Tikka House - Review - Austin - The Infatuation

"Tikka House shares a parking lot with Super Thai and The Golden Goose on South Lamar. It has a long menu of North and South Indian dishes. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

First time coming in, and it was by accident. We were hungry and in the area and driving by. We love the cuisine and walked in with no expectations and no idea what to order. We ordered a lime soda, absolutely divine, made fresh. Every sip was refreshing with the perfect amount of tartness. One mango lassi and it came out different from what I’m normally used to but different in a great way. I could really taste the cardamom come through in every sip. We ordered the Aloo Tikki Chaat, and I’m so glad we did because that dish is delicious. Imagine a deconstructed samosa with the filling on the outside and topped with nice cooling sauces. My husband ordered his ultimate favorite curry, the saag paneer and I got the Tamilian Fish Curry. Both beautifully cooked & seasoned dishes. I normally don’t care for saag but their saag was bomb didi com. The fish curry was super reminiscent of a Sri Lankan Fish Curry I make during the colder seasons and it was a cacophony of flavor to hit your palate. Each bite was so perfect. Pleased to say I will be back because I have my eye on their korma and Kormas are my weakness. ☺️☺️🙌🙌🙏🏼

A nice yet casual Indian restaurant. Very good food and a broad menu, with a few interesting drink options. Staff was good but not the most attentive. Conveniently located on South Lamar near so many other things, it’s a great place to go if you’re south of the river and want some quality Indian food before going to Half Prices Books or somewhere similar.

4/19/25 We dined in today at Tikka House and it was a fantastic experience and food was amazing. We ordered the eggplant dish, Punjabi Goat Curry, and a Chicken Curry. The sev poori was also amazing. The highlight was the cheese Naan. Years ago, I had the best cheese Naan in Malaysia and this compares to what I had back then. ------- Ordered food for pickup today and the food was really good. We hope to dine in soon. Ordered the following: 1. Goat Briyani 2. Lamb Briyani (both briyani was delicious) 3. Irani Goat - this was amazing 4. Chicken 65 - this was not bad 5. Jalapeno Naan - was good too

Update 4/25/25: this was our 3rd time at this location. Service is still extremely slow. Took over 30 minutes to get food. Our tea cups weren’t washed. When we told the server she bought tea back in disposable cups, saying they ran out of clean cups! Like if we hadn’t returned the tea, we would have been drinking from dirty cups. Doubt the tea was made again for us. This time the location also had a lot of house flies. 2 of them fell in our water too! Really concerning. The interiors were quite nice. The ambiance was great too! We got there at 1:50pm , the server didn’t take our order till 2:15pm, didn’t get it served till 2:50pm. The place wasn’t crowded when we got there. The place had 2 servers catering all the tables. There was a point when we were the only ones and then it was mostly full when we left. I had to go find the server to pay for our food because he was overwhelmed with all the people, riders, and grub hub. The food tasted really good. The chicken lollipop, and Shaba chicken were our favorite. The dragonfruit watermelon drink was great.

Definitely one of the best Indian Restaurants we have been to.  Our favorite dishes were the Dhaba Da Murgh, the Chicken Vindaloo and the Amritsari Fish.  The Onion Pakodas and the Veg Samosas were the best appetizers by far.  Delson, our server, was friendly and helped us navigate the menu for gluten and dairy free items.  Service was fast too on a Friday night.  Parking is free with in restaurant validation, but it is limited on a busy Friday night.  We got the last open spot.

Goat Biryani + Peshwari Lamb Chop I've ordered takeout from here several times, always order the same thing, But this was my first experience dining in. The service was excellent, and the food tasted incredibly fresh. I'm really impressed by the generous portions of goat, and the lamb chops were fantastic this time, with larger pieces than before. I requested mild spice level still taste a hint which is what I desired and mixed with the sauce really brings all the flavors together 10/10

First time coming to this Indian restaurant! Outside was just normal but inside was pretty nice and cozy vibe! The staff were friendly and directed us to the table. She gave us recommendations for vegetarian and we took her advice. We got a cut of chai tea and samosa and papdichaat for appetizer which were quite filling stuffs! There’s hint of spiciness in samosa and it was my spice tolerance limit of the night! I enjoyed the tartness of papdichaat with tamarin and avocado sauce! For our main meals, we got a plate of garlic naan 🫓 , Punjabi paneer makhani and baingan saraf. They came with rice for curry tho! The main dishes were good but personally they can be improved a little more. There’s mushroom seasonings and if they put a little of it, I think that’ll complete the taste of it. Anyways, we had a good time and keep up the good work there. Cheers 🥂

Yelp
I ate there for the first time yesterday. I had the eggplant dish and garlic naan. It was hot fresh and spectacular! Services's attentive and friendly. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who enjoys authentic Indian food in a cozy atmosphere. Five stars.

Yelp
Didn't know what to expect when walking in but...wow! Pleasantly surprised on many levels. The ambiance is really casual but stylish with whites and blues accented with pops of orange. The space is neat and clean. The service was amazing and the staff were friendly and helpful with the questions we had. Food was delicious, especially the samosa chaat appetizer! The naan was fresh baked and buttery good! Chicken vindaloo was just spicy enough and the potatoes were a nice touch. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
The food is amazing and the wait staff is efficient and very sweet. I was quite happy with my dish and had leftovers to bring home. My friend, who is a vegetarian loved his food as well. We meet for lunch frequently, and I doubt if we'll go anywhere else from now on! P.S. Be able to provide your license plate number when you enter. They record your plate so you don't get towed away.

Yelp
Yummy! We got the Lamb Rogan Josh, Chicken Biryani, Chicken Saag, Garlic Naan, Gulab jamun, Gajar Halwa, Mango Lassi- Short review: Intimate space, delicious food, warm hospitality Long review: I can't even single out a specific dish because everything was very good, we took leftovers home and quickly polished those off. Lamb Rogan Josh is my favorite, moist lamb, soft and melts in the mouth. The biryani is flavorful and a great pairing or stand alone dish. Biryani + raita is always a winner. The chicken saag had a very creamy spinach base, great for kids! Garlic naan was generously topped with chopped garlic (maybe not a first-date food, but so good!) Gulab Jamun was very soft and melts in the mouth as well- basically a fried donut hole in warm syrup... Gajar Halwa- sweetened condensed milk, cardamom and warm cooked carrots. Wholesome, delicious. Finally, the Mango Lassi- a classic! Tikka Houses Mango Lassi has a bit more spices to it than my prior experiences, I liked the addition. Feedback: The public (or maybe just me) demands a boozey mango lassi! This is fully a rip from Pondicheri in Houston, but mango lassi + rum would be awesome at this cocktail capable location!

Yelp
Cozy inside, parking validation. The waitress was very nice, and attentive. My husband and I ordered: -papdi chaat -vegetable samosa -Punjabi Paneer Makhani -Baingan Saraf -Garlic Naan -chai tea We liked the food a lot, Papdi Chaat was really good, I've been looking for good chaat and this definitely hit the spot for me. Chai tea is not sweetened, great for me, but if you like sweet chai, you should ask to be sweetened! The curries were good, a bit too creamy for my liking (dairies can feel a bit heavy for me sometimes), but it was good otherwise. The naan was a little bit greasy, so if you don't like greasy food, you should ask for no butter. Good food, good vibe, and I appreciate validating the parking!

Yelp
Excellent Indian food! Love their garlic naan, Chicken Xacuity, Kerala Fish Curry and shrimp fried rice, so delicious can't wait to go back

Yelp
We ordered take out last night. The appetizer was amazing, ordered the roti pe boti. For main course it was chicken biryani and chicken xacuti medium spicy. Even then the spice level was quite high. The biryani chicken was dry and chewy.

Yelp
This Indian restaurant has a really nice and quaint atmosphere on the inside, though you certainly wouldn't be able to tell from the outside. There seems to often be a wait but we were seated quickly. It was quite a wait for food to come out on a Saturday evening, probably up to 30-40 minutes. We ordered the malai kofta, which lived up to standards, the chole, which were very flavorful, garlic naan, which was soft and crispy. I was disappointed to see the mango lassi come out in a plastic cup with a straw - certainly not in keeping with the rest of the vibe of the place and an unnecessary use of plastic. The flavor of it was very good overall though. The other issue I had was with parking - there is a very small parking lot near the restaurant that was impossible to find a spot on a Saturday evening and we had to park across the street. Overall, I think I'll be back for the ambiance.

Yelp
Tikka House is a welcome addition to South Lamar. I went here for dinner during the week and was able to get a table after only a 10 or so minute wait. Service was kind and attentive although food did take quite awhile to come out. (Close to 45 minutes) Food was flavorful and fresh. The chicken vindaloo was not too heavy on tomato and well balanced. Portion sizes were a bit on the small side for my liking and the quantity of chicken in my curry could have been a bit more. Garlic naan was delicious and my fiancee's butter chicken was very creamy and smooth. Atmosphere is bright and modern, they kept much of the decoration of Elementary the previous restaurant which I think is a good thing. Overall, a solid Indian spot, food is bit small for the price but quality and taste is certainly there!

Yelp
Three suggestions for the owners: -- either invest in proper burners or cut out the buffet option. Your food tastes good in terms of flavors but serving it cold doesn't provide the best experience of your restaurant -- invest in some basic level of staff training. They are lethargic and unhappy and gossiping about the customers still seated at the restaurant. Forget about good service, this is a disservice to create such an unwelcome vibe -- please provide an itemized bill before running the card I was eager to stop by since a new Indian restaurant opened in my neighborhood - no more 15-20 miles of driving north. The reviews were generally good so I had built a positive impression. I have still given it 4 stars because the flavors are actually quite good. As is the variety on the menu. We made the mistake of partaking in their weekend lunch buffet and that was a disappointment for reasons written above. The restaurant itself is designed clean and tidy, with pleasant music playing at the right volume. I don't expect too much by way of service at ethnic restaurants but this was a particularly unprofessional and unacceptable type of service. I am open to returning for an a la carte experience and as we guided our fellow diners, I encourage you to also bypass the buffet and order off the menu for a fresher meal. I still don't know how two buffets cost $46 total because we were told the buffet is $18 each.

Yelp
Really enjoyed dinner!! Great service and the restaurant validates parking. We ordered Scallops, Lamb Biryani, Lamb Rogan Josh, Garlic Naan, Paratha, the Fresh Lime Soda and the Mango Lassi. Literally everything was great, but the Garlic Naan, Lamb Biryani and Scallops (not pictured) stole the show. Will be back for more!!

Yelp
Another excellent new Indian cuisine. There's a bit of a parking congestion due to multiple businesses sharing it but it is validated/free parking. Beware without validation as the parking lady does boot your car! The service was good and fast and the ambience is great. Some random Indian videos were playing and the decor was pretty chill and nice. There's a bar an seating for about 35 I would think. Maybe 40 tops. We ordered a paneer appetizer and it was pretty good. For main course, we got malai kofta and some spicy paneer dish and paired it with garlic naan and bullet naan (basically naan with jalapenos and chillis but wasn't over the top spicy). The naan is just amazingly soft. Not sure how but it is very soft and great tasting. Some restaurants make it crispy and crunchy which is wrong but this one was perfect. The malai kofta was very creamy and nice and tasted really great. The spicy paneer curry was indeed spicy but definitely very tasty. Mango lassi was a great pairing with it and to cool you down the kulfi is highly recommended. Overall, this is a pretty good Indian bistro on S. Lamar and definitely a recommend for flavorful Indian food lovers.

Yelp
The food was really great. Very interesting menu with lots to choose from. I went with friends that we all traveled to India with and all 5 of us were impressed. The wait staff were very helpful. I will be going back.

Yelp
Tikka House has been such a fantastic addition to the S Lamar area. The food is fresh, flavorful, and the service has always been good. It's Clay Pit quality without Clay Pit prices! So glad to have a great Indian restaurant in the neighborhood.

Katherine M.

Yelp
This is a great Indian restaurant with a warm atmosphere, friendly service, and a nice interior. One of the things we loved most was the menu--it offers a wide variety of entrées, including lamb and goat, plus plenty of vegetarian options. If you have dietary restrictions or just enjoy having lots of choices, this is definitely a great place to eat. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Murgh Tikka, Paratha, and Mango Lassi, and everything was delicious. The spice level was exactly how we wanted it. The Tandoori had some very charred bits. Some people might find it a little too burnt. However, the sauce it was served with paired really well with the meat. The Chicken Tikka Masala and Paratha were especially delicious.
google avatar

Delia W.

Yelp
Food was great. We really enjoyed the vibe with the bar. Servers were really helpful and kind. Really enjoyed the chicken biriyani. They ran out of the Mango Lassi but that might have been because it was really late at night.
google avatar

Amanda N.

Yelp
The interior is very nice, and spacious. Servers were great and attentive. We got the chicken 65, chicken vindaloo (with garlic naan of course), and roti pe boti. Our favorite was the roti pe boti, it reminded me of a smash burger but elevated and much tastier. The chicken 65 was really unique tasting, it had that hint of oily chicken flavor but was covered in a flavorful sauce, even though is covered in red, it's not spicy just has lots of spice flavorings. Chicken in the vindaloo was slightly on the dry side, and the garlic on the naan could've been roasted or cooked longer because it was more on the raw garlic side which can be overwhelming for some. Also had the mango lassi to drink and absolutely loved it! Definitely different from other places I've had it at, but the best one so far. I would totally come back. They have so many options, and overall everything about the place was amazing. Next time I'd like to try their Chaat or Indo-Chinese options that they specialize in. Prices were fair, and they have a lot of potential so I recommend checking them out before things get too busy!!

Yelp
Tikka House has been open for two months now. The decor and layout still reflect the previous restaurant that occupied the space. The service was friendly, and we were seated promptly, which was a nice touch. Parking is validated, just like the other restaurants and bars that share lot. The kitchen fan/ ducts could work better. We were worried the food smell would sink into our clothing. We ordered the samosa, butter chicken, garlic and cheese naan, spinach paneer, and tandoori salmon. So we had a good taste of different things on the menu. Overall, the food was fine but didn't stand out. We felt it lacked flavor and could use more seasoning, especially salt. The spice levels are very mild--when they say "mild," they mean zero spice. If you enjoy a bit of heat, start with medium and adjust up from there. It's a fine spot if you're in the area. I would come back and try other things on the menu to give it another shot.
google avatar

Bo B.

Yelp
It's nice to have a new Indian spot in this zip code. The goat curry I got was good as was the cheese naan. I probably would've enjoyed the tikka masala more. I also got a hot masala chai which was delicious. The new parking system here allows a 2 hour window for free parking with validation inside the restaurant.
google avatar

Lianna T.

Yelp
Great addition to South Austin! The restaurant is pleasant and comfortable inside - with nice bar seating as well. Service is very kind, warm and welcoming. We split the Chicken 65 appetizer, and for entrees ordered the lamb biryani and shrimp curry. All the food was very tasty, especially the shrimp curry, which had just the perfect amount of coconut flavoring and a generous serving of shrimp. Some of the best Indian food I've had in Austin!
google avatar

Bella O.

Yelp
It reminded me of the frozen Indian food from Trader Joe's. Not bad, but I am not sure I would come here again for Indian food.

E L.

Yelp
Came in on a Saturday afternoon around 2:00 and it the place was buzzing. Fortunately there was no wait for a table. We started with the Chai and Lime Soda. The Lime Soda was refreshing and had a lemon in it LOL. The chai was could've done without tbh. For entrees we ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and Mixed Tandoori Plate with Roti. Both dishes came with rice, which was a great surprise. We ordered the Tikka Masala at a mild spice level and it definitely had some kick, so if you're not the best with spice, watch out they don't play! The Mixed Tandori plate came with chicken, boneless and bone in, lamb kebab pieces, and shrimp but only 2 pieces :( The marinade was flavorful and we definitely got our protein in. Service was okay but food was great and would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Terri R.

Yelp
Best Indian food in Austin hands down. We had the chicken vindaloo (tangy), baingan saraf (mildly sweet and creamy in a coconut base sauce) and angarey tandoori chicken. And of course garlic naan. Everything came out piping hot and cooked to perfection. To boot, our waiter was so kind and helpful as we wanted to venture out from our usual go-to dishes. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Melek A.

Yelp
Delicious! It's so good to have an absolutely great Indian restaurant in south Austin.
google avatar

Brandon W.

Yelp
Long wait for mediocre food and small portions. Much better off going to another Indian restaurant

Rutuja C.

Yelp
I was excited to try this new Indian place as there aren't many good Indian options in south Austin. The ambience is good. Looks like they inherited the furniture/decor Elementary had. Service was a bit slow, but that's understandable because it's a very new restaurant. Food was good too. Tried the veg kolhapuri curry, which is not available in a lot of restaurants. My complain would be the curry to vegetables ratio! Same with the chicken tikka masala - lot of curry, but just 3-4 small chicken pieces. But both tasted great. Naan was perfect too. Malai kulfi was a winner.
google avatar

Ryan S.

Yelp
Excellent food, great service. Got the vindaloo chicken- excellent, garlic naan- great, okra- amazing. I got it with an electric jellyfish which worked really well.
google avatar

Autumn C.

Yelp
Delicious food and the service was great. The irani gosh and garlic naan were superb. If you typically like spicy things definitely get the extra hot.
google avatar

Jaylynn M.

Yelp
Although the food was amazing, I have to say that the service was superb. The entire staff was extremely friendly, attentive and explained any and every question I had. The butter chicken mango lassi was absolutely divine. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for great Indian food!
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
Enjoyed the Fresh Lime Soda and the Chicken Tikka Masala. Could use a bit more rice next time I order and would love to go with a group so I can share some appetizers and other dishes. I anticipate it will be a regular lunch place. Staff was friendly and pretty full for a tuesday late lunch.
google avatar

Kip S.

Yelp
I went for the lunch buffet and was blown away. The selection isn't as expansive as other Indian buffets I've been to, but the quality is exceptional, especially the paneer. And the absurdly generous amount of garlic naan included in the price of the buffet is made to order. If you're in South Austin and enjoy Indian food, this place is a must try. Nice ambiance. Great service.
google avatar

Tofy M.

Yelp
I think the food here is pretty darn delicious. Their medium spice level though had my eyes watering up and my tongue on fire.. but that's okay cuz the food is authentic and fresh tasting. I had the shrimp Haka noodles, chicken korma masala, chicken tikka masala and chicken biryani. All are definitely recommended.
google avatar

Vik J.

Yelp
I had a great meal at this new Indian restaurant on south Lamar. I got the mixed grill, the palak paneer and some naan. Definitely check it out!
google avatar

Nick M.

Yelp
Great and authentic Indian. Fresh food, good service. Great local spot spot for 78704. I highly recommend.

Gaby D.

Yelp
Amazing food!! We got the Korma, Vindaloo, garlic naan, & butter naan. So delicious!! Sadly, the service was not the best...not poor enough for me to not try eating there again though. The ambience is cozy (unless you eat in the middle of the restaurant but all the other seats looked like they were cozy). It's tight seating so be prepared if you like your space in restaurants. Other than that the food was super good and I would recommend eating here!

Emily F.

Yelp
Such a great experience at Tikka House! Absolutely loved the Bhatti De Paneer. So flavorful! And the butter chicken and chicken tikka were warm and comforting. We got the mild spice level and it was perfect. Attentive service and good ambiance, too. Ten out of five stars for Tikka House! Can't wait to go back.

Andrew L.

Yelp
The food was ridiculously amazing and delicious. The creamy chicken kabob thing was so tender. I was so surprised because it was chicken breast. The staff were very professional. Delson took care of us very well.

Sydney S.

Yelp
Didn't think we would be able to find good Indian food in Austin! Can't wait to add this into our usual rotation! Chicken tikka masala, saag lamb, vegetable samosas and garlic naan were great! Loved the cold beer glass for my Taj Mahal. Would love to try the vegetable biryani next time! Got very busy but staff handled it really great.

Canton O.

Yelp
incredible service and amazing food. so glad to have them in Austin! We didn't know what to order and the waiter said he would surprise us - and boy oh boy did he deliver! We will most certainly be making this a weekly stop and perfect for even a quick pickup order after work!

Rebecca A.

Yelp
This place has great great potential and I'm excited to try more of their dishes! Garlic naan and chicken korma was my choice for my evening delight Garlic naan smackadelic, hard to miss! I find the chicken Korma to be a little too sweet, to be real , I haven't had a chicken korma this sweet it was a little over bearing.... But I'll forgive them. Next time I'll try the butter chicken and tikka and hope there's less sweetness in the sauce
google avatar

Ron A.

Yelp
Incredible Indian food!! So, so happy to have a stellar Indian restaurant in the neighborhood. So much flavor. Tender and delicious chicken, goat, and lamb.....but THE OKRA!!! Best I've ever had. I will return here again and again. Easily the best Indian and Indo-Chinese food we've had in our 9 years living in Austin.....possibly the best I've ever had.
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
Order to go and the food was awesome. My favorite was the chicken Tikka. My wife liked the butter chicken. Samosas smelled amazing and were piping hot when I got home. Naan and roti were delicious. Palak Paneer was also very good. Will be ordering again soon.

Denise H.

Yelp
This was the best Indian food I've ever tasted. I had the briyani with goat. Cooked to perfection and a very large serving good enough for 3 people for sure. Service is excellent very attentive. Atmosphere was quaint and comfortable

Mary W.

Yelp
My vegetarian daughter and I stopped here after a day of returning and shopping. Samosas were delicious. The daal was good, but our favorite dish was Malai Kofta. They were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and the spiced curry sauce was great. Order the medium spice levels.

Shawn D.

Yelp
Called on Xmas day to see if they were open and the gentlemen suggested i make reservation. He made it for me on the spot. Glad I did, they were very busy. Arrived and were quickly seated. Nice atmosphere, clean, Indian music playing. Ordered the chicken lollipop and it was delicious. Dinner was lamb vindaloo, sag paneer and Bhatti de paneer. All were excellent! We also had great service. Overall experience excellent. Best Indian I've had in Austin.

Josh M.

Yelp
Seems like they have an electrical tandoor. Service was great but the food was bad. Nothing as advertised. Disappointed!

Leslie T.

Yelp
The food was so underwhelming and under seasoned. Zero salt or flavor, I wanted the Indian flare but it was so bland. Total bummer - hoping with a little time (it's a new place) they can focus in and make some flavorful Food. Not sure I would order for them again.

Julie T.

Yelp
We live in the neighborhood and just tried it for lunch today. Excellent food, unpretentious atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff. The restaurant was almost full. Food came quickly. If you like spicy, the medium didn't quite get it to the right level. We'll try spicy level next time. The samosas had a nice subtle kick, perceptible after swallowing. The Murgh Tikka was exceptional -- moist and flavorful, with nice accompanying cabbage and onion salad. We will definitely be going back and are very happy to welcome this restaurant to the neighborhood. Not cheap but not outrageously expensive either.
