Boba Explained: Types of Bubble Tea, and How to Order | Eater

"A widely known chain that helped popularize the brown-sugar craze with milk-heavy drinks dramatically streaked with viscous brown-sugar syrup to form an eye-catching gradient and very sweet flavor profile." - Leslie Nguyen-Okwu

I don't think I'll be coming back if I can help it. Biggest complaint was I got the fried shumai and 2 of the 6 were frozen in the middle. Luckily they appeared to be precooked so no health issues. Chicken was delicious but they got my order wrong and it already took about 30 minutes while 1-2 employees were struggling through a rush so it wasn't worth waiting to try and have it fixed while I was already so hungry. I ordered it as a sandwich but was given only the chicken. Fries were good, you're given way too many however. Bubble tea was alright, they severely limit what options and customizations you're able to get on the drink when it's a combo which is a shame.

We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered here. I had the chocolate milk, milk, Boba tea it was iced, and it was so good very chocolatey creamy and rich. I was especially impressed with the waffle. It was delicious. My kids devoured it. And lastly, we had an eclair very very good. We were all very pleased and we will definitely be coming back.

Google
The Takoyaki here is simply delicious – perfectly soft on the inside, slightly crispy on the outside, and packed with flavor. I haven’t tried many of their milk teas yet, but I always order the Lychee Black Tea and it’s wonderfully refreshing and rich. I usually get 8 pieces of takoyaki with my lychee tea, and I have to say the combination is just perfect. I’ve ordered from here many times and I always look forward to coming back for their takoyaki!!!

Google
The strawberry puffs are absolutely delicious! They’re light, flaky, and filled with the perfect amount of sweet, fresh strawberry flavor. Every bite melts in your mouth and leaves you wanting more. You can really tell they use quality ingredients. Highly recommend trying them if you’re a fan of fruit pastries or just looking for a tasty treat!

Google
okay, so i’m not the type of person to write reviews at all, but i think this place is really poorly well handled, not only did i call and tell them that the milk they were serving for drinks KK200 and KK203 was spoiled (i placed diff orders) i first noticed when i was in the store that my drink was almost weird tasting, but i did not think anything of it first as i had thought the matcha was weird but when i got home and i saw the drinks (matcha and taro) had the same consistency and weird looking dots i finally realized that the taste and smell that the drink had was spoiled tasting/smelling like. and when i reached out to the place they had an attitude and immediately said that they check the milk always before using them, and i can’t say if that’s true or not bc i do not work there, but apart from that i wasn’t calling for a refund but more of a WARNING!!! before someone can get seriously ill from that! i have no problem of business making mistakes, cuz i myself work in one and i know people tend to make mistakes when theres a rush but theres not excuses made for this, if they really check the milk before using them, anyways i knew it was a little sketchy when i first saw the no refunds. it rlly shows how the business doesnt care abt their costumers and not even giving them store credit or remaking their drink. the picture i provided is me showing an empty cup (i threw out the drink) but it obviously has signs of lumpy and curdled pieces of spoiled milk!

Google
I got the crispy chicken cutlet spicy. Meat is tender and juicy but the star of the show are the fries. Nice clean friendly environment also fast service. This is a place to visit for a quick snack not meal. Thanks! It’s inside of Chinatown.

Google
Tiger Sugar is a fantastic choice for bubble tea lovers who enjoy rich, indulgent drinks and the experience of visually stunning, high-quality beverages. It’s especially recommended for fans of brown sugar boba milk, as the chain is known for perfecting this drink. The pricing may be a bit high for some, but the flavor and quality make it a worthy splurge for those who appreciate a premium bubble tea experience.

Google
Good efficient service. Fried chicken was hot, fresh and crispy. Boba tea is good. Boba was fresh. Easy to find unless you're directionally challenged. Staff always busy so don't expect them to be very engaging. Ordered 2 boba drinks, popcorn chicken and a fried chicken cutlet. Took 10 minutes not bad for being busy.

Yelp
An iconic boba chain all across the US!! I remember the lines used to be insanely long when it first opened in California, but we walked in to no line at all on a Saturday. It's combined with the fried chicken cutlet and cream puff shop, so there's some seating available. The decor is very tiger sugar! You order on kiosks, and grab it from the staff at the counter. I got the brown sugar boba with chocolate chip (bad translation on their end - they definitely meant Oreo cookie crumble lol). The first few sips were weird because I forgot to mix the brown sugar into the drink, so it felt a bit even alcoholic tasting? But after mixing, I thought this was delicious and I just loveeee any dessert that had Oreo crumble in it. A bit pricey though to be honest. My friend got the strawberry mochi drink, which surprisingly came with 4 different toppings in a very topping forward way. It had coconut jelly, rainbow jelly, boba, and more. The flavors were really nice here too!!

Yelp
(3 out of 5 stars) I absolutely love the Mango Sago drink here -- it's a solid 10/10. Honestly, I stop for one every single time I'm in Chinatown. If I were rating on the drink alone, this would be an easy five stars. Highly recommend it! So why only three stars? A few reasons: 1. Cleanliness: The space just never feels clean. Every visit, it seems understaffed and a little neglected. 2. Wait time: You'll usually be waiting at least 15 minutes for a drink. (Today I clocked 13 minutes -- so hey, progress?) 3. The SMELL: And here's the biggest issue -- the place smells absolutely horrific. There's an overwhelming stench of old/dirty fryer grease. I get that it's coming from the fried chicken side ("Chunky Boss"), but since they share the same storefront, it all blends together. Look, I understand that Chinatown isn't exactly known for spotless, pristine eateries, but there are some basic standards. As a fried chicken shop, you've got to: * Filter fryer grease at closing every night. * Run hood filters through the dishwasher at least weekly. * Replace fryer oil every 3-7 days. Until the smell and cleanliness are addressed, it's hard to fully enjoy what is otherwise one of the best mango drinks around.

Yelp
Very small place, 3 self checkout screens, its a combined shop with chunky boss. Order was fast, under 10min Its okay

Yelp
Gave me a broken mango ice cream and would not replace . Can't comment on service because it's all Digital Touch screen. Drinks were fine but really it's China town, go anywhere else.

Yelp
This is a small shop, where most of the folks were having bubble tea and chicken cutlet. Both looked delicious. But I went for a couple of pastries. All pastries I had was really good. A chocolate bar with fruits on the top was my favorite.

Yelp
This was my second time stopping into Tiger Sugar. I had dropped by Chinatown to grab a couple of gachas for Christmas and all of the great smells wafting around must have got to me because I found myself really hungry. That's when I remembered that I had been wanting to go back to Tiger Sugar because that first time I only got boba. I enjoyed the drink a lot but was bummed that I didn't have the appetite for one of their cutlets during that first visit so I was looking forward to finally getting to try the huge fried chicken that continually to popped up in my feed the past couple of months. So this time around I ordered the Sweet Chili Cutlet, Fries and Drink combo with an iced black sugar boba and pearl coffee latte with cream mousse. The combo is on the expensive side at $22 but the proportions are decent. If anything I was wishing the boba was bigger. The drink was great once again and exactly what I look for in a sugar and coffee bubble tea. I was kind of torn on the cutlet though. While I appreciated the size and amount of meat it had I felt that the breading was kind of lackluster in some bites and I think I would have preferred to just have the chili sauce on the side as opposed to slathered all over. I think the chicken was definitely worth a try just to satisfy my curiosity but I do wish it had left more of an impression as far as seasoning goes. The staff are courteous but mostly focused on getting the orders out which is fine because they have multiple kiosks which make ordering pretty easy. The interior is actually pretty nice but was not exactly inviting this time around. Maybe it's better in the hot months but it definitely had grab and go vibe with all the empty space. I will definitely be back for the boba but I'll probably check out other places before I make Tiger Sugar my chicken cutlet destination.

Yelp
Quick and good tiger sugar flavor. Store is clean and can be busy depending on time of day. The boba is cooked very well.
google avatar

Yelp
Got the Black Sugar + Red Bean Latte. Tasted really good, and price is reasonable compared to other boba places.

Yelp
The drinks were amazing. Three of us enjoyed all of our drinks. There is a slight wait but it was worth it.

Yelp
Tiger Sugar is one of the most consistent boba chains that I have tried around the country. They are famous for their brown sugar syrup that is added into their most popular drinks, and for good reason. You place your order at the kiosk in front and wait for your number to be called. This location offers soy milk as a non-dairy alternative, which is great. Not all TS locations do this so I can verify that this is one of the good ones. My drink was made well and just as expected. I asked for 1/2 sugar since the syrup is already very sweet, and that is truly a good call to make. Order modifications can be tricky on the kiosk. They allow you to enter a note (such as me requesting to swap out a jelly for boba in one of our drinks), but may ask to clarify with you before making the drink.

Yelp
Tiger sugar in Chinatown caught my eye when we were walking with the vibrant decorations. The place was very clean and it made me want to visit. We tired the boba which was amazing and also loved their collab with chunk boss chicken! We tried the family pack, the fries were a 10/10!! Loved adding spice to the chicken as well. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
First time trying Tiger Sugar! They have two kiosks at the register area for self-ordering. They were super busy when we were there on Saturday night, so the line took a while. But once at the kiosk, ordering is easy and fast. A bunch of my friends are lactose intolerant, so they appreciated the free alternative milk option. There are a few tables within the store, but when the line gets long the place feels very crowded. The drinks are all really good! I tried the mango sago, which was loaded and delicious! It was a bit pricey, but it also comes in a default large size. I would definitely come back to try other drinks.

Yelp
I got their unique ice cream that look like and taste like a mango I also tired their deep fried mochi balls

Yelp
As a first timer, I was annoyed by how disorganized this place was. Customers were standing line waiting to order or wait for their drinks? Who knows? People told me just to order at one of the 2 kiosks. I wanted the hello kitty cup, how do I order that online? So I asked one of the servers behind the counter. She said all drinks come in a normal cup but it's all hello kitty. You can order a special hello kitty cup for $5. Then how you do order the hello kitty plushy cup holder? Well that you have to order at the counter separately and can't order at the kiosk. Everything was just so confusing. But overall I thought the hello kitty concept was super cute. As for the drink I got the taro w taro pudding and boba. I wasn't crazy about the drink. But did like the boba. If it wasn't for the hello kitty not sure I would go back.

Yelp
I've been here three times, and I definitely think that they worked out the kinks of all the busyness from opening. Originally there was a problem with the order line mixing into the pick up line, but they put in new point of sale machine to order. Super smart! It was calm inside when I went so I was able to hear and ask someone where to go to order. The workers were nice and courteous. Very good service. They were alert when I had to ask a question, too. I tried the Tiger Sugar x Hello Kitty collab which is the Hello Crush drink which was strawberry cream with boba and a brown sugar boba. The Hello Kitty cups were so cute!! The brown sugar was my fave. The Hello Kitty collab was like drinking a dessert which was fine. I haven't had a lot of desserts turned into drinks, so that was fun! Definitely start with their brown sugar boba then move onto the Matcha one when you get a chance.

Yelp
Although there's so many bubble tea places around Chinatown, Tiger Sugar is probably one of my favorite! I always order their #1, Signature drink, black sugar boba with Pearl milk and cream mousse. I like how their tea isn't overly strong. Some other places brew their tea too long or the tea flavor itself is overpowering the black sugar taste. Or the after taste gets a bit bitter towards the end. Tiger Sugar's black sugar boba drink has a good mixture of sweetness, boba and milk. It all goes well with each other. No one ingredient overpowers the other. The boba is super fresh and chewy. You can tell it is freshly made. The store itself has cute tiger decorations. It's a little small. Definitely will get crowded during peak times. They do have different areas where you can snap pictures to post in IG lol. The service was really slow. Super slow actually. I'm not sure if they were training new people that day but it was turtle speed. I know they need to measure and weigh everything but our drinks took 15-20mins. And there was only 3 other people ahead of us.

Yelp
Visited Tiger Sugar and tried their Matcha Black Sugar Boba Milk with Cream Mousse, pearls, and boba. The texture and sweetness of the toppings were spot on, though I'd have preferred the matcha to be less bitter. Service took a while, but the friendly staff made up for it. The interior was clean and decorated. Some seating available. Being in Chinatown is a plus, as several other delightful dinner spots are nearby. Overall, a pleasant experience.

Yelp
First time here on Monday for the holiday. The place was very busy. There was a line just to put in an order. By the way the only way to put an order in is through a computer kiosk. There are only two which causes a line and because the menu although it may seem limited, there are multiple options that you need to consider through that computer kiosk. After paying at the kiosk, which one of them had a broken card reader to top it all off you stand around or sit and wait for your number to get called from the window. The place has decor that screams take a picture and post on Yelp or post on IG which . is great. We did not wait long for our drinks to be ready. The drinks definitely did not disappoint, and I would come back again if I wanted to fight through the city traffic and pay for the parking to come here.
google avatar

Yelp
Got the matcha brown sugar boba. Boba was extremely hard and chalky centers. Our regular size drink was $10.01
google avatar

Kimy P.

Yelp
When in Chinatown, I highly recommend the brown sugar boba here! You can get it with a plant based milk choice. The almond milk matched it perfectly! It's a quick come in and out kind of place without sitting. You just walk in, place your order on the app and grab your order in a few minutes. So if you are in a hurry in Chinatown and want a quick sweet drink, Tiger sugar is the place to stop by!
google avatar

Mulan C.

Yelp
I've tried Tiger Sugar a couple of times. For the most part, boba cravings will be satisfied. However, if you prefer a stronger tea taste over milky, then maybe this won't be your favorite place. On the other hand, if you're feeling sweet, creamy, and soft & chewy boba, this is the place to go! The last order i got was a brown sugar milk tea with boba and pudding. They were very generous with the amount of pudding hehe. Def worth a try!
google avatar

Wei W.

Yelp
Sorry, after few sips I remember to take picture We got this Jumbo Boba tiger sugar boba tea.... not recommended at all, first the JUMBO BOBA is not made traditional way, it was made like glass jelly type, and the tea basically was all milk, little taste of tea and brown sugar
google avatar

Yelp
I'm sure by now you may have heard of the most hype boba spot from NYC - Tiger Sugar. So so happy to see more locations opening up in Illinois, especially in our very own Chinatown! Of course I had to get the classic Brown Sugar Boba Milk + Pearl either Cream Mousse! This is definitely their signature drink although I've heard great things and will have to return to try their Tiger Mango Sago. Of course there are several great spots to grab boba in Chinatown but what I really enjoyed was the small and large pearls/tapioca in the drink. Looking forward to visiting again!

Sunny K.

Yelp
Great area in Chinatown! Service was really fast and everyone was really nice There's 3 ordering Kiosks and I think it's a great way to grab a sweet treat on the way through discovering ChinaTown

Yelp
New favorite boba drink! The milk tea tastes like a mix of taho and leche flan (if you're filipino, you know what I'm talking about.) It sucks that they aren't offering seating because that would be so useful.
google avatar

Gerald H.

Yelp
We absolutely love the drinks here especially the teas, and even with the ordering on a screen, the service from the team was great and they are very helpful. This another must try in Chinatown.
google avatar

Allison T.

Yelp
First time having Tiger Sugar from a storefront! I absolutely loved Tiger Sugar boba ice cream when it made its way to Chicago in the middle of the pandemic. I haven't had a milk tea in a very long time (I prefer other boba drinks for now) and this was quite satisfying. I got it 50% sugar and it was the perfect amount of sweetness for me. I loved that it uses different sizes of tapioca pearls. I thought others were exaggerating when people said the boba is good, but no kidding, I love their tapioca. It is one of the top. If I were craving for a brown sugar milk tea, I would definitely get it again at Tiger Sugar. I went on soft opening the day before grand opening and the menu item was very limited. I only had a choice of menu items #1-5. I would return to try the mango drink or other items on the menu. Tiger Sugar, welcome to Chitown!
google avatar

Julia X.

Yelp
Yea I was one of those people who waited in line for their grand opening. They tried to deafen me with the darned lion dance and scare me away with firecrackers and the big line, ya know, I was brave as a tiger. Haven't tried the popcorn they gave out yet, but the playing cards are pretty nice. I've gotten Tiger Sugar in Singapore and NYC and was super excited to see a location open here! I generally just get the T1, though I tried to order the T2 at this location. Ended up getting a T1 that cost extra since my coffee jelly was missing :'( Sizes are big, sugar and ice levels are NOT adjustable, prices high ($8+), but if you like brown sugar boba this is probably my favorite chain to get it at. They also give paper straws at this location, which I appreciate from an eco-friendly point of view, but make sure to finish your drink before it starts drooping.
google avatar

Candice T.

Yelp
I ordered a black sugar milk tea with mochi, boba and added extra jumbo boba (paid extra for them). I ordered online via Uber at 2:30pm with an estimated pick up time of 2:45pm. I didn't get to pick up my drink until 3:45pm, and I had to ask for it twice in that hour. Even though they might be aware that I was waiting as I told them my name, they didn't yell out the name of the order. The order did sit there for a little bit. I finally picked it up, and then noticed they didn't have my jumbo boba inside the drink as they usually sit on top of the drink. They basically added the jumbo boba to the bottom and put my drink back in the cup. Therefore everything got shaken and mixed up and didn't have the typical black sugar milk tea look which was kind of disappointing. The drink was 10 dollars. The size was small when it was compared to other milk tea shops. The size was between a tall and a grande in Starbucks definition. Given the wait time, the cost for the size and the disappointment from the drink, I will not come back. I do not recommend. No one should be waiting for a drink for more than 30 minutes. Unless they change their management, I am not coming back.
google avatar

Eman E.

Yelp
So mid & overhyped, everything fell apart so quickly it was surreal. I haven't tried their boba but when it comes to the food here I'd stray away. Have to hand it to them though their promotion/marketing makes everything seem way better then it is, so theres that.
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
So far we tried the black sugar mini boba with pudding milk, mango sago (not pictured), and lychee black tea with crystal boba! I would give five stars for their black sugar drink and mango sago!! Dropped one for the lychee because it was just okay and not worth since we think there are other places better The black sugar pudding milk is really sooo creamy and milky with that great caramel like flavor! The pudding itself add onto the caramel flavor similar to flan and is soft plus smooth! Their boba is well mafe for the perfect chew while being soft. The mango sago is exactly like the cantonese dessert with mamgo smoothie like puree and bits of lychee jelly and sago!! Definitely now one of my favorite places to grab boba in the city
google avatar

Len L.

Yelp
Located in Chinatown square where you can only order the drinks from a kiosk. I love the famous Tiger Sugar concept that they perfected the marriage of tea, milk and syrup in every sip you take. The only negative part to this is that you are not able to reduce the level of sugar on any drink so it is 100% sugar for every cup. there is only two sizes, Large and XL and the XL is not that large. I ordered the red bean and boba and it was tasty and very sticky which I wished they would wipe down the sides of the cup. There are over 10 other places here in Chinatown that has an option to reduce the sugar intake but if you love the sugar than this is the place for you.

MiniyA W.

Yelp
The #11 (black sugar Boba dark chocolate chips milk series drink) was really good!! Service was amazing! Would definitely come back here 10/10!!

Roshni S.

Yelp
My favorite go-to in Chinatown for fresh, delicious and low sugar option boba! So many flavor choices and quick service.

Yelp
I truly wish I could give more stars to this place. We really want to love it, but yeah, we couldn't. Service - we came in on a Tuesday night around 8.30PM. It was quite busy for a Tuesday night. It was honestly my first time ordering it here. We've had Tiger Sugar before, but we ordered it with UberEats by delivery, and I just never write a review because I didn't taste it. It was my kids who drank it. I was standing by the register for quite a while, thinking I could order there because one of the machines was broken and I want to ask about the jumbo boba. There's a guy there, and never once he asked me if I need help. I finally asked him if I could order here, and he's like no. And he said order there (while pointing to the other machine). We ordered a total of 5 drinks. All with extra stuff, such as extra jumbo boba, extra popping boba. Unfortunately, taste wise, it was pretty disappointing. Jumbo boba tastes like coffee. My kids hated it. They ended up throwing the drinks. Mind you, I spent roughly $55 for 5 drinks, including 15% tips. The tea doesn't taste strong. It's too watery due to too much ice. I'm just too disappointed, honestly.

Ishaan G.

Yelp
Excellent boba, nice ambiance and interior, definitely worth visiting if you're near Chinatown (limited seating but there are nice areas to sit around Chinatown if the weather is good)
google avatar

Angie W.

Yelp
We came in a Thursday evening and it was pretty busy! I appreciated the multiple ordering screens they had to help the lines but inside was miserable. No air conditioning and the wait was long. It was about $20 for two drinks. The drink was good but it's so interesting it's an up charge for less ice. They did offer other milk options .

Lila B.

Yelp
If you like brown sugar this is the place for you but not actual tea. It literally brown sugar syrup and milk. No actually tea. I really suggest any other boba place then this one. it like $6 for milk and tapioca balls, literally any other boba place in Chinatown is better than wasting your money there Rude old manager. Also I heard from a friend who works there they tried to make him work for 12 hours so then he could get a 1 hour break and that the only way he could get a break. They also do not wear gloves making drinks or using any sanizter or soap to clean their pots to boil boba. So if you wondering why your shitting your brains out the next day from eating from tiger sugar, you know why
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
I first had Tiger Sugar while living in Vegas, and am so happy that they have a location in Chicago! Great tea selection. Easy to order from the kiosk as well. Definitely give them a try if you're in the area!
google avatar

Stacey H.

Yelp
I'm addicted to the brown sugar boba milk here! This is my go-to place if I want a brown sugar boba drink. Love the texture of the boba (very chewy) and there are different sizes to the boba too which makes it more unique. It tastes so good on it's own but if I'm feeling extra, I looove it with the pudding. It's pretty sweet and you can't modify sugar or ice level, so be warned about that. Definitely an indulgence. The wait time is fast. You can order at the kiosk or counter.
google avatar

Johnfavour N.

Yelp
The new strawberry mochi drink is so good! It only comes in an XL size with sago, aloe, grass jelly, mochi, and strawberry chunks. The strawberry flavor tasted fresh and natural, and the chunks of strawberry were really flavorful. The normal brown sugar milk was also great, they started putting the brown sugar syrup on the sides of the cup again. There were a few times where they just put the brown sugar at the bottom, and while it tastes the same, it didn't have the same aesthetic.
google avatar

Bernadette D.

Yelp
Love how Chicago is getting more popular bubble tea places! I first had Tiger Sugar down in DFW and was so excited when I heard one was opening up here in Chicago. This place is right in the middle of Chinatown Square so plenty of parking available. Walking in, there are 2 kiosks where you can place your orders yourself. Service goes by quickly and I was able to pick up my drink within 5 minutes. My usual order would be the Black Sugar Boba Black Tea Latte with Cream Mousse (T5). I find their signature drink to be very sweet for my liking but I do enjoy having the mixed big and small boba with my drink! I wish they had the option of changing that whenever I order my drink. Also, make sure to shake your drink well so that the brown sugar is well incorporated into your drink!
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
Chicago gets another popular boba chain! Never a bad thing. For now, everyone walking around Chinatown will be sporting the Tiger Sugar cups, drinking out of brown-marbled cups. There is so much hype for this place. And for good reason. Boba selection in Chicago is nearing adequate. Options range from tea-based drinks to more milk-based drinks, the latter of which Tiger Sugar belongs to. It's a nice balance - the signature drink itself is quite sweet and creamy. You can really taste the brown sugar, and it compliments the cream mousse on top well. My personal favorite however, is the actual milk tea (the black tea latte with boba in particular). Call me a Loyalist: the bitterness of the tea helps to cut into the sweetness and makes the drink taste better. Regardless of your taste, however, highly recommend stopping by Tiger Sugar on your next trip to Chinatown.

Yelp
This place has great tea and food! The service is top tier, will definitely be visiting again!

Yelp
TIGER FOREVER I'm in love with the Tiger. Chicago rocks when it comes to international flavor and I'm so excited to welcome Tiger Sugar. When I arrived today to grab our drinks, I found a line out the door. This unique drink will rock your world. I must admit that It totally rocked mine. You might be wondering this question...what makes this location special? It was started in Taichung, Taiwan in 2017. The Tiger Sugar has become known for its brown sugar boba streaked with syrup. These streaks look like tiger stripes. Roar! This is where the name comes from. The drinks are made with a proprietary brown sugar syrup along with an organic milk from Straus Family Creamery and tapioca. I'll be honest and say it's one of the best Asian drinks I've ever had. I'm not a pro when it comes to ordering. We ordered three drinks for the family. Mine had espresso and my family wanted the drink I ordered. I had to fight them off. The funny part was when I was ordering they wanted nothing to do with caffeine. After sipping mine, the whole family wanted to trade. I denied their requests. The Tiger King (that's me) had spoken. I was intrigued to learn that this place offers both small and large tapioca balls with their drinks. I'm never a fan of the tapioca balls but these were really good. Probably the best I've ever had. I'm a huge fan now of the small ones. I wish I knew I was an expert when I was ordering but honestly I had no clue. I'm so excited for this Chicago location. The locals were lined up and they were in love. Personally I'd call this place a really good Starbucks and I'm not a fan of Starbucks. I'd actually drink my espresso drink from this place every single day. I love our Chinatown. Luckily I was able to work in China and when I visit here it reminds me of my trips. Chicago is amazing when it comes to international flavors. Welcome to Chicago Tiger Sugar. You're going to have a long and fruitful life in this city. Long live Tiger Sugar. You're the new Tiger King!

Yelp
I am rarely ever inclined to leave 1-star reviews; however my experience here today is an exception. Saw the viral 'jumbo boba' on Instagram which was what specifically brought me back here. And for the record my one other visit here was terrific. Not sure what has happened over the past approximate one-and-a-half years since I've been here, must've been brought under new management or something. Anyway, the 'jumbo boba' milk tea I received was absolutely NOTHING what it looked like on IG. I honestly believe they put coffee jelly on top of my drink instead of the advertised boba. I really wish I'd taken a picture of this disastrous drink, but I know I'm not the only one who was disappointed with this. There were light touches of artificial coffee syrup with old Prairie Farms whipped cream on top that appeared half disintegrated too. All in a Hello Kitty cup which made it quite difficult to see what I was actually drinking. Overall, a once warm and welcoming environment with excellent drinks and customer service, now a barren lost cause run by shady staff. The two baristas made it obvious enough they didn't want to be there. It took me literally three attempts to ask for a refund for my drink!! But no, all they kept asking was if I wanted a replacement. It sounded as they were trying to be smart alecks with me, which is a HUGE no-no in terms of providing exceptional customer service. No way was I going to take my chances with a different drink at this point! I should've known to turn around when it was dead quiet inside upon entering. That normally seems to be a big red flag for any cafe or restaurant. I'm simply fed up with these places that focus only on marketing to social media platforms and not actually living up to their "promises" for their paying customers. Sadly, Tiger Sugar appears to have become one of them. Can't imagine this location being in business for much longer, with the staff they have running this what has become a joke of an establishment.

Yelp
Waiting in a long line for food/drink usually means a good thing and this was the case here. I went for the Signature with no modifications and didn't leave disappointed. Before I grabbed my order, I was told to shake my drink and it was perfectly sweetened (and by that not cloyingly sweet). I'll definitely be back when I'm in the neighborhood.
