Ties Lounge & Rooftop

During my short visit, someone recommended that I go here. One day as I was walking downtown I walked by and saw a lot of patrons outside at the rooftop bar. I was finally able to make it on my last night in Minneapolis. The night was beautiful but quite windy. This place is gorgeous on the inside, but I ate on the rooftop. The restaurant upstairs is called Northern Soul. My server told me it was their last weekend serving on the rooftop bar. I'm glad I was able to experience it. I'm pretty sure in the summer it's a great place to eat and socialize. I wanted to try the Half Smoked Chicken, but asked my server what she recommend. She suggested the Tennessee Hot Chicken Sandwich. That's something I would have never ordered. But I obliged and ordered it along with the Shrimp Hushpuppies and a Paloma. The drink and food came out really fast. Most likely because the place was half empty. Let me tell you, those Shrimp Hushpuppies are nothing short of AMAZING. I wish I can order a batch to be sent to me. They have some kernels of corn in them too 😋 The sandwich was really good, too. The bun was really soft. I was so engrossed in eating the hushpuppies that I let my potato wedges get cold, but they were still good. The Paloma was good, as well. Although the place was nearly empty (I believe the wind kept people away) I enjoyed the rooftop vibes. The music was nice and the views were great. If ever I'm in town again, I'll be back!

Love the atmosphere here! Fun people watching and chatting with other patrons. Great food too. The wings were delicious and had plenty of heat to them! I didn’t sit on the rooftop because it was way too hot outside. I would love to try the rooftop in the Fall with nicer weather.

Excellent space with something for everyone! Delicious menus options and awesome customer service! Highly recommend wings- Crispy delicious sauces! Incredible meatballs and pasta! Try some of everything!

Great atmosphere with spaces for everyone to come together. The food and drinks were delicious, I highly recommend the Parma from OG ZaZa. Looking forward to the rooftop opening when it’s nice out!

We went on a Sunday and they had Happy hour from 3-7. A live DJ was playing a little mix of old school music which added to the vibe. We ordered the fried oysters- it had a lot of breading but the oysters were decently big. We enjoyed the rooftop area and the multiple food options/menus to choose from!

Great atmosphere, food was fairly good, but not really impressed with anything food wise, good music, value was good. Empty on other other floors, rooftop had a nice crowd.

Came here for happy hour and also ordered dinner. Great happy hour wine, generous pours. Ordered shrimp scampi and cheese ravioli. We each thought it was some of the best we've had and the serving size was just right! Place has a youthful vibe, yet as older people we felt very welcome. Staff was friendly and service was great. We will definitely be back!

I enjoyed myself the three times I've crossed their threshold. The overall crowd seems a bit too young for me personally. I used to live down the street and I would walk by and see a karaoke night... which looked fun. They had a 40+ night and it was nice on the patio. It was overly crowded up there tho and I felt like for ppl over 40, you know you need more chairs for us to #SITDOWN we are over 40. LOLBVVS I went for a lunch date on the rooftop when it wasn't crowded and enjoyed the food, the view and a drink. Ambiance: Sometimes too young, but it's new, fresh, trendy, gives sports bar meets lounge vibes - which works for them. Food/Drink: Drinks are made well. The Bartenders know how to make a good drink. Period. The food menu is limited, but what they're making is decent. They could work on their wings and what they're making to make it great. Service: Not consistent. Not a fan of the security guards on staff. Over all, if there's an event there, I'd come back. I'd like to enjoy their rooftop in the summer again, but maybe just for drinks.

I had to give this full stars. Came here randomly on a Sunday Funday excursion and it couldn't have gone better. They have an amazing happy hour with $3 beers $4 claws.. etc. Just awesome for a day drinking experience. We sat up on the rooftop, not too many people just enough. They had music going nice and loud and the vibes were immaculate. I thought we were just going to drink but our waitress was so amazing we ended up staying for multiple rounds and even a shot and got wings and a pepperoni pizza. Uhhh.. IT WAS ALL AWESOME. The wings were flavorful, hot, well cooked and the sauce was great. The pizza was a shocker.. the crust was fresh, thin and crispy, the sauce was awesome, not too much at all and small pepperonis that were delicious. Perfect Sunday experience! Well be back

Came with a friend looking for a rooftop bar to hangout with and relax after work, unfortunately the rooftop bar had closed at 6pm and the patio closed at 9 which we were unaware as we weren't able to get off work sooner. Still sat down at a table inside, our server was fantastic, and very patient with us. Typical bar food, good drinks, just a much needed night watching Monday night football.

Highly recommend visiting the place! The staff were all incredibly friendly. We had drinks for the first couple hours and sat upstairs. I went through about 5 whiskey sours. They were not too strong, but good, we had some specialty drinks requested, not on the menu, of which the bartender made and that was nice to get a drink for my wife which she could handle. The place started hopping about 10 and has a great atmosphere. We didn't go on the roof because it was raining and cold. We finally ordered a pizza to share and it was incredible as well. Thin crunchy crust. I'm not sure what the mirror room was about but went in like everyone and so there it is. Huge Jenga was fun to watch and a little scary when they fell.

Subpar food, crowded rooftop, bored servers. Ended up here after we voted that a teammate choose a spot to chill after a long day of all of us on our feet, smiling, and looking pretty. We're having someone else choose a spot next time. We ordered two types of wings - Cajun dry rub and Apple Jack BBQ. Not horrible, not memorable. Would I order it again? Hmm, would I come here again? The servers looked so utterly bored being there. There's a difference between bored and busy, and they were busy, yes, but there was also a clear indifference to their facial expressions that had me constantly noticing and feeling sorry for them. One server was in a bikini outfit with fishnet stockings, and the expression on her face made me wish she was able to be somewhere she preferred, wearing something she probably preferred. I've been around bikini waitresses often enough and never had that reaction to them - it was simply the expression of absolute misery on her face that kept catching my attention. Maybe she was just having a bad night, who knows - but the expressions were, overall, across the board, bored. Tables were awkwardly spaced, with some requiring a bit of scooting sideways to even get to - and that's before the night wore on. Expect the rooftop to get even more crowded as the nightlife crowd joins. Dancing is my only drug, and I will happily move to the music until the sun comes up. It was amusing to see the dance floor become so flooded with bodies that several groups of newcomers gave up on trying to join the dance floor after multiple attempts once they got to the rooftop. I left at that point - I prefer to enjoy dancing when people aren't having trouble even moving around each other.

Someone recommended this restaurant to me while at a festival. I loved the location and views. Now to the food I was shocked being a southern girl seeing burnt hush puppies and cheetohs on Mac and cheese. However the sandwich had a pretty decent flavor I just feel like the size of the chicken was so small like two bites and it was done but still alot of bread and lettuce. Uhh I feel like the food needs a bit more work .

Brutal! All the best elements of a nice bar were thrown in the trash tonight. 1) Rooftop closed due to 'heat' at 9:30PM. LOL! 78 degrees is too hot? Grow a pair Minnesota. 2) Half of their draft beers unavailable 3) Beer and wine (not cheap) served in plastic cups 4) No food but kitchen had just closed - I'll take the hit on that for getting there just as closing 5) New server and both rounds took ten minutes to get

Terrible experience. We ordered food, and apparently the Vikings were having a party (on the rooftop) there so the security started kicking us out as we just got our pizza. He was very disrespectful and treated us like we were no one and that we were not supposed to be there. We asked them to help move our food down and they said "you can move it yourself" ... "you guys arnt Vikings? You can leave" .... Unreal. I will never eat at this restaurant again. Food is terrible as well.

I think the curse of this location is likely to continue. Happy hour is great, but the service is non-existent. I've eaten a few meals here and everything was pretty good, especially the Northern Soul stuff (recommend the brisket sliders). But we showed up at 5pm on the rooftop today--a Monday--and after 20 minutes and two waiters telling us that someone would be right with us, we left. This about matches the service I've had on my more recent visits where it's nearly impossible to get a second drink or a check. They don't even appear to be understaffed so I'm not sure I understand the issue.

Hands down some of the best wings i've ever had. The staff is pleasant and has tons of security which made my friends and family feel safe and welcomed. If you are looking for a place that has some good food, a variety of drinks and a fun nightlife vibe I recommend heading to Ties. I cannot wait for the rooftop to open up, definitely will see me there in the future!!!

Cute-ish place but definitely WAY overhyped. It's not as great as they make it seem. I ordered a double Tito's and received it in a small plastic cup. A plastic cup? Really? Yeah, no. My friends and I left right after that. Two stars for the great marketing and social media presence that they do to try to convince you to go.

Great food and awesome drinks but just the WORST service I've experienced living downtown for the last 5 years. Guys, I'm not kidding - go try it, dope rooftop but man, brutal service. Like 30 mins between drinks type deal. Hope they figure it out; best location on Nicolette.

Came to visit a friend for their bday. They had a table, went to the front to ask what the procedure was if someone had a table. Was told to go to side door, they called it the vip entrance. Did that and the guy working that door just asked me to wait. 10 minutes of waiting and no additional communication from that person, I texted my friends that I was leaving.

I have been looking for a new bar downtown for so long and I highly recommend this place. The food, the drinks and the employees are so amazing. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a good happy hour or a nice night on the town!

Brand new spot in downtown Minneapolis and the food was amazing. Freshly made with fresh ingredients every day and you can really tell! The variety of food is unlike anywhere else and can't imagine what it will be like once their rooftop kitchen is open

When going to this establishment you can expect a couple things, they will disrespect you and try and take your money. I went here after a Vikings game to have a good time with my friends and have a bite to eat. As soon as our food got to the table they asked us to leave because we were not a part of the Vikings team. I get I'm not a on the Vikings but as a paying customer I do not deserve to be thrown out before even eating my food. I left this place feeling disrespected and not value as a customer. One worker, a skinny security guard decided to try and be a tough guy and said "get the f*** out" I could not believe this. Very unprofessional and would not recommend this place to anyone.

All of these positive reviews must be fake as the employees are certainly not wonderful nor is the cleanliness or the food (meatballs, pizza, chicken wings). I'm not surprised to see health code violations. Do not waste your time or money visiting. Drinks are served in red Solo plastic cups, the rooftop bar has neither service nor the drinks listed on their menu. Bartender tried to offer me a liquid frose that was not frozen but suggested it might be "cold" from being in the cooler - it was not. For $17 I'd expect a bit more.

We came to this place on a whim and I couldn't be happier!! The rooftop bartenders are amazing and the staff are so nice. Drinks are affordable and food is good, I highly reccomend!!

Wanted to go to the rooftop for some drinks on a beautiful evening.....that didn't happen. We showed up around 9PM & they had a sign by the elevator advising that there was no service on the rooftop. Not a problem (yet). Went to the main bar, and had to wait over 15 minutes, when not even busy, to get the worst Moscow Mule we've ever had. After FINALLY getting our drinks, and While waiting for the elevator to takes to the rooftop, we were informed that the rooftop was actually closed. That would have been nice to know prior paying terrible drinks and wasting so much time. Not a good experience at all.

Very disappointed with the service. Went out there for brunch and waited for quite sometime to get served, Caucasian patrons that arrived after us were offered water and explanation for delay and eventually a server served them before us.

All the way from Texas to visit Ties Lounge and Rooftop as I had seen the hype from Facebook. It was absolutely amazing! The service, food and drinks were top notch. I have had several Old Fashions in my time and this one by far was THE BEST! Looking forward to the next visit!

Amazing place all around! The food is fantastic, and the drinks are delicious and flavorful. A wonderful hangout spot for friends and family. Great music as well, the rooftop is beautiful and the service is immaculate. Thank you Ties for the great time and the lasting memories. I'll be sure to return with my friends & colleagues

The dj on Wednesday for gay night SUCKS! If we wanted to hear old 1980 music and tec music we could of def went to the saloon. Thought this was black owned but still not for us

Was completely blown away upon visiting Ties! The atmosphere was so inviting and fun. Great drinks, great food and I love the ability to go to a different floor for a different vibe! Best hangout spot in Minneapolis!
