I'm in San Diego for just a few days, from PA. Wanted to spend some time at one small brewery and decided on 3 Punk Ales. So glad I did! Beer was fantastic, as was the service, setting and conversation. Will definitely come back next time I am in the area.

Google
You know when a brewery has a small menu, they can nail every beer and this one sure does. Impeccable vibes and a great location as well

Mike Dobbins

Google
Awesome spot with a Punk Rock theme. The beers and seltzers were amazing. Super clean inside and out. The only issue would be the lack of anything actually “punk” as they were playing hip hop. Yes we will go back next time we are in Chula Vista.

Google
Regular beer. The IPA was the one I liked the most. I enjoyed the atmosphere, and the service was friendly. Solid 3.5 stars (round up to 4) because of the beer.

Google
What a blast! This place throbs with a 90s grungy vibe. Boogieman DJ was kicking it old school during our visit and just set the ideal mood. Per usual, I tried the darks. Putin was an ideal imperial stout, but the oatmeal was bitter (come ON California, stop it with the hops in stouts! They should be smooth). The blueberry sour was ok, but not my fav. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, stay and dance, stay and drink, you do you and just hang. All is good here and it's perfect.

Google
Great spot. Fun atmosphere. IPA centric, but really well-made beer. The Imperial IPA was excellent.

Having a great time at Thr3e Punk Ales Brewing Co. recording our 7th episode. The atmosphere is great, especially the music, the people are friendly, and most importantly, the beer is punking phenomenal! This brewery is a must visit! Come on down and play some Jenga with the kids if you want! Cheers everyone! 🍻 #Beer #BeerAmbassadors #ChulaVista #Southbay #Brewery #BeerReviews

Good selection of beer. Good hangout/meetup spot to grab a beer or two. Easy going and friendly service. Appears that dogs are welcome too.

Yelp
Was still living in Chula Vista when se that this place was under construction, couldn't wait, especially because of the name. Went once they opened up and loved it. Craft beer drinker of 25 years now, moved back home to L.A. but still go visit when I'm in town. It's my favorite San Diego brewery and that of my childhood friend in L.A. we both go down when we can and enjoy the vibe, the beer, and the service. Great people, beer and ambiance. LOVE 3 Punk Ales! PLEASE play MORE PUNK/ROCK and related genres. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Yelp
Spacious brewery that looks out on to 3rd St. in Downtown Chula Vista. Fun block to browse. Nice to stop in & have a cold Pilsner & IPA on tap. Very chill spot with a local following. No food.

Yelp
Ehhh...it's a brewery in Chula Vista. Grungy atmosphere. Sports playing on the TV. Cheap drinks with a funky/skunky aftertaste. Friendly and casual crowd. If you're looking for somewhere to stop by and grab an OK beer, this is the place.

Yelp
Beers on tap selections are very limited. They have hard seltzer and sour. Flavor is good. They don't do flights which is disappointing. Roomy place to hang out with friends but unless I am bored at home, I won't come here much and I'd choose other places over this. It's a good place, just not for me.

Yelp
Met with coworkers for some happy hour spirits...it was a Thursday afternoon and the place was not crowded at all. I ordered a hard seltzer and my amigos ordered a few beers. There's nothing to it, it is what it is, a brewery, the only gripe I had about the place was I wish they had better seating arrangements, stools and barrels are fine but just not too comfortable, I get it, it's a brewery that's the usual esthetic. Overall the seltzer was good and from what I heard the beer on tap was good also.

Yelp
Everything from ambiance to drinks and the weather was excellent as well . The staff was also very welcoming and helpful in accommodating our needs .

Yelp
I have been to 3 Punk Ales a few times. This brewpub brews their own beers. They have an excellent selection of different types of beers. The staff are friendly and accommodating. They do not serve food, but allow you to bring in food from other vendors. I like to get Mexican food from Don Pedro's (100 feet away) and enjoy it with a craft beer at 3 Punk Ales.

Yelp
If you enjoy the Punk scene, this place is for you. The wall art is great, the people are relaxed and the beers are fantastic!! I'm a sucker for the sours. These were amazing! Hubby had the other three in the picture and he enjoyed them all as well. One was even like a dessert beer, very thick and malty. This place is very clean which is always nice. I do wish they sold food here BUT if you plan it right, go grab food at the many places around, pick a table and get your beer, wah-lah!! Thank you, Thr3e Punks for a great time!

Yelp
My husband and I have been enjoying downtown Chula Vista for a few years and 3 Punk Ales is usually one of the bars we stop at. They don't offer many beers on tap but there's a couple that we enjoy. We go up bar and try to order a beer and the female bartender turns to us and asked us "what do you want?" Instead of "what can I get you" or any kind way of greeting customers as a bartender would generally say. Taken back by her abruptness, we gave her our order and asked if she could put the LA Lakers vs Denver Nuggets game on. She said she didn't have time for that. We were taken back by her attitude and decided to close the tab right then. Then she comes to the end of the bar where we are talking and enjoying our beers and starts talking to another customer right next to us saying she "doesn't have time to change the f***ing tv and definitely don't have time for f***ing customers that have one beer and close out." Mind you there was no one else in line at that time. Then she starts going on a rant of how she has to "go see what these B****es want" as she makes her way back to the ordering area of the bar. This bartender is toxic with an attitude like that. Not only did we leave but the guy next to us left as well. It was very unprofessional as uncalled for. I hope someone would tell me if my bartender was unprofessional as she was. That's a great way to lose business fast. Best part was as we found another bar to enjoy a beverage at, the guy she was talking to next to us came along. He was telling us how she was hitting on him and talking trash about other customers in front them for quite some time. I hope this review is read by the owner. It's a toxic work environment for the co-works not just the customers she's running out of the bar.

Yelp
3 Punk Ales has something good brewing. It is a fun setting with a punk rock theme! I really enjoyed their Helter Seltzer Watermelon Mint, served in a glass with chilli powder on the rim. It is spicy, minty and "mellony". If you could bottle Chula Vista vibes, they'd come with a 3 Punks Ales label. Great atmosphere to meet with friends, watch a baseball game (Go Padres!) while drinking your favorite Ale! Albert the bartender was by himself on a busy Tuesday afternoon, but he still managed to be fun, entertaining and provide service to everyone. Food is required to sit and enjoy your drink at the brewery. We were given tickets for food at Don Pedro's Taco Shop, it is 30 steps away. The taco shop lady was not very welcoming when my friends and I used the tickets to redeem our food. Nevertheless we are definitely coming back!

Yelp
Stopped in last night (Saturday) for a few beers for a friend birthday. There wasn't any food but there were chips for sale. No worries I ate before. The service was quick and very helpful. When we arrived around 9pm the space was still pretty open and you could totally have a conversation. At around 9:30 a band come thru playing songs for money. Honestly the ambiance was great but it made conversations nearly impossible. I ended up leaving around 10 and headed home. I would stop in again just for their seltzers! The grape soda flavor was so yummy!

Yelp
Thr3e Punks is a fun and lively brewery with pretty good beer. We visited for the first time this past Friday and were helped by a young, friendly guy behind the bar. He told us about the beers we were curious about and even gave us a small sample of one of them. We were going to get just a few tasters but he suggested a flight instead. I assumed that the flight might be a better deal (often the case at breweries), but it appears that you pay the full price per taster and it doesn't really matter if you get one taster or five. The tasting room smelled strongly of cleaner so we ended up sitting by the open windows so we could get some fresh air even though it was a little chilly. In warmer weather, this would be a fun spot to people watch since it overlooks the main drag. The beers were solid, and I thought the "Needle in the Hey" double IPA was the best one we had. It was citrusy and had tropical fruit notes along with a hoppy flavor profile. We also shared the Oktoberfest, barrel aged Emo Brown, Starlight, and "Putin on the RIS" Russian Imperial Stout. I'm a huge fan of Russian imperial stouts but found their version a little too bitter on the finish for my palate. Prices were typical for a brewery, and I enjoyed the punk theme and music. I also really like that you can bring whatever food and snacks you want to munch on while having a drink. This brewery is also dog friendly -- always a plus in my book.

Yelp
I had heard of this spot for ages but I rarely visit Chula Vista and I've never been to CV downtown. I finally found myself with free time on my hands and I popped by. This place has big open garage roll up doors letting the outside in. They have a number of beers on tap. My favorite was the RAMONES German pilsner. That was an excellent beer. I tried several others in my flight, all great. The best part may have been the beautiful bartender with her hoop earrings, beautiful blonde hair and kind words and gentle nature...but I digress! Stop in and grab a drink. Support local!

Yelp
Its hot in here during the Day!.... get some industrial fans in there! lots of IPA's on tap if you enjoy bitter beer , apparently good joint for live music , but dont know if ill return outside of that reason.

Yelp
This is a gem of a brewery in the South Bay. I typically head north for my brewery fixes (Miramar and North Park) but this one may pull me to stay closer to home. Service during Covid is excellent. Staff was very accommodating and told us to seat in or outdoor. The Watermelon and Strawberry hard seltzer went down easy. You do have to order food here to drink right now which they have a food truck outside. On this day I got a taco that was pretty tasty as well.

Yelp
Been dieing to try the breweries in downtown Chula Vista. Two weeks ago, I got that opportunity. The first of three stops was Thr3e Punk Ales. Windowless, the brewery opens out to the street. As you drink a tall pint you can watch people walking by going about their business. They do have a few TV's near the bar area. Nothing like a sport's bar where they are plastered all over the place. This place is more of a chill spot with little if any distractions. A wide open spacious brewery that serves good beer at a fair price. Definitely a nice spot to relax and enjoy a beer. I will be back. Support local businesses especially the good ones. Thr3e Punk Ales is great.

Yelp
I've been coming to this bar for a while and all the employees and guest are very friendly. It's a great place to be when you want to get out or go out for a drink. Meet friends at the bar or make friends at the bar. If no one is there the bar tenders are always there to serve you drinks and keep you company. Every employee there gives a happy vibe especially the owner but the one person I would like to acknowledge is Chris AKA GLASSES , or Mr. Chris. He made my daughter very welcome and has always taken very good cate of us. I totally recommend this bar to anyone and everyone. If your not so much of a beer drinker the seltzer are always a plus. Visit 3rd Ave 3 Punk it needs to be on your bucket list. Not only for the beer but for the Vibe. Cheers

Michelle H.

Yelp
Came here for the first time when I was visit.. decided to do a brewery hop as there are a couple long the same street. Bartender was cool... she made some good recommendations.. cool vibe... took a beer to go.. they canned it right there in front of us.. pretty cool to see.. thanks guys!

Yelp
I stopped on here to try some of their beers.  I enjoyed a black IPA and a Russian imperial ale.  Both were good. They have free wifi (password posted).   They have soft drinks and chips for sale.  The night I visited, no food truck.  Service was friendly.  Plenty of space to sit and mingle.  They have some games to play. Nice atmosphere.  Good beer.  Easy to get to with plenty of street parking.  Definitely worth it have beer and relax.  Nice addition to all the other options opening along this street.

Shea M.

Yelp
Went to try their beer were met by the rudest server/bartender right on the outside patio. We were with a group of 10 some had gotten drinks from inside the establishment and some got them next door. She came out very aggressively and told us we had to leave did not explain the situation or the policy just that we had drinks from another. Establishment. She had a nasty attitude from the jump. They lost at least $300 in business from our group and I have no desire to go back if that is how their employees treat people. Could have been handled in a way different way.

Yelp
Absolutely my favorite spot in Chula Vista! The beers are always delish! The emo brown is my favorite!! Along with the grape soda seltzer! It literally tastes like grape soda. The people who work there are the best. Vernie is my babe! Also the music is ON POINT. 10 stars

Eric C.

Yelp
The beer was pretty good. I was expecting to come here and get a full punk rock experience. I did not. I walked in and they were playing ska... then proceeded to play a bunch of late 90s pop punk, and then they turned all the music off to let the padres baseball game audio blast. Wasn't expecting a sports bar. I wanted to have punk rock music blast my face off. This was about as punk as your local mall hot topic. The bartender was Carson Daly serving up a late 90s blink 182 record and telling me it was punk. The beer was good. Quality of beer not in question. I just wanted a punk rock bar, and nothing is less punk rock than turning off the music for the baseball game.

Yelp
Found this place after dropping off a friend. Sunday afternoon Absolutely chill Welcoming Good Beers.. What else could you ask for....

Yelp
While visiting family in Chula Vista, had a chance to get some bomb tacos, amazing beer through an awesome bar tender/cellar man! Good atmosphere for family and kids. From Mexican Mocha/Chocalate stouts, Hazzy IPA and smooth Ales, the visit was great. Will be looking forward to going back ASAP.
google avatar

Berenisse P.

Yelp
Went there and the vibe was chill and the beer was good. The bartender was really friendly as well so I would recommend.

Yelp
One of the breweries I frequent in. Chill ambiance, friendly staff, great beers! Food trucks they have out by the outside seating area are goes well with any type of beer you're into. Give 'em a try
google avatar

Joe F.

Yelp
Cruised in stoked to check it out! Beer was good, music was good (punk rock), service was on point! Enjoyed hanging out here for a while, and my kids were welcome, which is a huge plus for my wife and me. The Mexican Lager and the Kill the Pour SD IPA were my favorites. I would definitely recommend this spot, and will be coming back when I'm in town again.
google avatar

Melody P.

Yelp
Wonderful microbrew is sure to become your favorite watering hole. Delicious seltzer's are so refreshing. There are usually at least 2 seltzer choices and over ten beers on tap. Something for everyone who's over 21 in the gang!
google avatar

Jesiah A.

Yelp
I had a "Needle in the Hay". Believe me, it is a true rare find. I wish more breweries had the ability to make a truly unique beer like this. Congrats 3punk for making it to my top 3 breweries in the craft beer capital of the USA. Thank you for existing!
google avatar

Sylvia M.

Yelp
Bar tenders are rude and will actually shame you on the type of beer you get. Won't ever come back here again.
google avatar

Adam P.

Yelp
I love this place. It's close to enough to my place of work that I can make a habit of frequenting it without feeling guilty. My wife likes their brown ale but I'm more partial to their 'Kill the Pour' IPA. Like most Small Cali breweries their selection tends to skew IPA-heavy. The staff are friendly and accommodating and there's a taco truck out front on occasion. A great addition to the up-and-coming 3rd Avenue stretch of Chula.
google avatar

Saleen D.

Yelp
Awesome brewery in Chula Vista. Very friendly bartenders. You can see brewers brewing below. Plenty of televisions to watch sporting events. Great beer & several collaborations from other popular breweries. Plenty of street parking in the front.
google avatar

Michelle F.

Yelp
Downtown Chula Vista is definitely the hot spot to be these days. There are several breweries to chose from. This was my first time here. The place wasn't overly crowded but busy enough where it wasn't dead. I liked that I didn't have to wait a long time in line to order a drink and the bartender was friendly. I'd definitely be back. I'm new to the ipa world but the drinks I had were delicious. And they weren't overly expensive.
google avatar

Bert A.

Yelp
Great service! Best bar on Third ave. Crazy music. But nice open atmospheres Great for games on tV

Ray G.

Yelp
Great brewery located in the downtown Chula Vista area. Best beer selection and helpful staff. Definitely grab a Flama Blanca beer!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is one of my favorite in Chula Vista! Great drinks and even more amazing staff. Highly recommend this spot .

Lea S.

Yelp
Finally got my ass here! Downtown Chula is really starting to get into the SD beer scene. The beer is here! Ale houses and breweries popping up all over Third Ave, and more to come even. Trying to escape my roommate and his girlfriend I grabbed some lunch and headed here hoping for good beer and music. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by a screamy rock song. Nice! Finally a place that places good tunes. A collage of band names and old show posters is painted on one wall over the recessed brewing area. The place itself is pretty no nonsense, but clean and the bartenders were very helpful and friendly. They sell bottled water, chips and pretzels as well. I got tasters of all their beers, $14, and sat down to indulge. The two that stood out were Kill the Pour, an IPA, and Needle in the Hey!, a double IPA. My next fav was the pilsner which was still very flowery, so this is definitely a hoppy joint. I enjoyed their lager and their stout, but they didn't grab me. As I sat there and got to feeling fine I was pleased to hear a variety of bands: Dead Kennedys, Danzig, Misfits, Suicidal Tendencies, Social Distortion, Motorhead, and the Sex Pistols. So yeah, I liked this place. Play some Shellac, boys!
google avatar

Dawn B.

Yelp
Out of the five beers that I tried I recommend the black IPA, it's awesome, or the salted caramel. Good friendly place overall.

Yelp
They've only been fully open a very short time, but already 3 Punk Ales is making a splash. The newly opened tasting room is nicely decorated (the accent wall is devoted to punk bands). It has several large communal tables, space at the bar, and seating at the now-traditional garage door windows to the street. The brew deck is visible through the floor on one side of the room, almost like the Mike Hess North Park location (but smaller). In the pre-opening phase, this place was known as "Thr3e Punk Ales". There are still some echoes of that way of writing the name in their web presence, but all the newer instances of the name (including the sign above the door and the website) say "3 Punk Ales." The first way was clever, but I guess it must have caused some confusion. Don't let the "ales" part of the name get in your way, either: On my visit, only three of the five beers on the board were ales. I thought the Mexican lager was pretty good of its kind (though I'm not a fan of lagers), and apparently it is by far their biggest seller. (I asked what makes a lager "Mexican" but my bartender couldn't give me a convincing answer; according to an article from Draft Magazine, it is crispness and a lack of fruity esters that distinguishes Mexican from other lagers.) Thr3e Punks' pilsner is interesting, too: it is hopped to a much higher level than a traditional pilsner and tastes much more like an IPA. Both were well made, as were the other three beers I tried. My overall impression is that 3 Punk Ales is making solid beers; they have the advantage of having guest brewed out of Finest Made Ales in Santee for a while under their own brand (selling both kegs and bottles) while the Chula Vista location was being prepared, so they are fully ready to go now that they are at their home base. The number and variety of beers on tap is going to grow over time (they are set up for 20 lines, including several nitro lines and a beer engine for cask beers). The tasting room is well designed and large enough to generate quite a bit of business. From all signs, Chula Vista has already embraced them. Together with also-new Chula Vista Brewery just down the block, 3 Punk Ales joins Bay Bridge Brewing and Novo Brazil as the only breweries in Chula Vista--so far!

Yelp
Perfect spot on third avenue in Chula Vista!! Don't know what to try?? Ask for a sample.. prices are good and the beer is awesome. Perfect spot to go to if third avenue is every closed for a parade or special event. They also play sports games on their big projector screen..
google avatar

Revlis B.

Yelp
Beer selection is very limited and what they do have is just ok. Service is good as well as the establishment.
google avatar

Cheyla L.

Yelp
Husband and I were hopping around the street, trying the different breweries. When we came into Three Punks we were lucky to find two stools just opened up at the bar. We tried 4oz pours off over half of the beers on tap and literally loved each one so damn much! The staff we are very friendly abs helpful and the DJ on Friday was fantastic. I think we will visit again this afternoon for a pint or two.
google avatar

Carlos Diego M.

Yelp
This places is just cool. Pouring with punk and Rock n Roll ambience, it almost feels as if you were flown back in time to a dive rock club. Sit by the back long table and just enjoy all the concert poster art on the back wall. The beers can be on the strong side but overall I really digged this joint. Great job
google avatar

jose m.

Yelp
This is the experience the I have for this place, terrible customer service this guys think they owned the street, they charge me for 2 drinks to tell me at the end that I can drink them, rude and not a friendly environment.
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
Beer and service is still consistently good but I am BUMMED at their use of single-use plastic to serve beer in.
google avatar

Adelaida D.

Yelp
Tried their barrel red ale.... Delicious!!! Music is rockin and indeed punk as of Aug 2021 lol will come back to try their different offerings...i like the area, food and drinks!!!
google avatar

Yelp
In Chula Vista this would be my favorite beer wise. We tried all 9 brews and I enjoyed each one. Super friendly and welcoming. 2 downsides beers aren't identified after they let you know which is which so if you have a bad memory you are assed out other downside no food but they have chips and jerky to munch on. Games and kid friendly during the week.

Melissa C.

Yelp
We wanted to go watch a padre game and Angel made the event so much more amazing! His hospitality! His enthusiasm and care to service was second to none !!!!
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
Didn't have the beer listed on the website (Nina Fresa) on tap or in cans but still had a nice time at this unique brewery. They also had limited food available which was a pleasant surprise. $2 pizza slices available during happy hour (per the mobile ordering) but no other mention of what those hours are or entails. Staff was nice and tables clean.
