Why Are Christmas-Themed Bars — Like Miracle Pop-Ups —Such Big Business? | Eater

"A north-Atlanta suburban holiday-themed bar that offers a festive, kitschy seasonal experience aimed at locals seeking holiday comfort and communal celebration, contributing to the region’s unusually high density of Christmas pop-ups." - Martha Daniel

Google
I am going to start out by saying the service was really good. The server was knowledgeable about the menu and specials and also suggested options. The supporting staff was quick to check on us making sure all our needs were met. The food was really good. The onion rings were outstanding and the squash casserole was a delicious pleasant surprise. The Turkey Melt was good and made with a little spicy twist. The rest of my party enjoyed their food as well. Thank you for a very pleasant dinning experience.

Came here to try out the food, stopped by once and only had a beer. The food was really bad. The chili came out super runny. More of a soup than a chili. It was awful. Also got some wings, the worst I've ever tried in Georgia. Dried out over fried. Decided these items were not edible and got a beef quesadilla. Also not good, very greasy beef hamburger and cheese not even melted. The beer was fine though. Won't be back, much better choices near by. Bummer

Google
The grilled fish tacos here are a favorite, it’s exceptionally good and unmatched by other establishments. Additionally, the cafe offers a happy hour with half-price appetizers from 3-6 PM and 10 PM to closing.

Google
The fish tacos are really good. I also had loaded tots they were perfect. The turkey melt is really good also. And they are open late. That's the best part

Google
Good food and great service! If you’re in the area and want some good wings - go here for sure. We met friends for lunch on Saturday and they really wanted wings so we went to Three Dollar. It’s a typical sports bar theme that’s showing its age but the food and the service were on point. I had 10 wings extra crispy hot and they were excellent. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food and our server did a great job of keeping up with a large party.

Google
Three Dollar Cafe offers great service with a welcoming, local bar vibe. The onion rings and chicken fingers are fantastic, but the wings could be better—some flavors aren’t fully coated, leaving extra hot wings lacking heat. While the atmosphere is charming, torn seats and peeling posters call for some much-needed updates. Overall, a solid spot for casual dining with a few areas for improvement.

Google
They close at 11pm and at 10pm you smell cleaning fluid and chairs are being stacked on tables. Not a good place. Bathrooms are nasty!!!

Mya Wilts

Google
Wings were good. Wished they wouldn’t have charged me for blu cheese and it was only a small container. Dipping sauce is supposed to come with wings.

Yelp
Three Dollar is a classic. Family friendly with consistent good food. A few locations have closed over the years but Windy Hills location is a stronghold. There is a speakeasy like bar in the back with great service and it's open late so it's always a anytime fav.

Yelp
I wrote a long review earlier on my late husband's account. Lots of trouble, but let me say that my lunch with my son was fabulous. I was told Carmelita made the chicken salad, and Shea was our server. The food was the best we've had this year. I had given up on eating out in Peachtree Corners, but the Three Dollar changed my mind. Thank you to the kitchen, manager and Shea. The music wasn't my favorite, but who plays Sinatra anymore?

Yelp
Ordered via door dash. Typical bar food. The food came in a reasonable amount of time. We had orders for 7 people. The mozzarella sticks and wings were the biggest hit. We had three orders of chicken fingers and fries. The chicken itself tasted good but the breading could've been crispier with more flavor. The fries were just ok.

Just A Chill Guy M.

Yelp
Love their food! Stop by for lunch every few weeks. Highly recommend the Philly, or of course, you can never go wrong with the wings

Yelp
I love the TDC Grilled Fish sandwich! This time not so much, the service was good, the food was just ok. My guest ordered blackened fish and it was just grilled. It was not as clean inside as it usually is. And I go to the same restaurant whenever I want the fish sandwich. I will try another of their locations next time!

Yelp
Service was slow even though it's was basically empty, I bought a strawberry daiquiri & it was the worse one I've ever had. It's was flavorless, I told the waitress just to let her know. She offered to take it off the bill even though I refused, she insisted so I said ok. She then came back to say it couldn't be taken off the bill. The place is outdated with holes in the seats.

Yelp
Cool Sports Bar Vibes. I Didn't Dine In I Was Just On A Pick Up Mission To Try The Fried Grouper Fish Sandwich. My To Go Order Was Packed Very Nicely With Utensils, Napkins & All The Condiments Including Tartar Sauce. I Liked That They Kept My Lettuce, Tomato, & Onion To The Side So My Bun Wouldn't Get Soggy. The Crunch On The Fish Batter Was Great & The Tender Flounder Underneath Was Large & Tasty. I Will Go Back To Try The Blackened Version Of The Sandwich. The Host Who Took My Order, Was Kind, Professional & Competent. I Look Forward To Going Back.

Yelp
Big portions that are filling with pedestrian flavors and poor service. I'm a big fan of a smash burger and ordered the Hangover Burger. The egg was cooked to order, but the patty wasn't anything like a smash burger. It was too thick and had no caramelization and very bland in flavor. The thick fries I had on the side were unsalted as well, although cooked adequately. Getting drink refills was a real challenge, and despite the fountains being readily available, we couldn't even get our own refills. The cheese sticks are giant logs, and at least you'll leave with a full belly.

Yelp
I'd say the 3.5 star average here is probably fair. I recently got to try this chain via Uber Eats after redeeming a $15 off promo code. I had no issues with delivery or temperature of the food. Everything tasted fresh and was seasoned well. I ordered the shrimp and grits which came with garlic bread and a side choice of soup or salad - I got the salad. I also ordered mashed potatoes on the side to go with my next day's lunch, but I ended up eating them with the sauce from my entreé, since there was more sauce than grits. The potatoes had nice chunks like some homemade styles do, if you like that. I thought they were good, even though I usually prefer creamy and smooth texture. I can't say I've ever had a bad experience with shrimp and grits anywhere I can think of and this was no different. Everything tasted good with the exception of the grits being a little hard in places as it was formed in a grit cake instead of a bed. The presentation was pretty sloppy for takeout but it's understandable as they used a large container. Overall, it was still a satisfying dish, but I think I still prefer Pappadeaux, Louisiana Bistreaux, or The Atlanta Breakfast Klub for this dish in the area. The salad and bread were nice touches as a lot of restaurants make you order those a la carte these days. I probably would try more items from this chain again. It wasn't mind-blowing but it definitely was a solid, filling meal and with the discount who could complain?

Yelp
I avoided this place because when I looked online, nothing costs $3. So why the name? But I came for a quick beer and some lemon pepper wings and it was excellent. The environment was nice and a good selection of beer. I would come again!

Sadie M.

Yelp
Cheese steak sandwich was good. Waitress was terrible! I ordered a drink and had to go up to the bar myself and pick it up. Had to flag her down for utensils after our food came. She was busy chatting with a co- worker and messing on her phone. Name was Steph.

Fred C.

Yelp
Very good menu and service. Was very pleased with selection and the waitress was an outstanding server. Though busy, she stayed on top of all our needs. Will dine there again next time we are in town.

Yelp
Best grouper sandwich! A friend introduced me to this place through take out and it was the best fish sandwich I've ever had. The filet is very generous and much larger than the small bun. It came with pickles, caramelized red onion tartar sauce. Have plenty of napkins nearby and go ahead and trim some of the fish around the bun so you can handle the sandwich and enjoy the extra fish on its own afterwards. I loved it so much that I ordered it the next night as well. The online order for pickup is pretty easy and straight forward. I will be introducing my wife to this place on Sunday.

Yelp
Great food 5/5 services great 5/5 and the atmosphere 5/5. They have enough t.v.s in there for any game you want to see and the really hussel. This is my go to place for any sports.

Russ G.

Yelp
Food was ok but what was really a bother was it was trivia night and three ladies beside us knew the guy that was calling the questions out. So we saw them taking pictures of the screen and obviously texting someone to look up the answers. I will let you guess who won.

Yelp
On this side of town waiting for traffic to die down. They have a small patio of which I called in advance and they allowed my dog and I to sit there and eat. The waitress was attentive, accurate and quick. I ALWAYS get their fish tacos cooked to perfection and a cocktail that was good can't remember the name. Maybe something tea? Always good, never disappoints.

Yelp
We came in for football Sunday and got the nacho mountain, wings and fish sandwich. They ain't lying when they said "mountain" when describing the nachos! While the toppings weren't overwhelming, the mere volume was. I asked that the wings be fried medium, i.e., not tooth shattering, and they were crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. The only way to describe the fish sandwich is humongous--hanging over the sides of the bun by at least 3 inches on each side. It was crispy and delish. Finally, the star of our experience was CANDICE. Candice is one of the most attentive, pleasant, sincere and professional servers we have encountered in a very long time.

Yelp
Went there this past Saturday. I used to work around the corner, and would periodically go in with wife and kids when they'd visit at work. This location is at the tail end of a shopping center, tucked into the woods, which may explain why not as busy as it should be. Last weekend a buddy of mine and I met there as a mid-way point. We both obviously had wings on the brain: he ordered Garlic-Parm, I ordered blend of Hot and Lemon Pepper. Simply put - best wings I can remember getting in a restaurant. He liked his so much, he ordered a second set of 20, planning to take leftovers home. So they were 2 for 2 on happy wing customers. Sat at a hightop near the bar - great spot to watch sports, service was quick and attentive. All around, exactly what we wanted: beer, great wings, good service. If I was in P'tree Corners more often, I'd gain weight from all the wings I'd eat.

Yelp
My co-worker convinced a few of us to do take out from this spot. Ok I'm game. I give anybody a shot. She recommended the Buffalo Shrimp to me because she knows I love seafood. She went on and on about how good the food is at this spot. The name gives you the impression that there are cheap eats here. Nope not the case. I ordered the Buffalo Shrimp platter and was just unimpressed. It literally was 10 Shrimp and some Fries. The co worker made it seem like the Shrimp were going to be huge. To me they were normal sized. This platter was $13.99 before tax. Hmmm thats a nice hunk of change to spend for a lunch on a regular work day. Yeah I'll pass next time. The shrimp was ok. Kind of dry. No sauce. The fries were soggy. I'm good.
google avatar

Earl J.

Yelp
My wife had the Buffalo Shrimp with Steak Fries and I had the 6 pack of bone-in wings with Medium sauce and steak fries. Let's first start with the fact that the "steak fries" where regular fries which were ice cold. The buffalo shrimp was under seasoned and overcooked. The wings were also overcooked and the "medium" sauce was mild at best. The good thing we did have were the drinks. my wife had an apple martini and I had the Raspberry Crown. Service was mediocre and the ambiance was alright. There is a claim that they have the best wings in Atlanta. I will have to disagree with that and state that I have had better wings at BW3 and Bubbas 33. And lastly, we had to have another server bring our bill to us. Needless to say, but the food and service tonight earned the name of the restaurant, $3 Cafe

Yelp
Horrible customer service. I experienced covert racism at this Peachtree Corners location. Arrived and was seated. After 25 minutes of waiting for a server to take my order no one came to take my order. I noticed a customer of a different race who arrived after me was seated and served immediately. It's rude and unprofessional to not acknowledge customers and to have them wait while others are being served. I've previously enjoyed dinning here yet will not return. Perhaps this staff needs immediate sensitivity and equality training. There should be a level of fairness that ensures every customer is treated the same.

Yelp
Popped in here tonight on the invitation of a friend for the Tuesday night trivia event. Showed up right at 7, was seated and started on trying to help our team win first place. Our table ordered food, I had the Caesar Salad (full portion) and the other guys had wings, hoagies, one looked like a cheesesteak- all of the food came out quickly and was tasty. Had a bloody mary with Tito's and no garnish. Not bad, and also had a couple servings of Jameson. Our server, Bailey was very professional and sweet. Anything we needed was just a quick moment away- they had the inside set up for social distancing, which was not as crowded as I remember this place years ago before I moved back but still pretty busy. Bar closed at 9- that was surprising to me. Anyway, I can't complain about anything tonight- we won first place, I believe we took care of Bailey, and her mom even popped over to say hello LOL. We were definitely going to tip appropriately but after her mother came by it was determined we would make sure we helped out where we could. They don't have as many tables per server now, so I imagine service jobs will be tougher until we hit pre-COVID levels. Thanks for a great meal- trivia was fun! We will be back, for sure.

Yelp
I love love love this place , they're appetizers are amazing and they're always quick with the cheese sticks . They're service and attentiveness to they're customers is a 10/10 and the drinks always bussing ! I'd suggest the appetizer platter, wings, and shrimp Alfredo ! I also love that tasty ass strawberry frozen daiquiri!

Yelp
This place "typically" has really good service and the best wings in town, but be careful when you order online as the incompetence of the server will be passed on to you and backed up by a greedy manager who is clearly more concerned about her meal on the house than she is about resolving an order. I don't blame the server. She seemed to be easily confused but at the same time unable to read an online ticket. I received the text indicating that my wings were ready. Upon arriving, she said there was a problem, after my placing the order the same way for several years, because I chose more than one sauce. Actually she claimed I had chosen all 10. I didn't want to argue so I simply pointed out that the ticket reads in multiple places, "on the side." She looks shocked like she hadn't seen that before. She goes the the greedy, stop interrupting my comp meal manager, who then claims, you can choose one sauce. I said really because I just ordered from here twice and had no problems with more than one sauce on the side. I simply request a refund realizing that these are clearly people who have no work ethic and are just weekend fillers. The manager had no words, just processed the refund. So neither did I, I decided to take my complaints to the online community where the playing field is more leveled. When she said one sauce, although I believe if I was a white man or woman, she would have tried to resolve it, but because she seemed to prefer I not patron the business anyways, she made NO EFFORTS AT ALL. Fortunately as a consumer I can choose where I spend my money and time and where I do not. I like this restaurant and the food, but this manager is suspicious and uninterested in attending to customers "like" me especially if there is an issue. See the photos and all of the different dates that I've ordered wings online, with multiple sauces on the side with no problems. DO NOT ORDER ONLINE ON THE WEEKENDS because of there is an issue, you will be dismissed as if they're doing you a favor by serving you. See photos I'm too mature to argue with petty people who hate their lives and their jobs. That's why we have Google and other sites to review. She did nothing to resolve the order. Her attitude was like get out.

Yelp
I was hesistant about this location based on the size of the crowd. But I was really impressed! We sat ourselves right away and greeted promptly. Ordered the $3 special (Sex on the Beach) cocktails...now that's a deal! I ordered 3 or 4....can't remember. The bartender wasn't consistent with how they made the drink each time (too much ice, filled half way, etc), but they tasted great! Decided to get the hot wings and a house salad on the side. Also, ordered the fish sandwich as well. The wings were crispy, large, and spicy. These are definitely pub worthy. The house salad was only $4 and for that you get a lot. Their portions are massive here. The fish sandwich was so huge, the fish was twice the size of the actual bun. The first thing I thought was where did they catch that fish? It was crispy on the outside and hot and flaky on the inside! Their portions massive here! I'll be returning this week for sure!

Yelp
For some reason I always forget how good this place is. Service is A1, very attentive and knowledgeable Food was beautiful and so tasty, burger was cooked perfectly , also tried the shrimp and chorizo tacos, super filling and the shrimp were a good size also. True to the name they do have some $3 options , I chose to go with the drinks , sex on the beach and long islands , just know that they were in small cups. Not complaining tho.

Yelp
$68.00 and my food was uneaten because the kitchen mixed our bbq wings with lemon per hot. Yoshi wanted me to bring him the 30 uneaten wings, box full of carrots and order of fries to switch for new improved dinner. Well if it wasn't 9:18pm and I had the day off work, maybe I would make that 25 min drive. So Yoshi, why don't you send someone to help us? They can pick up the mistake and bring us what I paid $68. Nope, he couldn't do that. He offered to let me bring him food now or Raul will accept tomorrow while I'm woking. Nope! But I'll save my family dinner and make them starve because you can't fix it. I'm bringing your mistaken dinner tomorrow after work for my refund. It's all in the fridge and headed to 3 Dollar tomorrow for a refund.
google avatar

T T.

Yelp
Ordered via DoorDash. My mushrooms came without the sauce and the wings were tiny little petrified wings. 10 wings cost me almost $18.00. I doubt they would have the guts to serve those wings to someone in the restaurant.

Yelp
Ive been coming here for over 10 years. Recently my son saved a puppy and has done a nice job training her. We wanted to sit on the patio since the weather has changed for spring. The hostess had a major attitude that the policy was that if anyone was sitting on the patio that dogs were not allowed. There were 5 tables between the end table and where another table was sitting. She could've just looked the other way. Instead we ordered to go (because the food is good). Other businesses in this same block allow dogs on patios. I'm not happy with the business management here, long time customer may not ever go back.

Yelp
I was looking forward of eating here. I had the Cajun pasta that others was raving about. There was Cajun about the pasta, no flavor AT ALL!! I will stick with Chili's Cajun pasta and its cheaper. It also came with chicken jerk soup that was terrible. The sauce in the soup taste the same at the sauce used in the Cajun pasta. My boyfriend had the grill fish and he said that the perch at J.J. fish in Decatur is much better. The bread that came with the pasta was just grilled bread, no garlic or anything. Everything should have been 3.00, I had to go to Popeyes chicken to fill up.

Josie M.

Yelp
The place smells like a dive bar and the tortilla soup tastes like it's from the can. BUT everything else on the menu is good and the service is always great.
google avatar

Maya B.

Yelp
I love it here, My good coworker took me here and ever since its been love at first sight lol. The food is always fresh and cook to my liking--worth every penny.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
Meh. I'm from out of town and ordered wings to go...and they were less than exciting. The timing was good as far as what we were quoted for the food to be ready, but as far as the actual taste of the ones they were absolutely nothing special. The bar itself seems like a very quiet laid-back far not too much going on. Honestly I wouldn't go back just because it's not my type of vibe.
google avatar

Yelp
Three Dollar Cafe successfully catered a pickup order of 200 WARM wings in 4 flavors (BBQ, Lemon Pepper, Parmesan and Honey ?), along with individual personal containers of both blue cheese and ranch dressings, totaling 2 trays of chicken, 2 trays of dips fir our daughters Baby Gender Reveal event held in a parks Pavillion. I would highly recommend using their catering service. We received expert and personal service. The wings were a hit, with no left overs for a 60 person event. Thank you, $3 Cafe for a job well done. Edith & Louis Jones, Lawrenceville, Ga.

Yelp
Rude staff & sub par food. You can tell there is a lack of communication amongst them
google avatar

Yelp
The food and service was amazing. Very friendly staff along with Covid guidelines being followed. I would highly recommend this place to anyone!
google avatar

Tiff H.

Yelp
No, the menu isn't all $3. This isn't Dollar Store. It makes sense, but for some reason, it really is misleading. I should have asked for an explanation as to what I could find for $3 on the menu. I didn't eat much when I was here, I just mooched off my hungry boo. He ordered the Hangover burger with tator tots, which were pretty tasty to much on. No, neither of us had a hangover. But any burger with a fried egg AND bacon? Hell yeah. I ordered a Creature Comforts Athena, a weissbier with a bit of a sour note to it. Not the biggest fan, but the draft list was a little limited. It's no Taco Mac or World of Beer draft list, but not many places can be. Overall, this place isn't original or special, but it's a different spot to hit up and open until midnight so I can't complain about convenience or being too busy.

Yelp
Service: Arthur. (RMOFCLOL). Incredible!! Food: 1/2lmn pep 1/2 hot (mxd). Ranch. Celery. Destruction. Drinks: C*s light. IceCold.
google avatar

Sean K.

Yelp
I'm a man of humble means. Imagine my disappointment when there was nothing remotely near three dollars on the menu. LOL. That being said,, the foods not bad. ;)

Deb W.

Yelp
I'm getting married very soon and I hosted a Ladies Night for 14 of my female family and close friends. Raul, Manager was awesome in setting up a table for our group. The serving staff and mgr were great! We all had a wonderful time! Love the Food!
google avatar

Mohankrishna S.

Yelp
The restaurant is open space model with bar separated on to the right side. TVs are everywhere. Menu is having some interesting items like grilled shrimp,po bouy shrimp. Nice staff. GOOD food. Not any vegetarian options though

Bryan S.

Yelp
I like this place. The wings are outstanding with the only exception Is they are TINY. I'm usually super annoyed at small wings but the flavor and goodness are so great I can't get too upset. Great beer selection and great value for the money (except again the wings are a bit pricey as most-places). But the rest of the menu is really a great value. It's a go to for me when I'm in the area. And the gal behind the bar works harder than almost any barkeep I've ever seen.
google avatar

Kellie H.

Yelp
I tried the Jessie James drink. It's got muddled strawberries . Super delicious! Haven't had a cheese steak in years! Theirs is really good! Added mushrooms and devoured the whole thing!
google avatar

Waiva K.

Yelp
This is the jack up wings we got tonight. They mixed 4 flavors into one. Who does that. Not us and yes some might. But when I ask if I can choose different flavors or is it just one flavor for 50 wings. I was very upset and had to go back to get them to correct the order and the manager Raul acted as if it wasn't a big deal. No apology , no offer of a discount or a refund. Very disappointing. For the money we paid. Will definitely not be back. If I could give a half star I would. So disappointing. I'm not done yet I'll take this to corporate.

Yelp
Great lunch spot if you are in the area. The grouper sandwich is to die for..... Loved the service and quality

Shemeka B.

Yelp
Visited 11/21/19 I'm only in the area from time to time and decided to meet my husband for lunch. The Lunch crowd The Resturant was very clean and fully staffed. I am assuming they are conscious of the anticipated large crowds that the Resturant may bring in. The staff was very friendly and patient as my husband and I were taking business calls and not ready to place our food order. I ordered the Wings/french fries and grilled shrimp. The Fries and wings which I ordered lemon pepper were great. I only like lemon pepper crispy dry! I hate the lemon after taste of wet wings, the Cook and Server brought my wings out perfect for me. The grilled shrimp on the other hand.. needs a lot of seasoning and old bay seasoning. My Husband order fried wings like me! If and when I'm in the area, I plan to stop here. The only thing I hate I didn't get to experience was ordering something from the Bar! But on my next visit, I will enjoy something cold and strong from the Bar.

Yelp
3/5/20 Three Dollar This is about the sixth time I've visited here in two or three years, but only my first review on yelp. They have a fantastic grouper sandwich that I get and it can feed 2 if you want. I always get that blackened with a side of fries and a vast list of suds on draft. The food was very good as usual, but I would get there a little earlier than lunchtime if you can because the place was jampacked. Good food at a reasonable price.

Alexandra G.

Yelp
I came to TDC a few year ago but stopped when I found myself chewing on foil from inside my burger meat. NOW today my daughter choked on a metal object from yet again a BURGER! See photo!

Yelp
This time my wait staff was abrupt and rude but she got my order right. FOOD: I got the Grouper Sandwich-Lightly breaded and fried grouper, served on a toasted bun with fresh lettuce, sliced tomato, onion and a pickle. Served with fries and a tartar sauce. $11.50. Instead of fries I got Tater Tots. So yummy! The fried grouper was quite large.
