"This beacon of vegetarian gourmet cuisine proposes a set menu with six or eight courses that can also be vegan. The depth of flavour in the dishes such as "chioggia, radish, juneberry" or "king oyster mushroom, pumpkin, elderflower" is down to the technical prowess of the chef duo Paul Ivić and Florian Burtscher, as well as the fantastic quality of the ingredients, which are seasonal and locally sourced. There's a great selection of organic wines – alternatively, opt for one of the non-alcoholic beverage accompaniments. The waitstaff are warm and professional, and they always go about their work with a smile. The stylish decor incorporates modern design into a historical setting." - Michelin Inspector

How Vienna's Restaurants Are Helping It Become One of Europe's Greenest Cities

"At the bright, vegetarian Tian, a tasting-menu standout is the oven-braised local celeriac 'tartlets' filled with pear, celery, and juniper, all of which were grown within 40 miles. This approach helped the restaurant earn a Michelin Green Star for sustainable gastronomy last year."

Google
We heard about this 1-star Michelin restaurant that is fully vegetarian and can even be vegan if you choose. While in Vienna, it was among the highly anticipated restaurants on our list. We had an eight-course dinner. The flavors delighted your senses with each dish, and even though you saw the menu beforehand, tasting it in person was much better than just imagining the details of each course. Some vegetables used are usually strong and pungent, but the way the chef presents them makes them simply delicious. I can also confirm that you won't leave hungry after several small vegetable courses. In fact, you'll feel like you've eaten incredibly healthy during your vacation, for a change! I'm not vegan or vegetarian by any means, and I wouldn’t likely eat most of these veggies again on their own. But this dinner was incredibly flavorful and delicious, and I only wish all my veggie dishes could taste like this all the time. Highly recommend.

Google
We had a fantastic experience at TIAN. The way they brought new flavors and creativity to vegetarian dishes was truly impressive - everything we tried was absolutely delicious :) Out of the four Michelin-starred restaurants we’ve visited around the world, this one easily stands out as our TOP-1. The presentation was beautiful, the service was fast and at a very high level, and the location itself is excellent. We also loved the non-alcoholic pairing option Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience vegetarian cuisine at its finest

Google
We had the 8 course dinner paired with wine. The service was impeccable and staff very friendly. Each course blended different flavors to create a unique dining experience. The wine selections included several tasty Austrian whites with French and Spanish wines included as well. Perfect on a day when temperatures were in the 90s F. A very good value for the dining experience offered at Tian.

Google
My favorite vegetarian meal I’ve had. My girlfriend had the vegan option that was also incredible. Although not shown online, they have an extensive wine list and some digestifs for after dinner. The food was very thoughtful and really transitioned into the next course well. I thought the space had really cool lighting. The service was extraordinary and I was really happy with the wine recommendations. For 2 of us with a bottle of wine and 2 more drinks, it was about $700, which admittedly was a little pricey, but it was a beautiful experience and a great way to celebrate.

It was my second visit, but definitely not the last one! Amazing place with incredibly great food, charming staff and (still) the best non-alcohol drinks pairing in my life!

Google
Best vegetarian Michelin dinner you can probably find around the world. Very unique seasonal tasting menu, exceptional experience and service

Google
What an amazing experience! We had this place on our list even before confirming our trip to Vienna, and I’m so glad we went. I was a bit hesitant about the high price, but it’s absolutely worth it. A true once-in-a-lifetime experience! We chose the wine pairing and, again, totally worth it. We had the vegan menu, and every dish was a journey of texture and flavor. There are 8 courses (with the dessert course including three different desserts... pure dream!). The staff was incredibly kind, and the whole experience lasted about 3.5 hours. Unforgettable and highly recommended!

Google
For prices like these you expect one of the greatest meals of your life, and while some dishes excelled, we thought a few of the dishes lacked a bit in flavour. Service was excellent, there was a good range of wine by the glass, and staff did an excellent job of catering for a gluten free requests. The entire meal takes over 3 hours (which is not a criticism, it’s well paced) and while some of the course are tiny, you certainly won’t leave there hungry. But for these prices every dish needs to be exceptional and to our tastes, we thought too many of them came up short.

Yelp
Service was ok, food was nothing great. Carrots, radicchio root and pumpkin dishes were way undercooked. Radicchio root was inedible. Many dishes lacked flavor especially the pumpkin and carrots. Desserts were not rich or fulfilling. Save your money for a way better experience at one of the many other vegetarian/vegan restaurants in the area.

Yelp
Mixed feelings on this restaurant/experience. Had very high hopes. It was amazing to see vegetarian food at this level. The service was good but after our first course we seemed to have been forgotten, which was confirmed after a very lengthy wait and forgetting to serve us the second course completely. We did receive it after alerting the waiter so it was fine. All in all it was good. Probably we are just the few with that type of issue? The locals were all treated excellently.

Yelp
Pricey but worth it. One of the best meals I've ever been served. The food was delicious. The creativity and presentation enhanced the experience. Service was superb, we were able to relax between our 8 courses and take it all in. We didn't think we'd leave feeling as full as we did. Not just a meal, it's an experience. Come to NYC and open another location.

Yelp
Appropriate review for #2500 Dinner on our anniversary was celebrated at Tian. Having a Michelin Star Vegetarian restaurant was a no-brainer and they treated us right! Offering a set menu of 8 courses we opted in for the wine pairing and we were off Highlighting the seasonal vegetables of the area, we were treated to grains, root vegetables & did someone say truffle? Out of everything we had, what stood out for me was the homemade pasta with truffle in butter sauce. You'll have to try it for yourselves Wines were incredibly inventive & adventurous but totally hit the mark. So much so we made sure to get a rundown of everything we had before we left & the staff happily obliged Rundown: 2 sparkling wines; wine pairing 12 courses including amuse & surprises Takeaway packet of seeds to start our own gardens 4 hours €500 including tip

Yelp
This will be my destination restaurant every time I visit Vienna! It is difficult to find fine dining vegan experiences in Vienna, but Tian is that! We had a delicious fixed price shared dinner. Every dish was beautifully presented and so flavorful and delicious. We were so full that I had to take home the desserts and eat later - still beautiful and delicious! I would highly recommend, whether or not you are vegan!

Yelp
Nice ambiance with attentive staff, most of them are friendly. The meal had lots of variation with all different sorts of ingredients. I was able to have a vegan version which was nice. Loved the box of treats at the end with all sorts of creative sweet options. My only disappointment was the wine selection by the glass. They did not have a full bodied red and I had to settle for something I didn't really enjoy.

Yelp
I accidentally stumbled upon this restaurant. I loved the interior, and I had been walking the streets of Wien for awhile searching for a place to eat. After I walked in, I realized it was a Michelin restaurant but I had already asked for a table. I realized later that I had read stunning reviews about Tian but decided it was above my price range (I came here while on a solo Europe adventure). The service was excellent, as expected from a Michelin restaurant. Deciding that I was going to splurge and go for the full dining experience, I ordered the four course tasting menu. They first brought out bread with olive oil from Austria, Italy, and Croatia in small vials along with fresh sprouts. My favorite was the olive oil from Italy as it wasn't as bitter as the other oils. Each course was so aesthetically and palatably pleasing. It was the best vegetarian fine dining experience that I've ever had and overall such a memorable meal. Thank you, Tian, for a very lovely evening.

Yelp
We were excited to try this restaurant after all the meat we had been eating during our trip. This restaurant has one of those menus were it lists a couple of ingredients only so you are never really sure what you are getting. Every single dish had amazing flavor and we were blown away! Everyone was super friendly and helpful with our daughter. They were super great about our young daughter and the fact that we had no reservations. They saw that she was still tired from jetlagged and offered for her to lay down on the neighboring booth and gave her pillows and blankets. Our only complaint was that service got progressively slower as the the courses continued. Customers that came before us and after us all ended their meals at the same time as us. We will definitely be back though because the food was so memorable!!!

Yelp
I am not sure about this place. I'd give 5 stars to the idea of dedicating a restaurant to vegetarian/vegan cuisine. I'd give 4 stars to the décor, minimalistic and elegant. A few frills too many but all in all pleasant. I'd give 5 stars to the service, well informed and polite. They were also flexible in changing one item from the fixed menu. I'd give 4 stars to the food, creative and based on seasonal and local products (note: do not expect huge portions here, if you want to get full go somewhere else). I'd give 3 stars to the prices, I think way too high. Further random 3 stars observations: the waiter will come up to you with a basket containing 3 types of bread (each of which was pretty dry and bland) and asks you which one you would like to try. From a place like this I'd expect some fragrant, hot, self baked stuff. Some "shows" to impress customers are not necessary: e. g. presenting you an empty plate and pouring the soup out of a jug for you. The wash basin in the men's toilet is so plain kitsch! :-)) So not sure if I should give them 3, 4, 5 stars in total, I'll settle for 4.

Yelp
I don't always eat at Michelin starred restaurants, but when I do, they're 100% vegetarian. Sorry. That's not accurate. I just had to get that out of my system. I was ecstatic when I found out this place existed. I enjoy fine dining, but as a vegetarian, I often get shafted. This is especially true of places with tasting menus. For a three digit pricetag, I want artistry, not an afterthought. Tian did not disappoint in any way. The food was as interesting and as beautiful as you see in the pictures, and many of the twelve+ courses we tried were absolutely phenomenal. The sauerkraut and mushroom cannelloni dishes were my favorites, and my omnivore husband was blown away with how savory vegetarian food can be. We did laugh at ourselves over the cheese plate because we told our server we like strong cheeses forgetting that we come from the land of pasteurization. Strong cheese in Europe is on a whole other funk level. Service was just outstanding as is to be expected in a Michelin starred restaurant. What we didn't expect was such an affordable wine list. We enjoyed a bottle of 2005 blaufränkisch for ~40 euros, and there were other bottles that were even cheaper. I appreciate that kind of variety in a wine list. Aesthetically, the restaurant is also very pleasing. Our dinner at Tian was one of the high points of an excellent central European trip.

Yelp
Very interesting experience. Like any, I always compare to others I have had. I have not found a vegetarian high end restaurant like this before, so it was interesting to try. What I liked: - The effort in each meal. Beautiful plating. - Taste of each meal with or without the wine pairing. - Excellent service. Receptive to questions regarding how to go about eating the presented meal. - Decor was very pleasant and relaxing. The other side of the coin: - Price. I have been to many high end, exclusive, and experimental places in my time. This place is the most expensive, which surprised me. I wouldn't say they are overpriced as I enjoyed the experience. At some point you wonder why is it this high though. And this is where the cards are stacked against Tian for the cost argument. Even if the greens are organic, locally grown, wine imported from who knows where, and the location is in the 1st district, I just can't understand why the cost is this high. My conclusion is, because they can. I really enjoyed this experience and would recommend it to anyone. However, I would not return since it seems like a poor investment of this amount of money regardless of how much one earns. Arguably the most expensive restaurant in the city. - Email communication has no responses. I tried to organised something special and my emails were unanswered.

Yelp
There are times you pay for food and then there are are times that Art and food combine. This is one of those. And you can do all this while knowing that is good for you. Great Vegetarian and Vegan place
google avatar

Lidija F.

Yelp
What an experience! This is food art. Fun and clever combinations of tastes, textures... wow! I have been wondering about such high-end experiences from a vegetarian / vegan perspective. Tian does not miss a thing.

Hunter L.

Yelp
This is not Moosewood Collective-style vegetarian food but rather fine dining that just happens to be all-vegetable. The room is beautiful, the tables are spread far apart so that you feel like you're dining in private and the service is friendly, knowledgeable, witty and highly professional. We had the light three course lunch for 37 Euros and everything was delicious, inventive, complex and artfully arranged on the plate. Yes it's a bit of a splurge for lunch but considering the spectacular setting, the high level of service and the quality of the food, this was a splurge I was happy that we chose to make. My only minor complaint (and this happened at other restaurants in Vienna so maybe it is just par for the course there) is that there was a 4 Euro per person cover charge added on top (the bread and butter were outstanding though).
google avatar

Tim H.

Yelp
Great restaurant, with modern classy decor, and very high quality food. Service was very serious, but very good. I came here for lunch as they have a daily menu special of 2 or 3 courses that is less than 17 euro. Each day has a different main dish special. The herb risotto I had tasted like summer and spring should. The salad and soup starters were also very fresh and bursting with natural flavors. I can see how their menu might be pricey for dinner, but I would still think there is a good value there. This is as beautifully decorated as a restaurant can get as pictures of the dining room show. The WC downstairs was awesome as well. With fresh vegetables as the core ingredient to the cuisine, flavors are natural and I would consider them either fusion or modern European. This was one of the most positively surprising restaurants in terms of food and decor I have been to in a long time.

Yelp
recently i had the pleasure to discover this wonderful restaurant in the center of Vienna. The food waas not only creative and special it was exeptional good as well. I am not a vegetarian but I enjoyed every bite! The service was kind and smooth, I also have to mention that the ambiente was very modern and reminded me of a cool bar/restaurant I would find in New York City. They also have a small store and a bar downstairs with creative cocktails (haven't tryed them yet, but i am definitely intending to do so when summer and with it the season of out door bars is over!)

Yelp
Hands down, the best meal I have ever eaten. Probably the experience I enjoyed most about my time in Vienna. Well worth the price. All of the food was delicious and creative as well as elegantly presented. Better service than at any of the other Michelin-starred restaurants I have eaten at - admittedly, that is not a long list, but they genuinely seemed to want you to enjoy the experience at Tian and were in no way snobby. They picked our wines for us and they were delicious. We didn't do the wine pairing but they found something that considered our palate as well as what went with the food. I am actually shocked it was as easy as it was to get a reservation there on a Saturday night given the quality of the food, ambience, and service.

Yelp
Vegetarian heaven on Earth! I have eaten many cuisines in many different countries but I've to say Tian is one of the best vegetarian/vegan restaurants ever! The food was unique, colorful, very tasty & beautifully designed. The chef & his staff were amazing, restaurant ambiance was very welcoming! My husband, son and I decided to just walk in as we were tourists in Vienna visiting from Seattle. I did not see any reviews or read about this place before walking in and boy! We were totally blown away with their food & services! We were surprised few times with colorful & stunning dishes & we did not expect such excellent food & services! The chef & his team were kind enough to make nut free food for my son who has allergies. In the end, the chef spoke to us all and gave my son his autographed cooking book. It was a perfect end to our Vienna vacation! Thank you Tian team for making it a very special experience for us! I hope you guys open a vegetarian branch in Seattle!

Yelp
One of the best meals of my life. The vegan tasting menu is superb. From beginning to end everything was incredibly tasty, outstanding quality and locally sourced. The service was absolutely professional and the environment was very elegant, but perhaps more importantly, comfortable. I enjoyed the creativity and the pleasure of enjoying an 8 course meal during four hours on a very pleasant summer evening. The wine pairing were also perfect, and while I'm not a big fan of beer, pairing dessert with an Austrian beer worked pretty well. I used to like Austrian wine before, after Tian I would put it among my favorites. Tian definitely provides the experience of Vienna at its best. I know, it's pricy but worth every Euro.
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Michelin star well deserved. Lovely natural lighting and in-door garden ambiance. The food, unparalleled. For a non-vegetarian, I was completely satisfied. The purple rice risotto had just the right amount of creaminess, and oh my that oil they drizzle on top was absolute heaven! The gnocchi was also completely unique, soft on the inside with a slightly crispy exterior all in a pool of asparagus and tomato ambrosia. If this wasn't enough, the price was also unbeatable for a restaurant of this caliber. Would definitely come again next time I'm in Vienna!

Yelp
My husband and I went to Tian for my birthday, and it was a great birthday dinner! It is unfortunately not common with food this thought-through. It just feels so pure and fresh and that's really what you want for your food to be like. My husband had a menu (3 courses + little surprises) and I had a main course and dessert. With two glasses of wine we ended up paying little over 100 euros so it's not cheap, but not totally overpriced either. You get good products and the experience is a nice one. My creme brulee was fantastic, and my main course was flavour-wise awesome, but it was just too tiny of a portion. All in all it was fine because we had bread, the little surprises and dessert, but a main course for 23 euros should at least not fly away if someone sneezes (noone did sneeze, but you get my point). The other reason for not handing out a five is the 3 euro/person "gedeck", or cover charge. I mean, that's just cheap. So, for a special occasion I would definetely go back to Tian. A visit there also inspires you to cook "better" at home, using maybe fewer but more pure products. Enjoy your dinner!

P K.

Yelp
Fully vegetarian, vegan-friendly. This was the best meal I've had in Vienna and one of the best veg meals I've had in Europe. Service was excellent--pacing maybe a little leisurely, but it worked well for us, and the servers were available and attentive. The food was the real star, though. Creative, interesting combinations and uses of ingredients. Just enough inspiration from molecular gastronomy but not over-the-top or precious.
google avatar

Puay K.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place, but pacing was terrible, it took 3.5 hours to complete 8 courses. It could have easily taken 4 hours if we didn't tell the waiter to rush the last 3 courses. Service was horrendous, wine and water glasses were constantly empty. When someone left the table, napkins were not folded. Strangely enough the table next to us had theirs folded when they got up from their table. Maybe we just had an awful waiter, but overall service was lackluster and I don't sense the staff wanting to give diners a magical experience. Temperature control was non-existent, the restaurant got so warm that diners started stripping down (ties, jackets and sweaters). A lady sitting by one of the doors actually opened it, and left it ajar as the place became very stuffy. Food was solid, but with such high temperature I lost my appetite. I don't understand how with such poor service they could keep their Michelin star. I dislike leaving negative reviews, but I was very disappointed and feel like someone needs to provide a "buyers beware" warning.
google avatar

Yelp
Been there recently on a trip to visit some local friends. From my other reviews you can probably see that I'mnot a vegetarian - but this place rocks. Great service, delicious (and creative) food and all that right in a beautiful location!

Yelp
Who would have thought a vegetarian restaurant would make a go of it off the beaten path in Vienna, Austria? Known for schnitzel and other assorted meat by products, we had the distinct pleasure of finding this through our hotel (Ambassador BTW, quite good in its own right.) Not knowing the menu or what to expect the prix fix of four or six items was nothing short of incredible. Artistically served throughout the evening we remarked jokingly that (we'd have to stop and get a pizza afterward, the portions were rather small, lol.) What we didn't expect was the incredible service, the blend of flavors, the pairing of dishes, wine list was spectacular as well, but when a new dish arrived on a rather small artistic plates, we continued to be amazed by what we saw and what we ate. At the end of most dishes or near the beginning of the next one a small "gift" from the kitchen would arrive and the individual serving it would beam and say this is da da da with zing zing zing and hope you enjoy it very much. We've been around a few blocks in our lives and this was one, if not the best dining experience we've ever had. Not cheap, but absolutely top notch. Recently awarded their first Michelin Star this place deserves your attention if you love art, (because their food is art,) plus great service and food, you need to check this out. FANTASTIC,

Kelsey M.

Yelp
Delicious food, cool vibe, friendly staff. Vegetarians and non-vegetarians will enjoy the food. Will go back whenever I make it to Vienna!
