Tim Ky (B- or 3.5 stars) : Not great, but pretty good value and reminds me a bit of a "cha chaan teng" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cha_chaan_teng, so I'll be back to try other stuff.
Last night, my wife & I felt lazy. Original plan was for pho & grilled pork with rice at Pho Cow Cali, but upon seeing 20+ people lining up, I said "screw that!" So we went next door and tried Tim Ky, a restaurant we've been meaning to check out but never had a chance.
It's not a big restaurant, but clean, and tables nicely spread out so that diners are not on top of one another. I totally love that all the sauces, utensils, and napkins are placed on the table so you can self-serve, and most importantly, all the utensils were spotless - definitely a rarity! And as with most Asian restaurants, service was quick & efficient with no chit chat, totally fine for an introvert like myself.
Sweet & sour pork with rice (B- ) : what a generous serving! Taste wise, it's not as refined as the better restaurants like Eastern Dynasty. The batter is thicker, the sauce a touch too acidic, and I felt a bit under-fried, but the meat tasted fresh and all those imperfections reminded me of eating in a random Hong Kong cha chaan teng's for dinner.
Seafood chow mein (B- ) : Penny actually wanted crispy noodles, but the dish turned out to be egg noodles. The good - the noodle was a nice al-dente, with balanced flavors, and the 3 shrimp included were quite tasty. The areas for improvement - all other "seafood" included were processed items like minced fish slices and imitation crab. I was still somewhat happy about the cook and I believe I'd have better results ordering another chow mein that clearly specifies what the protein accompaniment is.
I'll need to try more dishes to come up with a more well-rounded rating, but so far, apart from the fact they don't serve the Cantonese BBQ items like char siu and roasted duck, I'd rank this similar to Sam Woo, and definitely better than LHK Noodle Bar a little down the road.

Food Grading Scale:
A+: Life changing. You remember these bites for the rest of your life. Occurs very infrequently and when it does, you'll know it. You don't even know how to further improve it with a magic wand.
A: Wow! Excellent. You felt happy biting into it. You're considering whether it's life changing, but know it misses the mark.
A-: Very very good. Whatever it is, it's one of the best, but you can think of further improvements.
B+: Very good. Very enjoyable, not to the point of "impressive," but worth revisiting.
B: Good. A solid example of whatever it is, offering enjoyment, but not enough for making an effort to get.
B-: Not bad. If in a pinch to eat something, this offers some enjoyment and is a reasonable option.
C+: Mediocre plus. Pretty average, but with one or two positive characteristics you can identify.
C: Mediocre. "Meh". Very average. Not bad enough to make you angry, but nothing good about it at all.
C-: Bad. You recognize it for what it is, but a very bad rendition. Your foodie self is a little pissed, and feeling like a dummy you ordered it.
D: Awful. Whoever cooked it should be ashamed of themself. Somehow, you still managed to swallow a bite.
F: WTF is this? Inedible. One chew, you had to spit it out. Fire the chef.
