the coffee. And the meal was affordable and I had a nice view out onto the street from my little table. If I stay in that area of Boston again soon I'd love to return for another breakfast.

Bri C.

Yelp
Loved the food! Excellent service. The cutest location too. I can't say anything bad about this place. 10/10

Mary G.

Yelp
Great place for breakfast, lunch. Wonderful staff and great value . Two UK ladies visited August 2023, we will be back .

Jason S.

Yelp
Understaffed & slow. Waited 10+ minutes to get seated on a Tuesday late in the morning. Eventually, the person in front of me left--then so did I. One waitress running around for all tables. Probably best to save time and head elsewhere.

Marcus W.

Yelp
Treated my sister and niece 10 months old to brunch Saturday, Sept 3, 2022, and found a parking spot right out front we came here also because I checked & they are kid-friendly, was a small line to get inside the restaurant, after it started to get a very busy long line to get in. A very busy spot, but servers were on top of things clearing tables and we got seated fast, I got Alex's Crazy Two's 2 pancakes I got bananas, 2 bacon, sausage, 2 toast, and home fries. Coffee. my sister got Eggs Any Style scrambles, crispy bacon, wheat toast, and coffee. Our server Susette was great friendly and welcoming considering it was very busy but she was excellent at multitasking my banana pancakes were delicious light not heavy very good I got eggs over easy cooked perfectly toast was well buttered, and the coffee was fine. The only thing was bacon was way too salty for mine and my sisters I didn't eat it. Everything else was good we had a relaxing brunch and would return to try other things on the menu.

Jill T.

Yelp
Great service! Super friendly! Our food came out extremely fast, and was amazing. We had the crepes, the eggs Benedict, and the Alex's crazy twos. Everything was great!! Loved the pancakes... I know.. they are pancakes... but no they were really great pancakes!! :)

Gene T.

Yelp
Coffee was very good food was hot fast service I do recommend coming here for a good breakfast cheaper than the hotel

Elizabeth O.

Yelp
Thornton's is the perfect diner-y, not super pricy sit down, brunch spot in Back Bay and the food is great! Went here for Saturday brunch and had a nice time -- I went a couple of times when I used to live in the area. The service was a bit slow but the place was packed so didn't blame them, we sat outside because the weather was gorgeous. I thought my eggs Benedict were delicious and the side of corned beef hash was excellent as well. Definitely will be going back when I'm in Boston again :)

Sujatha H.

Yelp
5 stars for Mickey! The BEST server. Such a hard worker and great suggestions. Wonderful, kind, thought, and personable! Dad's chicken burger was really good!! Crepes weee a little bland for me but depends on what you put in them. Amaretto French toast was very nice and tasty. Huevos rancheros-I've had better but they have a lot of Benedict's I'd love to try next time. Ask for Mickey!

Ray I.

Yelp
Good breakfast spot. Line down the sidewalk when we stopped by on a Saturday morning. Nice touch of brining you small cups of coffee while you waited though. Service was a tad slow but to be fair, they were amazingly busy. We had the poached eggs and pancake dish, along with a spinach omelette. One egg was poached perfectly, the other was solid yoke. The omelette was a large portion and just slightly over-salted. Overall though a solid experience.

Joanna L.

Yelp
The waitress was so nice and welcoming. Constantly updating us on when our order will be served and making sure our coffee mugs were always full. The menu literally has so many options we got overwhelmed. I ordered the buttermilk pancakes. They were light and fluffy, absolutely delicious. My friends ordered savory food, and all of them thought that it was very filling. In summary, Thronton's is your classic American diner.

Joyce L.

Yelp
Good breakfast place on Huntington St, right across from Christian Science fountain! Hash was really good!!

Denise W.

Yelp
No BS, place is trash can. Idk what's going on , or why the clam chowder is currently being fed to my dog because it is not edible, but at least he's happy. Service is past the status of trash can, it's dumpster . So god damn slow I had time to appreciate the art that was terrible on the walls. The server well one is absolutely amazing . Disclaimer: this is 100 percent true ,

Joseph L.

Yelp
I used to love Thornton's back in college, but the quality of the place seems to have dropped. I'm sure there's a logical explanation though, perhaps COVID hit hard and they're understaffed. Their eggs benedict are amazing normally. But the hollandaise sauce wasn't plentiful like it usually is. I like to have a nice, creamy river of hollandaise sauce over my eggs. Their shakshuska is a bit unstandard. They don't poach the eggs inside the tomato stew, but they scramble the eggs. I'm not a fan of this method, but it tasted good anyways. Their Belgian waffle was really dry and seemed to have been precooked, since it was cold to the touch. One last thing was their butter was served cold and in a big chunk. Try as we might, but we were unable to spread the butter at all on our toast and waffles. I really want this place to do well, so I'll be back at a later date.

Mark M.

Yelp
We went for brunch, the corned beef hash is made in house, the rye toast was the one to pick, good home fries.

Andrea M.

Yelp
Didn't like how we were treated by the server. Once we were about to pay, I usually like to customize the tip I am going to leave for our server. Once I was ready to put the amount of tip I was going to give the server, she immediately took the POS machine and said to me that they have fixed amounts in that restaurant, hence we could only choose between the percentage of tips the POS machine indicated (even though the custom tip option was available lol). I don't know if this is a real rule from the restaurant (maybe it is not and the server just took advantage of my mom and I) but I wouldn't recommend a restaurant that forces you to choose only between few options to tip the server, instead of let you choose freely the percentage you want to tip.

Brian K.

Yelp
Easy breakfast spot with generally normal breakfast food. Pretty close to IHOP but definitely better. The servers are the best here always super nice and try to accommodate you best as possible.

Erika B.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious breakfast! Wide variety to choose from. Savory to sweet. Your basic eggs to to Menemen!

Lisa W.

Yelp
GNATS!!!! were flying annoyingly all around our food while we were sitting inside. Uninspired apology was offered with no gesture for service recovery. Gross! It's a shame because the Challah French toast was pretty good.

Nicole H.

Yelp
Got a French onion soup that tasted like vinegar.... And there was a hair in it. We did not make it a big deal, just sent it back. However, never got an apology and the waitress stopped coming to our table after that like it was our fault? Just absolutely no remedy offered or anything said.. it's weird. No one liked their meal. I don't get the positive reviews

Dorothy Y.

Yelp
Saturday 9:30 am Got a table right away I was originally debating between pancakes, French toast, morning delight, or scrambled with prosciutto. Ended up choosing morning delight because it looked like it has egg benedict. The French toast base is so yums nice and chewy kind of reminds me of a donut. It's also cute how they cut out two holes to put the eggs but they give you back the two cut outs to eat. There isn't a lot of pesto sauce but you won't feel like it's dry. The regular egg benedicts had two slices of fruit. I wish mine had too but I guess tomatos already count. My friend's salmon egg benedict had overcooked eggs :( FYI all your clothes and coat and bags become smelly after eating there. Even the scarf in my bag got smelly. It took a day and a half for the smell to go away.

Scott G.

Yelp
Food was great and service was good. The place stays busy all morning. I recommend this as a spot to visit when in Boston.

Brooke Z.

Yelp
as much as i wanted to love this place, i just felt like the cons overweighed the pros of my experience. -while our waitor was extremely friendly and helpful with recommendations, the food came out extremely slowly. i'm sure the kitchen tends to be swamped with orders, but waiting for almost 45 minutes for just a couple of simple dishes was really disappointing. not to mention, the wait to even get a table tends to be anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on what time or day you decide to come by. -when my friends and i decided to come back in october, they still had a couple of tables outside of the restaurant. however, now they're only offering indoor dining. -both cash and card payment are accepted. 10/23/21 -classic eggs benedict: this is one of their most popular brunch options, which has 2 poached eggs on an english muffin with 2 slices of ham and hollandaise sauce. on the side, there are some home fries and a small slice of cantaloupe melon and orange. while the eggs were poached just the right amount, the hollandaise sauce was really offputting. it tasted way too vinegary and overpowered the entire dish. while the home fries had a good flavor, but they weren't crispy at all and even a bit soggy looking. i could only really enjoy the english muffin, which was toasted well and pretty soft on the inside. it definitely wasn't worth the total 1.5 hour wait nor the $12-13 cost. (3/5) overall, i can't imagine coming back to thornton's anytime soon. while some of their other brunch foods sound appealing, the eggs benedict was a big letdown and not worth the price either. combined with the long waits for a table and food, the friendly service simply got overshadowed. i wouldn't really recommend the eggs benedict, but perhaps we just came on an off day.

Juliette H.

Yelp
good food, but wasn't happy with how they handled their service charge policies. we showed up in a group of 11 but since they didn't have any large tables, we were separated into 3 tables distanced from each other (with 4, 4 and 3 people at each) which was fine and totally understandable. when we paid, they added the large-group service charge (for parties of 6+ people) even though they served us as if we were 3 separate groups and didn't inform us about it until we paid with tip and noticed it on the receipt afterward. while i understand having service charges for large tables, it didn't make sense to charge us in this case and even if they still had to "due to policy," they should be informing us so customers don't end up paying essentially 40% tip.

Brittany L.

Yelp
Excellent food and quick service. Loved the Irish eggs Benedict I got. Super quick walking distance to back bay and T stops too.

Spencer D.

Yelp
Out of all the places I ate at on my trip to Boston, Thorntons was the best. Location is great. Was nice to sit outside. Staff is very friendly and you can choose your seat outside. They are quick when making the food and helping you. We ordered and didn't wait long at all for our food to come and we ordered a lot. The food was very tasty. I'm very picky when it comes to challah French toast since I grew up with it. The French toast was perfect. The price is fair. I'm sure it would be more expensive elsewhere. Overall Thorntons is a great breakfast place and I will definitely be eating there the next time I'm in Boston.

Pradip H.

Yelp
Average breakfast spot. Food was decent. Got the outdoor seating. This is right next to the Prudential Center. Honestly, I enjoyed the view more than the food.

Aujere M.

Yelp
Visiting with my bestie we stopped in for breakfast because someone recommended this place. There's maybe one other couple in here so not busy. Our waiter comes an takes our order writes it down an than doesn't bring what we ask for.... Says sorry they must of got it wrong the cook is scolding him for not putting in the order right in our view. Than he just goes on about his business doesn't fix our food ... I asked for extra hollandaise sauce he said he'd order it an never brought it 10 mins later no sauce I ask for it they have an attitude an bring out cold sauce I ask for it to be warmed up. They get an attitude with me an say they can't than take it say they'll try it 8 mins later they bring out cold sauce. I'm still waiting on my turkey bacon. He kept scratching his head over our food an drink...... I guess he just gave up he's sitting down eating his breakfast now food was cold potatoes were not cooked all the way an the service was bad 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! ‍

Zane B.

Yelp
Worst server I've ever had. Many years as a server myself and I never leave a 0$ tip. They earned every bit of my 0$. They were literally not even busy enough to be an official. I have unfriendly service. On top of the service, the food was cold. The food was actually not terrible food but it wasn't good enough to guys've cold especially when not busy. Overall literally the definition of a 1 star.

Emily C.

Yelp
Definitely a cheap brunch option in Boston! Unfortunately, they do not take reservations, so expect to wait. Often times customers are asked to wait outside due to the limited space. I usually order their "eggs any style" from the breakfast menu. As basic as it sounds, eggs, home fries and toast for $5.60. I've been here a handful of times and I must say, they've reduced the portions. In the past, I would order the same dish and could never finish. Now, they offer just the perfect amount allowing me to leave satisfied.

John M.

Yelp
We were visiting Boston and stopped in for a late breakfast on a Thursday morning after trying to find a decent place that wasn't too expensive. Let's just say at the start that this is not a fru-fru high end brunch place...but the food was really decent for a very reasonable price. Having said that, we really liked our meals. Overall, here is what we noticed: - Diner-like atmosphere...good service from our waitress. - Decent coffee--not over the top good, but not what you normally think you'll get at a diner. - I ordered the Smoked Salmon Plate, with two eggs scrambled on the side. The bagel was great, nicely toasted, and it came with some type of cream cheese sauce, which was tasty but not exactly what I had been expecting. The eggs on the side were a generous portion and cooked perfectly. My son had the Challah Bread French Toast, which he liked but which he said were a bit overrated (given feedback he had gotten from his college student sister). My wife got the Scrambled Eggs with Prosciutto, which she enjoyed alot...and, I did too the next day when I got to eat some of her leftovers. Bottom line: Affordable, respectable breakfast joint...we'd go back for sure.

David S.

Yelp
Quinne was a delight as our server, welcoming upon arrival, patient with our idiosyncrasies (indoors or out? milk w/iced tea), good-natured and friendly but keeping our menu review on track and endorsing the cherry stuffed french toast--which was yummy!

Brad S.

Yelp
Terrible service, cold food. Food itself was mid. The prices were just as high as anywhere else, including the cheesecake factory. That's across the street where you would get five star, dining and service in relative terms. I can only imagine this place stays in business because of its location and the fact that travelers are already trapped or once they start eating the wait staff must live on the fact that business travelers click the 15% tip but it was absolutely awful.
