The 25 Best Maui Restaurants, According to a Local Expert | Eater

"Unimpressive from the outside, this little lounge delivers a flavor-packed punch once you settle in. Lavishly hand-painted wallpaper and sea urchin lanterns serve as the backdrop for sophisticated libations, like the Thousand Peaks: a turquoise splash of mezcal and grapefruit liqueur topped with jasmine sea bubbles and garnished with a miniature surfboard. The zero-proof menu is just as cleverly conceived with fresh squeezed juice, dashes of electric blue spirulina, and milky sesame orgeat poured into elegant stemware. Bar snacks range from candied macadamia nuts to lettuce cups loaded with Chamorro-style shrimp and fresh coconut. Must-order drink: Let the bartender wet your whistle with a frozen rum cannonball shot: a slushy mix of Plantation Pineapple rum, bitters, locally grown vanilla, liliko‘i, and lemon, served in a crystal pineapple goblet." - Shannon Wianecki

Went for a tasting menu with a couple of Maui’s top chefs. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was upbeat and comfortable. Lots of attention to detail. I do not drink alcohol so the main bartender created a mocktail pairing for me that was fantastic!

Google
Can’t say enough good things about this bar. The drinks were amazing and the food was so delicious we just kept ordering more (if they have the pickled mango get that!). Victor and the crew were super welcoming and incredibly knowledgeable. This was the best food and best time we had on Maui which is a crazy high bar. Learned all kinds of new things about rum and local gins. Overall an amazing place and should be a top priority when you’re visiting the area.

Tikehau Lounge was hands down the best food and drink experience of our entire honeymoon in Maui. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere struck a perfect balance between relaxed island charm and the kind of refined, detail-driven service you’d find at LA’s Thunderbolt or NYC’s Dead Rabbit. The bar staff were not only incredibly friendly and welcoming, but also impressively knowledgeable and attentive. As someone with a severe peanut and tree nut allergy, I deeply appreciated how seriously they took my dietary needs—handling everything with care and consideration. One of the co-owners, Jeff, was on the floor himself, running drinks and checking in with guests to ensure everyone was having an exceptional experience. His passion for hospitality is palpable, and it shows in everything from the menu to the overall vibe. You can tell this place is a labor of love. Honestly, my only regret is that we only made it to Tikehau Lounge twice. If you're disappointed about not getting into Mama's Fish House, don’t be—this spot is a hidden gem that deserves just as much recognition.

This place is fantastic. I wish we could come here all the time. We are on vacation for our honeymoon and this became a favorite spot of ours the whole time we were here. We kept having to come back and try the different creative drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). On the first night, I was wanting some tea which they don’t normally have but the owner figured out how to make me a tea with some of the ingredients they had and it was amazing. The drinks are incredibly creative works of art, the food is fantastic, the people are amazing and the ambience is lovely. Highly recommend, I promise you will want to do return visits.

Usually I see 5 ⭐️and assume fake or too new. Not here they’re killing it and earning their stars. Great spot, the staff are amazing, great cocktails, if you’re in the Residence Inn or AC Marriott this is the move for easy and amazing. We went once and are going a second time on our short trip. ❤️ mahalo.

Google
Fantastic cocktail lounge in Kihei. We stopped by only for drinks and this place is such a vibe. You can see locals and tourists mingle and have a great time. We ordered their famous Mai Tai (trust me its the BEST on the island), banana stand (deserty cocktail), Thousand Peaks (fabulous) and another slushy cocktail but dont recollect the name. You can order cocktail and I am sure it will be amazing. The servers and bartender were fun and happy to accomodate any suggestions. Loved this place and highly recommend all their cocktails. Will visit when I am in town next.

A True Pacific Island Gem!! This restaurant is nothing short of a hidden island treasure. From the moment we stepped inside, we were immersed in an atmosphere that was both elegant and effortlessly cool—a perfect balance of upscale and relaxed. The decor is stunning and full of character, with thoughtful, artistic details everywhere you look. It truly feels like you’ve been transported somewhere special. We came for their Omakase night, and every course was an absolute masterpiece—mind-blowing in flavor, presentation, and creativity. Each dish was so well thought out, with island-inspired ingredients and a depth of flavor that made the whole evening feel like a culinary adventure. The cocktails (and mocktails!) are in a league of their own. I had the “Surf’s Up” mocktail, and it honestly made me forget I wasn’t drinking alcohol—so refreshing and layered. My husband had the “1944 Mai Tai,” and it was hands-down one of the best he’s ever had (and he’s tried quite a few!). The staff was incredible—warm, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what they do. Their attentiveness added so much to the experience without ever feeling intrusive. All in all, we had such a fun, intimate night here. If you’re looking for island-inspired fine dining with incredible vibes and world-class drinks, this place is a must-visit. We’re already planning our return. 🌴🍽️

LOVE this place!! So cute and such fun cocktails. Their happy hour was great, bartenders were so kind, music was great, overall lovely experience.

Yelp
Heard about this place on IG as the best place for drinks on the island. Now I know firsthand that it really is! Drinks were great, owner & staff are friendly. I had the Little Crush with tequila substitute (don't like vodka) & hubby had the Free Diver Old Fashioned.

Yelp
5/5 easy!!!! Our favorite drinks: coco curry and thousand peaks This is the ideal Pau Hana place. Incredible atmosphere with friendly, genuine staff. The cocktails are really works of art. If you're hungry there is food but the food menu is limited and it's just not the highlight of this place. In my head i'm going here for drinks not dinner.

Yelp
The drinks are top notch and you can taste the quality in the food. I love that they use local products/ingredients in their dishes. I thought the decor was very tasteful. It's not your typical cheesy tiki bar. They put thought into the details. Very mindful, very demur. The Lomi salmon shooter was my least favorite thing we had. But I grew up with traditional Lomi salmon and excepted it to be a little closer to that. Maybe it's just missing the onion? The Poisson Cru was a little different but it totally worked and you could taste the quality in the fish they served. I had a calamansi drink. I'm usually not a tequila fan but it sounded really good and it did not disappoint. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable.

Yelp
Incredible drinks and great service. Cool vibe. Glad we have a whole week to enjoy multiple visits

Yelp
Absolutely loved it here and so glad we stumbled upon it. BEST drinks I've had in Maui and friendliest staff. We loved talking to Maui, our bartender. Don't miss this stop if staying in the wailea area
google avatar

Yelp
Small but nicely appointed bar.., with plethora of craft cocktails for you!!!! The poisson cru was a surprisingly delicious way to begin are at this lounge. Next up, was a Lomi Lomi shooter consisting of salmon was a perfect follow up to the Cru. The seasonal pickles were actually the biggest surprise of all for me. I indulged on a NA Ube and coconut milk shaved ice. Meanwhile my daughter enjoyed a drink named 1000 peaks. Victor and DJ were very accommodating and filled us in on island history. Love love this place. Please visit it won't disappoint . Please see attached photos from our visit.

Yelp
This cute tiki bar was just a few blocks from our apartment in a small shopping development. The inside is beautifully done and the staff is really nice. Drinks were excellent - well balanced, not too sweet and presented nicely. Come during happy hour for deals!

Yelp
World-class craft cocktail bar, with an outstanding selection of tiki drinks and more. This is an absolute must visit spot on Maui. Tried many different drinks off their regular menu and specials, and all of them were outstanding. The quality of the ingredients (all fresh juices and local produce, all homemade orgeat and fat washed spirits, etc) used, combined with the creative recipes produced by the highly experienced seasoned bar staff, elevate Tikehau Lounge to the highest tier of craft cocktails. We met one of the co-owners, and all of the bar staff we interacted with was fabulous. After leaving Maui, we visited Skull & Crown Trading Co in Honolulu, and while that is a wonderful spot, Tikehau Lounge is operating at another level...it's that good. Call me crazy, but this bar will be the primary driver for me to return to Maui specifically when planning my next trip back to Hawaiian islands!

Yelp
Staff was very welcoming, had great drink recommendations! Koko Kuri was AWESOME! Will be back!

Yelp
Hidden gem in Wailea. We wanted somewhere chill to hang, stumbled across Tikehau Lounge. Delicious drinks and "pupus". Better than some "famous" food places we've been to in Maui - and also better Mai Tai's than the so called "best called" Mai Tain on the island, imo. Great service.
google avatar

Leo W.

Yelp
Contrary to the establishment pushing Merriman's Mai Tai, this cocktail bar has, by far, the best Mai Tai on Maui. Service was excellent, as were all of the other cocktails that I had. Prices are comparable to many of the other restaurants on the island--except in this case, your drinks are being made by professional bartenders who have spent years honing their cocktail craft (as opposed to pouring draft beers). Would highly recommend anyone looking for a great cocktail experience to come here.

Yelp
Love this spot and can't wait for my next visit. Located in the Wailea Village area (Close to Manolis, same row of buildings as Akamai Coffee but on the lower area) this bar & lounge is just what Wailea needed. Friendly greeting at the door and prompt service from the bartenders Dominic and Kevin. Started with an off menu old fashion riff "Coco Curry"? - loved the subtlety of the coconut. Got hit with a little mezzo/taster of the Rum Cannonball which is super cool (literally) slushy style drink. Tried the LomiLomi shooter which is basically a delicious bite of sashimi style salmon dressed up oyster shooter style. Couldn't stop there so I did the Poisson Cru as well. 10/10 on the pupus guys. Luvettteee. Finished with the strawberry negroni. Love the simplicity of it. Can't go wrong with a negroni. Unless you hate negronis. Well worth the prices. Great vibe all around. Fun decor to keep your attention. Great drinks, great food, great service.

Yelp
I had been wanting to try this spot for a while and it didn't disappoint. I loved the ambiance as well as the drinks. I need an excuse to go back. The service we fine as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Stoked to have another awesome craft cocktail bar on this side of the island and another classic tiki bar! Dominic was fantastic!

Yelp
Cannot say enough great things about this place. We found it on our first night and Maui and came back almost every night after for more. The staff were all super cool, friendly, attentive, and they made damn good drinks! We tried a few different drinks but kept returning to our favorites. Easily the best cocktails I've had in a long time! Great vibe in this place as well. Wish we lived local so we could hang out here more. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
10/10 tropical cocktails!! Perfect for an early cocktail before dinner. Very unique drinks, nice staff, cute vibe. It wasn't crowded at all when we went around 4pm
google avatar

Ali T.

Yelp
First visit here today and we met the owner. Very tastefully decorated and nice to learn more about the very beautiful wallpaper after I asked about it as very unusual. The food and cocktails were great. Walkable to the Shop at Wailea. I would recommend trying the cocktails. Mai Tai was very good!
google avatar

Stevie S.

Yelp
Average at best. I was expecting a "Tiki Bar", it isn't. Prices are wayyyy too high for what it is. I live here and won't be back.
google avatar

Jesse R.

Yelp
We stopped here on a recommendation from one of the locals, the drinks were great the service was good. The bar tender was informative in helping us try different drinks good times. Ambiance was relaxing and fun vibes..

Yelp
Great drinks good puppies fun service great good location they have the island spirit

Yelp
A few of us went here for Happy Hour last week and had a great time. The staff was super friendly!! Some tiki bars are more style than substance, but this spot had it both. They knew a ton about all things tiki drinks and you could tell they took their craft seriously. The drinks, staff, and vibe were all great! I highly recommend you make a visit to this spot if you are in the area.
google avatar

Jen D.

Yelp
The staff here is so friendly and attentive!! If you're having a snack, ask about the specials before ordering from the menu. I had the ahi carpaccio and it was amazing - so much flavor! I also had the Little Crush, without the Genepy, also delicious! They do not serve full dinner but their snacks and drinks are wonderful! I'll be back!
google avatar

Caleb R.

Yelp
Cute tiki bar with fun cocktails. Have tried a bunch of different drinks and all have been pretty great.
google avatar

MeghanEric R.

Yelp
Great vibe. Great drinks The owners are very personable ready to talk story while you enjoy a unique culinary experience. Drinks are potent and delicious. Get over here before the secret is out and you can't get a spot at the bar.
google avatar

Yelp
It's great that something new opened up especially a Tiki Bar. On the southside we really needed a high end tiki bar outside of the triangle. So, I went with a bud to check it out. Fun drinks and good food. There is ample parking. The ambiance is nice. It's Wailea so the crowd is respectful. Seating wasn't an issue as it's new and the tourists haven't heard about it yet and they will. Maybe they learn a new word other than "Monkeypod." I wish they played more Hawaiian music. What was played was a mix of reggae, island and some interesting alternative 80's. Hearing The Specials was cool so peppering that with some John Cruz would be great. Congrats on the new place and the vibe as well as the decor was awesome!
google avatar

Misty C.

Yelp
Amazing service! Friendly, knowledgeable...they didn't mind our annoying questions or demands for pictures. This a legitimate craft cocktail bar. Juices so fresh you could convince yourself it's a healthy spa smoothie. We didn't get to try a lot of the food but we did try the poi & poke. We loved it! But if you're a purist/traditionalist or have an aversion to ginger you might be disappointed.
google avatar

Sam M.

Yelp
Great new cocktail bar in Wailea! Tasty cocktails. Fell in love with the Rum Cannonball, an adult slushy!

Helen V.

Yelp
Looks dark from the outside with its tinted windows, but once you open the door, the interior is vibrant with walls covered in tropical motifs and a welcoming bar and staff. Keep going and you'll find fresh outdoor patio seating. Came during the holidays so I had to get one of their holiday cocktails - Got the "Oaxacan in a Winter Wonderland." I usually don't like smokey drinks, but the mezcal with rum, macadamia nut milk, and coco cream make a very cozy and refreshing drink! For pupus, got the Smoked Taro Hummus, and ooooo so tasty! A great kalo take on the classic hummus dip. Would love to see this place get more love. Menu says Happy Hour is 3:00-4:30 PM for 3 drinks: Tropical Mai Tai, Rum Cannonball, Seasonal Daiquiri ($11-$13). They can also make a handful of their drinks non-alcoholic. Try 'em!
google avatar

Jane S.

Yelp
This lounge is the whole package! Atmosphere is light and fun (WITH outdoor seating!!!), decor is island whimsical, and the libations are clearly hand crafted with love and care. With ingredients sourced from the island and each one recognizable in its own right, this experience is unmatched. If you haven't gone-GO. If you've gone and loved it (how could you not?) go again and spread the word!!!

Anon R.

Yelp
This is by far the best cocktail bar we have been to in Hawaii. Great real classic tiki drinks, modern inventive cocktails, delicious tropical drinks, real tasting cocktails, and on top of that top quality food. We just tried this place for the first time and are changing around our weekend plans to make sure we are back each night to come back here. It is that good!!!!
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
The service is great, drinks delicious- Calamansi Dream is one of the best tequila cocktails I've ever had. Great spot for anyone staying in the area and they do food events
google avatar

Sheila P.

Yelp
I know what you're thinking if you've never been here before, and the answer is: YES!!!! The drinks actually do taste as good as they look!
google avatar

Nancy V.

Yelp
Wow! This bar is literally the best bar I have ever been to. Delicious food, creative drinks , and a friendly staff. Topped off with beautiful decor and fun music. Don't miss the poke and poi. I had the premium Mai Tai. Sooo worth the upgrade.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Excellent food, service and drinks. Their 1944 Mai Tai is the best on the island. Ask about the mask on the wall and other artifacts throughout. Definitely stop here if you're big into tiki drinks.

December D.

Yelp
Welcoming hospitality, great atmosphere, friendly staff, great music. We didn't want to leave:)
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
This is one of the only craft cocktail bars in the area. Ambiance is adorable and their drinks are even better. Servers aim to please. We have already gone twice on our trip and will be back again before we leave.

Loretta H.

Yelp
Great new place for cocktails (and appetizers)! Craft cocktails are unique and delicious. Great service, decor and vibe.
google avatar

Robert O.

Yelp
Quality cocktail bar with complex appetizers. Victor is an expert mixologist. Ambiance is stellar and you can't beat the vibes.
google avatar

Alison N.

Yelp
What a great place!! We will be back. The service and drinks were great!! We learned a lot about where different alcohol came from. DJ was great!! This place will become a new must stop for us.

Mary A.

Yelp
Amazing new little cocktail lounge perfect for Pau Hana! Locally sourced craft cocktails- can't beat it! Highly recommend

Amy M.

Yelp
Stopped in for Happy Hour during their first week open. We had a great experience! Friendly staff, delicious drinks, and great ambiance. We had both of the happy hour cocktails, the Tropical Mai Tai and the seasonal Daiquiri. Highly recommend!

E M.

Yelp
Not a spot for locals. They charge resort prices for tiny cocktails. Paid $17 for sliders, and got 2 tiny sliders. There's much better places all over Kihei and Wailea. Sadly, I don't see them doing very well in slow season when the tourists aren't everywhere. The staff was very friendly at least!

Keith S.

Yelp
Incredible hospitality, food, attention to detail. Brilliant combo of flavors. The seasonal pickles are great, Thank you Jeff and Kai!

Alison C.

Yelp
I am so happy this bar opened up. The staff and the atmosphere are so great, and you can't miss with any of the drinks or pupus. I've loved everything I've tried so far and can't wait to go back!
