A Chile Road Trip on the I-25 from Las Cruces to Denver | Eater

"A Colorado City honky-tonk bar notable for a Pueblo-style green chile made from Mirasol peppers; the cupful is intensely pungent and more biting than Hatch, showcasing a rare regional pepper profile." - Gustavo Arellano

My bf got a rueben it was really good. The stringy seasoned fried were excellent!! I got the cod fish tacos. Not impressed. Wish she said it was fried balls of cod. I was expecting a piece of fish. The girl that served us was excellent and made a delicious top shelf margarita!

This is a WOW. From the time we arrived we were greeted very very nicely. Bathrooms are super clean. Restaurant is super clean and welcoming. Most important, food was amazing. The meals are simple but tasted amazing. Not to mention the size. Definitely plan for take home leftovers.

Im telling you this place is Amazing! The food is so good. I had a burger with a green chili stuffed with pepper jack cheese on top of a burger with a delicious drizzle over the top of it. Love the fries also! My Husband had the Reuben and said it was really good.

Excellent experience. Walking in you get the feeling of coziness. Super clean, great western atmosphere and environment. The ladies room was beautiful and super clean. Just off the highway, a bit hidden and not seen from the highway but it's a very, very short detour. The waitress was friendly, pleasant and attentive. The food was delicious.

Google
Great location and food. We walked in at the tail end of lunch with only two waitstaff but we were patient and they were kind (imagine that). Great food and came out hot fresh and fast 🙏♥️

We stumbled upon this place after some sightseeing. Wow!!! It was all so good. Order the onion rings for sure. The burgers were fantastic & the fries were even good! The spicy Bloody Mary was ♥️🔥. Loved the decor, even the bathroom was cute!!!!

Google
Delicious food. Loved the spice in my chicken relleno plate. The bread 🍞 was sooo good, too. Great service. All females inside, I thought it was them who owned the restaurant, but it wasn't lol. We had to wait a little bit to be seated. We had a large party, but they apologized for the wait and provided free chips and salsa. I'd definitely eat there again.

JUNE 2024. Udate....I wrote a review 5 years ago. Once again, we ate at this memorable restaurant. We booked 2 reservations, one on June 21st and the second one on June 23rd, with groups of 10 each time. Finally, on the 24th, we invited our cousin for breakfast. Jolie was our amazing cheerful server all 3 times. She waited on all of us with her undivided attention. The prices at this most interesting restaurant are more than reasonable. The food is so tasty, and the portions are hearty! You will see us again the next time we visit. Thanks so much, especially to Jolee. 5 years before the 2024 review....We have been twice to this friendly, always busy restaurant. As vacationers, we have been very impressed with our servers, Kim & Jami, who, on both occasions, tended to our large groups with smiles on their faces. No matter which dish you order from their extensive menu, you will not be disappointed. It seems their cooks take pride in presenting fresh ingredients in their attractive, delicious, generous dishes. Thanks, Three Sisters!

Yelp
No reservations required - rest your weary soul with one of Colorado's best kept secrets - real Cowgirls serving up classic comforts of home in the most darling roadside diner! I had a Black & Blue with onion rings - giant half-pound burger on a pillowy toasted bun and the freshest veggies. Giant, juicy, overflowing with flavor. A must-try during your drive by!

Yelp
I was up at Lake Isabelle with my Husband before we headed home we wanted a quick bit to eat. The service was terrible. If you don't look like them the waiters will treat you terrible. The waitress we had tried to hit on my Caucasian husband the entire time she was our waitress it was very inappropriate!!! The food was good but not good enough to return for service like that. I recommend if you're a minority you do NOT go here. Unless you want to get treated like it 1875. If I could give negative stars I would. I'm from Texas and this vibe isn't giving southern. Hospitality is a must!!!!

Yelp
$20 for a hamburger is ridiculous! Can go to Culver's and two people eat for the price of one!

Yelp
This restaurant is awesome. Everybody that works here is so friendly and the food is super good. The bread pudding was an excellent way to end the meal.

Yelp
We stopped here based on other good reviews and found spacious parking. I really enjoyed the western theme and decor and country music was playing. There were plenty of places to sit plus seating at the bar. Several TV's around the place turned on to watch sports. Our waitress was friendly and nice. I had the Three Sisters Hamburger which was nicely grilled but was dry and too thick for me to bite into properly but I made the best of it. The hamburger came with mayo, raw onion rings, tomato slices, and green lettuce. There was a side portion of thin French fries and I ordered cold sweet lemonade drink. My partner ordered a Reuben sandwich with fries that was delicious. The waitress gave us some lemonade drink to take with us, which was a nice touch. You could also buy some items, such as cap hats and shirts. Also check out the adorable restroom!

Yelp
My husband and I were just passing thru town and were so pleased with the friendly service and great food! We ordered the Fish & Chips and it was delicious. We didn't come in and sit down as we had our dog in the car and were thinking of getting fast food for lunch, but we were so glad that we stopped there because the hostess gave us a menu that we could take out to the car and then place our order for takeout and we were pleasantly surprised at how fast the service was as well as how good it was. The french fries were amazing and the Cod was very crispy. We will go there again, even though they are an hour away from our home. It was worth it!

Yelp
This time I'm reviewing dessert only. One of my all time favorites - BREAD PUDDING. This place has it. I always get it to go as I can really "enjoy" multiple servings when I get home. The trick to good bread pudding is the sauce. This one is divine. Just 2 min. in the microwave and perfect! Hard to stop eating. This place really shines for everything on the menu!

Yelp
Fruit plate is hot like it just came out of dishwasher. Deserts are frozen. Food is salty and old taste
google avatar

Wendy T.

Yelp
Exactly what we wanted. The blackened salmon Caesar salad was excellent. The salmon was cooked and seasoned well. The romaine was crispy and fresh and the Caesar dressing very tasty. The apple chicken salad wrap was good, though lacking in apple. The skinny fries were crispy. The service was good and friendly. The music seemed loud, but maybe set for the bar. A nice find south of Colorado City.

Yelp
My waiter, Patty was a wonder waiter and very kind. I enjoyed my food--the Special Burger with Onion rings very much.

Yelp
We were a large group passing through town and we stopped for dinner. The place is really cute and westerny, the staff is very accommodating and yes, the food is really good. Very good selections even for the vegetarians amongst us. I had the veggie BLT and it was decadent.

Yelp
Just stopped here by chance. Wow . Great breakfast and service. Super clean restaurant.

Yelp
We had driven by and visited this place several times on our way to and from Colorado on vacation, because I happen to be one of three sisters (and no brothers) myself! This time we made a point of actually stopping at mealtime so we could eat here for the first time! OMG, it was so good! And the ambiance cannot be beat. They have real genuine antiques like a gigantic hand-carved wooden China hutch and spittoon in the front entry way, a settee in the waiting area, etc. We especially appreciated the toasty fire in the real fireplace on this blistery winter day! But back to the food! I ordered the Black and Bleu Burger with fries and hubby had the Pork & Avocado Burrito minus the pork (he's vegetarian but picked out the pork pieces in the green chili sauce because it sounded so good!). Everything was so tasty, and we could hardly finish the huge portions! We also enjoyed humming and singing along to the classic country music streaming out of their speakers! So much fun! Definitely going back again, and not just to sign the guest registry or buy souvenirs, although we'll continue to do that too!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent menu options, HUGE portions, great customer service. Food was amazing Can't wait to go back and eat there again. Seems all the locals go there too. Bar atmosphere but classy with a lovely hearth to warm the place during the cold days. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
The service, the place and the food were amazing!!! Ordered the Burgers and the fries and the chargrilled perfection was the best taste!! The bread pudding is a must!! Our waitress made the experience amazing!

Yelp
This place is really good. I stopped here with parents while we were site seeing. I had a blt, I gotta say it may have been one of the best blts I've ever had. My parents had salads and they were gigantic!! They gave me a bite and absolutely delicious! It wasn't too busy the lighting was great in here very intimate. Food came out in a timely manner as well. If I'm ever in this part of the state I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Husband read the billboard and I paid it no mind, i kept looking online at the list of restaurants. I read the reviews of the Three Sisters Tavern and asked him if he'd mind very much making a U turn and let's have lunch at the Three Sisters (I didn't look directly at him as I didn't want to see the look I'd receive). Arrived and we were promptly seated. Morgan quickly took our drink orders and passed the menus around. Husband says it didn't take long for the food to arrive, I really didn't notice as I was decor and people watching. The place was packed and remained that way pretty much the whole time we were there (arrived about 12:30pm MTZ). I couldn't help notice there were two waitpersons (young ladies) that tended to the customers as well as bussing the tables. They did their jobs (the tasks at hand) so seamlessly that you really didn't notice how swift tables were cleared (and wiped clean) before another set of guests arrived and were seated. The husband ordered the Three Sisters burger w/cheese and a side of onion rings; I ordered the chicken salad wrap and onion rings. First off, we agreed the onion rings were fabulous. Top notch; probably one of us should'a ordered the fries just to try those too, but when someone tells us the onion rings are good we hone in on that. The hamburger was good, the chicken salad wrap was good. Husband didn't eat a large portion of the hamburger bun as the hamburger was noticeably smaller than the buns. Perhaps try smaller buns? I am glad I ordered the chicken salad wrap as it was good, not great. There was some small something missing though and I can't put my finger on it. Something with a kick like mustard, or a pickled diced banana pepper??? Some zinger that would take it over the top. Generous parking lot, excellently maintained bathrooms, along with easy on/off Highway 165.

Yelp
The food was delicious! Our table had pancakes (which are huge), chicken fried steak and huevos, all of it was excellent. If we are ever traveling through this area again we will make sure to stop here for a meal.

Honesty R.

Yelp
Great and accommodating service! The food was delicious and big portions, so come in with an appetite. We ordered *Three sisters burger and fries, *beer battered onion rings, *steak salad, and *relleno burger and fries. Everything was enjoyed and if it couldn't make it into our bellies we had to take it home! They do not have outdoor seating for dogs. There are tables/ branches that you can use to eat after ordering to-go. This will definitely be a stop for when we're traveling through! It's right off the highway, so it's super convenient.

George T.

Yelp
Great service prompt and quick food! Plus the meal was terrific. Great layout and decorations.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere! Had to get the slopper burger!.wonderful place to stop for lunch after staying in Hillside Cottages for the weekend!

Yelp
The huevos rancheros were very good. The Pork Green Chili had a very authentic flavor. The service was excellent, even though they were very busy they made sure the coffee was always hot and full. Classic country music in the background. Highly recommend Three Sisters

Yelp
We love stopping here on our way through. I love the greenhorn slopper! Can't say enough about their hamburgers. The meat is amazing. Not sure if they ground it themselves. Best burger in the state and big. Always served with a ton of crispy fries! The service is always top notch and we love the log cabin feel of the place.asked the waitress and she said the beef comes right off the ranch from one of the sisters. You can't get that anywhere else.

Yelp
Great friendly spot. Food was delicious. Enjoyed the fried avocado, skinny fries, and Reuben.

Yelp
Well worth the 40-minute drive along unpaved roads following a beautiful hike in Pueblo Mountain Park (Beulah)! From the moment I opened the door, I was genuinely welcomed and treated as a gift to the restaurant. (My clients are gifts to my business and me. I want to feel appreciated when patronizing another.) A smile and a lighthearted greeting, followed by a curious request for my order, generous answers to a few questions about the menu (what's truly special here?), timely delivery of my meal, and a couple of unintrusive follow-up check-ins, and I got back on the washboarded road to my airbnb, nourished and satisfied. Thanks Three Sisters Tavern!

Yelp
Stopped in during a quick road-trip for a bite. Great atmosphere. The food and drinks were on point. We both ordered The Legend and the Tempura Avocado and it was so much food for the price and pretty tasty at that. The staff is 5 star friendly and super accommodating. I have always wanted to try this little place and am super glad we did. We will definitely stop by on our next trip through southern Colorado. I wish I would have gotten the servers name. She was phenomenal and had the best attitude I think I have ever encountered in a restaurant server!

Kathleen D.

Yelp
We were just there for takeout. My husband ordered a burger medium. He did not order a combo.. They charged us for a combo with fries which is not on my diet. They gave me a well done burger burned to a crisp on the outside. I am not pleased at all. I had to give my burger to the dog.

Yelp
My girlfriend's and I drove from El Paso, Texas to Keystone, CO and on our way we were hungry so we came across three sister's tavern and grill. It was such a cute, cozy, local restaurant, the service was exceptional. Our server was sooo friendly and helpful. We ordered the veggie BLT, the regular BLT, Mac and cheese, shrimp, and enchiladas.

Yelp
Absolutely the most expensive meal I have ever purchased, considering the price and how much food I actually swallowed.  And I was hungry!  First food I had in the last 10 hours driving in from Big Springs, Texas. May 13, 2024.  I ordered the $36.99 New York Strip.  Maybe my mistake because I ordered it rare ???? It came with a nice wedge of iceberg lettuce (cheap appetizer) and wonderful blue cheese dressing, right off the Sysco truck.  I ordered more dressing, like maybe 2 more plastic half filled tablespoon volume containers??? That's another tablespoon of Sysco Blue Cheese dressing.  Oh... I think maybe they were horrified. Then the steak... it was so full of gristle ....... all I could do is try various parts of it, then spit it out into the now empty plastic blue cheese dressing containers.  The ice cream scoop (literally) of potato salad was disgusting, and the vegetables were swimming in some gross sea of brown goo that was obviously just a bunch of fatty 'something'. I hate to hear what it was. Not even close to the pictures Three Sisters in Colorado City posted online how you will get simple fresh vegetables.  This was more like "take a pack out of the freezer, warm it in the microwave and throw some the butter basting oils we used to baste this steak.  Smash it all down and put it back in a pan of steak grease and serve it on the plate". It was like the difference between expecting fresh corn, and you get served Kuner's canned cream corn with leftover fatty goo.... room temperature. Ot even warm.  Barf!!   Embarrassing for his restaurant I'm sure, or at least I hope they are embarrassed! I would have made a big stink about my WHOLE meal if I wasn't there with my best friend from high school who lives in Colorado City and knows the owners. I literally never swallowed any of the steak, and had 4 mouthfuls of grisly steak I didn't swallow in those tiny plastic blue cheese dressing containers. I did tell our server I wanted an adjustment to my bill, so she gave me credit for my draft beer and reduced the bill another $5. After tax and a 20% tip (not the server's fault, this was all kitchen and management's fault) .... I paid over $40 for some iceberg lettuce, blue cheese dressing and a draft beer. Like I said before, I would have made a big stink over this crappy meal were it not for the fact I was there with a long time friend who was a regular at Three Sisters in Colorado City, Colorado. Getting a $37 steak that is inedible is disappointing. Getting 20% off on my meal I didn't eat is DISGUSTING!!.  They just didn't care that much..  That's my biggest complaint.  Bad food... whatever. Not caring more than 20% that I got bad food.. unacceptable. No pictures because I did not want to embarrass my friend from 55 years ago in high school.  But, I would have a bunch of pictures if I was there trying to eat this crappy food without regard to embarrassing anybody other than the staff at Three Sisters in Colorado City. I gave a reasonable score for service because our server was very nice to us.  I gave a high score to the atmosphere because the bathroom was clean.  I gave the very lowest score for the food because it fully deserved it.  A $37 steak I never swallowed a bite from.... Deserves the lowest score I can give it.  At least it wasn't raw chicken that might get me sick just by tasting it.

Yelp
Their breakfast was mediocre at best and the restaurant was way understaffed for the number of tables they sat. Took way too long to get food.
google avatar

Florence V.

Yelp
We came here for dinner upon the recommendation of one of the owners of Flower Aviation. She may have been a bit biased as this is her restaurant that she co-owns with her sisters. I am all for supporting small businesses so I was completely game for trying her restaurant. There were 3 of us and we asked to be seated at a table since there was a little wait for a booth, but not for a table. The menu is extensive and has something for everyone! We ordered the caprese salad. It's a little different from typical caprese salads, but it was super delicious. The grilled goat cheese that they serve is amazing!! After reading all our options, all 3 of us decided on the pork and avocado burrito, which was also smothered in their pork green chile made with Pueblo chiles. This burrito was so delicious and so filling too. The green chile had just the right kick and I could have eaten a gallon of their green chile!! If you're up for a quick drive from Pueblo, Three Sisters is worth the drive!

Yelp
We were driving up from Sante Fe to Denver and looking for a good place to eat. the waitress was so kind and the place was cute. the food was phenomenal! highly recommend if traveling and want to stop for some good food

Yelp
Still traveling with our Coach.... We arrived at Colorado City, Colorado. On the West side of the Hwy 25, we found The Three Sisters Tavern & Grill, to have a few drinks. Not sure what to expect.... ya know....."Something" along the Hwy.... But what a nice surprise. Amy, our Bartender, was very welcoming and promptly got our drinks for us. Amy, was full of conversation without being a bother. We enjoyed talking with her. The dining room was nicely decorated with a Western style, a fabulous fireplace, knotty pine ceiling and good Country Music was playing. Tough thing though..... it was 90+ degrees outside and the a/c wasn't working so well.... It was 80+ inside. Our drinks got warm pretty fast. But, one thing we did notice..... the glasses, on their hanging racks, over the bar, were spotless. No dust, no dirt, no fingerprints. Very nice!! We didn't eat... but what we spotted going across the tables smelled fabulous and was amazingly large portions. Yes, we would come back!! ..... we will eat next time.

Yelp
We are traveling through and decided to stop off at a place we've never been and the Three Sisters did NOT disappoint! We were seated instantly and they were able to accommodate our large party of 4 adults and 5 kids. They have very large portion sizes but the quality of the food is perfect for the price! Our group ordered The Legend with the green chili sauce and that was a favorite, the Avacado burger, the tacos and some kids meals. Access was easily accessible and they had a lot of parking room. You also got a beautiful view of the mountains from the parking lot! I highly recommend!

Greg L.

Yelp
Three Sisters has always been a great place to have a meal. But my experience, stopping in on Easter Sunday morning for breakfast inspired me to write a review. In today's world, exceptional service and a smile is more the exception than the rule. I've always had fast friendly service here. The music and atmosphere are great. Today's breakfast was one of my best. The food was fantastic (the French toast special hit the spot). The coffee was great. The service, exceptional. A great stop, just off the interstate and worth the drive from Pueblo or anywhere else nearby.

Rick J.

Yelp
Great food with great service. Good atmosphere and close to the mountains. A friendly place no matter what time of day

Joan S.

Yelp
Food and service were excellent! Worth the drive! Lily was my server, she is fantastic!!!!!!!

Yelp
Been meaning to come here for a while. No disappointment with anything. I had the apple chicken wrap - excellent. Wifey had the steak salad and she commented something about perfection. Others meals were great to include the pancakes. This place is a what you would of when considering a western restaurant. Aimee our waitress is a sweetheart. Honestly, can think of a single critique.

Yelp
What a great find. We were passing through Colorado City and decided to stop for breakfast. The food was delicious and even the Mexican green chili was authentic and flavorful. We will be back for sure. Our server was so friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Service was good and food even better. We had the plain Jane burger and it was good and very filling. The fries were really good! My husband had the chocolate shake and he said it was great!

Yelp
Tired and hungry from a long drive from Santa Fe NM heading to Denver CO and took a chance on this place found on Yelp. Everything we ordered was great from burgers, sandwiches and the steak salad that I forgot to ask server to omit the blue cheese and when it came to our table my husband saw there were blue cheese crumbles and he was like you don't like blue cheese, the server offered to correct the order that was my mistake which was very nice of her but I didn't want to be that person that take advantage of things just because. I told her its okay and politely declined the offer since it was my fault. I scraped off the blue cheese no biggie. The ambience was cozy and place was clean. Service was excellent.

Yelp
This food is to die for! Very tasty huge portions. My family ordered: Three sister burger and fries- burger was juice and the fries are crispy and addicting. Yelp
Great place to stop for breakfast. They are a little under staffed, but don't let that stop you. the waitress were fast and very friendly.

Yelp
This was my first time at Three Sisters Tavern & Grill is very nice, staff were very friendly and the food was good. I definitely will return very clean and plenty of TVs to watch this is a very nice place to eat.

Yelp
My fiancé and I found this place on the Roadtrippers app as a must-visit restaurant while traveling cross-country. HANDS DOWN WOULD RECOMMEND! The service was excellent, the location was scenic, the indoor atmosphere is that of a western saloon. This is a place you'd visit for a relaxed, yet high-quality local restaurant experience. The food is decently priced ($12-$20 per meal range), but the portions are generous. Neither of us finished our meals!
google avatar

Amanda A.

Yelp
Their green chilli is so good!!! We often go and order some to take home for breakfast burritos and such! The prices are good. And it is a cute little country bar.

Yelp
Food, service, and ambiance was great! Recommend the Reuben and the fries they were delish! My party of 6 enjoyed everything.
