The Best Burritos in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"With a solid reputation for amazing tacos in tow, Tight Tacos also brings the heat to the burrito scene. While the normal burrito offers an impressive variety of meat and non-meat options, it’s entirely overshadowed by the showstopping Hellarito. This burrito is next-level, housing nacho cheese and house-cut fries. Diners looking for maximum indulgence should try the Hellarito with the juicy al pastor." - Janey Wong

Portland Mexican Cart Tight Tacos Opens in the Zipper Today - Eater Portland

"When Tight Tacos co-owner Mark Cosio moved from California to Oregon, he missed Mexican food enough to open a taco cart with his brother-in-law, Ox alum Reggie Ballesteros. Now, four years later, their family business has blown up into an Instagram sensation, with four carts including a catering cart, an incoming restaurant in Maui, and their very first Portland restaurant opening today in the Zipper. Starting at 3 p.m., Cosio and Ballersteros will serve tacos on hand-pressed tortillas, massive piles of nachos, and hard seltzer micheladas out of the former Chickpeadx space." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Google
Really good food, but it’s a bit pricey. Really good AC, great for getting out of the heat.

Google
The food looked delicious, just wasn’t a fan of the flavor. The pickles onions over powered everything else in the nachos and made it sweet. I couldn’t really taste the nacho cheese, but the meat was good. The esquite had a masa flavor and was overly salty which I’ve never experienced, not bad, just different. Probably would’ve asked for more lime to balance it out. I would definitely try this place again.

Google
Brought my baby and best friend here. Got the lunch special, dine in only 2 tacos for $10 with a side and its a generous side. And the shells are made to order. I can't wait to come back. Also get the quesabirria. You won't be disappointed. Horchata is 10/10 as well.

Google
It's a great spot for a snack. They have a variety of items to choose from. We had some tacos, quesataco, and nachos. The tacos had a healthy portion of protein, and the nachos were amazing! They make their chips fresh, and all the ingredients on the nachos are great, especially the cheese sauce.

Google
Tasty and affordable as you want it to be. You can go with a range or traditional or veggie tacos, or upscale to bowls or sauced burritos and cocktails. Clean. Flavorful. Festive. I had the pastor and un pastor (cauliflower) tacos. Preferred traditional due to more sauce and seasoning. Sadly, canned pineapples on taco, but for $4, of course.

Google
Delicious food with an awesome vibe. Showed up at a busy time and the meal still came out super fast with great smiles. The soothing sound of Yo La Tengo played as I enjoyed every last bite.

Google
Very willingly helpful and courteous staff. Al pastor Hellarito was tasty. First burrito I've had with fries in it and did not disappoint. Very filling and may be more than one can handle for a meal - so be ready for leftovers.

Google
Tight Tacos was an amazing local restuarant. We had essentially carne asada tacos and birria fries and both were great. The in-house horchata was some the best i've ever had. Street parking only but plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
This place is a hit! It's been tough trying to find good Mexican food, now does this place fit the bill! You have to give this place a shot, will definitely order again!

Yelp
First time trying tight tacos. I ordered a singular soyrizo taco. The tortilla was good. The seasoning was tasty. Salsa verde was tasty.
google avatar

Marie K.

Yelp
DoorDashed an order of street tacos and Mexican street corn. Both tasted great, the tacos were huge. They didn't hold back on the carne asada.I will definitely go in to eat in person.

Yelp
We hit Cats Paw and got Uber Eats Tight Tacos. The best surprise I have ever had. I could have crushed a dozen. Tortillas fresh. Meat perfect. Picadillo for the win all day. Chicken was legit too. The red sauce? Homemade and delicious. Totally will do this again. Thank you Taco Gods!!!!
google avatar

Bexx K.

Yelp
First time having quesatacos! Everything was so delicious and fresh! I loved the esquites too. I got chicken in my tacos and i loved how crunchy and delicious they were. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Very good like the other tight taco a couple of miles north. I still like the braised beef and carnitas tacos. Plus like their chips which might be homemade. This location isn't shared with other restaurants so more Mexican themed. They had fresh juices that I'll have to try another time. Yelp check-in had one free taco the last time I went, thank you!
google avatar

Iris L.

Yelp
typical taco place $5 quesataco with braised beef, good flavoring and not as crunchy as expected $7 cup of horchata, largest size, good drink!
google avatar

Kimberly D.

Yelp
If you are into Americanized Mexican food which I am once in a while. I am all about the zipper nachos! I usually order delivery, but have gone in for counter service and their staff can be down right rude! I do like both location, but prefer the zipper as the division location is where we had poor service. The zipper is so cool and you can grab a drink at the bar there. Plus if someone in your party isn't feeling Mexican food there are many other choices!
google avatar

Grace S.

Yelp
The Quesataco was amazing! I got one with braised beef and the consome side and it was so good. I also got a regular pollo taco and it was mediocre, seemed like the tortilla was not cooked very well and a little too thick. The chicken was pretty dry too. Overall I would go back for the quesataco as it was amazing!
google avatar

Kristen M.

Yelp
Best. Tacos. Ever. Quesatacos are a revelation and I'm thinking of relocating to Portland to be near these. The staff were super friendly and helpful, the location was cheerful, clean and whimsical. I will be back!

Yelp
Today's sunny weather called for outdoor dining on Division! We tried this spot for the first time today and it hit the spot. To start, we had Micheladas in their giant styrofoam cups - they are very generous with their pours! Our chips were perfectly salty and the salsa tasted very fresh. For our taco entrees, we selected chicken, birria and carnitas as our choices of protein. The tacos were a bit dry and the meat was slightly bland but their fully stocked salsa bar helped add some more flavor! The service was super quick and the cashier was friendly. All in all, we really enjoyed our meal and we highly recommend trying out their Micheladas!!

Yelp
Tight Tacos was just across the street from our Air bnb. It's was in walking distance and the perfect location for lunch or dinner! The food was fresh and was so delicious! I had a taco with pollo and the highly recommended quesataco with asada. The cheese fried and melted inside was just dreamy!! The guacamole (not shown) was so good, it was refreshing and had just the right amount of onions and lime juice! The staff were so helpful and their recommendations were a hit! The restaurant is so clean and the atmosphere is fun and inviting.

Yelp
Finally got to try this spot after a long run day so I was starved. Did some division street exploring with Eric. Got the Hellarito since I read rave reviews (with al pastor) but I was sadly disappointed. The burrito hurt my tummy bad. And it just tasted salty. It's unfortunate to compare every burrito to my favorite trailbreak burrito, but this one fell short

Yelp
Tried this place out for the first time. I ordered there nachos with double the toppings and a quesabirria taco. Both were delicious but the nachos were my thing. I ordered two drinks a margarita and an horchata. But they forgot to bring me my horchata and I got so consumed in conversation with my friends I forgot to asked them about it. You can either sit at the table and scan a QR code to order your food or you can order it at the front.
google avatar

Amayah E.

Yelp
Yummmyyyy tacos!!! I got the soyrizo and just yes! The flavor was there and the portion was pretty great. It's a cute concept place too hahah, and the tacos come with a few tortilla chips - a nice touch I must say. I especially loved the condiment bar and the servers were helpful and lovely. The ambiance was casual! I would definitely return to get more tacos!

Tracy P.

Yelp
This eatery isn't open often (maybe runs out of food?) But when it is, you better get your face in here! Had no idea what to expect when ordering a Keto bowl with braised beef and was blown away! shared with the rest of the table!! Delicious!! The street tacos ordered by my compadres, were generous with meat and full of flavor! We'll definitely be back!! Thank you Tight Tacos
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
Only tries a soyrizo taco. Good flavor. The two hot sauces were green and red, green was generic, red was good.

Yelp
First time here! The burrito was so flavorful. The location is small On the inside but the vibe was chill. Loved the music. The staff was really nice and answered all of our questions. I didn't get a photo because I dug right in. If you want something delicious and doesn't take too long, I highly recommend.
google avatar

Jessica K.

Yelp
Great food. Great customer service. I tried to rush there before closing and when I arrived they seem to be closing up shop. HOWEVER, staff said they would gladly make me some food to go. Thank you so much AND delicious
google avatar

Yelp
Talk about a meaty taco! You get your money's worth here on their street tacos! Each taco is priced at $4 or you can choose from their other options on their menu. But this review is mainly for their street taco. Other than the overload on filling, their generosity for cilantro and onion are phenomenal. If you obviously don't favor that, you can always ask it on the side. But they do load up! The carne asada wasn't dry and full of flavor. Cut up to small pieces for you to enjoy every bite. The birrira is so soft and juicy, paired with the consome and bam! Their el pastor is paired with a few pineapple pieces that just enhances the flavor of the pork. So good! Definitely one of my top taco places. A few downsides: if you're coming for dinner, come before 8 ish or it's take out only and no alcoholic drinks- they have a few outdoor seating if you're lucky. Street parking can be hard to find. No downsides to the service or food though!
google avatar

Yelp
Tight tacos is incredibly tasty but this review is for delivery. Unfortunately nearly every time I've ordered delivery the order has been wrong. The Sandy location has never given me chips (when I pay for 2 bags). Other items have been missing like onions, cilantro, etc. Division location was closer to my actual order but missed the guac (that I paid for). There is no way I can find to contact either location. I wish I could depend on delivery because we love this food and spend a lot when we order (we get the family kit).
google avatar

Jeannie D.

Yelp
DELICIOUS! I like to get the zipper nachos with the chips on the side (do it!!!) it's fantastic! Then if you don't finish your food you CAN save it! I never finish, it's a large portion. They offer Topo Chico among other drinks. I have had the tacos, but definitely prefer the nachos. They have indoor seating, not great parking of course...
google avatar

Daniel N.

Yelp
Wow. Definitely a great place when You are craving tacos! I loved the birria tacos especially when you dipped them into the house made consume. Staff was very chill and easy to talk to. Felt like I knew them. Great place for a casual date!
google avatar

Ariel B.

Yelp
Congratulations, Tight Tacos! You were the final straw for me for shitty delivery meals. I will never use a third-party app for delivery ever again. I was absolutely starving after an extremely long day, and Tight Tacos made sure to say "Fuck you" to me with the awful packaging of their food. If you enjoy gross ice cold tacos and chip and nacho cheese soup, this is your spot.
google avatar

Dan G.

Yelp
Where do I begin with my love for the place...but just prepared the quoted pick time is often wrong as it's small kitchen they get backed up quickly with walk in orders and online orders plus all the delivery apps.
google avatar

Erin N.

Yelp
Came for the tacos, left with a $1k hospital bill because of the super dangerous concrete step they have right in their front entrance. I got a second degree sprain tripping on it last summer that resulted in an emergency room visit, 8 weeks in a boot, and months of recovery. One year later, I'm still not back to 100% and can't walk long distances without some degree of soreness.

Yelp
The PDX Eater has a great list of 14 Gargantuan, Stuffed Burritos in Portland. I've been slowly eating my way through the list and this is the 3rd restaurant that I've tried. The list has not led me wrong so far! They recommended getting the hellarito with Al pastor and that is what I got. I also got an horchata to go. There was a salsa bar with squeeze bottles of red and green salsa. There was also pickled jalapeños too. My burrito was delicious. It was so big that I had to take some of it home. The potato's, meat, and nacho cheese hit for me. I only used the green salsa and it added some good flavor to the burrito. The horchata was average. The staff working were friendly too. I enjoyed my burrito but I need to come back and try the tacos!
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
pretty standard tacos. very decent but nothing special. price is fair, neighborhood is fantastic. they could improve them but adding variety to the toppings. all tacos had the standard onions and cilantro you see everywhere. solid but not special

Dawn R.

Yelp
We had 2 queso birria tacos, a birria bowl, Al pastor taco and a huge wet burrito. Everything was amazing! The chips and salsa are made fresh. The staff were friendly with exceptionally fast service in a bright and fun atmosphere. Definitely going back next time we're in town.
google avatar

Billy R.

Yelp
Food is good. Unfortunately, they no longer care about people with gluten allergies. Been coming here for a couple years ordering a quesadilla on corn tortillas. A new manager a few months ago says it's not possible to do that. Why not? Per the manager, seems like it'll confuse them in the kitchen. I can order a taco which comes on a corn tortilla, add cheese and hold the meat, but call that a quesadilla and they're suddenly lost? I'll be the first to admit that it's not a common request, but you've got all the parts, to say you can't do it. Go to Ole Ole on Burnside. Carnitas are great, better prices
google avatar

Yelp
Visiting from out of town, this came up on the "Best of" in Portland. Located in this great little neighborhood on Division. We all did the tacos, Chorizo, Carnitas and Al Pastor. My niece is vegetarian and they had great non-meat options, more than the general faire which was awesome, including soy-chorizo which she had never seen on a menu before - so that was great. And like the reviews say, meaty, they don't skimp on fillings. I thought the carnitas was pretty darn good, way above average. Canned pineapple on the Al Pastor, but what are you going to do? We also had chips, salsa and guacamole. Guac was fresh. Nice staff, attentive. They are all in the back making fresh tortillas, with a view of the counter, so no needless waiting. The ambience is a little lacking, we came in around 8pm and it looked like they hadn't really recovered from the last rush. Tortillas are fresh, but not what I am used to, not very malleable, I sat wondering if they were cooked - they definitely are, but maybe they are baked? I would definitely go again, but since I am just a visitor to this fine town, I would seek out other options before going here.

Yelp
Thirsty papas and hellarito are perfection. Every time the food is full of flavor and pipin hot! Absolutely thrilled to find and live near one of the best food spots in this great city of Portland.
google avatar

Yelp
Came for a late night snack with beer at Growlers Taproom, also one of the few places open late in Portland. Great little pod with a fire pit and lights strung up making it super cozy. Ordered the nachos with al pastor to share. The nachos are $10, but the portions was surprisingly large! There is so much colour and freshness that catches your eyes, as the top is covered with cilantro, pickled red onions, diced onions, sour cream, jalapeños and avocado creama. Underneath is the delicious al pastor, cheese sauce and crispy tortilla chips. Warning Alert: these nachos are messy and best eaten with a fork! Topped it with some housemade salsa - there was a red roasted chilli and green creamy one, both were delicious and had a good kick! The nachos were delicious and paired so well with a beer. Definitely a must order if you're in the neighbourhood and looking for a cool place to hang out.
google avatar

Ellie L.

Yelp
The burrito was amazing! Amazing flavor, I got the veggies which was delish. I typically choose not to get veggies because it has things I don't like/can't eat. I am vegetarian and I love this place! I wish they were somewhere safer/over the river, but no complaints.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious, colorful, and plenty of food for the money! Went to Tight Tacos for dinner one evening and were greeted with a smile and they hustled to get our order to us. It was a rainy evening, but we sat outside around the fire pit, which they came and turned on as it was getting chilly. Had that seating been taken, we'd have gone inside the Growlers building. That's where you go to get cups of water too, btw. We each ordered 2 tacos, and they served all 4 of them on one plate, which sure looks pretty, but makes it tough to eat when 2 people are sharing a plate of messy food. We got a second plate to make it easier. I loved the pickled onions as they added a bright note. Handmade tortillas were tasty but filling - I ended up just eating the meat off my 2nd taco. We tried 4 different meats but both liked the al pastor the best. So much flavor! I got some chips and salsa too - tasty salsa for sure! Our friends got tacos and a Keto bowl and enjoyed both. Definitely a plus on my taco list!
google avatar

Yelp
Really fun restaurant in this area of Portland! I thought their tacos were so yummy. Lots of flavor. I wouldn't call this your traditional taco place (ex. my pastor taco had pineapples on it) but it's a fun spot to try. I liked their tacos more than their burritos. Their burritos came with a queso sauce that felt too heavy, I would ask for little or no queso next time! And best part - when you check in, you get a free taco!

Mel J.

Yelp
I stopped in on my way somewhere else when I saw someone outside eating what looked like magical tacos. And they were! The tortillas were soft and fabulous, the fillings delicious, the staff friendly and quick.
google avatar

Kadin H.

Yelp
Do you want to chill? Order up chips & guac, a blended hellarita, and the giant hellarito, and sit curbside in the summer. My go-to is shrimp, but I also enjoy the carne asada. We also enjoy the seasonal veg bowl as a vegetarian option. Plus margs to go!!!

Valencia D.

Yelp
Best burrito in the neighborhood I like the hellarito !! Fav My bf and I are obsessed we get it with chicken and avocado we crave it EVERYDAY
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
I love love love their food but I am super bummed they aren't open for lunch anymore, the reason for the three stars. UPDATE: Okay, I will give four stars. Their food IS awesome It sucks that people don't want to work anymore. I will forever be keeping my eyes watching for the delicious lunch time menu!
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
Tight Tacos is sparsely furnished, but don't let that deter you, their food is top notch and their employees are very courteous. We walked in and were greeted with a smile. The prices are extremely reasonable, especially given the quality and quantity of the food! I'm a big eater, and I ordered a chorizo burrito and not only did it taste incredible, it was so large I took half of it home for lunch the next day! I highly recommend Tight Tacos.
google avatar

Jessica D.

Yelp
I'm glad I wore a loose fitting dress that day. It was definitely an "unbutton your pants" type of meal. The Hellarito was orgasmic .10/10 would pound again.
google avatar

Ty C.

Yelp
Easy 5 stars. Great food, all the meats I tried were really good and flavorful and high quality. Carnitas, pastor, Asada, and chicken. The tortillas were unique, hand pressed and cooked made to order. Some of the best taco tortillas I've had! The chips on the growler nachos were fire! Not spicy, but bomb !! There was seasoned and cooked perfectly and stayed crunchy and never got soggy. I've always been a fan of a tight taco, but now I can say that I've eaten at a tight taco.... The service was super friendly, helpful, and cool. Pro tip, there is a check in deal to get a FREE TACO!!! How generous! All you passive yelpers, stop being lurkers and sign up for an account and help contribute to the yelp community! Stop by next door for a beer at the library. You can get 5oz tasters of high quality beer for $2!! Or get a pint for $5-$6. Really chill spot with tons of high quality selections. There is also a coffee bar inside where you can get an iced espresso mint latte. Back to TT, all the salsas / hot sauces were really good. You don't need them on any of the food items, but if you are like me you might want to take small sips of them in between eating to get punched in the face with flavor. Much like I did last night when I crashed my bike and got punched in the face by the ground, but that's a different story entirely.....
google avatar

Mayra S.

Yelp
Okaaayyyyu Tight Tacos, I see you with your al pastor tacos and homemade tortillas. Delicious and full of flavor. Al Pastor is way better than the Asada , for sureeee! My sister went with the chicken nachos and the pollo had a chipotle/smoky taste to them, very good. I didn't love the nacho cheese on them I prefer my nachos with a shredded Mexican blend but again very good.
google avatar

Jamie H.

Yelp
We ventured out with some friends on Saturday for an impromptu date night and we were so happy we did!! We ordered a variety of tacos (pollo, carnitas, pastor & canaries) and a side of Esquites as well as a Hellarita. We also ordered a Hellarito burrito to take home to our son! The hand made corn tortillas are to die for!!!!! The Hellarito might be the best burrito I've ever had!! We can't wait to come back!!
google avatar

Cate K.

Yelp
can't believe i went here they messed up my tacos i'm vegetarian . i asked for veggie tacos they gave meat. OBVI IM UPSET AB IT. love the folks though i'd take them out anytime
google avatar

Oleg K.

Yelp
I had carne asada fries which were pretty good. The service was quick and friendly, and the overall ambiance was very relaxed. I will definitely stop by again.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
I just came here for the opening of their new restaurant on Division! I got the hellarito filled with al pastor, and it was my favorite thing on the menu. It is also filled with house cut fries which gave me a breakfast burrito vibe. I also ordered asada zipper nachos and tacos. Personally the asada wasn't as flavorful as I would've liked; it didn't have the char and flavor like I'm used too. The tortillas for their tacos were also thicker than I imagined and it didn't hold up very well. I loved the chips for their nachos and would probably get this again with another choice of protein.
