The 15 Best Meals For Under $15 In SF

"This dim sum counter in the Outer Sunset makes some of our favorite steamed bao in the city—both the barbecue pork bun and the sweet, creamy egg custard bun are pillowy stunners—and they'll run you $3.40 for three. And even if you’re this close to starting a shrinky dink shop on Etsy as another source of income, you should still stock your fridge with a few bags of these to warm up later. Heads-up, it's cash-only." - julia chen 1, lani conway

Three Star Restaurant - Review - Sunset - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"When our internal body clocks tell us to re-stock our freezer with a borderline ridiculous amount of bao (this happens more often than you’d think), we listen - and head straight to Three Star Restaurant in the Sunset. Their fluffy egg yolk, char siu, and chicken-filled steamed bao are excellent - and we like to ask for them cold and take a few bags home to stick in the fridge and steam later. The dim sum spot also has hot food to go, like vegetable dishes, chow mein, and rice plates." - Julia Chen

I was in the area with a hungry stomach where I needed some breakfast. I passed by here so many times when it was the old place and when it is what it is now. Upon arrival, there was a line out the door, but that did not bother me since I am a very patient person. They offer many different delicious dim sum dishes such as siu mai, ha gow, steamed chicken feet, steamed spareribs and much more. Also they have a variety of steamed or bake buns like the famous pork bun. If you are really hungry they have a rice plate special where you can choose 3 entrees with steamed white rice for a fair cost. And next to their steamed table they have fried goods, eggrolls, fried shrimp puff, Chinese doughnut, etc. Lastly they have frozen foods where you can cook it at home. The staffs here are very welcoming, well trained and understanding where it made my visit a satisfying one. This place is cash and takeout only, so please plan accordingly and have some cash on you. I highly recommend this place to anyone on a limited time, to all Chinese food enthusiasts and if you just so happen to be in the area just like me. I definitely will be back to tryout the other delicious options they have to offer.

Google
Great place to get dim sum to go. Pretty much everything there is good. Kids really like their beef crepes. Also, must they their a little spicy fried chicken wings. The pace only take cash and line is usually pretty long, average wait is about 20-30mins. The place open pretty early 7a. Usually 1 or 2 people in-line before 8a.

Google
This is a typically Chinese food/dim sum takeout place. There’s always a line outside. I waited in line and got some dim sums. The foods and the prices were pretty decent compared to some popular dim sum restaurants. There’s a phone number posted for takeout. I tried the number several times on a Saturday but no answer. So if you planning to get food from this place be prepare to wait in-line.

Was driving by in the afternoon and wanted a snack. Have not been to this Chinese deli in years. Bought a chicken bun and egg yolk bun for a dollar each. These buns are a good size. Not fancy or gourmet. Perfect for afternoon snack! They carry many Chinese deli style items including dim sum. Staff wearing masks and lots of street parking.

CASH ONLY! Location: Parking is very limited, and there is no seating available at the restaurant. It's set up cafeteria-style, where you wait in line, place your order with the staff, and then pay. Food: The takeout dim sum here is quite good. I especially enjoyed the sticky rice and shumai. The prices are reasonable for the size of the dim sum pieces. Service: The service is very quick. There might be some language barriers, but you can always point to what you want. They package the food efficiently, getting you in and out quickly. Overall: If you have cash and are looking for a dim sum takeout place, this is a solid option!

Google
Yes, the dim sum is fresh and delicious (brought out fresh every 5 mins). Yes, there is a line (because it's fresh, delicious and affordable). Yes, it is a cash only place (hard to take credit cards with all those fees since the prices are super reasonable). Yes, we should tip here. Why do we tip at a coffee shop and not tip people that cook all day things that I couldn't even follow along to a YouTube on how to make the wrapper? Dim sum ain't easy. Yes, the locals here don't do reviews (thus the actual number of reviews for now) You will not regret trying the shumai, the shrimp dumpling and the chive dumpling (my go to). If you like good dim sum; leave your money here and leave with a full belly, and a large smile. I did.

Love the squash! The dim sums are nice too

Google
This place always has a long queue out the door each time I passed by so I decided today to give it a try. Ordered the typical siu mai, pork and chicken steamed buns, and some sort of cilantro shrimp dumpling. It's cash only, and the woman taking my order was rude. As to the food, the pork bun was tiny, the meat was dry, and the sauce overly sweet. The siu mai was okay as was the shrimp dumpling. The rest was only okay too.

Yelp
This is my new favorite dimsum to go. The line is a little bit long but it's totally worth the wait. The dumplings' skin is thinner. The quality of the dumplings is much better than other dimsum places. The ambiance is awesome. The servers are friendly and efficient. Highly recommended it.

Yelp
Came back for round 2! This time tried the fried chicken drumsticks -- thumbs down. They're big and tempting but lack flavor and taste like chicken that's about to go bad so they coat it with batter and fry it up. Fried fish -- I think this was $10/lb but honestly I have no idea because there are no prices posted. Again these taste like frozen chemically treated fish that they coated in batter and seasoning. I would not recommend. Tried the fried shrimp dumplings, which were also way too deep fried and lacked flavor. Also tried the fried pumpkin balls -- you would like this if you like a sweet dessert type of heavy fried mochi. Along with a bunch of other typical dim sum orders, somehow I spent $50! It's too easy to get carried away with ordering food here since prices are unclear there's a pressure to place your order quickly as the line is queuing impatiently.

Yelp
Short line when I go on the weekday. Their baked BBQ buns are the best. I have been to about 1/2 of dozen dim sum places and no one have more tastier BBQ buns. The place is clean and service is quick.

Yelp
Long line but moves. quality food and price. Fresh since their customer base is strong.

Yelp
Here we are again with a crazing for dim sum. My hubby and I got 4 orders. One sui Mai, one haw gow, one Hom sui qwok and one fried shrimp dumpling. Everything was on point.

Rosie L.

Yelp
I always come here for their plump and juicy siu mai. Shrimp dumpling are standard. Always a line during breakfast hours until 1pm.

Yelp
3.5 stars This dim sum takeout place is on our way to visit grandma, we first noticed it when we saw a line outside and decided to give it a try. This is a cash only place which offers a variety of dim sum and cooked dishes made fresh daily. Based on what we've tasted so far, I'd agree with the 3.5 rating; some of the items were pretty descent, a few others we didn't like it too much. Prices of the food appeared to be a little cheaper, service can be slow at times especially if only one lady taking order/packing food, hence the line. It obviously has quite a few loyal customers. Our repeat orders so far were Har-gow, siu-mai, daikon cake, chive dumplings, large and smaller baos. The congee was OK, Chinese tamale didn't have much taste nor fillings. Sticky rice balls, chow fun, fried dumplings were good/average as well. For the convenience, easy parking and freshness of the dim sum, we are glad that we found Three Star, will likely visit again.

Yelp
Solid, inexpensive, old school, dim sum. Go early in the day because they run out of stuff.

Yelp
Cash only. Closed every Monday. Low price therefore long line. Currently, $3.40 for 3 pieces of most dim sum. Lunch special is $7.50 for 2 items with rice - can't beat that. What's good: head their custard bao (steam style) is good (haven't tried yet), Their pan fried turnip cake is good (I tried and can contest), they have fried chestnut cake (which is rare).
google avatar

Yelp
Takeout only dim sum spot. Lines can be long and some people have large orders so patience is required. Reasonable street parking around the neighborhood. All the dim sum is decently done and good price performance

Yelp
Stopped by Three Stars yesterday since my husband wanted siu mai and a friend recommended me to try their fried glutinous meat dumpling saying it is the best. Arrived around 1130am and there is already a few people waiting in line outside the store. The Chinese ladies working there are very kind, possibly because I spoke Cantonese to them. The prices are indeed slightly cheaper than Mong Kok Dim Sum which is literally a block up. I thought the siu mai here is pretty good. Tasted similar to the dimsum restaurants. However, if I am to compare the quality of dimsum between Three Stars and Mong Kok Dim Sum, I still think Mong Kok Dim Sum is the winner. Mong Kok Dim Sum is tastier and less greasy. I felt full eating a few pieces of dim sum from Three Stars mainly because it is so oily. The fried glutinous meat dumpling is standard but Mong Kok makes them so much better and crispier. I finished two in a row for Mong Kok and still wanted more, whereas for Three Stars, I spend a good amount of time finishing one because there is so much glutinous dough. Their fried pumpkin ball is not that great either. Shrimp dumplings are lacking a bit of flavor. Overall, I would prefer Mong Kok Dim Sum over Three Stars, but Three Stars taste better than some other dimsum stores. Note: cash only

Yelp
A surprisingly overlooked restaurant. With 2 choices of Chinese lunch box at $7.50/each (was $6.95 late last year), one of a kind in the b area and why so few reviews? The Noriegans must hate me now. Fast, cheap and good. It's hitting 2 with possible short line depends. Dude, just go! Found this place from a local person that somehow gets on my wechat recommendation. I guess all Chinese foodies are somehow linked? Even more crazy. This Sunday, I was first eating in the restaurant across the street from this place, then when I check this local guy's wechat posting on Monday, I recognized he was sitting next to us because my BF's jacket shows up on his pic. I didn't know otherwise, I'm going to give him a big hug. Lunch boxes are the basic. If I make it this far, the special item would be: - Pork offals in spicy sauce. Cold and spicy and crunchy. Def. something a native Cantonese would love. - Pork ears, BF's favor for the weekend NFLs - Definitely the beef tendons (牛腩) with daikon. The pieces are so big that I have to cut them into 3-4 regular size pieces. It's the best to be added to any spicy ramen (especially the Chinese spicy instant ramens). OMG it's a bomb. Buy more if you are not from this area. Beef tendons are good for freezing and microwave whenever. Food has ended here and politic starts. It was a long line so while waiting, I was approached by this Chinese girl asking what's so good here with the line. Turned out she helps the guy next to her and who's running for SF mayor. I don't remember how we got to Chino Yang, the SF rapper who criticize London Breed in a rap song and was threatened to take down the song. I live here for over 20 years, this is the first time I've heard about someone is asked to take down a rap song, who is also a BLM supporter. And even better, the threaten conversation about if the song is not taken down then Yang's restaurant may catch fire was taped. Check it out if you are interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMQs8tURqbE

Yelp
Their dim sum is pretty good! Forgot to take pictures because I was very hungry, haha! Went here at around 12noon, luckily the line was short, but when I finished buying there was a long line in front of the store. They accept cash only, most of their dim sum and dishes are cold, that's why only three stars. Make sure you ask for fork

Yelp
This place have variety of Dim Sum and price is reasonable. I love shrimp dumplings, Shu Mai, sweet rice wrap, chicken buns and red bean buns.

Yelp
Had the WORST experience here at 9am on a Friday TLDR: speak canto if you want better service I usually go to Mongkok across the street but this place is newish so I decided to try it out. My gosh I did not know what I was getting into. To preface, I speak Cantonese and Mandarin both fluently, but my native dialect is Mandarin so by default I asked in Mandarin for the shrimp rolls and the lady said they didnt have any, only the ones with nothing in it. I thought that was weird since I could see a plate of rolls with a bright red filling (not shrimp but it was bright red). I then asked her then what's that one and she was like "oh yeah we have the cha siu rolls too" so I'm like okay whatever I guess they ran out. Since it was 2 customers inside at a time, the next customer came in, ordered after me, and I saw and heard the other lady go to the kitchen, yell out in Canto that theres a few left on a new tray and to bring out the last three plates of freshly steamed shrimp rolls for the other lady. But whatever by now my lady already packed my cha siu rolls so I just went with it. (edit after I ate it at home: super hard and obvious it's been sitting there for awhile) Next I ordered my jook in the small soup container and the lady tells me they dont sell it in small. like WHAT? You have the price and the boxes but you don't serve it in small...So now I'm so fed up with her since I could tell she was discriminating against me and asked her in CANTONESE why they have the prices and the boxes if they don't sell it in small? Then she looked at me as if she saw a ghost, and without saying anything proceeded to pack the small box of jook. This whole ordeal ended with her throwing my change on the counter and leaving my items on the counter without putting it in a bag until I asked. Lesson learned: you want good service? learn CANTO before you arrive LOL

Yelp
This nearby dim sum place has become our go to for quality and good value. the only downside is the grumpy and condescending staff and their allowance of people to cut in front of others. There is frequently a line outside this place even in the mid-afternoon. Most people are respectful of the queue, but at times (usually lols) cut in front pretending that they are just looking but instead they were sent by their family and order ahead of everyone else. They have been chastised by those in line however they seem immune and the restaurant staff allows this type of behavior. Most of the time the staff is courteous but if you get an older woman with short hair, be on your toes. She has no patience and if you don't know exactly what you want she rushes you and is condescending and tosses your change on the metal counter. That said, the dim sum is really good.

Yelp
Three star?? Dang, this place is 4-5 stars in my book!! Succulent dim sum on a warm Friday afternoon is like coming home to mama for me. Sui Mai and Taro root cake are my favs and this place does not disappoint. But the star of the show was the rice noodle. Warm and made fresh. This place rules. Cheap too!! Lunch for 4 was around 30 bucks. As Arnold says: "I'll be back!!"

April Y.

Yelp
Peanut joong (Zongzi) had peanut, lapcheung, salt pork and egg yolk. Not sure what other types they have; was to shy to ask/ can't speak or understand well. The lady was nice.

Yelp
Was driving by in the afternoon and wanted a snack. Have not been to this Chinese deli in years. Bought a chicken bun and egg yolk bun for a dollar each. These buns are a good size. Not fancy or gourmet. Perfect for afternoon snack! They carry many Chinese deli style items including dim sum. Staff wearing masks and lots of street parking.

Yelp
We spotted this place with a line the first time around, so I gotta go back and see what's up...turns out to be pretty legit dim sum! The shrimp dumplings were yum, pan fried chive dumplings were yum, even the pork dumplings aka sui mai were yum! Pictured in my review are the two mentioned plus the peanut dumpling and taro dumpling :) I also checked out their savory fried mochi - they are nice and puffy! I also saw that they had sticky rice balls, so I'll try that next time as well! Be sure to come early or you might have to wait in line!

Yelp
Very solid dim sum spot in the Sunset district. I always enjoy the food here and look forward to whenever my parents bring it over! You know it must be good when there is always a line out the door. Cash only

Yelp
There was a long and slow moving line to this place late Saturday morning, which made me think it was a good candidate for great dim sum. We got a steamed pork bun (my standard metric for dim sum comparison) and a sesame ball (because they were out of scallion pancakes). The pork bun was good, amply sized with light and fluffy pastry, and generally on par with the average dim sum specimen. The sesame bun was new to me. It had a crispy outside and a chewy inside, and a surprise (at least to me) of red bean paste in the middle. All in all, what I ate was fine, but not outstanding. Either I did not get the right items or the long line was attributable to really slow snd inefficient workers at the restaurant (the latter which at least appeared to be true).
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
I picked up a couple stuffed veggies earlier today and they were decent. But two pieces per order seemed a bit chintzy. Three stars kinda fits. They were one of very few open places today.

Yelp
Food over all it's good. Can't beat the price. Maybe that's why there's always a long line.

Yelp
Surprisingly good dim sum! This is a book that should not be judged by its cover. It looks like the typical restaurant, a very plain Jane with function over form. Tl:Dr jump to my picture and you'll see. The setup is straightforward and expected. The options seem standard too; you got your siu mai and shrimp dumplings. You got your fast casual hot items. You have your tables to dine leisurely. Look a little closer though. Try the food. Interesting. I haven't seen a corn and chicken dumpling before, so I'm curious. I gotta try it next time. I did try the usual assortment (Fig. 1). And as hinted, the skin on the dumplings was perfect!! The consistency was perfect and approved by long-time connoisseurs and the strictest of critics - family with decades of experience under their belts, or in their stomachs. As quoted, what jumps out at first is the consistency of the skin, but then we also noted that the shrimp filling was good as well. No excess junk. What was fun was that they noticed that I was taking pictures of my order for social media. What was a serious work mood that entire time with business as usual took a turn. The workers or managers then were amused, and the customers also quipped in English 'oh, a picture!' with a hint of understanding in their tone that it would go towards social media of some sort. I laughed and said yep. Oh yeah, price is good. The amount of chow mein you get for your $ is great too! All in all, it was a good experience.

Yelp
I always pass by and see that there's always a wait for this place! I always get their Shrimp dumplings which my boyfriend loves. Make sure to carry cash when coming here!
google avatar

Misha T.

Yelp
There was a line out the door which seemed like a good sign but I think it's just cause they're kind of slow. I got some shumai and har gow to go. The shumai are solid. No real complaints. The hargow are kind of mealy though. As the name would suggest, three stars is about right.
google avatar

Leung T.

Yelp
This is one of those low cost ubiquitous Chinese 2 or 3 items on rice places. Tax is included and they don't expect a tip. So the posted price is the price you pay; not 25% more. 2 items on rice is $5.75. One difference is this place has roast meats or 燒味. 2 kinds of roast meats on rice is $9.25. The roast meat quality is pretty good 4 Star. The rest of he food is 3 star and the place is 3 star.
google avatar

R K.

Yelp
Disappointment! Bought buns here twice. First visit there was very little filling in the cha siu baos (see pic). Decided to give them another try today and get breakfast on the run. Got the cha siu baos along with nai wong baos (3 for $3). One bite into one of each bun and they were dry and not even warm inside. The buns were left overs from previous day(s). Not sure if steaming them longer would have helped. Lesson learned, go too early and end up with old stuff. Oh how I miss the bakery at cafe bakery. They had the best (baked) bbq pork buns!
google avatar

Mimi T.

Yelp
Ok..their service is no nonsense. Don't expect the warm fuzzies from the ladies here. But the fried chicken alone is worth 5 stars! Always crispy, flavorful and juicy! There is a hint of five spice in the batter and the tender meat! The counter dishes are pretty good and the dim sum is much better than Monk Kok across the street. There is always a line here and moves painfully slow because most people come and buy 10+ items at once so be prepared to wait.

Allen Y.

Yelp
Super authentic, might be hard to order if you don't speak Cantonese but that's what makes the place so good. The Shrimp Dumpling (Ha Gow) and Beef Crepe (Cheurng Fun) are better than some Tea Houses. I would say this place the Sunset's best takeout Dim Sum place (quality rivals Good Luck Dim Sum in the Richmond and is noticeably cheaper).

Yelp
When planning for my party I went into the shop and the ladies kindly offered to let me sample anything I wanted and they had me try their favorites. I was pleasantly surprised how un-greasy the fried food were. Now the challenging part was ordering. They speak Cantonese and toisan. My Cantonese is not great so I was so happy that they have an English phone line. Sherlyn answered the phone,I placed my order and felt confident she got my order right. She was very easy to work with over the phone. I ordered three items, vegi spring rolls, shrimp puffs, and sweet sesame balls for a CNY event for 215 guests. They were packed in aluminum trays and covered with foil. The food was great and all the guests raved about how tasty and not greasy the fried foods were. They wanted to know where the food came from. I highly recommend them for fun party finger foods. I would order again. Cash only.

Yelp
This is my new go to place for dim sum. There steamed buns are the best. They charge 3 bao for $2.50. I usually pick up some plain and wheat one. Love putting one in a steamer and a cup of coffee/tea for breakfast on the go. This time I also bought half pound of eggplant in a soy/oyster sauce, turnip cakes ( the flavor was very good and about 60% larger than other places ). vegetables pork bun( very tasty without the heavy oil tasting), steamed rice pasta and a few other items. The ladies usually weighs the items and then put another scoop into the container before closing it. This is catty corner from Mongkok Dim Sum. I feel that their goods are better than Mongkok. I use to go get my dim sum from Mongkok until I realized that they were ripping me off by overcharging. I usually order the exact same item and she would pretend to counting up and everyt timeshe would give a higher price. If you buy items that are weighted she would rip you off. I do not think she rips off the older Chinese that patronize her. I feel that she rips off mostly the younger crowd that are more carefree and the ABC. I did question her she hurried and move to the next customer and ignores you. I feel that this new place Three Stars restaurant across the street will take many of her customers.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time when my buddy picked up dim sum for us for a GGP picnic and I was impressed! I couldn't believe it when he said he was in line that wrapped around the corner of the street and he waited almost half an hour on a Sunday morning even with 3 ladies working to take orders! Fortunately, the dim sum was very very good! Sometimes these takeout dim sum places are hit or miss but this was definitely a hit. My gauge for a good takeout dim sum place are my go to items: har gow, siu mai and the shrimp rice noodle roll (Cheung fun). Most places can't get the rice noodle roll right because the skin is often too thick and the shrimps are too small. But theirs is a thinner skin and the shrimps are quite big! Bingo! The har gow had good shrimp flavor and the skin is slightly too thick but still acceptable. The siu mai was also tasty. The highlight of my meal was actually their fried goodies: meat dumpling, pumpkin ball and sesame ball. All 3 were sooooo yummy and crispy! I would definitely come back here again if i don't want to go to my usual takeout dim sum joints on Clement St!

Yelp
No frills take out dim sum and deli. There's always a line no matter what time of day. I usually try to go early in the morning before 9am and the wait is still 15-20 min long. My husband's and son's favorites are sui mai, ha gow, steamed BBQ pork buns, steamed pork and veggie buns, chow fun and wrapped sticky rice. The ladies working inside are efficient and keep the line moving. Wouldn't say it's the best dim sum but it's probably the best in the area for take out. Cash only.

Cal L.

Yelp
Don't see why this hole in the wall dim sum place gets long lines, but everyone has their likings. Myself I decided to try it for a few typical dim sum orders today. Firstly I agree with Lilian Z. who said if one speaks Cantonese that one will be served in a better manner. I don't speak any Chinese, the woman on duty was okay in taking my order. But she got so angry just because she said the total incorrectly (i.e. 'Eight $ instead of $18). I innocently gave her $8 (oh, yeah, they only accept cash...), but she slammed the register receipt on the glass counter to basically tell me that I'm cheating her out of $10 which I was not trying to do. Gee, no understanding on her part whatsoever! Apparently other reviewers have noted rudeness from the women who take orders here. That attitude doesn't cut it with me nowhere from anyone. No need to be racist or biased in any way to people who are trying to help your business!! They needn't worry as I'm not patronizing them anymore. And the dim sum was just okay. I did not care for the steamed pork bun as it was so tiny, the pork tasted dry, and worse the sauce was so sweet it was just too much to take. The shrimp dumpling and siu mai were okay. The cilantro meat dumpling with peanuts and chives tasted nasty: No flavor but some spice and peanuts, nothing less and nothing more. Prefer TC Pastry in Daly City better. And without the rudeness as well. Plus like another recent reviewer said, this place looks so filthy-not sure how they got a "Pass" on the health score.

Mindy L.

Yelp
This dim sum spot is severely underrated and deserves more attention. This is my family's new dim sum spot since the pandemic required closure of dim sum restaurants/tea houses! The food tastes pretty much like what you get at Hong Kong Lounge in Richmond. We ALWAYS order siu mai (and I normally do not like siu mai but this one is so good), sticky rice wraps, sesame balls, cha siu rice rolls, and my new found discovery/ love for pumpkin mantou! Super affordable and good quality and worth the wait in line!

J S.

Yelp
The place seems to be a hit based on the lines forming outside. So we decided to wait and see. The food presentation was sketch. I ordered the usual favorites of har gow, sui mai, and other dim sum favorites. The taste was bland and lacking in flavor. The prices were a cheaper than other places which might explain the long line. I would definitely recommend going elsewhere because it's nothing to brag about. The chow mein noodles and chow fun was oily and no taste. They use a minimum amount of green onions, carrots and bean sprouts. Basically a vegan delight with no meat. The place was small very dirty. The looks of the inside and the outside awning were filthy. The convenience of taking CASH ONLY means under reporting their fair share of taxes being paid to the Government?

Yelp
Food here is alright but I'm very disappointed in their professionalism. I ordered 2 servings of siu mai and 1 serving of har gao. Unbeknownst to me, the lady had packed 3 servings of siu mai and 2 servings of har gao, which ended up costing me an additional $6.40! Was it my fault for not double-checking while paying? Perhaps, but I felt very rushed and also did not expect daylight robbery like this. They also charge an extra $0.20 for soy sauce. With so many better-tasting dim sum options around, I would have to be be super desperate for food before returning here.

Yelp
They have the best dim sum in the Sunset district and that is why there is always a long line. Perhaps because it is always busy, the customer service is not as good as before.

Yelp
I probably go here at least once a week. There is always a line. Normally get them some things but I went late one afternoon about 4 PM, I asked the lady for a vegetable pork bun. The lady says she had them and she bagged them and when I got home, they were actually barbecue pork buns, which is not what I wanted. I went back the next morning and told the lady don't ever give me anything like that again and she says oh I must've picked up the wrong items. My wife likes this place and I do to, just don't bogart me and tell me you got stuff when you are all out

Yelp
They used to have no customers and I was sad for their business but they've upgraded their food and serve dim sum to go now. Best dim sum to go in the area. Go here instead of the other dim sum place on Noriega. It's a lot fresher. They also have more variety. Like pumpkin buns, Malaysia cake, the classics like ha gow, cheung fun, chasiu bao and they also have Taishanese style dim sum like the gows that have veggies, peanuts and dried shrimp. They speak taishanese and Cantonese and English

Yelp
Not a pleasant review for me to write. Asked for 2 pounds of chow mein in the late afternoon. The lady proceeded to pack around 2-1/2 pounds into a container (over-packing often has been the case in this establishment over the years). She said she would provide a discount to the order since it was late in the day. When my family proceeded to try it out a couple of hours later at home: there was a sour smell emanating from the takeout box. The same taste - of spoiled cooked food - came from the first bite. 2+ pounds of food in the trash. Hopefully I can provide a better review next time - if I'm willing to give it another try.

Yelp
Three Star Market has an history behind it. Bill, who was the meat manager at the behemoth Three Star Market at the corner of Noreiga and ? opened this eatery with an eye for making chinese roasties and cheap combos for lunch. (10 or 20 years ago). Bill prospered for a while, then retired. Three Star market didn't do as well. eats: white rice & 2 entrees (5.5) -entrees not labeled, knew them by heart: "fish maw, duck feet, broculli, curry with pork balls, stuffed tofu. all goodies u might find on a menu, seldom on a steam table. -excellent value, saltiness, msg low as was other flavors. very fulfilling. -boss lady doing the serving, served ,me when she could. one person ahead of me i understood my place in line, said ok. *scooped on the extra curry with my approvaj; -had curry porkballs, stuffed beancakes. long time no eat. homecoming to the 'hood! take outs: -fried rice, chow mein, chow fun extra, go with the basics, cheaper, get more home taste. -fab value. taste so so . 3.5 taste. 5.5 for lunch is unheard of now. food trucks? 10-12+.

Yelp
Great choices of Dim Sum and pre cooked food. Fresh and tasty. Great choice for the night I don't want to cook. Be patient since the line is long. Go early before food run out. Thinnest filled rice roll.

Yelp
Three Star is really two star with friendly service Nice place when you have the hankering for simple plate lunches with fairly good cheap eats. Not gourmet but simple and with what Cantonese appealing taste. Friendly server was kind and happy to serve us.

Yelp
Not a fancy spot but great prices and a good selection of entrees- including BBQ pork buns (my favorite). Not uncommon to see a line out the door, always a good sign.

Yelp
Should I give 3 stars to Three Stars Restaurant? I don't think so. I used to come here for lunch when I went to Lincoln High and ordered the fried rice to go. If memory serves me right, it was way way better back then and everything seemed fresh. Even their pork BBQ was tasty. Came here a few weeks ago with my kids after playing basketball at Sunset Rec and expected it to be the same. But just by looking at their food, everything looked stale and old. The fried rice (which used to be the bomb) looked like it's been sitting there for days collecting oil. I was shocked and awed...I was mortified. Needless to say, we went somewhere else. They should rename it One Star Restaurant; cuz that's what I'm giving you.
