The Best New Cocktail Bars in New Orleans

"The recently reopened Frenchmen Hotel has a new bar to offer a respite from Frenchmen Street chaos, a tropical, tiki-themed spot that extends to the hotel’s rooftop. Walk through a cool clock-lined carriageway to find a funky backyard bar and sample extravagant drinks like a Parakeet: rum, Velvet Falernum, Le Verger Liqueur, lime, tiki spice syrup, and egg white. There’s also a show-stopping volcano bowl, the Mount Pelee, a few frozen options, and a few intricate non-alcoholic cocktails." - Clair Lorell, Eater Staff

If you love tiki drinks you gotta come here! The decor is stylish and fun and playing great music. And of course the drinks are solid. Would absolutely come here if visiting Frenchman st or just NOLA in general!

My partner is absolutely obsessed with tiki bars and loved this place. The bartender is a really cool chick, very fun to talk to and very patient with drunk people (underrated skillset). We tried several drinks, but the banana one was my absolute favorite. The Zombie (limit 2) was a close second and a great to go option.

This a beautiful bar with a rooftop. Delicious drinks both alcoholic and nonalcoholic. The rooftop is quiet and cozy. Good spot to watch the sunset and unwind.

*UPDATE* We went back for another try and they have definitely improved. Service was better, I had the San Ildefonso Swizzle and it was a well executed mezcal cocktail. The Privateer was heavy on the allspice but a decent autumn drink. Most of the other people in our group still thought the drinks were on the weaker side for tiki, but I would go back. We spoke with the manager who said he appreciated our feedback and was using it to improve. He said they still had some work to do but improvement was their focus. **PARKING NOTE** Beware of the parking lot in the block behind the place. It appears to be one lot but the first two rows are separated by yellow blocks and the sign says to pay at the "entrance"...well to the right of the entrance is a pay station so that's where we paid. We didn't even see the other pay station that looks similar to the other one. When we came out our car was booted along with every other one parked in our row, so we weren't the only ones! It cost us $130 to have it removed. They were extremely rude and didn't care that it was an honest mistake...in fact he called us idiots for not knowing how to read a sign then proceeded to argue with us, and said yes ma'am to my husband and called him a vulgar name as we drove off...not the fault of this place just wanted to warn anyone parking there. *ORIGINAL REVIEW* We were excited to visit here and was very quickly disappointed. We got there when they first opened at 4 pm on a Friday, they weren't super busy, maybe 6 people sitting at the bar. We ordered a Jungle Bird and Mai Tai, both were very weak, watered down and not at all what they should taste like. The Jungle Bird, while supposed to have a bitterness with the Campari, was all bitters and hardly any rum. The other 2 bartenders were unprepared to be "open", completely uninterested in helping customers while refilling stuff, never made eye contact...one of them even picked up our empty glass, she washed it and didn't bother to ask if we wanted another! We felt very unwelcome, so flagged down the original bartender that served us and got our check and went somewhere else. Also it was very hot, they should probably have more fans. We are coming back with a group next month so I really hope things improve and I can update this review.

Good place for one drink if you want a picture for your socials. Staff was friendly, drinks were okay not great overly sweet and sour. Cool place tho a little toasty if you aren’t right by a fan but is what it is.

While it doesn't have a full on tiki experience in terms of layered decor, the drinks are on point. They just celebrated one year in business and the (awesome) bartender was telling us they should start having some branded bar ephemera, mug or two, etc. It is an outdoor bar in a beautiful back courtyard at the Frenchman.

9/23/23 *Update* I made another visit today. It was a totally different experience, and I have changed my rating. There was much better service this time around, and the drinks were not watered down as before. I was able to speak with the gentleman who runs this place and he said they made some adjustments to the mixing to prevent the watered-down drink, and it showed this visit. I travel all over the US visiting Tiki bars, so I was excited to see a new Tiki Bar open in NOLA. Went in and ordered a drink (Mai Tai). It was quite watered down and was a bit disappointing. Then I sat there and sat there, and sat there. One of the three bartenders came up and took my empty glass, and 30 minutes later, I was still sitting at the bar waiting. While I sat there, I counted the number of people in the bar, and there were 12 people, so not very busy for three bartenders. I finally had to flag one of the bartenders down to get my bill and bounced to Latitude 29, where the service was outstanding. Never had to ask for another drink there as the bartender (1) was on top of things. A friend of mine went a couple of weeks later and said the drinks were too watered down as well. I'll be giving these guys one more shot soon, so there may be an update to this review.

Basically a fun tiki bar. Planter's Punch is the cronic, served in stylish cobra chalice with fire. A good stop of you are wandering around.

Yelp
Nice new hang out spot in the quarter with a hipster vibe. Their specialty drinks are very unique festive. There's lots of seating downstairs and upstairs that can probably fit 100 comfortably. Bar tenders are swift and attentive. Cool chill spot to catch up with friends!

Yelp
While hanging out on Frenchmen Street, we stopped at the Toki Tock that my wife had found while exploring the French Quarter and walked onto Frenchmen Street (which is located just outside of it). This tiki bar is super amazing and fun to enjoy some Polynesian-inspired cocktails, the red-lit, tiki-designed ambiance, the music playing from the speakers, and the laid-back vibes. Located next to the Frenchmen Hotel, you enter through an elongated hallway that leads you into the tiki lounge. Tiki Tock is quite a tropical world of spiritual oneness, a tiki hut fantasy. The lounge area is quite spacious, with a handful of tables that lead up to an elevated stage area that serves as a lounge area but could also, I'm sure, be used for live music. We grabbed a spot at the bar, where we ordered some really delicious cocktails served in very exotic glasses and mugs. For my money, the Navy Grog and the Jungle Bird were excellent. If you're staying at the Frenchmen Hotel, there is a set of stairs that leads up to the lobby and the rooms. So, if you have had a couple of drinks too many, you just have to drag yourself up the stairs. Otherwise, you need to grab a cab to head back from where you came.

Yelp
This is such a cool spot! A friend scoped out some good spots while we were in town for a work conference and this place was a fun little place. It's tucked back down a hallway from the street. When you enter you feel like you're at a tiki bar. Lots of drink options to suit anyone and cool glassware makes it taste even better. The bartender was patient while we scoured the menu, answering questions and offering suggestions. We sipped and chatted at one of the umbrellas. Could have stayed all night but in NOLA we had to check out more spots!

Yelp
While visiting NOLA we had to try the newest tiki bar. Great experience with great drinks. The hotel manager stopped to talk and shared a preview of their mug on order. Prefect outside Tiki ambiance.

Yelp
Cool new spot I just happened upon! Tiki Tock plays off of the tick tock of clocks as you discover walking down the entrance to a long beaded curtain. Inside, rather-outside in the spacious courtyard are multiple seating areas-perfect for a party! Wide array of drinks to choose from and super friendly staff. I got the parakeet cocktail as I needed something small to go and not only was it delicious, but garnished with a beautiful flower! Definitely need to go back when I've got more time to chill.

Yelp
This bar is an awesome tropical hideaway in NOLA. We tried the banana drink and it was delicious. The woman working the bar was pretty rude unfortunately. Very unwelcoming. And we came early in the evening around 7 or 8. Cool bar otherwise.

Yelp
Outdoor only tiki bar with a cute laid back atmosphere and very fun drinks. This place is right on the foot of Frenchman street, so great place to meet up with friends to start your night before hitting up the Nola music scene. Lots of seating area and bar tender is great! No food options, so it's a drinks spot!

Yelp
I was overjoyed to hear that there's a new Tiki bar in town. I'm a diehard fan of Latitude 29 and used to love Tiki Tolteca (RIP) and of course I have my favorites in every city across the US. Consider me Tiki-obsessed. We rushed right over as soon as we heard it opened. The vibe is five stars all around: all of it's outside with a lush setting (thatched umbrellas provide shade if you're not in one of the covered areas). It's really beautiful, a haven on Frenchman Street (perfect for ducking out of the mayhem on that street). The only thing missing is a lagoon (ahhhh the Tonga Room). The other important component is of course those ultra cool/silly tiki glasses and yes, they have those in droves (not sure if any are for sale. I am a collector). The drinks are good if you like 'em sweet and strong. They are not as expertly crafted as Lat 29, where the flavors are a bit more complex with subtle notes that you don't expect like pandan. I had a Garden Party which is frozen and minty (there's coconut rum in it but the sweetness was overpowering the coconut flavor). I liked it but being that you're outside and it's summer, it melts pretty quickly. I also ordered sparkling wine and it got warm in minutes, so I will probably avoid chilled wines until wintertime. The consensus of our group was that the other frozen drink available, a hurricane, should be avoided (but oh it's boozy so if you're looking to get a quick start on your night...) Looks like they have limited food options (pizza and meat pies) so you'll want to eat something before throwing back these potent drinks (you'll find an array of classics like a Mai Tai and Zombie as well as unique concoctions like the Kuawa Koa which has dragon fruit so I'll be trying that next time). Summertime in New Orleans just got more enjoyable. Paradise is within reach.

Yelp
First time here. We went around 6:30pm, we were the only 4 customers. Bar is cute, outdoors and only a little tiki. They don't serve food.

Yelp
This bar deserves more recognition. It's a hidden gem and has a very unique decor. There's partial indoors (partially covered, may get wet when it rains) and outdoors seating (upstairs) The drinks are so cute and refreshing.

Yelp
This place is so cute!! It definitely has the Tiki vibe with the cute seating areas! I didn't get a chance to see the upstairs part in person! The bartender was super funny & sweet! Most of the drinks are rum based so keep that in mind! The cups are the cutest! I decided on the Mai Tai which was ok! I'd say this would be a good stop after having dinner!

Yelp
This place is such a vibe! Spacious and outdoors, with dark decor and very, very boozy drinks. We went here twice because the bartender, Jen, was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable of the area...sharing plenty of welcome recommendations. Did I mention the drinks are boozy? Jen knows her way around a cocktail...I'm not sure what folks mean by "pre-mixed" when everything was mixed in front of us despite a large crowd. Don't skip! We loved it here.

Yelp
Walked by this place by accident and had to stop in. As of May 2023, this place has only been open for a few weeks, so not many people know about it yet. Hidden gem in NOLA! It has a really festive vibe with the tiki bar, fun seating areas, and roof top deck. The bartenders were really friendly, and helped me pick out a drink. The drink menu is visually cool and also has some really creative drinks. I had the Miss mermaid on the recommendation of the bartender. It has an espresso martini. Taste without espresso. There is a local chicory liqueur used. It was so easy to drink! Plus it came in a decorated glass. My friend had the privateer, which he said was good. A bit like an old fashioned. The restaurant has a really fun atmosphere and is very different from everything else in NOLA. I hope to go back again to try more drink on the menu.

Yelp
If you want to party in New Orleans and don't want the crowds take the trolley to the French Market stop and walk a block down and over you will find a whole bar district that is not over ran by tourists. This Tiki bar has some great drink selection. The open courtyard environment is a fun bright atmosphere. Staff is friendly and will help you choose the right drink for you and your party!!

Yelp
Cool themed bar on the edge of the quarter. Plenty of seating on the ground floor and the rooftop as well.

Yelp
Mai tai from a mix when there is no one here. Need i say more? Its bad replication of a tiki bar with nice bartenders who don't seem challenged so I can't tell you how good they are. Tiki bars require good, and slow, service because the drinks are inherently sweet and therefore need attention to detail to not simply suck. The drinks here are unthought of and designed for a picture on instagram rather than to be drink by someone who likes cocktails. You can get a good mai tai without pure sugar. Just not here. For example, I overheard a bartender asked for a dealers choice (admittedly by a drunk patron) admit that she will just make the easiest drink so don't pick that. Come on. At least try to pretender to like the job. G

Yelp
This is a great new spot on Frenchman St. Its a large covered space with a cool vibe. It also has a rooftop bar. When I told my bartender Jeremiah what I was in the mood for he fixed me the perfect cocktail. They have an extensive rum based tiki bar cocktail menu along with a selection of beer and wine. Just as a side note they only offer meat pies for food. So happy to have found a fun new place!

Belle K.

Yelp
The drinks are great. Menu includes classic tiki drinks. Bartenders are very well-versed with tiki. Modern tiki decor. No racist tiki faces anywhere = a huge plus. Oasis in city setting.

Yelp
Visited this tiki bar for my birthday. The bar looks really cool, and the decor was amazing. Unfortunately, we were met with a bartender that was more concerned with leaving early than providing good service. The bartender immediately explained that the bar was closing at 10pm, when the website advertised the bar being open until 11pm. Next the bartender put our cocktails in Togo plastic cups. The three cocktails totaled $50. Part of the expense is that the cocktails are placed in tiki mugs. The drinks were prepared well, but the service was bad. I wouldn't return.

Yelp
House Tiki is a fantastic spot! I had a wonderful time there. The drinks, especially the Mai Tai, Zombie, and Miss Mermaid, were outstanding. The music and relaxed atmosphere added to the overall experience. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Overall, a really cool place. The place itself is great - very spacious, a good number of fans, and it seems they have a rooftop area too, which I'm sure is cool. Also, the entrance was really cool. If you go in the depth of summer, just know that the entire bar and seating is outside, so if you're looking for AC, this is not the place for you. The drinks were pretty good, although maybe a little on the fruitier side. Most of the tiki drinks are rum-based, but that's pretty typical; I got the mezcal drink which was decent, although I wish there were more non-rum options. The prices felt appropriate at today's rates for a tiki drink. The bartender was polite enough, but as another reviewer implied, it seems they start closing down a little earlier than their posted hours - for us, they had turned off the music and started cleaning up around 10:15pm even though it states they're open til 11:00pm. I didn't see anything about food, but perhaps that's available other nights. Would consider coming back, but probably only on a cooler day.

Yelp
Says open until midnight. Showed up at 10:45 and they said it was past last call. Not the consumer's fault that they have mislabeled their hours. Wasted plans.

Abby R.

Yelp
Drinks were mediocre. Vibes were mid. Bartenders were slow and a little rude. Nice atmosphere but probably won't be back

Yelp
I went on a vacation to New Orleans for Halloween this year. Had a great wonderful time visiting all different locations all around New Orleans until I went here!! ...what a terrible visit at this tiki bar. We ordered the Jungle Bird and no joke the cup was not even full literally pretty much empty. I was so shocked I thought it was a prank a freakin joke!! I had to face time a friend that loves tiki bars the drink and he was like "wtf is that take it back!" I was also upset but didn't want to interrupt the bar tenders conversation she was having because I'm a decent person. That bar tender clearly didn't care about us though, she took her time to take our drink order but yet helped a big group before and after probably because she knew she would get a bigger tip from a bigger group being that it was only two of us and the whole place empty. I know about the bar and tip industry I'm not stupid. The bar tenders name was Sam by the way and really did a great job ruining our experience there, ESPECIALLY THE DRINK that she gave us was pretty much (empty) nothing in the cup! So awful to even think to serve that to us, and that's what brought me here to make this zero to one star review. My boy friend and I travel and visit different tiki bars we also like to buy a mug for our collection and for her to rant on where to get it online was beside me. I know I can buy tiki mugs online that wasn't the point. I think a bar tender who works at a tiki bar should know about the full experience. It's about the unique mugs that particular tiki bars would carry, basically some people do this for a fun adventure while traveling. Yes a bar is a bar but to us a tiki bar is for a fun unique experience and we did NOT get that there. If I wanted to go to a bar I know exactly where to go but a bar is a bar but a tiki bar is suppose to be different from all other bars "duh". The music was not even in theme either just awful. This tiki bar will be the most terrible experience, now I have to add this to my memories of travel to all different tiki bars that we visit from all over the world...Thanks for the terrible drink, memory and experience Sam! Two thumbs down.
