Where to Drink Coffee on Seattle’s Eastside - Eater Seattle

"This small-batch roastery is a hidden gem amidst Park Lane’s boutiques and restaurants. A view of the coffee roasting process, an assortment of Alki Bakery pastries, and a classy, upscale ambience attract the laptop crowd and make the slightly high prices of the menu items more manageable." - Maggy Lehmicke

Google
Some of the best coffee I have had in Seattle in my 4 years coming here. Perfect balance. The Eggwich was also great. Only problem was the heating was turned on so high inside I had to sit outside, guess it keeps the coffee warm🤣

Google
Had a great little visit here while I was in town. The breakfast sandwich and cortado were great, and I ended up getting an iced latte for the road. Friendly staff and great vibes!

Their coffee is top-notch—expertly brewed with deep, rich flavors that make every sip a treat. Whether you’re grabbing a quick cup or settling in for some downtime, this place has you covered. Google
Decent coffee joint in the heart of kirkland. We got two hot beverages. Was decent not the best. Order was messed up in the first attempt but was quickly replaced. The food options were limited as well but looked good. Recommend this place if you are in the neighborhood

Google
This is my go-to coffee shop when I am in Kirkland. A laid-back, easy-going shop and excellent lattes. I would recommend you stop by and give them a try.

Google
We needed a place to avoid the rain and we found this nice spot. There are plenty of tables and seats to work or chat. There's a space or towards the back. The food is good and the coffee hits the spot. The walls are covered with drawings of portraits of random people and it's cool. Nice place we'll stop in again, for sure!

Google
Absolute gem! Walked through the rain in search of a coffee shop open at 8pm, and I made my way here after seeing it was open till 9! The staff were lovely, and were very helpful in making me feel comfortable very quickly. The lavender and honey latte was an absolute treat, and I would highly recommend it! As my first time exploring Kirkland and Seattle areas, and my first time in the States, I would gladly come here again during my next visit and during my stay here! Thank you so much for having me!

Google
I enjoyed there brew and experienced very friendly happy service from all! Nice selection of to go breakfast and bakery items. On a nice day there is comfortable seating outside. Parking is the only challenge, but generally early mornings are easier.

Yelp
We are regulars here since we love the beans. In fact, we buy the beans so we can enjoy the coffee at home Anytime we are in Kirkland, we order a mocha They have great alternative milks like oatmilk and hemp milk (my preference since it's thicker like regular milk). I also love that they have loose leaf tea since it is fresher and they have a great selection. They also make a great London Fog (earl grey tea latte made with milk). They have limited baked good and none of them are GF. They have a lot of seating indoor and a couple seats outside. They have 2 bathrooms and they are always clean Enjoy!!

Yelp
This place is underrated! They have the best lattes in the Eastside. The prices are better than most places too. They are open late which is perfect for students or an evening get together!

Yelp
4.5 Stars Cozy coffee shop in downtown Kirkland with plentiful seating and yummy drinks with beautiful microfoam ^___^ The pastry case had so many tantalizing looking sweets - cakes, pastries, bars, scones.... and the cold case had egg bites, acai bowls, parfaits, juices. Honey Lavender Latte ($6ish) and Vanilla Latte ($5ish) were both wonderful. I think the owner was there (kind looking gentleman with oval glasses) and he seems to really care about his business :)
google avatar

Yelp
Very long time want trying London Fog. Me and husband walking around decided trying. Cool atmosphere,a lot of table and people. Friendly staff, fast service. Overpriced but is not bad. First you think is strange taste but you do couple tries and is London fog is delicious. I am recommending

Yelp
Staying in Kirkland downtown. For business trip. I found this cozy and amazing coffee spot in Kirkland downtown. Barista know what she was doing and I was right about that. Order a sandwich and americano for kick-off my morning. It's an amazing place.

Yelp
parking: free street parking service: 10/10 very friendly and the coffee came out in a few mins what we ordered: vanilla latte ($7 with tip): maybe I just got a bad round, but I wasn't impressed with the coffee. the coffee flavor was mild but the ambiance made up for it main takeaway: it's easy to find a seat & not too loud. it's perfect place to converse with friends or to do some work on a laptop
google avatar

Yelp
I love Thruline! Anyone who has ever taken my order has been friendly to both me as well as my children. This is a kid friendly place- yummy treats as well as a free kids drink with adult drink purchase. It's also a great place to work. There always seems to be a handful of people working quietly on their computers at the tables.

Yelp
This is my retreat! When I need some me-time, to take a rest after a long walk, or just grab a coffee with friends, Thruline! I love everything about this cafe, including how big it is, the food and drinks, especially the people and the window seats. It's not one of those fancy or modern cafe, but that's what I love about it, too! It has its own character! I always feel very comfortable and relaxed in this cafe!
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
Nearly $15 for a small mediocre latte and this bottle of tasteless crap (see the picture), which was almost $9 by itself. The service was not worthy of mention. The ambiance was sterile, and not in a good way. I won't be back. Go somewhere else if you want a coffee.
google avatar

Yelp
Great coffee shop! The folks working are so lovely and helpful. The chai was so delicious. Their pastries all look so yummy. I had one of their blueberry muffins and it was delicious.
google avatar

Nena S.

Yelp
Great service! Their sandwiches are so good! Hits the spot every time! The cheesecake I'm obsessed with! And I think it's a raspberry cereal bar thing I can't remember but they are so good! I usually get their London fog or vanilla latte with oat milk! Both great! Love that they allow pets in there great vibe!
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of the few coffee shops open late so it's perfect to hangout or get some work done. Their coffee is really good. Espresso is smooth and consistently good. The staff is super friendly, especially Craig! He is awesome! Good job thruline

Yelp
Walked by and figured hey, why not, let's step inside. I mean there were so many people outside and coming and going it's got to be a good sign right? Well guess what, it was! If you're in the Kirkland area definitely stop by Thruline, the staff is very helpful and the coffee is absolutely delicious. I got an Iced vanilla soy latte and it was worth every penny. Pricing is moderate average for the area. They have plenty of seating indoors and outdoor. So go for it, go get yourself some coffee and a snack too! Yelp pro tip: if you check in there is a 10% off your order you can use while there, just show them I did and they honored it.

Yelp
Gross: This morning a guy brought in his small dog, on a leash. His female friend went and got a small cup with whipped cream for the dog. They then put the dog on top of their inside table so it could stand up there and eat the whipped cream from the bowl. A worker even came over to wipe off the table while this was happening, to the point of wiping around the dog's legs while greeting the people. In what world do dog owners think this is OK outside of their own home, and in what world does a business owner think this is OK? I'm pretty sure the KingCo Health Department wouldn't say this was OK... And the floor around the bussing trays and recycling bins is nasty and gross with debris from people missing their targets. I get that happens, but why isn't it cleaned up regularly?

Yelp
Super cozy coffee shop in downtown Kirkland. Parking can be tricky but well worth it. The coffee is great and free refill too. I had the cinnamon honey latte which was perfect on a rainy Seattle Sunday morning. The shop can get pretty crowded. It has a "Friends" vibe to it. A wonderful hangout place.

Yelp
If there was a negative zero review I would use it. What appeared to be a manager grey hair and beard reprimanded a cashier that was helping us and striking a conversation. There were only 2 people behind us and we were just finishing our conversation with kind cashier! Shame on you for being so rude and unkind. Makes me wonder if you were this cruel based on the color of my skin! This happens 4/21/24 at 2pm! If that is the management please stay clear of this coffee shop!

Lee H.

Yelp
They "revamped" their food choices, removing savory items. Soi disappointing! Also, their Americanos seem bitter now -- hopefully it was just a off Barista (they too no time pulling the shot). Thruline Coffee -- you can do better! On the plus side, their Wi-Fi still is quite good. Also: they stopped carrying the Acai bowls! I thought it was just me, but two guys walked in while I was there also looking for them and then walked out because they're gone. Bring them back!

Yelp
I remember going to Thruline before COVID and it was a good experience! So while I was in downtown Kirkland for a bit, I decided to head in. The place has indoor and outdoor seating. I stayed inside. It wasn't that packed but it was around 7:30 pm on a Saturday. It seemed like an oasis in the midst of the really packed Park Lane. Indoor seating was mostly aligned next to the walls which were filled with photos. Like any cafe, it had coffee drinks plus different preparations (French press vs pour over vs drip etc.) it also sold bags of coffee beans. It also had non-coffee options like your typical London fog and chai tea. Not seen in the photos is the fact they had a special menu for more summery drinks like iced teas. I had an iced tea which I believed was a pomegranate flavor. They offered one free refill which I thought was great. I think this place is especially great to grab a drink while waiting for your lunch/dinner reservation for another restaurant on Park Lane. I think it is also a great place to do work on a laptop or read a book if you are solo. Note: they used to be called by a different name and they mention it on their website and the storefront. Their website (which sells coffee beans) also links to their old Instagram and not the new one

Yelp
I ordered the Vanilla Cinnamon latte that was one of their specials. TBH I wasn't too impressed with it. Given the glorious reviews, I was expecting a bit more. Also I wouldn't have known for these specials if I hadn't read the reviews beforehand. It was handwritten on a tiny obscure chalkboard next to the checkout machine. The pricing was comparable to other specialty places and definitely pricier than Starbucks. There was a nice nook where I could sit and have my coffee. Oh and checking in on Yelp gives you 10% off which was nice. There isn't much free parking around so you might need to park at the lot across the Sirena Gelato. Parking over there is a dollar for the first hour.

Yelp
Got a quick mocha while going through Kirkland from Thruline. The cafe was very cute and has a great history to it. The coffee was good too!

Yelp
This is the CUTEST little coffee shop right in downtown Kirkland. Not that Kirkland is thaaaat huge, but being here gives you such a small town, cozy feel. I stopped by here to get some work done before an Elite Event nearby. I went in around 6, so there weren't too many people and plenty of seating options. I chose to sit in the little alcove in the window which is the BEST seat in the house, in my humble opinion. I got the Matcha Latte. It was delicious. Creamy, smooth, and not to sweet, it was the perfect choice to sip on while I was working. Definitely great for warming up, too! Highly recommend this shop even if it's just to get something to go.

Yelp
Best coffee i deattle. It will actually wake you up and tastes amazing. Espresso shake every morning. Craig is always super helpful and professional. Thanks for saving my jacket!
google avatar

Yelp
Came on a Wednesday evening and it wasn't too busy. If you're trying to get some work done, it's not the quietest cafe but not too loud to where you can't hear the person you're having a conversation with. Otherwise, the atmosphere was nice and the cafe is away from a busy street so it was nice walking there. I ordered a vanilla chai latte with caramel sauce and was kind of disappointed- I didn't know if their chai was on the spicy or sweet side so I added flavor just in case it was on the spicy side. But even with all the sweet added to the chai, it was still spicy and not in the pleasant way for a chai latte. The flavor took some getting used to but was just okay.

Yelp
I ordered my same old same old, and then saw the special! Honey cinnamon latte, delicious as it wasn't to sweet with lovely hint of goodness!
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly coffee shop, sometimes short staffed and manic, the drinks are well crafted and they get extra props for the free juice for your kid. Ample space to stay and enjoy your coffee. A great interior layout.

Enzo F.

Yelp
I asked for a mug for coffee and the cashier said they could make it happen even though they usually use paper cups. I gave them a $5 tip for their effort which cost more than the coffee. They made the coffee in a paper cup. When I asked them why they couldn't keep their promise the cashier said sorry the barrista ignored the instructions. Manager was right there and didn't correct the situation. Seems like new owners, this place used to be great.

Yelp
Thruline is a great local coffee shop! The staff are always nice and know how to get through a long line quickly. I like the lighting and how the shop is seemingly always bustling. I usually just get a drip for here, so I can't speak to the quality of the espresso drinks, but I can say that the cinnamon buns are delicious!
google avatar

Kapil D.

Yelp
Good coffee. Nice space. But really bad wifi. I really don't prefer a cafe with terrible wifi. It's the least that they can do for their customers. Very nice coffee makers behind the counter though.
google avatar

Yelp
Solid place for coffee in downtown Kirkland. Thruline/Rococo has a simple menu, featuring their small-batch coffee that they roast in-house. When in the area and in need of caffeine, I like to come here and support local instead of the Starbucks down the street. I usually only get an iced latte on the go, which is always nice. It has a strong coffee flavor, and I like that they put little milk with. There are also non-dairy milk alternatives offered here for a small fee. But if I wanna hang out inside, a strong cup of drip will not disappoint. Thruline's space is nice, as every time I've visited, there's always people working on their laptops here. Also, I do like that they're open until the evening unlike other cafes. Parking is fairly easy to find, with tons of street parking around and a paid lot nearby. It's also near the Kirkland Transit Center and is walking distance to several shops, dining options and businesses.

Yelp
Got an iced matcha. The powder they use is mixed with cane sugar so you can't change the sugar level, just something good to know. Unfortunately, I took two sips and threw it away which I NEVER do as it tasted like watered down matcha. A hint of flavor which also had that bitter end so I question what grade it is. Friend got an iced hazelnut latte with oat milk and while we both liked the flavor of the coffee, it was also mostly oat flavored with almost no hazelnut and the coffee strength just wasn't there. I had high hopes but I wouldn't return unless prompted.

Yelp
The store is very unique and local. You will find so many pics on the wall. I really wanna be one of them and being put on the wall. It will be sooo fun. Cuz I have never had one place to have a pic of me. The coffee is really local here as well. They marked as one of the local coffee shop. And I think it will be really nice.

Yelp
First time at Thruline, I stopped in for a business meeting. Ordered an iced americano and a breakfast burrito. The cashier was very friendly and answered all my questions. The coffee was good , very smooth. The burrito lacked salt, but was overall okay. I was a bit taken aback by the dress attire of a barista on staff. Although I am all for personal expression, I am not sure wearing a a crop top with no undergarments exposing under-breast is appropriate in this business setting.

Yelp
I get the feeling that this is the type of place that you either love it or you hate it! I'm in the middle! Went here based on reviews and other comments from friends (having avoided it for a long time), and I'm mostly on the fence. The staff are slow, and I agree with other comments, that they are not very conversational (which may come off as rude?). I've had a latte, and it was pretty decent, but not the best ever. The biscotti (which I think is from Alki bakery), was decent - I got the orange flavored one. There is a lot of seating space inside, mostly taken by people on laptops, or what appears to be people tutoring students... didn't feel like a nice relaxed vibe so I left pretty soon after sitting down. I guess it has a "trendy" "hip" vibe... still unsure about it though!
google avatar

Marielle J.

Yelp
Great space, friendly people, good coffee and pastries! Con: no plugs to plug in your laptop or computer so I recommend charging it before coming! They have pictures all around the cafe -- I never asked but I wonder who these people are. It's pretty cool! Everyone has a story. If you can't find parking near, I recommend parking at the library parking garage. They have a permit that's only permitted 5am-5pm. After that, its 4 hours free :)
google avatar

Teresa P.

Yelp
Very nice atmosphere. Lots of seating. The ham, egg and cheese sandwich I had was good. This place would be good for more purist type of espresso drinkers. Asked for a snickers but found just a few options. I did ask for a mocha which they did and it was good. Felt that was even a step outside of what they typically serve. Staff was friendly and the place seemed clean.

V H.

Yelp
Such friendly staff and delicious sandwiches + coffee! Great place to gather after a cycle class or during a morning walk.

Yelp
Finally tried Thruline this past weekend! I ordered an oat milk latte with pumpkin syrup. It wasn't as sweet as I would've preferred, but it was still pretty good. I think I'd order something different next time. I was a little disappointed to learn that their matcha and chai powders are pre-sweetened. Matcha is my go-to, but I like it natural instead of packed with a ton of sugar. That's okay, though -- I know that I can come to Thruline for a solid coffee. I also assume they have some yummy pastries (didn't try one, but they looked good). For me, what gives Thruline its high rating is the ambiance. This coffee shop has the exact vibes you want to just chill out, maybe get some work done, maybe read a book, maybe listen to a podcast... whatever suits you best. My boyfriend and I hung out at Thruline for awhile with our books and our coffees. We've tried to do the same at neighboring coffee shops, but they don't have the same ambiance as Thruline! This is a great coffee shop to come to if you want a good coffee and a good place to read or get some work done. I DO hope that one day they will switch over to natural matcha powder though :)

Yelp
Busy coffee shop right in the middle of downtown Kirkland not too much parking since it's on the main strip. They don't have too many choices but they're latte with solid and they had some great baked goods

K D.

Yelp
Coffee and service were excellent. I really liked the vibe in this place. A great place to spend a few hours if you needed to knock out some work in a great atmosphere.
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful atmosphere and staff. Their breakfast sandwiches are truly amazing I 100% recommended this spectacular cafe
google avatar

Amanda N.

Yelp
Wow this place is busy! The line to order on a weekend can get quite long. I tried an oat milk latte, but the drink seemed to be much more bitter than I've had at other coffee shops. There's a lot of space inside to sit and work and a few tables outside too.
google avatar

Alice L.

Yelp
Thruline has a wide menu, and the chai latte is very good. I also got the oat milk latte. There are plenty of people sitting outside. Sometimes there's even someone practicing guitar outside?
google avatar

Travis G.

Yelp
5 stars! Love this place, coffee and the area is a awesome retreat from busy Seattle life
google avatar

Tracy A.

Yelp
Disappointing. Heard good things, but I didn't see it or experience. It was a late Sunday afternoon, but there were plenty of customers inside. There was next to nothing in the bakery case. I got a valencia orange white chocolate biscotti, which I really liked. I got drip coffee. I like that it's a glass mug, and there's a refill; but the drip coffee is just sitting in dispensers off to the side. I got the French Roast first, which was lukewarm. I got a darker roast on the second fill, which at least was hotter, but it was a little bitter. Also, upon checking in on Yelp, an offer comes up for 10% off your entire order, however, they don't honor it. The barista explained that it's only for their beans at the airport. The offer doesn't say that, but someone should make an effort to get it fixed or else honor it.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in downtown Kirkland. Their coffee is great, they have lots of milk alternative, and some yummy treats. The best part is that my kid gets a free hot cocoa with my purchase and my dog a free puppuccino. They also have free wifi and a nice seating area which I used a lot when I was studying. On sunny days I love riding my bike and seating outside with a Thruline iced almond milk latte. The people who work there are great, I really have no complaints at all.
google avatar

Saurabh C.

Yelp
I had walked by this place many times when walking around downtown kirkland and decided today to try this coffee shop. There is definitely a lot of seating space at this quiet coffee shop and the menu options are simple. I agree with most reviews for this place that this place is very quiet and quaint but the staff is definitely not very chatty or engaging. I ordered a cappuccino and a London fog tea and both drinks were "okay". Nothing that would blow my mind away, the staff is very slow. I had to wait 15 min when I did not get my drink and went up to the counter, come to find out they forgot about my order The staff felt bad and apologized which is fine, I was hoping the drink would make up for it but it was alright. Definitely not a great first time impression. I don't think I will be back here since I could go to the corner Starbucks with a more lively vibe and outdoor seating as well.
google avatar

Nick J.

Yelp
I've been coming to Thruline for years, and consider myself a regular. They offer amazing coffee roasted on-sight, tasty pastries and a panini kitchen coming soon! The manager, Craig, and his skilled team of baristas greet many customers by name and craft fantastic beverages in a welcoming, unpretentious community environment. The cafe is filled with tables and chairs, and the walls are lined with pictures of regular customers, creating a laid back social atmosphere. Outdoor seating along Kirkland's quant Park Lane offers a perfect place to sip coffee with friends (two and four legged) and people watch. I've met many great people at Thruline that I now consider friends, and cannot imagine Kirkland without it. 5 Stars +

Yelp
Excellent coffee and Chai, nice atmosphere too. Convenient location in downtown Kirkland Washington. The service is also excellent
