ThunderCloud Subs

I’m new to Austin, so I almost always have no clue on where to get good food. However, I came to this place for the first time today and it surely won’t be the last! The sandwich was delicious and the veggies very fresh. I don’t remember the lady’s name working the register, but she was super friendly and polite. Surely a 10/10 for me!

It's been a little while since I've visited this location. Went in and ordered a club sub with potato salad. Maggie (cute girl) made my sandwich. She a made a sandwich that was tasty and flavorful. Also the cool guy with dark hair was also there. I've dealt with him several times before. He's always been nice and hospitable. Great location for food & service. There's also a new mural of Lake Travis on the wall. It seems to make the space in the store more expansive. I like the change. I liked the food and service even better!

California club, baby. Extra thunder sauce.. Way better than Subway! Hell I buy an extra sandwich for later. They need to bring Thundercloud sub to Bastrop

This is a thundercloud subs…. Don’t expect an amazing 10-15$ super fancy bla bla bla melt. This is the working man’s sandwich shop. The sandwiches are relatively simple but good. It won’t blow you away with flavor but it’ll leave you good and full for a reasonable price. The woman who served us Maddie was very friendly and charismatic, heck I’m coming back because she’s awesome but the staff seems cool too, the food was good enough for the price and overall if ya want a basic old fashioned sub or sandwich this is the place to go. Also forgot to mention had their corn and pepper soup and it was phenomenal, the soup is why I give it 5* instead of 4*. Overall don’t expect something amazing but it’ll be good enough and you’ll leave there full with a wallet that isn’t too much lighter

The subs are delicious, the employees are very nice, and I like how quirky the shop is overall!

There’s one thing we live by at the company I work for and it is to be the best partner in class you can be to those you work with as well as well to. The team that works at this location absolutely lives up to that. From when I walked into the door I felt nothing but positive energy and warm welcomes from everyone who was working. They welcomed me to Austin and intro’d me to ThunderCloud and even made the sandwich building a fun process. I will definitely be back here to check out the guys to say what’s up and get a dope sub. Thank you all!

Max puts more than just love into his work. He brings a level of grace and sophistication into his ham sandwiches that is too often overlooked. I would go as far as to say that max is an artist. And Maggie, who time and time again, renders me speechless with her profound outlook on life as she delicately crafts my order. This isn’t just a sub shop, and these aren’t just “sandwich makers”. It's a counter service sandwich shop. Totally not fancy. But the food is top quality at every location, and in Austin there are several. Their bread is a flavorful pillowly loaf on which the modest sandwich establishes its restorative slumber. Service is fast and respectful. I've been enjoying their food for 35 years and it's still one of my favorite Austin restaurants of any type!

I've been a fan of Thundercloud for years. This is my favorite location. I always get the best service. Super friendly like hanging out with a friend while they make you a sandwich. I almost want to visit when I'm not hungry. Lol. My favorite sandwich is the New York Italian. The peppers they use are marinated to perfection. The French bread is always like it just came out of the oven.

Had the opportunity to try this with a free voucher j got for donating blood. Staff was super helpful as I had never been here before. Got the Big Paul sub which was loaded with different meats and the server asked me for all the topics available. Even for a small the size was good and the sub was very good with very soft bread. Inside was small and no mind when I went but they had a cool mural from the book Where the Wild Things Are which was cool! All in all very good sandwich better than other sandwich shop chains in my opinion.

When you're in the mood for Subway but NOT Subway, Thundercloud Subs is the obvious answer. Granted, your level of enjoyment is directly proportional to how high the sandwich artist at the helm is at any given time, and yes, they always will be in varying degrees. That's just part of the charm; learn to embrace the thrill of the unknown. When it all goes right, you'll get a small loaf of soft bread stuffed with fresh veggies and a bit of protein. The big advantage here is that they have "nada chicken," AKA a plant based breaded patty for all your vegan needs. It'll be bland as hell served as is, but add avocado and all the seasonings and tell them to go heavy to fix that up right. It's not gourmet, it's not something to go wild about, but it serves a need [quite well at that] and I'm glad it exists.

Love going to thundercloud in general but I frequent this location due to my job. Never had a terribly bad experience, only once had one of the employees give me a bad attitude because I wasn't speaking up loud enough (it was really busy) but I go back either way because I love their tuna sandwich. Overall ambiance for me is very laid back nothing fancy.

All of the local Thundercloud Subs locations have good sandwiches with high quality ingredients.

Very hippy dippy austin vibes! I really like that they make the sandwich right in front of you. I got the veggie sandwich and I was not a fan. It really lacked flavor and I felt like I was pointlessly chewing. Maybe the other sandwiches are better but don't recommend the veggie one.

The vegetarian sub is one of the best if you're not a meat eater. The bread is fresh and sandwich is filling. Service is fast and friendly. Overall good experience. I usually order to go and pickup.

Great place to get lunch. The California club is the Californian that will always be welcome in Austin. Awesome service and great choice of chips.

Best tasting subs in Austin! You will not be disappointed with your visit there. My personal fav is the egg salad.

This sandwich shop is like going to the 80's and getting a sub. The staff was very friendly and worked very hard to get our orders taken and made quick and right. The Club sandwich was good and had lots of meat and toppings. Soup was also good. Fresh bread made in the shop.

Super friendly customer service !!!! The person helping me was so nice and they make the sandwich right in front of you, really good vibes. I was recommended the tuna, which I'm not a big turns person but I was adventurous that day. Turns out it was so good!!!! The bread is so yummy ! Highly rec :) and I'm not even a big sandwich person

There's been times in the past I had not the best experience here (first time working college students what can ya do it is what it is) but just had the absolute best experience-- didn't get his name, but he was friendly, thoughtful, and made a dynamite sando so just want to give whoever that employee was a kudos :-)

Didn't have a mask and wouldn't help me. Told me to go outside and call in. Then gave me a broken cup and were very rude, I guess for coming in without a mask. They said sorry man that's our cups for u. Here is a picture of the cup lol. I wonder if they did anything to my sandwich.

Small dining area with tables and chairs, same big menu, close enough to campus and associated housing and shopping to walk there. Friendly, efficient employees. They have several vegetarian options, and an array of meat options, all made to order on your choice of bun, right there in front of you by a young, hip Austinite. If you haven't found Thundercloud Subs yet, you gotta give them a try. An Austin tradition with locations all over town. Forget Subway (we have). This place is so much better.

Food is great, but the staff is even better. They are genuinely so kind and make an effort to get to know every customer. I've been going to Thunderclouds around town since I was a kid, but after moving by campus, this location became my go-to spot. Vibes are immaculate, and despite the name, this place always brightens my day. Thanks for being so rad and keep serving the best subs in town :)

Visited this location for lunch and was very pleased with my experience. From the time I ordered to getting my order handed to me was quick. This location is doing a great job filling call in orders and walk ups. I have gotten used to seeing all the tables and chairs cleared in similar places giving those who are waiting plenty of space. I smiled behind the mask I was wearing when I saw the wall of chips in boxes. Someone clever stacked the boxes and cut out giant letters to see what each box contains as for access. Oh and my order was fresh and fantastic. The bread almost hugged the inside keeping it all together as I enjoyed it in my vehicle while I watched the steady flow of satisfied customers come and go. Thanks for lunch. Keep up the good work.

What can I say, my friends suggested I should hit up this Sub Shop while in Austin for the weekend. All I have to say is, damn good New York Italian, and great people.

This is one of my favorite Thundercloud locations since it's right in my neighborhood. I'm also a big fan of the South Lamar loco, but this one's partial since it's a great quickie when I'm hungry and need to feed the mule (cuz the mule is plowing all day, you gotta make the mule happy - - feed and water it, ya know I"m sayin'?). There's always a special sub for sale, and this week was the All American (salami + ham + bologna + fixins). Large = $3.49, awww yeah. Gimme two cuz the mule will save one for lunch the next day. My other favorite subs are the California Club, Nada Chicken, and the Office Favorite (Egg Salad). Next day I say? Hells yeah, the subs keep well in the fridge overnight. The sandwich makers here (or artists?) are really good, and they make it the way you want it - - in my case it's extra onions + lettuce and pepper w/ thunder sauce and hot chili peppers too. These guys rock, always fast and friendly customer service, great quality ingredients, and very reasonably priced. You can make alotta mules happy by taking them here.

I ordered $20 of food from Thundercloud for lunch/dinner and had it delivered in an effort to keep myself+others safe during the COVID-19 shelter in place/quarantine crisis. YOU GUYS, I fished TWO LONG, CURLY, BLACK HAIRS out of my Cali club. Firstly, I have blonde, short, straight hair, secondly, proof is in the attached photos I snapped right before I fished them out, and lastly, in light of the current COVID19 crisis, this is SOOOOOO very very disturbing. #Dobetter Thundercloud.

Really friendly staff Mario and McKenzie made my day go from bad to good. Keep employees like them!!! Great sandwich picked up lunch for the whole family and everyone was satisfied.

Quick take out service and has always gotten my order perfect. The vegetarian sandwich is spot on-- the hummus and avocado are always super fresh and the sprouts are very worth getting! I do wish that they had longer hours...

I think this place is underrated. I had the Austin Club sub and it was pretty good and fresh.

Thundercloud is my favorite sub shop. I have eaten at many different locations over the past 20+ yrs and always a good experience.

Worst customer service. I went in to order and got ignored. Finally, because I was making eye contact with them, they called me over so I can order. The lady who was taking my order was speaking to her co workers(totally fine) but then decides to pull out her wallet from her BACK POCKET of her jeans. She then puts it back and continues making my sandwich. I asked her to make me a new one because she touched something that wasn't food and got the gloves dirty. Then when I go to pay, she is about to grab card with her gloves on. I ask her to take it off because I don't want my card to get greasy from her gloves. Like c'mon people, common sense. I will never order from here again.

There is no reason to go to Subway when Thundercloud Subs are in town. There are over 20 in town, I hear, and all of them serve fresh, delicious subs that come with spouts, guacamole, hummus, etc. I like how they have several vegetarian options, including a fake-chicken sub. The employees that work at this specific one are super, Austin-friendly. Right when I walked in the server asked if I was going to some art/party/show, casually like we were buddies, and then we started talking... and we know the same people from Denton!

I've eaten at my share of Quizno's and Subways, and Thundercloud definitely tastes fresher than both of those places. The employees are always friendly and the store always looks clean. And I love the fact that they have avocado to put on sandwiches. Can I give this place an extra star for that? Oh, and their carrot cake is like crack. I can't get enough. SO GOOD.

This is my favorite local subshop. It's a good reliable delicious sub spot and the people that all work here really make it an exceptional place to stop in for a lunch or after noon treat. I probabaly go in two or more times a week. Frito pie with chili, the Austin club and the specials are all amazing. Awesome place all around.

thundercloud is the best sandwich shop in austin. i've been coming here for as long as i've been coming to / living in austin. great staff everyone is so kind and sweet. the girl with the pink hair made a very good sandwich 10/10 would recommend to all my friends!!

I actually REALLY love their gluten free bread. The staff at this location was SO friendly and helpful when we stopped in for dinner last night. They were quick, smiling, asked "what we had been up to?" and made convo while making our subs. When we left my husband even said "it's amazing how a little bit of friendliness can make for such a good experience". Well done Guadalupe Thundercloud!

I've been eating at various Austin Thundercloud locations since the 90s so this review is long overdue. Over the hundreds of subs I've eaten here I can count on a one-fingered hand how many times I've had a poorly made sub (that's 1). Over time I've perfected my special sub and I'd like to share that here: the Nada Chicken, sized small, on wheat, with everything including cheddar, jalepeños, spicy mustard, and bacon. Yes. Add bacon. This might just be the best sandwich at TCloud with the Texas Tuna, Office Favorite, and Austin Club close behind. If you want a sub shop that consistently makes very good subs at a reasonable price, TCloud is for you.

My first time yeaaaaaah after keep passing by many many times by this place I always wanted to try some other sandwich after I see the commercial on Facebook about their chicken salad sandwich they got my application so I decide to have chicken salad sandwich for lunch on Friday on Guadalupe st is were I work almost every day as soon as I walk into the place I feel very welcomed by all the employees behind the bar they asked me what do I like to order and I see all the employees involve. In my needs That's amazing I place my order very easy since was my first time they offered to me all the condiments and I said yes I said yes to the special dressing that was good I proceed to the drink machine for me a coke and the price was reasonable. The sandwich was delicious I ordered a whole sandwich wheat that I enjoy great chicken salad guys you are the best on that. By the way all of you guys were nice and friendly compared to the other sandwich restaurants you know I can wait to see you guys again I do really recommend this place to any sandwich eaters. One of my favorite sub shops in Austin! It's very local, and you just can't beat the quality you get. My favorite subs include both the Italian and meatballs. I like to get my Italian sub with everything on it, sweet and spicy chilis, and extra thunder sauce. Also, the way they shred their lettuce here is something special. They sometimes run out of certain breads (white or wheat) by the evening, so make sure you come for lunch. They have different sub specials that change every so often, so be on the look out for those!

I've been a customer of Thundercloud since they opened the first store, and today I had the worst subs over all of that time. Truth is, they have steadily going down hill for quite a while, but today I quit. My order was two of their simplest offerings, the kind I think they do best - egg salad and avocado subs. They were skimpy on all of the ingredients, sloppily put together, and not a hint of the Thunder Sauce. The bread has never been good, more a hot dog bun than a sub baguette. It was a dismal offering, and please, don't blame the virus, but maybe because we weren't there watching it just didn't matter to whomever "made" the sandwiches. There are plenty of other options around, so go elsewhere, where they care about their product.

Seems like there are Thunderclouds everywhere nowadays, which I couldn't be happier about. But this one holds a special place in my heart bein so close to campus, where I've spent more than my fair share of time over the years. So what do I like about Thundercloud? The vegetarian options. Most sub shops have a single boring sub which for all practical purposes is one of their meat subs without the meat. Lame. But Thundercloud's got a few more options, and options are good... they've got the egg salad, the veggie delite and my personal favorites, the Nada Chicken and Nada Chicken Parmesan - made with delicious mock chicken products. And all Thundercloud locations have them, unlike Subway, which serves one veggie patty sandwich but not at every store.. Fuck Subway. Long live Thundercloud!!

Anytime I drive past a Thundercloud Sub store...which is about everyday...my ears start bleeding and I start moaning in pain, "ahhhhh...!" How can I even think about the food at TC when their horrible, night-mare-inducing, and cheesy-in-a-bad-way radio ad song keeps playing in my head? (sung in a 1985-esque goody-goody tone) "We're a whole lotta what you love about Austin...." AHHHHH! The nightmares are coming back! Seriously that song is a horrific creation that I hope no one claims to have written. Regarding the food....too bad it's booooooring and relatively expensive. Oh wait, maybe I'm talking about Subway....no that was Thundercloud. You know, I feel kinda bad trashing a local "Austin" chain....but the day they released that radio ad was the death of my loyalty. The service was nothing great, the bread seemed like a Sysco formerly frozen creation, and the veggies didn't taste fresh...major yawn fest. Yet another highly overrated Austin eatery.

Went to this location of my favorite local sub shop to grab a turkey sandwich before work one day. The lettuce was wilted and brownish. The bacon was was chewy. The turkey was a rolled up in a pre-measured amount, wrapped in paper and stacked up with tens of others like it. So much for fresh - ew. My cup of soup was obviously scraped from the bottom of the pot. Not only was my "broccoli cheddar" soup looking more like brown goo, but right after I got my cup, the sign was taken down from the menu board. It was burnt and gross. I like Thundercloud, but will not be coming back to this location.

If you've never been to ThunderCloud Subs, chances are you've heard their TV commercials or radio jingles. This place is pretty much your local sandwich shop, and I love a good sandwich. My favorite is the Turkey with all the toppings (lettuce, tomato, onions, mayo, mustard...and of course the Thunder sauce). The ordering process is similar to Subway, except the servers are faster at Thundercloud. Although the sandwiches are delicious, I do feel it is a little pricey, especially in a college area. However I understand that all their ingredients are fresh which I appreciate.

As far as Subs go this place is great. That being said...... they have the most obnoxious commercials on the radio, and I really wish they would stop.

So convenient and so many locations. I never feel guilty after I eat here. The office favorite (egg salad and bacon) and nada chicken sandwich are my faves. And the employees are also tasty.

Good, solid sandwiches. FAST service. A great stop if you need to grab lunch in a hurry. Neither the fanciest nor cleanest place, but you get a pretty good sub for a reasonable price, freshly made, and quick. California club: Turkey, avocado, bacon, lettuce/tomatoes/onions. Love the crunch added by the bacon. No usual chewy crap that other sandwich shops give ya. Seriously. I'm eating this sandwich right now and this bacon is YUMMY. Ended up being $6.70 including tax for an 8". I wish there was an option to toast the sandwiches! My only complaint: I'm a little scared to eat my sandwich because the girl making it wasn't wearing gloves...and the person who WAS wearing gloves ended up handling my money. Hm...

What Thundercloud sorely lacks in ambiance is more than compensated for by their yummy sammiches. Their California Club has taught me that bacon belongs on a sandwich! I don't know what they do with their red onions, but there is something about them that totally makes the sandwich. I also tried their nada chicken sandwich recently, and I'd have to give it some props...it's not the Burger King chicken sandwich, but Thundercloud was going for meatless. :-) Unfortunately I feel like their prices are a bit steep (a small sandwich meal will cost you over $7), but whenever I'm willing to make my tummy a happy place, I shell out. They also oftentimes have promotions on some sandwiches, which is a good way to get people hooked.

Came here just before closing time to get a sub. At no point did I come into contact with a non-stoned person. Four stars!

I always try to have a buy 1 sub get 1 free coupon when I go - they're always in coupon books they hand out on the drag among other places - so I can get 2 large subs for about $9 after a tip. I always get the california club on wheat - turkey, guacamole, bacon, cheese, and all the trimmings. The guacamole is always good, the bread always fresh, it's pretty consistent. They also have a good veggie sub. If you find yourself a coupon, definitely go, and if you don't, still go if you're not cheap like me.

I love this T Cloud! The employees are hilarious, yet attentive. The manager is awesome. They have a picture of Creek on the wall! Those of you who have ever worked on Guadalupe probably know him. Anyway, I always call my order in, and when I pick it up, they know me and say "Teri's here!" I like that. I am addicted to the Austin Club. This can't end well. What kind of weight am I gaining eating at least two of these a week? Yet, I can't stop. It's friggin' delish, man.

Amazing sandwiches! So much to choose from and everything looks and tastes so fresh! The soups are awesome too! The service is quick and the employees really know how to keep a good conversation

A solid sub sandwich is always delivered fast and energetically at this Thundercloud. There are many options and pricing is unbeatable. The place even has a weekly discounted featured sub. The ingredients are fresh, the people who work here are hit or miss (could easily catch them on an 'off' day or you could have the best server ever), the sandwiches are delicious, and it is quick to order and quick to receive! Nothing spectacular, but taste and quality for the price can't be beat. Also, it is an Austin chain with a quirky and nerdy advertising song...what more could you want for a fast-food sub shop in Austin? And since you are in an Austin joint, don't bother with decisions and simply order the Austin Club...amazing!!

Yummy and fast! The service was excellent today and I noticed they knew some of the customers by name! That says something about a local eatery that opened in 1975 in the year 2020! Give them a try and find something to love yourself.
