"Tiki is a tiki bar in Midtown Village that you go to when you want to feel like you’re at a college party for the night. It’s two floors, both of which are equally rowdy, and they serve large format drinks in things like mini Yeti coolers. You’ll see a lot of drunk people singing along to Fall Out Boy and Usher and will probably get stepped on at least once by someone jumping off of an elevated surface, but that’s why you come here - to drink a lot and pretend you’re still in the age range that wakes up without hangovers." - Sydney McElwee

I was there on a Thursday night. Not too big of a crowd. Drinks were delicious! If you like Pirates of the Caribbean this is an upscale version of that! We arrived close to closing time so only had time for one drink. Will definitely be back next month!

Update: Still one of my favorite go to spots. The staff is great. The drinks are great. Their rotating specials are an awesome way to bring a little extra excitement to the place. Great merch. Just overall an excellent place to be. Original review: Absolutely the best bar in town. Tiki-Ko is a full immersion experience, from the drinks to the decor and more! Their tiki theme definitely supports their name. Tiki-Ko is on the smaller side so if you arrive when it’s busy, don’t be surprised that there’s a line. Hop in line and wait as it’s not too bad and it’s worth it. Drinks are a little more on the expensive side but fear not, there’s plenty in them and their flavors will transport you to a relaxing island somewhere beautiful. The bartenders are top notch. They are super friendly so don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with them. They’re also excellent in their craft. Be sure to catch their sister bar on the weekends, The Sinking Ship, a few doors down. It’s all the same great things in a bigger space with a nautical/tiki theme. The rotating drink options and cool swag definitely add to the experience too! Also check them out for their fun seasonal offerings. Just don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself and enjoy! Cheers!

If you're in the mood for a fun, tropical escape in the heart of Bakersfield, Tiki-Ko is the place to go. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a vibrant tiki bar atmosphere, complete with bamboo accents, island-inspired decor, and dim lighting that sets a laid-back, vacation-like vibe. The drink menu is a highlight, with a variety of colorful, rum-based cocktails that stay true to tiki traditions. You can’t go wrong with classics like the Mai Tai or the Zombie, both of which pack a punch but taste deliciously refreshing.

This place is a hidden gem! We came here by chance, and the place is as charming and cute as it gets. The main bar is on the upper part, but they have a speak easy bar downstairs. Really nicely decor, and they have an amazing selection of cocktails specially Rum based ones. The place seats small and large parties. It’s certainly a super cute place for a date night or friends get together. The service was amazing on the main bar.

Nice Tiki bar located in downtown bekersfiled. Had a night out with friends here. Drink are good if you like them, sweet. Usually, it becomes packed at night. The layout is interesting. Very ship themed, but cool place no less.

We went here, but it's very small and there was no room for us.So we turned around and walked out and left.I wish they had that rooftop bar like they said they did. Great place for very young people would not for us

Google
Me and my friend were so excited to come check this place out since we’d never been there before and we wanted a new place to hang out. We had barely walked into the bar and the bouncer or bartender who was “checking IDs” was insanely rude to us. Instead of asking for our DL/ID. He DEMANDS it and says he “needs” it. Since we weren’t with another party of an older crowd. We were dressed nice and were ready to spend money and have a good time instead we left with a bad taste in our mouth due to a worker having a bad day. Sadly he completely turned me off to the entire place, even though, the inside is pretty cool. We will not be returning again!

Yelp
The Bar is an immersive experience that feels like stepping aboard a ship lost at sea, far away from Bakersfield. The atmospheric lighting and decor transport you to another world, making it a unique and captivating place to visit. The drinks are strong and delicious. My sister enjoyed the Piña Colada, and I had the 3 Dots and a Dash. Both were expertly crafted by the talented bartenders. The drinks are potent, so much so that after one, I found myself needing to seek out food. It would be great if they could add some finger food to their menu to complement the drinks. Overall, it's a fantastic place with a magical ambiance and great cocktails.

Yelp
Go down the stairs and you'll find yourself a cute little ship wrecked speak easy! The staff is great - they will make you a STRONG drink for the more expensive prices. Well worth!

Yelp
We went to the basement part called "sunken ship". OMG!!!!! This is a must visit place. It's like a Disneyland pirates of the Caribbean experience . From the front door to the bar area and even to the bathrooms, every inch of this place was detailed so brilliantly keeping within the pirate/ shipwrecked theme. Large booth areas for larger parties . Staff was friendly . Place was really clean. Now let's get to the drinks . 10/10. Great and fun selection . Presentation spot on tiki bar. Closes at 11 when we went which was good because it made us leave . If not we would have drunk way too much. . Love this place. A must visit .

Yelp
A hidden gem in kern county with tropical drinks , vibes and ambiance. The atmosphere is chill and it's a nice spot to getaway and have quick drink without a hectic environment. The bartenders are chill and the service is excellent it seems like they have regulars in there all the time. We showed up on Friday evening about 7:00 pm and it was nice and calm not busy at all we had good conversations with the bartenders and some of the regulars. I went with the Stiggins old fashion and my wife had the Blue Hawaii both drinks were delicious. I will definitely be returning in the near future to try something else on the drink menu. Oh! they have plenty of other liquors besides Rum so don't worry if you don't see what you want on the bar menu I'm sure they could make you a custom drink.

Yelp
What a fun experience! The drinks are amazing and the vibe is great. Staff are so friendly--Bernie took great care of us. I've been to many tiki bars and would definitely recommend this one!

Yelp
On a Sunday afternoon talking to the bartender about the history of this place. So cool to know the many places this establishment has been. Ambiance is so cool. Got that trendy vibe with hula atmosphere. Get ready to relax and chill with a signature drink.

Mike H.

Yelp
Great little tiki bar with fantastic drinks.. Price is in line with most tiki bars we have been too, not a place to belly up to a bar all day at, but perfect for a drink or two after work or before dinner at one of the great restaurants within a couple of hundred yards away. Bartenders are friendly and talkative. Always have a good time here.. Our favorite drink in the Ultimo Hombre which is their spin on a margaria.

Yelp
Have always enjoyed tiki bars and when I found out about Tiki-Ko a year ago, it has always been on my list to visit! Finally was able to visit tonight and loved it. The outside wasn't appeal to the eye but I knew that the inside would not disappoint. It was well decorated and loved the entire vibe of it all. We ordered three drinks total: 3 Dots and A Dash, Shark Attack, and 151 Swizzle (all in order in the picture). I would think that the 3 Dots had a stronger taste while Shark Attack had the sweetest. 151 Swizzle was surprisingly enjoyable, I thought I wouldn't since it contained a lot of strong liquor. Loved the evening, the service was great, would love to come back again :)

Yelp
What a fun place! The patrons are friendly. The Tiki Decor is colorful lively and welcoming. Although they have a full bar they specialize in Hawaiian cocktails. Gabby was our fabulous mixologist this evening. She was friendly, helpful and informative gladly answering all our questions. The drinks are colorful with creative garnishes tropically themed. I ordered the Chief Lapu Lapu. She happily adjusted my drink with less sugar and it was delicious. My companion had the A La Playa, very tasty as well. For a fun evening with a twist I highly recommend Tiki-Ko!

Bethany R.

Yelp
what a dream to have tiki-ko and their sinking ship room in Bakersfield our own little oasis in the desert heat. The tiki -ko proper is a cozy bar with charm and neighborhood vibes and the sinking ship room is a Disneyland style experience. You are transported to trader Sam's and adventure land. It's like sitting at a Tiki bar inside pirates of the Caribbean ride. SERIOUSLY THE COOLEST. The drinks are big, delicious, really a treat. Some places the atmosphere is cool but the drinks not great but that's not case here, drinks are sublime - we had the pain killer and a la playa. We had such a fun time and enjoyed our drinks

Yelp
I love this place so damn much. I first came here from LA with a large group of friends not long after they opened. I think 40 of us descended on them that day. The owners and staff couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. Cut to this past Saturday when I visited again from LA with a couple of friends. It is still an absolute gem with the nicest staff and excellent drinks. We had Singapore Slings, Saturns, and a Painkiller. One of my friends, who is a professional bartender, said it was just about the best Saturn she'd ever had. All of the drinks were made by the utterly endearing Benny. We then went downstairs to the Sinking Ship, which exceeded our expectations. Again, stellar drinks and service. It is a very handsome space and much roomier than I expected. No trip to Bakersfield is complete without a visit to Tiki-Ko. GO!

Yelp
Oh the special place Tiki-Ko holds in my heart! Any day of the week I will gladly be here. They have the best drinks and friendliest staff, I've been coming here for years and I cannot believe I have not posted a review yet. Whether you live here or are just stopping by, do yourself a favor and head inside Tiki-Ko or downstairs to Sinking Ship! Personally my go to drink is a Blue Hawaii but I love trying their specials or if you're looking for a beer they've got that too! Whatever you're looking for, give 'em a try you won't regret it.

Yelp
A total gem of Bakersfield! I'm a big tiki fan, and have been wanting to stop by Tiki-Ko on my next trip through the Central Valley. It FINALLY happened, and I'm so happy it did! Tiki-Ko holds its own with the "big" classic tiki names in SoCal, like Tiki-Ti and Strongwater. We were able to snag seats at the bar and order right away. My partner got the El Duderino, a coffee based rum drink topped with whipped cream. He loved it!! I got the Chief Lapu Lapu, which was equally loved. And we split a Mai Tai for good measure. ;) The atmosphere was great -- scenery, music, other patrons. Service was great -- we came in during a bit of a "rush" and I was so impressed that the bartenders never lost their cool and served everyone with ease. As you can see from the pictures, the drinks were definitely picture perfect. Quality inside and out! I'll be looking for another reason to pass through Bakersfield just so I can stop at Tiki-Ko!

Trini S.

Yelp
Am I in Bakersfield? This place is sure to wow! Walked in to a dark, intimate little bar on an alley corner. We got much more than expected. The bartenders were friendly and quick to recommend a drink based on our preferences. We all had the "Ultimo hombre." The drink was tasty, fresh and had the perfect amount of spicy, if you're into that sort of thing. The decor is quirky and fun! Stop in for a quick drink before dinner or a concert!

Anmol L.

Yelp
The place was a bit expensive, but every town needs a good tiki drinks place! The outside was a bit sketchy (there was trash and some worrying fellows outside). Luckily there was a bouncer outside making sure everyone was of age. The bartenders were fast and knowledgeable. I enjoy the whole tiki experience. The drinks were very interesting! I was able to try a bunch of rum that are not readily available! The drinks were very unique and had such uncanny tastes. They had many very cool mugs that you can choose to get along your drink... my only gripe is wondering what's the point of offering drinks with specific mugs if you can only experience that if you buy the mugs. Many other places let's you enjoy the drink in the custom mug, but then upgrade to keep the mug. I hope the critique is not unfair to say.

Yelp
It was like if you were at the ticket room in this land but at the dot side you definitely have to come and see the experience of a hawaiian vibes It is a great place. It's like the tiki Room in Disneyland, but I take a Rome. I don't area. I loved it. The environment was amazing. The servers Benny and Bernie The bartenders were amazing. Such a great hostess not on evad, but they were able to provide us with a great tour and great drinks throughout the night. Love. The place is an amazing decoration, an amazing environment. It's just a place that I want to come back Definitely will recommend 100 %. Thank you, guys

Yelp
Everything at this place is amazing. Great place to have a tropical drink and relax. The bartender was the best, couldn't have had better service.

Jason H.

Yelp
Great atmosphere Fantastic decor Great drink selection Friendly service High priced drinks Definitely recommend

Destinee S.

Yelp
Update: took my brother here for his 21st, and they even had great mocktails. The bartender was awesome at helping me figure out drinks he could have, and he helped me with some tasty cocktails. The Singapore Sling was so cute too! I would 100% go back.

Kelly S.

Yelp
This is a total package kinda place. Delicious drinks quirky decor, fun vibe + the people..., extremely friendly, fast and attentive staff. You can tell they all love tiki not just during work hours. Street level is a fun, Blue Hawaii lounge vibe. Lots of Witco style decor, tiki, tapa-cloth lamps handmade by the staff. Fun island lounge vibe upstairs a, top drinks: Saturn Rum Barrel Mary Ann Navy Grog Stiggin's Old Fashion Then, head downstairs to get ye a pirate-style adventure! The ceiling is covered in a giant pirate map. Jade tiles, portholes play video of fish in the water. Drinks include a few of the items up top, but also some newbies. Got the painkiller (avails both up and down) and it was delicious). Then home because we had to get sleep before we vended at the Central California Tiki Market. & a bunch of the staff showed before work to check out our wares. Didn't know what I'd think of Bakersfield, as a kid it was always a place we passed through on the way to so R where else) but I will definitely return IG just to grab a midway cocktail from this lively band of tiki fans.

Scott B.

Yelp
Upon stepping in to this establishment it's a beautiful bar, the drinks were really good the decor was on point. The only thing lacking was the music, to really tie the whole tiki escapism together is the music. Play some Martin Denny, Les Baxter and it would really bring it all together.

Natalie S.

Yelp
If you are looking for a fun, dimly lit but colorfully decorated Polynesian themed bar experience you have to come to Tiki-Ko. The drinks are cute, fruity, and sweet and make it a cool time. The crowd was chill and the service was too; you order at the bar but the bartenders were attentive even when there was a small line forming. It's a fun unique vibe and not one I would expect in Bako!

G A.

Yelp
The ambience is immersive of an escape to a great time. the service is A mazing!! They don't serve food but if you're lucky you can catch a pretty delicious smash burger just outside.

Eric A.

Yelp
it was my first time there, and both bartenders were great. The drinks were great, definitely coming back, and I'm definitely recommending it to all my friends.

McKenzie S.

Yelp
Tiki-Ko always manages to perk up my mood. Just walking in those unassuming doors and into that cool, cheery oasis is mind-altering. From the ambiance to the drinks, and right down to the heart of Tiki-Ko, it's bartenders you'll feel right at home. We had a pretty dismal experience at another establishment around the corner and headed here before dinner for a few cocktails. We were greeted with warm welcomes and found ourselves a spot at the bar. Our server was busy, but still managed to be super efficient and never left us feeling as though we were forgotten. We appreciated his great attitude and his skill at drinks. In all, Tiki-Ko (whether you visit the original or Sunken Ship) you'll find yourself in good hands. Tiki-Ko is never a bad idea.

LeAnna L.

Yelp
Have been a Few Enjoy the Drinks the service Nice Place for small group our Just for two

Amanda D.

Yelp
I'm leaving two reviews here: one for Tiki-Ko and one for The Sinking Ship. Tiki-Ko: I'm not big into the tiki scene, but my mom is, and since we had business in Exeter, we decided to stop in here. The ambience inside was all over the place (like tiki bars are supposed to be), lots to look at. I can't say anything about the drinks as I did not drink (can't very well drink alcohol and then go get a tattoo). But great ambiance and very friendly bartenders. Gabrielle was very very attentive and very sweet! Sinking Ship: This was more my thing, still tiki, but a lot more pirate/ship (no duh, the name alone should have clued me in). Much preferred the ambience in here as it was decorated so nicely! Not nearly as busy (decor wise) as Tiki-Ko but still, lots to look at. Again, can't say anything about the drinks as I did not drink (can't very well drink alcohol and then go get a tattoo). But great ambiance and friendly people. Sinking Ship though is downstairs, and I have a bad hip, so that wasn't fun, but the bouncer was super nice to me having to go so slow up and down, and even moved over as far as he could so I could have ALL the room. The bouncer- I see a lot of negative comments about him. Why? He's a very cool dude. Super sweet man.

Maley L.

Yelp
Umm.. did I just find the RAREST gem in Bakersfield?! LOVED Tiki-Ko! They have a large variety of savvy drinks! I am a sucker for "in-house" creations and this spot has ALL of them! My only wish was able to drink more! Talk about delicious STIFF drinks! Wow, I can see myself stopping by for a good time and/or a pregame for a night out! *Vibes: 5/5: All I needed was a flower lei! *Drinks: 5/5: STIFF DRINKS, original cocktails, and purpose of presentation (cups and garnishes were everything)! *Bartenders: 5/5: Customer service was everything. The only thing I can see is that this place is TINY but well worth it! All in all, if you love a stiff delicious drink stop on by, you won't regret it!

Gerardo M.

Yelp
Uhhhhhh maze ing!!!!!!! Very welcoming the Puerto Rican sunset on Sundays menu is my NEW FAVORITE drink EVER!!!!! Enjoy!!! You won't be disappointed.

Emilie A.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots to go, and even better that it's so centrally located! Tiki-Ko has been my go to bar in Bakersfield. There's nothing better than feeling like you're on a tropical vacation far away from the heat. Everything from the seasonal drinks to their everyday drinks have been absolutely delicious! My go-to is usually is a Blue Hawaii or a fun seasonal drink! The best part about Tiki-Ko is the people (shoutout to Bernie & Benny)! The bartenders are SO friendly and always really helpful if you don't know what you'd like! Tiki-Ko just creates a wonderful oasis atmosphere that you just have to escape to!

Nadia A.

Yelp
This place is a treat! I'm actually upset that I didn't know about it earlier. We went around 8:45pm on a Saturday and waited for a few minutes to get in. The ambiance and setup is perfect. I've been to a few tiki bars in different cities and this is definitely at the top of the list. The space is cute and intimate. We grabbed a seat near the back wall and studied the menu. There are several cocktails to choose from. We tried 4 different cocktails between 2 people and were happy with each one. They're well prepared, aesthetically pleasing, and delicious. The bartenders are friendly and work quickly. There were families, couples, friends- there's room for everyone here and it's not very crowded. The balance is ideal. There was a longer line around 11pm when we were leaving so you can decide what time suits you. I wish they served some food or snacks to go with the drinks but that's a minor suggestion. I'll happily come back any chance I get!

Jay G.

Yelp
Small place upstairs, but they have good drinks with a nice ambiance and friendly bartenders.

Bill T.

Yelp
congrats Tiki-Ko. In my wifes 65+ years on this earth she has never been denied entry into a bar before until last night at Tiki-ko. 4 of us age 50-68 had a nice dinner at mama roombas and walked in the rain to Tiki-ko (nice short walk). The streets, restaurants and bars were empty as it was a Wednesday night around 7:30 pm with light to moderate rain. Surprised-shocked really due to all of our ages, the bouncer asked for our ID (it had to be a "drivers license in his hands"). Because of the rain my wife did not bring her purse (I was in charge of paying for things last night) but she had a copy of her Driver license as well as her passport handy in her phone. The obstinant bouncer would not even look at her phone--he insisted that all that would do was if he had her "drivers License in his hand". I should point out that beyond the ridiculousness of this request because of all of our ages, in the day of covid shouldn't he have gloves on/using hand sanitizer and preferably avoiding hand contact in the first place. Everywhere else in the world (sporting events, concerts, airlines, etc, etc, etc) the trend is to show info/ID/tickets on your phone---not give paperwork/etc to someone elses filthy hand and potentially spread disease. If the 18 year old grocery store clerk can tell when someone is clearly over 40 years old and all others will be carded, why is it that someone hired to be a bouncer, whose main job is to let people in, can't even tell that we are 3 x's the legal age of 21 y/o. If he is such an untrustworthy employee that even 90 year olds need to hand over their drivers license to him then he should not be employed. The owners of Tiki-ko should be ashamed of having him as an employee and or be ashamed of themselves for making such a ridiculous rule for him to follow religiously with no room for common sense. If you are having a problem with underage entry into your establishment, I can assure you that harassing and denying 50+ year olds will not help that problem. I hope you enjoy your 18-30 y/o clientele--I can assure you you will never have a visitation from us or anyone we tell our story to. Owners, it's time to wake up and fix this issue if you want to attract us and those of similar age to you establishment. P.S. my average review--around 500+/yr is a 4.2---congrats on your 1 star review--you deserve it. PS--we walked a couple of blocks and had a wonderful evening at Foxtails.

Maria V.

Yelp
5 stars for the service. Stark contrast to the seedy lame bar that is Alleycat. Didnt catch their names but shorter male and tall slender male bartenders were very nice. We enjoyed the drinks and effort put into the fun cocktails. Musisc was right volume. Great vibes and don't forget to go next door to their sister bar.

Jill W.

Yelp
Fun! I especially recommend The Sinking Ship portion of the bar in the basement if you need your Pirates of the Caribbean fix.

Samuel B.

Yelp
This place reminds me of a awkward 3 some. It's kinda like trying to get hard while looking at a fat man's backside. Weird

Jessica M.

Yelp
Love this place.. my husband and I attend a Tiki Market they hosted in the parking. After spending the day shopping and making friends we headed to the Sunken Ship.... Amazing. They had a rum tasting happening and we were lucky to get seats at the bar, where Taylor took really good care of us. She made us comfortable and she made us good tiki drinks. Then we headed to Tiki Ko upstairs where Spongi treated us like we were VIP. He made one of the best Zombie drinks ever. Everyone is so friendly and even the customers were friendly. Been here twice and I don't mind doing the two hr drive to go here

Carla H.

Yelp
Terrible experience with a bouncer/employee last night. We were attempting to celebrate our friend's 21st birthday and after the bartender served him, this particular employee came and took the drink from his hand, stating he couldn't be served until the next business day following his birthday and then proceeded to tell him that he had to wait outside. Not the hugest deal, I guess, except for the employee's terribly rude tone. As we were leaving, the employee pushed past us on the stairs and demanded to check the purses of the ladies in the group as we were literally walking out the door... essentially holding us hostage in the stairwell until we showed him our bags... not okay.

Mike C.

Yelp
Had a painkiller at the sinking ship. The drink was great and place was very cool. Like the bar decor it puts you in the mood for a tropical drink. I would most definitely go back

Vanessa M.

Yelp
The vibes are great here and the drinks are even better. They have a mug club that you can join. Overall would visit again when in the area!

Roberta H.

Yelp
The ambiance was very nice and fit the theme well. Our Bartender, Gabby, was attentive and knowledgeable regarding the drink history. We will be back:)

Jay S.

Yelp
The drinks here are always tasty. The service is good and the staff is friendly. The little spot has chill, beach vibes. Definitely a must stop when downtown in Bakersfield.

Emily N.

Yelp
The drinks are wonderful Tiki drinks! Classic, good and reliable. If you're in Bakersfield, give them a visit!

Michelle W.

Yelp
Horrifically rude long-bearded guy at the front door. RUN don't walk to another place in Downtown Bako...there are plenty. Tried to visit on a rainy Tuesday night - just wanted to have a drink with friends. We're also middle-aged parents out after dinner on a weeknight - this guy is something else. Having a real bad life apparently. *AVOID*

Gabriela ..

Yelp
WE LOVE TIKIKO/sinking ship, the drinks are so good I wish I could have all of them. Shark attack and Saturn are my personal faves, service is awesome but my favorite thing is the ambiance, it has this chill hang out kind of vibe to it. Top3 bars in Bakersfield in my books !!!

Shawn B.

Yelp
WE have traveled far and wide to may bars, and tiki bars! This is by far the best one we have ever been to! the love the owners and staff have for tiki is obvious in all the time and love they put into the Decor, Drinks, and service!! thank you for such a beautiful addition to Bakersfield! And if you get a chance to reserve a booth in The sinking Ship, you will NOT regret it! Shawn and Robin B
