Had a wonderful day on the river with Mike and Todd!! They accommodated our group with short notice and provided excellent instruction for our beginners and experienced anglers alike. It was our first trip to the Gunpowder, and we all were introduced to several new techniques as well as the experience of catching the local browns. Everything was laid out for us, just as planned and we all left excited to come back again!

If you’re looking to either learn how to Euro nymph or refine and hone in on your skills you may already posses to effectively catch more Trout on the renowned Gunpowder River and other local Maryland / Pennsylvania streams look no further! Mike is a phenomenal guide and teacher both on the water or in one of his specialty clinics. This past weekend I had a trip scheduled with Mike And after some much needed insight and teachings, I was able to land my personal best wild trout! With what I learned in the short time I had with Mike I was able to successfully land a few wild Browns on a more difficult section of the Gunpowder! I am looking forward to many more trips in the future!

Had a really good time on the river learning about euro nymphing. Mike has the knowledge and coaching technique to serve all ranges of experience levels. I did a full day, hooking about 20 fish getting about 15 in the net. The natural brown trout were showing off. It was all together a great day. I had seen him speak at the Maryland fly fishing show and waited way too long to pull the trigger on booking a guide trip with him. I left my trip with a lot more euro nymphing knowledge and confidence to try it out in my own. I would highly recommend a trip with him as a way to just try something new , catch some fish, and have fun or to glean invaluable information about the euro nymphing technique.

I started fly fishing last July (2024) when I moved up to Baltimore County. I tried fishing the Gunpowder by myself for hours with very little luck. I started looking at youtube videos on how to fly fish the Gunpowder. This is where I came across Mike. I booked a trip one on one in December and learned the technique to tight line. I also did Mike's euro nymphing clinic as well as the drop fly class. All of the skills Mike taught me has no doubt dialed me in on catching trout each trip I take. If your serious about learning how to fly fish the Gunpowder I highly recommend Mike. As he says I have graduated from his classes and have earned my badge.

Mike was awesome! It was my boyfriend's first time fly fishing, and he really enjoyed the trip. Mike is an excellent teacher, and made quick adjustments on the water to help us catch fish. We both learned a ton, caught many fish, and had such a great morning on the river. We went back to the river later in the week, and I was able to apply what I learned (with the leader and flies Mike gave us at the end of our trip) and caught trout on my own euro nymphing! Thanks for a great time Mike, can’t wait to do it again!

Mike runs an excellent fishing clinic and is a top notch guide. His skills as a teacher definitely shine through on the creek. His small group format is probably the best way to go. Highly recommended

10/10 would recommend booking a trip with Mike!!! Whether you are new to fly fishing or have been doing it for a while you will have a blast and learn a ton. I have gone out with Mike on two one on one trips and I have done a few classes as well. I have always had a great time and learned a lot! Our most recent trip we focused on dialing in my current skills And learning new ones. We were rewarded with about 15 fish with some really cool eats and some nice size browns to the net.

I just finished attending Mike S.’s Maryland Tightline Nymphing Clinic on Dry Dropper/ Single Fly Euro Nymphing. If you want to learn the latest in fly fishing, this is the place to go! I learned more in three hours than in months of fishing by myself or from countless hours browsing articles on-line. Every fly fisher should spend a day learning from Mike!!! This was my third clinic, and I hope to expand my knowledge by taking several guided trips with him…. He’s that spectacular!
