ThunderCloud Subs

It’s extremely disappointing that every time I order double meat from this location, for a BLT, they do not put double meat. I have to ask them to make sure there’s double meat, because the bacon is small. The last time they even argued with me about how much it cost. This time, instead of eight slices, like it is supposed to come with, they only put four, which is a slap in the face. I even tipped online. The sign clearly says “double meat” is an option, and does not exclude bacon. They even put double meat on the big Paul without arguing with me, and I know for a fact that that’s a much bigger loss than eight slices of bacon. Pretty ridiculous, y’all.

Popped in for a quick (late) lunch and even though there was still a short line, it moved quickly. They had three employees working to make sandwiches and another individual working exclusively on “pick up” orders and other tasks. My sandwich was made quickly and it was just as I expected my Thundercloud to be; fresh and so good!

We arrived right at closing on 7.6.25 just as they were locking up. The guys were so accommodating and let us in and prepared our order efficiently. I was so impressed with how friendly and service oriented they were - cheerfully serving us even though it kept them a little late. Big thanks to them!!!

They did great with my sandwich!!! I’m very picky person so I get nervous for new places to try but this place is 10/10. Employee kept checking and make sure that everything that I wanted on the sandwich and it came out so perfect. Definitely recommend they are some sandwich masterssss!!!

Wonderful experience gettig lunch today. Logan is an exceptional & vibrant employee. The turkey club and tuna was excellent along with the recommendations for cookies. Highly recommend and will come back for the respectful & cheerful service.

Food was ready on time due to ordering pick up but once home and looking at the sandwich they did not get it right. I did not ask for tomatoes or onions and they add it. I even went back to look at the receipt for the order and it was there. No tomatoes and onions. They also didn't remove the pepper. No salt was added. Come on guys READ YOUR ORDERS! normally a good go to spot but this is disappointing

Only reason I gave 4 versus 5 stars is that the only thing I could think of while eating my sub was how much better it would taste if it was toasted. It was a great sub and they don’t have a mechanism to toast subs, just a microwave (I asked). I’m a sucker for a nice toasted bun and melted cheese on a sub, otherwise, the food was delicious, the staff super nice and helpful, there was plenty of clean tables and prices were better than most of your common chain restaurants. I sat on the patio outside which was nice as well.

I go here when I need to get away from the downtown area. I get the Austin Club. Mmmmm! It's my favorite sandwich. They should rename it "The Manwich of Austin " I should've taken photos of this manwich but I was so hungry. Ate it without haste. Employees were super friendly. They serve with a smile. They probably ate the manwich too. Thunder Cloud, I love your sandwiches.

I love me some Thundercloud! Try the greenBeLT. It's awesome! Made your way. Always add thunder sauce. Sandwiches made by cool people in a cool place.

The service at Thundercloud subs has always been friendly and laid back. I never feel rushed and appreciate the attentive service making sure that all the toppings & ingredients are added to my sandwich accurately.

I am at home right now. I live in Bastrop, I want a Turkey on whole wheat loaded right now. Maybe tomorrow I'll drive in to Austin and get me one. Been a loyal customer since 1974 and love their subs. They are always consistent and excellent. Subway can't hold a candle. They are disgusting out here. Please put a T-Cloud out here. Thank you, see you tomorrow.

Fresh ingredients. Not usually a fan of untoasted subs but this was one of the best I've had in Texas!

Very solid, relatively inexpensive sandwiches. Ask for an extra side of their thunder sauce. It's delicious!

One of my favorite local sandwich shops in Austin- they never disappoint. I always order the Office Favorite and it is consistently good! Many options of fresh items to add to your sandwich outside of the norm (ex: bean sprouts, sweet pickles, etc.). The staff are always friendly and provide quick, accurate service. There's usually cool music playing in the background and they sell art by local artists as well. Totally worth stopping in for a quick bite!

One of the best subs I have ever had! I ordered the Austin Club and it exceeded all expectations. The small sub was a great size for a quick lunch. Will definitely be back! Also had awesome friendly service!

If you need help building up your immune system this is your spot. The workers wear gloves and touch everything in sight transferring all kinds of gems everywhere. The server went to making the sandwich, to touching two fridges, back to my sandwich and straight to the iPad. It's dirty everywhere else inside. This place is a health hazard.

Don't go here unless you want your stomach to hurt. I threw away half my sandwich because it was grossing me out. My boyfriend finished his meatball sub and his stomach has hurt ever since. GROSS

Everyone else liked their sandwiches. The staff was nice. But I asked for a roast beef sandwich with mayo, not a heaping pile of mayonnaise sandwich with roast beef. It was gross, had to throw it away. No no no.

Consistent quality and service. The Cali club is my favorite. Online ordering is a quick option for lunch.

Fairy decent subs but not much creativity or exclusivity. The Italian was decent while the California club was tasty. Try the egg salad or Pastrami in a pinch. I think it's an Austin thing?

Awful customer service. Every time I order from here it is wrong and the employees could care less. I've had missing items in the order and it's always an issue when it comes to the drinks. They have drinks listed online that they don't actually have in store. Also, major rudeness from the employees... they are not patient and make you feel like an a-hole for correcting them when they did your order wrong. Awful service even more awful customer service. Do not support this location but good food. I'd be willing to drive the extra length to get a sub bc they are super good. I just will NOT be going back to the s Lamar location until their staff changes or they get better customer service!

The Turkish delight sandwich is delicious. I made then add cream cheese instead of hummus and it tasted pretty good. Service was great.

The sandwich was good. Customer service could have been better. The guy who took my order was not the most pleasant individual to interact with.

This location has turned into my favorite Thundercloud store, primarily because it's relatively close to my hangouts and the staff here do an awesome job in making a great sandwich and whatever your heart desires. I'm an extra-lettuce-n-onions-n-pepper guy, and they never fail to satisfy me here. The counters are slightly lower here so I can see them assembling their work of art. Never had a bad order here, and if someone does a really exceptional job I'll usually double my order and save one for the next day which keeps well in the fridge. They're generally really friendly and like to engage with the customer, and once in a while you'll get a good suggestion or two. Like on one recent visit Jen was making my Egg Salad sandwich (one of my faves). She goes on to explain how she loves egg salad too, but adds Nada Chicken to it to kick it up a notch. Hmmm, she got my wheels turnin', and I thought about it...... I do love their Nada Chicken (vegetarian) but haven't had a while.....OK! Jen's convinced me. let's do it. She was like "that's so cool - - trust me you'll love it" and sure enough, it was DA BOMB!! I went back 3x that week and ordered Jen's EggNada sandwich - - awww yeah it was off the hook! You can't beat their weekly specials, there are several sandwiches here that are awesome such as: NY Italian, Office Favorite, Nada Chicken, Pastrami, and Meatball just to name a few. Their bread is always fresh and I can't get enough of that Thundersauce! But trust me on that Jen's EggNada - - extra meat and protein is always a good thing.

Local sandwich shop complete with sandwich wizards that fit the South Austin vibe. Love the egg salad and the new turkish delight (turkey with all sorts of veggies, avocado spread and hummus or cream cheese). Nada chicken is great for the vegetarians. I like grabbing a sandwich here and then a soup from the Soup Peddler next door. Not exactly a cheap meal that way but - hey - soup and sandwich is always a good combo.

1: Phone order: wrong 2: online order: didn't get the order but charged me for it and getting refund was a pain. 3: went in to order and credit card machine didn't work. mall last 3 attempts failed and sucked. This place is a mess and ran poorly.

Walked in the restaurant, got in line, placed my order for my turkey sandwich on wheat. Had a nice conversation with the guy behind the counter. They had my favorite jalapeño chips. The bread was perfect. They loaded me up with onion. I'll say it was a great experience.

They are known for their sandwiches... but I tried their salads one day and now I get them multiple times a week. And I have gotten great customer service from them at the Lamar and the Guadalupe locations.

Here is how you do Thundercloud right .... 1. Approach the counter and advise the friendly sandwich artist that you would like the Austin Club. 2. Decide if you want the regular or large size sandwich - regular is big enough but if you are feeling really hungry go with the large (you can always save the rest for later) 3. Decide if you want provolone or American cheese - i go with provolone 4. Decide if you want it on white or wheat - i go with wheat 5. Then say yes to all the rest of the questions they ask 6. You will end up with the Austin Club all the way ... it's the bomb! Seriously - make it easy on yourself and follow my instructions. You will end up with a sandwich that if full of flavor and you will be back for more!

I went in close to 6pm on a Sunday evening. There was only one employee who was actually making sandwiches. Three people in one party were ordering ahead of me and two people waiting behind me. I stood there for about ten minutes before I finally gave up and went to Subway. It wasn't like the guys were ordering twenty sandwiches. So unbelievably slow, but that's nothing new for Thundercloud. On my way back from Subway, I noticed that the person behind me was just ordering. Worst/slowest service ever. I won't waste my time again. Oh, when I mentioned the poor service to the Subway employee, her response was, "Oh, we get a lot of their customers and they all have the same complaint." Save yourself some time and go anywhere else.

Wonderful service and the best sandwhiches in town! They have lots of extra toppings. My fav is the sprouts. Potato salad is killer too.

Ordered a Turkish Delight, with a few extras on it. The sub was VERY good. All ingredients were fresh. Having the option of hummus or cream cheese on my sandwich was a pleasant surprise attend delicious (I chose cream cheese by the way). Definitely will order again, and I tell anyone to try it. I wanted to try their smoothies but didn't, til next time.

My local thundercloud... Always been a T-cloud fan. I think the staff here are all super friendly and make as good a sandwich as any other location I've been to. keep up the good work!

T-Cloud rules barren earth. Believe it. New York Italian is my favorite. This location can get busy at lunch, but I think it's pretty convenient and they typically have quite a few stations so the line can move. Might be faster than the one further up Lamar by the Alamo Drafthouse.

I enjoyed the sandwich, the bread was soft and delicious, the ingredients were fresh and the people serving were eclectic and friendly. I'm a fan.

Multiple employees made racist remarks toward me and my family. I found a hair in my food and when I notified the establishment they laughed in my face. DO NOT EAT HERE!! Terrible people. No covid protocols in place. Saw the staff touch money, then continue to make sandwiches without washing their hands.

BY FAR my favorite place to get a sub, I've never had a bad experience here and if they have the broccoli cheese soup get it, it's amazing! My go to is a tuna but you won't be disappointed with whatever you decide.

This location was really great at taking safe precautions and the customer service was just spot on during a busy Saturday (thank you Jackie). Food was perfect (The Big Paul Sub) and I will absolutely return.

Thundercloud on South Lamar: the egg salad on my sandwich this afternoon was rancid. Hubby called and informed the manager, who said he would replace with another sandwich at another time. How goes the quality control there over on South Lamar? Should i chance it?

Hungry at lunchtime and craving a sandwich - I decided to give Thundercloud Subs a try (because they're in so many locations near me). Reviews were about a 4 so I though this would be extra tasty... but unfortunately, it was pretty plain. I would say they taste pretty on par with Subway and good for a quick bite, but definitely didn't curb my craving for a good, hearty sub. Excited they have sprouts and pepperoncinis as extras... but that's what they are - extras. So are bell pepper, jalapeños, cucumbers, olives and pickles and so on. Additionally disappointed that their choices of cheese consists of American or I think provolone (seriously, no cheddar?). Do yourself a favor, and hit the subway for a similar taste and price, without all the add ons or try another place.

I'm a huge fan of sandwiches. If I had to break down my single favorite food item, it'd undoubtedly be a sandwich. Pizza... newp. Sushi... no way. Bread and meat... hook me up! Thundercloud Subs definitely doesn't disappoint. I was in the mood for a 6 incher (keep your mind out of the gutter), so I ripped in there at about 1:00 pm on a Friday. I wouldn't recommend hitting this place from the southbound side of the street, because it's a pain in the ass trying to cross South Lamar. There was SO much traffic, I must have had my turn signal on for 5 full minutes. Once I finally did get a chance to turn left, everything was fine... but there were some near misses from oncoming cars that freaked me out a bit. One of the most notable things was their bread. It was fresh, soft and delish! I believe I used the squaw bread as the borders to contain my veggie delight (hummus, cream cheese, avocado, sprouts, cucumbers and more), and it ruled. Next time I'm in the hood, I wanna try the "Nada Chicken." It's a chickenless meat patty, and apparently, it's one of the best features on the menu.

Really solid, local sub shop. Big fan of the chicken salad here. And I love their super cheap sandwich specials. That being said, I almost knocked one star off for having the world's most annoying radio jingles. Every time I hear one, I want to drive my car into large objects like walls, oncoming traffic, the closest Thundercloud store, just to put me out of my misery. I have also turned off the radio, but it seems a very anticlimactic ending to the amount of violent hate those commercials engender in me. Great sandwich + worst ad campaign ever = conflicted feelings...but the stomach always wins!

This Thundercloud got all fancy. Well, fancy for a Thundercloud. The last time I was in here, it was about 2/3s the size. Now, they have expanded a little, and it feels a lot more light, open and clean. They are well staffed and seem to have a system down for keeping the line moving during the busy lunch rush. The service was friendly, quick and my sandwich was tasty. What else is there to say? It's a Thundercloud, and I love me some Thundersauce!

Thundercloud is extremely refreshing, healthy, and tasty. I hate how each individual ingredient is an extra $.25 while most sandwich shops (like Subway) will add these ingredients for free. However, the SPROUTS at Thundercloud make the sandwich absolutely amazing. Last time, I got a turkey sandwich with tomato, provolone, sprouts, and spicy mustard. I would have loved some cucumber, but alas...I did not want to pay extra. It was the perfect sandwich on a hot day after a walk around town lake!

This review is actually for the location off Anderson... All I gotta say is please don't run out of gluten free bread AND Thundersauce on the one day I come in for my bi-yearly Thundercloud visit. Not sure if I will ever come back to a TC, and that is sad because I have been eating TC since the very early 80's...

Why would I ever go to Subway? I won't. Same order every time. Two large specials on wheat with everything but tomatoes. This takes care of my lunch and dinner. I like some more than others, but this takes thinkng out of the equation and so far my routine has worked. Everything is fresh and the sprouts make the sandwich for me. Not something I ever buy in stores, but I get my fair share of them via TCloud. I like this location as opposed to others due to the employees. Their dialog doesn't seemed forced and they seem to actually care about what I say and how I answer their greeting questions. I also like the fact that these cats are as stoned as I am every time I go in. It leads to a free drink or chips on occasion. Sign up for their twitter and you will know the specials of the week. I am glad they are so close.

I cant believe no-one has written a review for this Thundercloud. By far the most awesome. I wish I knew the 2 girls names. Darn. O.k The redhead with the cute Bettie Page bangs and the tall blonde sweetie. You know who you are. I love when either of these lovely ladies makes my sandwich the sinfully delicious office favorite. I don't like to dog [arff-arff] on other places because I know what its like to be on the other end of the stick, but the other Thundercloud [by Alamo Drafthouse] sucks in my opinion. Funny that it pains me to say that, well with this being a reviews website. O.K back to the good stuff. Ladies, you rock. Always friendly, always jammin to some great tunes. I would crave these sandwiches when I didn't live in Texas. The S. Lamar location with it's small outdoor area, walk up service and drive-through has always been a favorite to me. I have noticed that the quality of my sandwich is always a little less than the way I like it though. I guess it lacks a bit of that extra special service where you can see them making the sandwich and ask for more/less of this or that. Nada Chicken with pickles and spicy mustard most the time. or Smoked Chicken with provolone if I'm feeling meaty.

Aaaahhhh....ssssoooo delicious. Your fresh ingredients and service are top notch. Y'all saved lunch for me today lol. Keep up the fantastic work

Whitney F. got me into the Veggie Delight awhile back, and now I probably have it at least once a week. I like this location - the staff are always friendly and have never messed up my order. Also, they seem to take care to make my sandwich so that it's not messy (I hate when all of the filling in your sandwich falls out in your lap when you take a bite). I've tried a couple of other sandwich options, which were also good, but the Veggie Delight is basically like crack to me now so I doubt I'll be branching out anytime soon.

This place hooks you up with great sandwiches and I appreciate that they have gluten free bread options.

It was one of those days. One of those super busy days. One of those days you may forget to eat unless some food is staring you in the face. It was this day today that Thundercloud was directly in front of me and it dawned on me that maybe I should eat now and so I ate. It might only be the 500th time I've eaten at Tcloud but it has also been a while. And guess what? I still order the exact sub as I did on my first visit. Turkey x 2 Small wheat roll Bacon Provolone Avocado L/T/O Thunder sauce That's it. That's what they do best. I am sated and carry on. It was over in a flash...

Thundercloud is absolutely the best sub shop in Austin. Don't consider Subway, Jimmy John's or anything else if you're in the mood for a sub. They even serve Boca chik'n patties for veggie lovers looking for a dash of protein and their service is hands down the best. All the workers are courteous and the service is very prompt. They also don't shy away from giving you suggestions if you're new to the place which I found very pleasant. Reasonable prices and high quality ingredients for a locally owned sandwich shop? No complaints. *Must try* - "Not a chicken" sandwich w/ Boca chik'n patties and a side of jalapeno chips. Best with a root beer.

NY Italian is so good! Make sure you get it with the Thunder sauce! Docking one star for forgetting to add the sauce despite me asking. No frills kinda place - there are a few seats inside and out. Small size sub is enough to fill you up and large would definitely be good for sharing.

So my bf & I showed up at 9:45 last night & google said they closed at 10.... but they were already closed & we can see the workers in there and we asked if they were still open & they literally ignored us and continued to talk to each other like SERIOUSLY if you're going to close at 9:45 then y'all should really update that on google. It's alittle ridiculous and I find it extremely lazy to close down shop early because it's a Saturday night. You guys are a business and should act like it.

This is no Subway people! Give me a California Club (Turkey, bacon, avocado, provolone cheese) Or Austin Club (the same with Roast Beef) Wheat bread, lettuce, tomatoe and dont forget the thundersauce! YUM! Deliscious! Love this place, advocado is always fresh and I especially love their cleanliness, the gloves they use to make your sandwhich are always taken off when the money is exchanged and replaced with a new pair for the next customer!
