Personal Pan Pies With a Midwestern Twist Rise Out of the Roost - Eater DC

"Personal pan pizzas are suddenly having a moment in D.C. In September, Tigerella opened with similarly nostalgic pies, baked in Pizza Hut’s (discontinued) deep-dish metal pans. The Foggy Bottom little sister to Elle also serves cheese and pepperoni, as well as a “Pickle Pie” topped with garlic cream, giardiniera, and bread and butter pickled veggies." - Emily Wishingrad

Long review ahead. Yes they serve Italian food. I went back and forth a lot, I really wanted to give this place 4 stars but I couldn’t. Let me tell you why. The restaurant is located inside a mall type building with other small bites and food options for students at GW University. This isn’t a problem until you look more into what this restaurant is about. The price does NOT match the atmosphere at all, $26 for chicken parmesan and $20+ for a prosciutto pizza was not acceptable in my opinion. The amount of pasta we received was so little it was embarrassing. The prosciutto had very little taste and the sauce was too watery and bland. The pizza wasn’t that hot considering, and I’m assuming- it came out of a brick oven? Additionally for marinated olives it cost $5 and for $8 you get “bread and butter”. These are prices I would pay for an authentic sit down Italian restaurant with an ambiance that makes you feel you are not in the middle of a mall. Is the location of the restaurant the problem? No. It’s the price that they push forward is. Dessert was OKAY, the cannoli was deconstructed (they do not mention this FYI). It was over-fried and the filling was little bitter and lacked sweetness. Tiramisu was compact, beautiful, and tasty. It could do for a stronger coffee taste however. Lastly, without being told there is a 20% service charge (I’m not sure if this is for all bills or a bill over certain price, but it would have been nice to know). Ok now for the things that I liked. The food was served relatively quick and the service wasn’t bad in any way. The food was good but not for the price point and ambiance. The menu was simple which is nice but between picking only 3 pastas and 3 pizzas I would expect that they would be phenomenal. I attached pictures for reference, I also see this is a newer restaurant so I do wish them the best of luck. I think with a few changes, like better description of the menu, and improved ambiance there is room to grow.

The staff and service was great, the calamari was tasty . however the other dishes Very disappointing ! Menu needs to be more descriptive! Too much breaded items on menu ! Ordered the RED KURI SQUASH TARTINE. Wasn't expecting all the ingredients to be puréed and served on top of a slice of bread ..(maybe tartine on the side ) Was hoping The chicken Parmesan wouid come with white meat, was the thigh (This should have been disclosed on the menu ). The cannoli was fried wantons with a sort of sweet sour crème. Atmosphere and staff were great wish they had a better product to deliver

Placed an order to go. Two pasta orders and a pizza. Let me start off by saying the portions of my pasta did not even cover the Togo bowl. I’m beyond upset considering this pasta was more than $20! Please see the video and photos. Will not be retuning! This should not be on the Michelin app recommendations. The flavor was not that great!

Enjoyed a very cozy dinner with great service. Didn’t have a reservation but easily got seated at the bar. Loved the pasta and the while the pizza was a bit different (thick layer of dough) it was surprisingly tasty!

Awesome coffee and pastries from the folks behind the spectacular Ellē. They even have bags of house blend whole bean coffee that was specially roasted for Tigerella! And I loved having the choice of either toasted or salted simple syrup - very unique. I’ll for sure be stopping here any time I’m in the area. Edit: Had to go back to try the new pizzas. 10/10. The prices listed on the menu ($12-14) didn’t match what they were actually charging ($14-16) and the manager refunded me the difference. Unfortunate that they’re already changing their prices after debuting the pizzas in local press only a few weeks ago.

I went to Tigerella with my family to celebrate my brother’s birthday. The restaurant atmosphere was pleasant and the staff was attentive and friendly. We enjoyed the interesting variety of wines and beers. Our appetizers, sandwiches, salads and desserts were beautifully presented and equally delicious. We will be returning!

Delicious pastas at a perfect portion size, interesting wines, thoughtful cocktails, stunning desserts, engaging service. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable dinner. Especially enjoyed the squash salad and the bumbola pasta, but I loved everything we had and would happily order any of it again when we inevitably return.

Finally got over to Tigerella for lunch and it was delicious! It’s a great spot for a higher end lunch too. I had a seasonal salad that was phenomenal. It’s a bit on the pricey side but very, very worth it. Service was great and I’m looking forward to getting back for lunch again sometime soon.
