The Best Raw Oysters on the Half Shell in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"A brewery in East Portland might not be an obvious choice for oysters, but the Tidal Boar cart a.k.a. The Shuck Truck, one of Level Beer’s three onsite food options, delivers the briny goods. Raw oysters are shucked to order and served with mignonette and lemons. For a well-rounded experience, try the oyster flight, showcasing three different styles: classic, grilled with hot sauce and compound butter, and raw, dressed with smoked trout roe and Choi’s Kimchi gochugang sauce."

Shuck Portland Celebrates the Briniest Treat of the Pacific Northwest | Eater Portland

"A weeklong festival running from February 2 to 9, Shuck Portland celebrates Northwestern oysters while raising funds for restoration, education, and conservation; it offers a variety of events—including dinners, classes, parties and nine main events such as mezcal classes, a dinner by Vitaly Paley, and a conservation panel—and features contributing restaurants offering oyster specials whose proceeds also go to charity. The festival was founded by Maylin Chavez of Olympia Oyster Bar and Lyf Gildersleeve of Flying Fish Co., who enlisted friends including Tournant’s Jaret Foster and event producer Natalia Toral to raise awareness of the region’s oyster bounty. Proceeds benefit The Wetlands Conservancy and WEBS, and the event emphasizes oysters’ ecological role (Chavez notes oysters can filter up to 50 gallons of water a day). Shuck also gives guests a chance to meet the people who harvest oysters by hand, and the team plans to make it an annual event with possible smaller events throughout the year." - Alex Frane

Google
Got the 2 Piece Fish n Chips with a cup of Chowder. I went with spicy kimchi. Great breading on the fish and perfectly cooked chips. The spicy kimchi compliments perfectly. The chowder is perfectly creamy and seasoned just right. Super friendly staff. Happy to hit this place whenever I am hankering for a good fish’n’chips. Thank you!

Google
Stumbled upon this place in the neighborhood looking for a place to eat with our pup. The poke bowl was delicious!! Loved the fact that use sustainable and local ingredients. The fish and chips were phenomenal. Crispy flaky battered fish so delicious . Hefty portions too! I love raw oysters and can’t wait to try them at my next visit!

Google
Aw, shucks! This was a nice place to find virtually in our own backyard! In all honesty, our recent visit to Level Beer was actually motivated by my wife's desire for oysters, so in truth, the Shuck Truck was our intended destination; having a beer along with them was just an added bonus. We split a dozen oysters (three of each of the daily catch), plus my wife had the poke tuna bowl with coconut rice, while I ended up ordering an entrée from another cart in the parking lot. The oysters vanished in a heartbeat, chased by the delicious, albeit slightly "tasted-like-the-fish-was-flash-frozen" poke bowl, with that description being the only knock against an otherwise sweet, savory and umami dish. All of this, coupled with a fantastic indoor/outdoor venue perfect for warm spring and summer nights, ensures that the Tidal Boar Shuck Truck will be in our regular restaurant repertoire rotation!

Google
Tidal Boars is located in the space Level Beer has built out and shared with several food trucks. They do not disappoint. The quality of their oysters and all the offerings is just hard to beat even at the most upscale oyster bars in Portland. Certainly the menu is at price point you can't miss out on. We went mid day on a Friday and had a lovely time sitting in the outdoor seating, the ambience was peaceful and pleasant and we had some root beer from Level Beer as we were on the road with the baby. My wife had Poke and honestly I wish I could have taken everything on the menu to go, it was so hard to limit our choices. The staff The Shuck Truck are so friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. Anytime we're in the area, it's top of my list to repeat a visit. It's worth mentioning their philosophy of equitable pay. I wish more companies were following their example!

Google
I ordered the fried oysters and they were delicious. The cornmeal batter and cocktail sauce were unique, and the oysters are really fresh. Looking forward to trying more items on the menu

Google
Honestly yummy and not a bad price! The fritters are a must have. I love that they take care of their employees too. It's been ages since l had fish and chips due to the batter. Gluten free for the win!

Google
Fantastic! Be sure to check their website for the most up to date hours rather than depending on Google. Incredibly knowledgeable and friendly folks with a great menu with lots of local sourcing. The oysters on the half shell were perfectly presented - definitely some professionals shucking here! Mignonette is well balanced and a great pairing to the oysters. Pricing is fair for quality of locally sourced goods. Fish and Chips were delicious - great light breading and large pieces of tasty lingcod. The tartar sauce was delicious as was the kimchi! We will be back and are so pumped for their expanded hours!

Google
The Sunday specials were nice: $2 oysters & $3 fancied-up oysters (Tidal board). I was impressed with the quality. The poke was very small, but delicious.

Yelp
I was in the mood for some oysters on the half shell and this place popped up on search so I decided to give it a try. It did not disappoint, I got the half dozen oysters and they tasted great. There was no grimy or sandy taste when you ate them. I would highly recommend this place and I would definitely come back and try other things on the menu.

Yelp
Holy mother of god. This food truck is one of the best we've ever ordered food from!! We are in town for a convention and stopped at their truck on a whim last night, and now we are back again today because it's so fucking good. We ordered the surf 'n turf (half doz raw oysters plus a beer battered bratwurst), the ceviche and fish n chips...literally all of it made both of us shut our eyes and smile during the first bites. The portions are a really great size, the flavors are phenomenal, abd considering how fresh and well made everything is- the prices are great. THIS IS WORTH GETTING IF YOU ARE CRAVING SEAFOOD.

Yelp
Went back this year for ceviche. It's...different. Not bad, just a different take. It seems to have: thinly sliced red & green bell peppers, jicama, white nectarine (?), avocado, red onion, cilantro, white fish. No tomatoes. It tasted too salty to us, along with the salty chips, so we spooned the ceviche into a colander, reserving some orignal juice, placed it back in the juice after the rinse, & it was less salty. With the new service fee, it was $17.25, but came with a lot of tortilla chips.

Yelp
This place still kicks ass. I haven't been able to make it out here for awhile because of life stuff. But it was like no time had passed when I came back. Staff is super friendly, the food is still great, and the space is good too. They're doing things the right way here.

Yelp
Our family loves this place. The clam chowder and poke are so good. I'd take this chowder over Ivars or Mo's any day!! My kids had their first oyster here!! Ownership is great and really friendly. Will happily continue to support our favorite local seafood truck.

Yelp
The perfect paring for our cider & beers. We ordered the poke, ceviche & oysters! My favorite was the ceviche which paired well with Juanita chips! Absolutely delicious! Oysters are $3 each. Small oysters but tasty! Poke was great. I just didn't enjoy the coconut rice and sauce it paired with. I felt like too many flavors in one dish. The fish was fatty and tasted fresh. Try them out!

Yelp
It was ok I guess. I ordered the clam chowder. The celery was not cooked at all and crunchy. Not used to that. Had a little kick to it. The fries were damm good with some decent seasoning on them.

Debbie T.

Yelp
The fish and chips with spicy kimchi is amazing. The fish is super crispy on the outside yet very moist inside. Plus the tartar sauce with dill is delicious. Good fries and great kimchi. Spicy but not overly so. The fish is more England style that lets the fish shine and doesn't drown it in spices. A great plate I'll order again and again.

Yelp
Excellent quality food. Seasoned with care. We came specifically for this food truck and decided to grab some beers while we waited. Fresh and generous servings. Quality service and quality protein. Simple yet satisfying flavors. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
I came for a bite while grabbing a beer at Level Beer. The person working the cart was super friendly and quite knowledgeable about how to prepare seafood in a way to pair well with the beer that Level makes. I was quite impressed by their knowledge and conscientiousness. I got the Poké Bowl. It was super fresh and dressed with some fun radishes. The fish was silky and flavorful. The only thing I would change is I felt like it needed just a little acidity and sweetness to balance the strong flavors of the sambal ponzu sauce. Otherwise, it was delicious and hit the spot!

Yelp
Hands down some of the freshest and best seafood you can find in the area. Everyone that works at this food cart is very knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about the food they serve.

Yelp
Food truck, fresh, perfectly presented oysters on the half shell! I've been waiting for Dan&Louies to reopen when I discovered this food truck just south of Marine Dr just north of Airport Way on NE 148th. Clam chowder in a bread bowl is a nice touch. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Wow!! Just holy, wow! Dozen oysters - 2 diff kinds - super fresh and tasty! I've never had vinegar with my oysters but damn! It was amazing! Clam chowder was beyond tasty! I loved every nibble but what made this business even more outstanding was the PEOPLE! I don't live in Portland but when I visit my daughter again we'll surely be seeking Tidal Boar out.

Yelp
I have no words - seriously the best seafood food truck I've been to. I come for their oysters but always get lucky enough to try other things on their menu! Their poke is glorious - I mean come on, coconut rice?? Their bread bowls are also amazing! Great service and people behind the counter. Definitely recommend the visit!

Yelp
I had the chowder yesterday (yes, it's the season!!) And it's too die for. I suggest a bread bowl, if you are not counting carbs. Hands down, one of the best clam chowders in the country. I've tried different chowders from the east coast to the west coast. The owners are super cool too and they have a great menu. If you are dairy intolerant, I suggest one of their poke bowls. The oysters are super fresh too, if it are just looking for a snack.

Yelp
We had some DELICIOUS ceviche, and poke while chilling on the patio at Level Beer. The food is the highest quality, prepared with care, and delish!!!

Justin H.

Yelp
Very cool spot with fresh oysters (and a number of other food options) along with some very good beer! The oysters will continue to be our favorite!! We'll be back next time we're in Portland!!

Gary H.

Yelp
The pokey bowl was great, and I love the flavor of the chowder. The service was quick and friendly. Good job!

Yelp
THE BEST OYSTERS IN TOWN! I get something from here every time I come to Level. The couple that owns Tidal Boar are the sweetest too:) Everything they make is super fresh and tasty. We are so lucky to have them in the neighborhood. I would drive across town for their tasty wares
google avatar

Yelp
Oh my God the oysters are so good we got two different kinds and they taste so fresh. I also got the clam chowder bread bowl which was so delicious. Came to LEVEL BEER for FRESH BREWS and got delicious seafood, can't complain!

Pam S.

Yelp
Love this truck! Freshest oysters in Portland and their poke and chowder are divine. Go early and often. Perfectly paired with a Level beer.

Andrea L.

Yelp
We tried the crab and artichoke dip, the poke, and the clam chowder. Everything was delicious. Happy this is so close to us!
