The 14 Best Restaurants in Santa Barbara

"Local favorite Three Pickles has three locations in Santa Barbara County. The signature sub sandwich is served on an Italian roll with the choice of deli meat, cheese, mustard, tomato, onions, oregano, olive oil, mayo, and pickles. Stop here to load up on provisions if heading out for a hike or day trip, or snag a seat to enjoy the vibes at the Downtown outlet that’s been open since 2006." - Mona Holmes

Google
We had the homemade Peruvian soup, which we both enjoyed! The side salad was generous portions, and I loved the Ranch dressing! My husband had the albacore tuna sandwich, and he loved it!

Bryan Malone

Google
Large portions, solid ingredients. Tasted pretty good, I especially liked the seasoning.

Marisa Pasquini

Google
most recently, I sat outside. Great spot for people watching and good shade. I ordered the chicken salad and although I really wanted a sandwich because they are fantastic, the salad was delicious.

Dalton Alvino

Google
Haven't been here in years but used to like it a lot. However the reuben sandwich I got this week was just alright

Vladimir Lenart

Google
Very good deli if you want for an example bring the sandwich to the work;)

Google
Stopped there to pick up sandwiches and salads for lunch. There is a good vibe there. The cashier was very welcoming and friendly. We had Cuban Sandwich and tuna salad, all good and reasonably priced. You can eat in at the bar and there is an outdoor sitting area by the side of the restaurant.

Google
Just go—you’ll thank me. This spot had great seating both indoor and outdoor. The sandwiches were excellent and we got a good diversity, as well. (Ruben, Baum mi, and a club sandwich.) The sandwich place was the best we’ve been to in SB. Family friendly, also, with seats and kid-friendly side’s. Again, great spot. Do it! Jesus is King.

Google
One line: Pure bliss sandwiches with homemade taste Parking: Street. During the weekday which I went it was pretty easy to find street parking that was free for 75-90 min. Seating: Small indoor and outdoor seating. Indoor does have a bar and sports on the tv. When I was there it appeared most people order to go. Sandwiches: Cuban sandwich- pork and ham as base meats with pickle and generous serving of avocado. It was delicious and flavorful. De La Guerra: cheese steak style sandwich with grilled peppers and guacamole. It comes with a French dipping sauce. The combination was just as flavorful as the Ruben but of course a different sandwich. Gaucho: cheese steak style sandwich that is similar to the de la guerra but without avocado. Also served with a French dipping sauce. Beverages: I did not but anything but I noticed they do have a bar. Overall: I have tried quiet a few sandwiches places and this is one is now one of the top on my list. The last time I had such a good sandwich it was in downtown Half Moon Bay that was family owned and everything was fresh including the turkey and veggies. This is better in the sense of the combination of flavors works so well. It was so good it made me want to write a review after so long of not writing one. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
Service and food were both good! Sandwiches were tasty and they came to us rather quickly right after we ordered! We didn't try any of the fountain drinks, opting for drinks in the fridge but they have some fountain drinks that are brand names (so no Coke, Pepsi, etc.). The atmosphere was chill and there were some people walking in and out due to it being around lunchtime. My daughters enjoyed their sandwich as did I and overall, definitely enjoyed this place.

Yelp
I am a big sandwhich girl and this place was so good! They did not skimp on the turkey either which is a plus for me. The staff was so kind. They even offered to wrap my sandwich up after since I didn't finish. Serving size is perfect! This place was a nice walk in with seating area on the outside. One thing I enjoy about this place was how fast they made it! Perfect in and out.

Yelp
Three Pickles, could be, would be, a regular spot if I lived in SB. Hot and deli sandwiches, Italian, Jewish, Cuban's, and more. Bring it, and bring it often! There's lots of great stuff to choose from, but since it's been a long while since I had a hot meatball sub. For $13, I got a SM meatball, it was a plenty big. Awesome bread, delicious sauce, and melty cheese couldn't be much better. The meatballs were very good, but mine are better. A little too dense, needed more bread crumbs in the mix. Still, very worthy. I can see extra trips to SB in my future.

Yelp
This little sandwich spot was perfect for our downtown visit. It was so fresh and delicious, and didn't break the bank. You can eat inside or outside, we ate outside and it was great weather! Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
Great subs! Service was quick and friendly. The perfect spot for lunch. Place is casual and there's plenty of seating including a bar top.

Yelp
The downtown location is not as good as the Goleta place! We always order the Turkey Pepper Melt. We ordered the XL with extra lettuce and got a regular without the extra lettuce and were charged $14.95. Also the bread at the Goleta store seems fresher. Best of all are the girls at the Goleta store, always friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Such a cute sandwich spot! The service is quick and friendly. Plenty of choices for sandwich's or salads! We loved the pickle bar they had! I had the chicken salad and it was really fresh and delicious!

Yelp
Located across the street from the presidio, this is a convenient spot (we used the pay lot across the street to park) with seating inside, at the bar and in the back. Sandwiches are huge and awesome. Anyone can be happy here!

Yelp
Came in here for a quick bite and it was a solid sandwich spot. It's got a casual deli feel, nothing fancy or pretentious, and my sandwich came out minutes after I ordered even though they were moderately busy. I got the tuna salad and it was solid, I appreciated the garnish, and the pickle bar where you can help yourself to, as the name implies, 3 pickle types, was a nice touch.

Yelp
It was my first time at this location. They have a bar area and the atmosphere is casual. I appreciate that they had indoor and outdoor seating. I came with a couple friends during lunch and ordered the veggie cold sandwich. They gave me the option of yellow or Dijon mustard, I had to go with Dijon - makes me feel fancy. They also had an area where you could self serve yourself 3 types of pickles. I ordered my sandwich on the French roll because I wanted a thick bread. Great choice because i was so satisfied after, I also ordered their jalapeño chips. I was surprised the bag was not half empty like most usual chip bags. The cashier was nice and gave some suggestions. I'd definitely come back! (:

Yelp
The subs and sandwiches are so tasty - whether you're a vegan or a meat eater it's a great choice for lunch. Three Pickles just opened another downtown location at on Chapala at Micheltorena. If you're in Goleta there's another open Mon-Fri. at 420 S.Fairview. My favorites are the meatball, the Cuban and Canon Perdido Club. The specials really ARE special too - you just have to call and find out if there's one the day you're hungry. Love the vibe, the people, the food. Tell 'em Mo sent me.

Yelp
So I go to Anacapa School. Today I went to three pickles and was like its good so why not. I order the XL Presidio Pastrami on wheat. I end up getting the order and it is SMALL. Like it came in a sandwich form or idk what but I ended up paying $14 (after tip) for a SMALL sandwich. I have a photo attached. If you are a big eater like me AVOID three pickles as it will not fill you up and scam you out of you hard earned money. Good place but I am disappointed by the portions for the quality of food and price.

Yelp
Some of my regular lunch spots I never think to write reviews, but the people need to hear what's good! Three Pickles is consistently good food. Quick and friendly service. And a nice spot to post up for lunch and the bar or indoor and outdoor tables. Also across from the Presidio for events or lunchtime bench eating. Their sandwiches are delicious (some favorites are the Lobero or Goodland Club), their salads are generously sized and filling (love the chicken and tuna salad salads), they have Diet Coke FOUNTAIN SODAS (the best), and a great selection of chips! It's hard to find a sizable lunch in town for under $10 but a small salad that fills me up is $7. What a steal. I've also heard great things about the burger! Can order online for pickup (or delivery in non-peak hours) which is very convenient. Great, quick, service. Delicious pickle bar. A fabulous regular lunch spot.

Yelp
Damn I can't believe I haven't been here before! I came and ordered a sandwich to bring to my sweetie on his lunch break. Now, my intention was to get a snack for myself at the fancy place a few doors down because it's my first day off in 12 days and I deserve it....but after waiting for the staff to notice me in the fancy place for 5 minutes I decided fuck this. I went back to the sandwich spot to pick up the finished sandwich and I SAW HOW BIG IT WAS. I was like; well my sweetie wouldn't want me to go hungry on my day off, I'll just have a couple bites. I unwrapped the sandwich and was struck by the beauty. The bread was so soft. The veggies looked so fresh(??!!) and there were so many of them. I can't tell if it's because I was approaching the point of famished; or if because in this sweet town of crazy ingredient loaded elaborate sandwiches that I'd simply forgotten what the humble (and exquisitely made) classic deli sandwich tasted like....but long story short I ate half my sweeties lunch and I don't regret it. For those of you wondering, l ordered the veggie-cheese sub sandwich (and added Italian cold-cuts at a wildly reasonable surcharge) Also for those of you wondering how my poor sweetie is gonna manage with half a sandwich; don't worry; it was HUGE

Yelp
My family and I have been looking for a great place to get sandwiches to go for football games up in SLO or a day on the beach. We struck out for years and watched the overall quality of food in the SB and Goleta area decline or get dominated by foo foo sandwiches/salads with weird ingredients. Not this place. 3 Pickles is a home run. So refreshing to get a great sandwich w good ole meats, cheeses, veggies (local grown avocado and bread. Super delicious! It's now a staple for my family - 3 generations of original nursery owners here in SB.

Yelp
Since finally trying 3 pickles last Wednesday, I have eaten the Goodland Club 4 times (it hasn't even been a week)-- can't wait to try something else, but pretty stuck on the perfect combination provided by that sando. It's clear they care about quality ingredients and consistency-- I've been delighted every time.

Andy B.

Yelp
Got recommended the Goodland. Fire. Salt and vinegar chips... bomb. Sweet local sandwich shop.
google avatar

Norman R.

Yelp
Great sAndwich at a reasonable price, but you expect the pickles to be delicious being it's in the name of the establishment. () Bland and nothing special.

Justice K.

Yelp
I've been coming here a few times a week since late 2020. Have had nothing but delicious sandwiches and outstanding customer service. I often will order a few sandwiches for the office during the lunch rush and they'll be ready insanely quick. Wonderful staff, environment, and food could not recommend Three pickles enough.
google avatar

Bob L.

Yelp
Best sandwiches in town! Easy online ordering for a quick pickup or lots of counter space to sit and watch the friendly staff at work. It's fun to look at the decor of the Canon Perdido location, housed in the last remaining relic of Santa Barbara's Chinatown. Order subs "Martha's Way" or enjoy one of their hot sandwiches.

Rafe F.

Yelp
It was an above average, but not outstanding sandwich shop. Service was good - sandwiches made quickly and service size was what you'd expect. Nothing terribly unique to draw me back regularly, but I would go again if I was in the area.

Yelp
I love pickles, so I definitely appreciate a pickles-forward sandwich shop. Three Pickles offers, true to its name, three varieties of pickles: spears, slices, and pepperoncini, all available gratis at a pickle bar, which is something I'd love to see wherever sandwiches are sold. We met up with friends at the park the day before Thanksgiving and ordered sandwiches (and pickles) to pick up for a picnic lunch. Our friends ordered and we picked up, and both parts of the process seemed fast and easy enough. I ordered the house sub with Italian cold cuts. The "sub our way" came on a roll with diced tomato, onion, dill pickle, olive oil, oregano, mayo, choice of mustard, and choice of cheese, with a few optional add-ons. I picked dijon and provolone and added the pepperoncini and giardiniera (both free), as well as avocado. I got the regular size, which was smaller than I expected but plenty for one meal and about right for $9.50, though the $1.99 for the pitiable amount of avocado was a rip-off. The sandwich was good, if not especially exciting, and I enjoyed it with lots of pickled pepperoncini. I'd recommend Three Pickles if you're in the mood for a sandwich with lots of pickles. I am often in this mood, so I'll probably order from here again.

Yelp
I'm not the only one who keeps going back. Soon you will too. Three Pickles is my #1 sandwich shop in SB and that's saying allot as there is some stiff competition. Conveniently located next to a Santa Barbara legend, Jimmy's Oriental Gardens (A.K.A The Pickle Room), and in the last remaining building of Santa Barbara's China Town. Parking can be a bugger on Canon Perdido St. but online ordering makes it much easier to grab and go. *Gaucho $8.95 is a hot cheese steak with cheddar, provolone, mayo and cooked onions on a roll with au jus. Who would not want to add bell peppers? A little tough to eat in the car but great for the beach, Court House Sunken Gardens or your own back yard. While the other sandos are good, this is what I crave...maybe for lunch today. *De La Guerra $9.95 is a Gaucho with added salsa and avocado (of course I add bell pepper) and au jus. Delicious but messy and does not travel well. Best to eat on site. *Don't forget the pickles!!! Toss some in a bag and you're set. Bob & Clay, Santa Barbara owes you so much. I'll keep paying our debt by visiting often. Thank you

Yelp
We first discovered the Goleta branch of Three Pickles, but loved this downtown site just as much or more. Although parking is more challenging, it has loads of charm as well as being housed in a bigger building with more seating options. My boys and I opted for the tantalizing Gaucho sandwich: hot cheese steak with cheddar, provolone, onions, mayo and au jus. So, so good! My husband had to one-up us and have the De La Guerra, which basically adds salsa and avocado to the Gaucho. He loved his sandwich as well. Three Pickles: just an excellent choice for a terrific lunch in Santa Barbara or Goleta.

Yelp
Fast service ! I loved my turkey salad, Italian dressing was simple and everything yummy

Yelp
We were traveling along the PCH and decided to make a pit stop to this little gem. The staff was welcoming, the building was really cool, and the food was fantastic

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, excellent pickles, great beer. Friendly staff! Love the pickle juice shots sandwiches are top notch!!!

Jb H.

Yelp
The staff stood around talking while my sandwich was sitting on top of the toaster. I was the one of two people in there and I had to ask if my order was ready. After eating the sandwich I was on the toilet every hour. Never going back...

Heidi T.

Yelp
Three Pickles is amazing!!! It has such great costumers service, and extraordinary subs... plus everyone is amazingly talented, and sweet! Thank you so much Three pickles!!!!
google avatar

Tiara W.

Yelp
The albacore tuna was great and the bread was delicious! I would say the customer service could be a little better and that would of given it 5 stars, but nice place for a sandwich
google avatar

Shelby S.

Yelp
I loooove three pickles! The goodland club is super yummy. Right now during Covid they don't have their pickle bar, but that's bomb too. They have an awesome selection of beverages and they are super quick with preparing take out orders.
google avatar

Nealah L.

Yelp
This is in such a cute location in downtown next to Handlebar coffee. They have outdoor seating if you are not too into the bar vibe inside. They even have a delicious pickle bar you can get pickles at while you wait for a sandwich. I got the goodland club and the lobero. Both were made with high quality ingredients and with yummy bread. I think my sandwich (lobero) was supposed to have mustard and they just forgot it. I also asked for no onions and no mayo on the goodland sandwich but it still had onions but no mayo. Overall this place was delicious but unfortunately failed on execution. They probably got caught up in the lunch rush. The workers here were very nice, patient and helpful in choosing their sandwhiches. I would definitely try this place again.

Wendy K.

Yelp
This place has become our latest obsession, and we find every excuse to stop by and pick up subs. We usually order the ham and cheese and love all of the onions, pickles, and tomatoes piled on top. We also love the three pickles that come with it.

G G.

Yelp
I love the sandwiches here, but the blonde girl at the front is extremely rude and her demeanor is so unacceptable considering she's at the register and should greet all customers upon arrival. I have seen and heard her interactions with other people that have been in front of me in line and she greets them upon arrival with a smile and will say "thank you" at the end and offers them a bag for pickles/pepperoncinis. She has never spoken a word to me, looks at me with a glare and NEVER offers me a bag for pickles. Her behavior is extremely unacceptable. I hope the owner can see this a address this behavior.

Rafael V.

Yelp
The food was good and prepared promptly. The cashier, however, did not look happy that I walked into the business. She was not the least friendly. Sad, but I will take my business elsewhere where it is wanted.

Errica O.

Yelp
Best sandwich Shop! Haven't had a sandwich there I didn't like! Very meaty too! Bahn mi special with Chinese chicken salad my favorite combo!
google avatar

Joshua G.

Yelp
Love the location out by the airport, but working downtown now, glad I can still get my Goodland Club fix. Was a surprisingly great atmosphere to watch the Argentina vs. Netherlands game today. Both patrons and staff were all very into the game.
google avatar

Taylor F.

Yelp
I honestly come to this place once a week. The staff is always friendly but even more importantly the sandwiches are so good and worth every penny. Highly recommend
google avatar

Jami N.

Yelp
Three Pickles was a random stop for us to try and it did not disappoint, (except that they were out of my favorite sandwich, The Glorious and Mighty Reuben. All Hail!) The chicken sandwich we got instead was a tad on the pricey side, but large enough to split between my partner and I without leaving us hungry. There were a few outdoor seats, but would love for a few more to be added since the weather mostly allows for it. Service was great. A terrific choice for sandwich enthusiasts.
google avatar

Amber L.

Yelp
The food's good but they way overcharge on DoorDash! $14.70 For a tiny sandwich and they didn't give me the pickle pack I ordered $3.50... never again.

S W.

Yelp
Tried the canon perdito location for the first time. LOVED it!! Service was amazing, very helpful. Best grilled Reuben since NY. Cold cuts on a sub were fresh tasting with great flavor. Just the right amount of condiments on the sandwich. Even a basic tuna on rye was good. Can't say enough good things!
google avatar

Valentine B.

Yelp
Great customer service, sandwiches are really great. I get the Italian sub on a roll and it's best in town. Small seating inside and there are couple outside as well. The location is surrounded by office buildings so it gets crowded at lunch time. It's also about 5 minute drive to SB Airport.
google avatar

Christina E.

Yelp
Delicious Sandwiches. Once you walk into their deli the smells of Italian , pastrami hit your nose with a smile
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Nice little deli. In an office park so you have to hunt for it but it is worth it Inventive custom made sandwiches. I ordered the Gaucho which I would not hesitate to order again. It was an interesting rift on a philly cheese steak. The personnel were friendly and gave us some background on the odd name of this place. We all enjoyed our sandwiches and we would stop here again for lunch.
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
Only place in town you can buy pickle juice shots! Great food and spirits! Friendly fun staff!

Carson H.

Yelp
Checked this place out and was substantially pleased, tender options yielding a satisfactory sandwich. The pickles were a solid touch to a good meal with moderately high ish prices. The vibe was chill and felt like a nice locally owned feel.

Rhonda M.

Yelp
The absolute best Sandwich and Salad place in Santa Barbara! I can't say enough about the food, service and overall great place this is....it's WONDERFUL! Love the casual vibe the place has, love the new location as well! You can't go wrong with Three Pickles, no matter what location or if you order for delivery (through DoorDash, etc). MY FAVORITE SANDWICH AND SALAD place in SB!
google avatar

Topher W.

Yelp
This place is " hit and miss" the first few times they were great. Lately the last 3 times not so much. One constant is the lack of enthusiasm demonstrated by the cashier. If she had any less energy she would just fade away. You can tell she really does not want to be there. I ask for something to put the pickles in and you would have thought I asked her to wash my car or something. Side note . The pickles were turning brown.
