New York Times’s one of the best coffee places is a 10 by 10 meters room with maybe a handful of coffee options and no food, even snacks or a cookie… like literally, only coffee. I don’t necessarily need to eat while drinking my coffee but such concept with a surprise to me. Coffee itself was somewhat okay. I didn’t quite understood the taste but I guess people like it, either because the taste is an absolutely subjective matter or thanks to an article in such famous journal. The personal was but a very charming one, here is a hard off to them.

I had the pleasure of visiting Tim Wendelboe in Oslo — a true haven for coffee lovers. The atmosphere is cozy and understated, keeping the focus entirely on the coffee experience. Their attention to detail is remarkable — from the roasting process to the brewing methods. I tried their hand-brewed filter coffee and an espresso, both of which were perfectly balanced, rich in flavor, and showcased the unique character of the beans. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about their craft, always ready to explain the origins and tasting notes. If you appreciate specialty coffee, Tim Wendelboe is a must-visit spot in Oslo. It’s more than just a café — it’s a benchmark for quality and craftsmanship.

Google
Came here after hearing it was the best coffee house in Oslo. Cappuccino Al fredo was so creamy and smooth. Coffee berry fizz was unique - although I couldn't taste much of the berry. The staff seemed very knowledgeable on their coffees. Would recommend for any coffee connoisseur.

Google
Well-deserved reputation! Easily one of the best coffee shops in the world. The place has a great vibe, the coffee is incredibly good, and the service was excellent. The staff took the time to explain the coffee-making process, and we had a really nice conversation with them. A memorable experience!

Google
Best coffee shop in town? I guess. Very nice and friendly staffs, warm atmosphere and packed of people. They offer variety choices of coffee (both pour over and espresso), also coffee beans for sale. Will definitely come back for more experience. Me from Thailand🤍🇹🇭

Google
Tried coffee from a barista in Oslo who won an award for being the best in the world—I didn’t even know that was a thing, but as a coffee lover, I had to check it out. It was a unique experience, and the coffee did not disappoint. It was rich, but not overwhelming, with subtle berry notes that added a nice depth to the flavor. Definitely worth a visit for any coffee enthusiast.

Good espresso drinks! Great service. Only thing I didn’t like was the freddo drink in the martini 🍸 glass. Too sweet. Tasted like a milkshake Starbucks drink.

Google
Loved my visit to Tim Wendelboe! I tried the cappuccino and filter coffee—both were excellent, with rich, nuanced flavors that really stood out. The baristas were knowledgeable and friendly, and they shared interesting insights about the beans and brewing methods. Tim Wendelboe himself is a World Barista Champion and a highly respected figure in the specialty coffee world, so it’s no surprise that his roastery and café are considered a must-visit for coffee lovers. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy truly world-class coffee in a welcoming atmosphere!

Yelp
Tim Wendelboe is a coffee shop that my friend recommended during our trip to Norway, as he had seen some videos of influencers praising the quality of their coffee. After spending some time outside in the cold, we were looking forward to trying the warm beverages that this place provided. Upon entry, there was a long line that extended from the counter all the way to door which tipped me off about the popularity of this coffee shop. While the shop itself is on the small side, the interior is quite bright and nice to sit in. The baristas were professional and seemed to be quite knowledgeable about all the different coffee offerings that they have. I decided to try out the Cappuccino Al Fredo as that was one of their specialty drinks. This was a really interesting drink, as I've never had coffee as silky and foamy as this one. The texture was quite unique, and even though I'm not a coffee connoisseur I really enjoyed the flavor of it. I highly recommend checking this place out if you're a fan of coffee at all!

Yelp
Really enjoyed my experience at Time Wendelboe. I did the coffee tasting which is built for two but I did it by myself. About $20 USD for tastings of four coffees, definitely a fair price. I requested to try one coffee and the barista created an experience for the other three. My favorites were a Kenyan and El Salvadoran flavors. The baristas walked me through wear the beans come from, how their grown and the flavor profiles of each coffee. A very informative and delicious experience!

Yelp
Best coffee ever! Had the cold brew (served elegantly in a wine glass) and my friend had the filtered coffee.

Yelp
A great and unique experience. I did the coffee tasting. The barista explained where the beans come from, explained the flavors. Great spot to enjoy your coffee in great company.

Yelp
Located at Grünersgate 1 in Grünerløkka Tim Wendelboe needs no introduction to Coffee connoisseurs, his win at the World Barista Championship in 2004 cementing a legacy now celebrating over two decades of commitment to sustainable farms and the best Beans available each season. Helmed by experienced Baristas overseeing a limited menu, no Food just the best Espressos, Lattes and Filters available, Tim Wendelboe seeks to perfect each guest's experience without pomp or circumstance despite excellent customer service. Also selling whole beans and equipment at expected prices, Wendelboe's commitment to Farmers earning a fair living well-known, it was after perusing options that an Espresso and Filter cup were selected, the former big and juicy with a bit of sour at the end while Tatmara Natural from Ethiopia tastes bright yet refined amidst floral notes.

Yelp
Tim Wendelboe is a super speciality coffee shop that does their own roasting. Anytime a place does their own roasting, go there immediately to try out their products. The baristas are very knowledgeable and can answer all your complicated coffee snob questions. This is a great spot to get a caffeine-high before or after a great experience at the nearby Mathallen Food Hall.

Yelp
I kind of don't want to write this review because I want to keep this as my secret "go to" place in Oslo... but the coffee is great, the presentation of your coffee is Devine, and the staff knows what they're doing with the coffee, and they entire place is a cool Scandinavian vibe on the inside. It's a small cozy place, but it's worth a trip to find the shop.
google avatar

Yelp
I usually hate coffee unless it's mixed with all kinds of fun "stuff." But the coffee here is done RIGHT! It tasted better than ANY coffee I've ever had. With nothing more than just a little milk. Makes sense that Norway (as the number 2 most coffee-consuming country in the world right under Finland) would have amazing coffee options, but I feel fortunate to have found this none the less. I also recognized a ton of awards on their mantle. So clearly they know what they are doing and are winning accolades for it. Very cool experience. Display was beautiful, store was clean, and the coffee was incredible.
google avatar

Lance E.

Yelp
This place has great coffee, but the staff argued with me over getting a cup of ice with my coffee. I only ask if they had ice. I wasn't asking for them to put the coffee in the ice because I know that drives barista crazy . I don't like hot coffee and I don't like places that argue with me. I'm the customer and I'm spending money. To argue with me over ice is insanity! I decided to post about this to maybe help Tim Wendelboe teach his employees the customer is always right.

Yelp
Legit coffee. Owner is an international award winning barista! They only serve coffee. Small space. Our coffee was hot, tasted amazing and went really well with our donuts from My Ugly Baby.
google avatar

Yelp
I think this is the famous coffee roastery. I went here and got the drink in the martini glass. I forgot what it was. Been half a decade or longer. It was good. I like norway. See photos.

Yelp
Elegant coffee bar in Oslo with excellent coffee and friendly service, especially to Americans who needed a bit more explaining than other customers! Would definitely come back when in Oslo again.
google avatar

Sara C.

Yelp
Great coffee shop in Oslo that is definitely worth a stop in. They take their coffee seriously, so the only options are coffee and espresso (don't ask for syrups, lattes, etc.). We had the coffee flight and it was really interesting to taste the differences in the different beans. Beware that it is small and does get crowded, but if you are a coffee buff this is your place.
google avatar

Drea C.

Yelp
Really too notch coffee. They even serve each order in its designated glass. I'm giving them a 4 star because I have a dairy intolerance so I couldn't order their cappuccino which was a bummer. They said they can't get non dairy milk to the right temperature - so I ordered their recommendation. Forgot the name of my drink, but it was too bitter for my taste but great for those who love pure coffee. Wish they had more dairy free options is my only thing

Yelp
I can certainly say this is the best coffee we've had in Norway because, well, it was the only coffee we tried during our short stay in Oslo. I am not a coffee snob but I drink plain coffee almost daily and I can certainly the drinks here were the best I have tasted in my life. And my bf can certainly say the same for iced coffees. We followed the river and then crossed a bridge to reach this place. Upon walking in we walked right into the middle of some coffee making magic. A worker was working some machine and another worker handled the front. Barely any wait and barely any customers, so we got our orders real quick. I had the cappuccino with I forgot which beans and I must say the best cup of cappuccino I've had. Maybe it was the milk, but it was smooth and tasty. I wanted to go back for seconds but we ran out of time before our flight. The iced coffee tasted delicious as well. I don't know what they do here nor do I know anything about making coffee, but I recommend all to try this place when in town!

Yelp
What a waste of time and money. The place is so tiny you can't hardly sit down to enjoy your cup of coffee. The takeaway coffee I got was only filled about halfway, maybe a 4oz pour generously, and their prices are absolutely obscene, even by Norwegian standards. On top of that, they don't do hand pours, it's all machine made. Disappointing for a premium coffee place. At least Starbucks will do a pour over if you ask. I asked to sample one of the varieties they sell in bags for home and I was told they're out, despite there being a shelf full of bags behind me. Near as I can tell they just don't want to. We had heard they do tours of the roasting process and were excited to see that. The woman at the counter informed me that because they've scaled up production they no longer offer that anymore. Why did I come here then? I would go to just about any other cafe before this place again, this was a total tourist trap.

Yelp
Lived up to the hype. Amazing baristas in beautiful, comfortable space in older part of Oslo. Down the street from some great boutiques and spots to eat. The coffee is divine, baristas super insightful and helpful - you can tell the love their work! Take away fresh roasted coffee and exclusive designed coffee cups that are shaped to enhance and highlight coffee experience. Send a post card anywhere in the world from the shop - they will send it! Highly recommend

Yelp
top coffee roastery and dropped in for a latte and custom cortado. also they do coffee tastings here. fika -- i'm sold, just add the pastries

Yelp
Ok...maybe I don't get it.... But I didn't love this place. The space is cute, but tiny. The prices are outrageously high, and the coffee was ... Ok. I've had coffee all over the world and I wasn't blown away. Many many people love this place, but I just wasn't one of them.
google avatar

Lihan C.

Yelp
Lovely little place that truly cares about coffee. I had the best cappuccino I've ever had in my life at this little place. Although I didn't end up doing a coffee tasting I did have one of their black coffees which they brew via aeropress. Very smooth tasting, my only thing is they primarily only have beans that are on the more acidic side (I think it's an European thing as most of the places where I drank black coffee had more acidic coffees) I prefer darker roasts, but that's just my personal preference. Not too much seating space however and consistently has a line out the door despite it being such a small space. They didn't have iced coffee while I was there though in April (possibly because it was still freezing outside) so unsure if there is just no iced options or just during this time of year (since other reviews mention iced coffee!)

Yelp
Jacob's Gist: I was very excited to try Tim Wendelboe after reading all of the great reviews but fell victim to my high expectations. =================== My dad and I were in Norway for a week and as the person who introduced me to Yelp, I always take his suggestions. He found Tim Wendelboe and we went on our first day. Touted as one of the best coffee shops in Oslo, I had very high expectations for my caffeine intake for the day. When we arrived, the small coffee shop was bustling and not a table was free! We went up to the small counter to order and were told about the roasts they were offering. We both ordered the same thing and were lucky enough to find a table after ordering. The coffee was brought over not too long after we ordered and we served on a very aesthetically pleasing wooden holder with a small cup and a little pot to pour from. While the design was very cool and much different than anything I had seen before, the coffee didn't seem to be anything incredibly special. Yes, the coffee was better than your traditional Starbucks but I had such high expectations that it was a bit of a let down (and very expensive!). I need to learn to keep my expectations low so I can always be surprised by places!

Yelp
As a pseudo-coffee enthusiast, I knew I wanted to get Tim Wendelboe a shot given the hype I heard from friends, reviews, and the fact that Tim won a coffee tasting championship in recent years. Fortunately, the place wasn't too far from where I stayed and fairly proximate to Mathallen Oslo. The cafe is near a park and fairly non-descript, but once you walk in, you'll feel like you're in a cozy, hip coffee spot with a big coffee grinder and minimal seating. Service was great and they offer you a water while you wait to cleanse your palate. The coffee itself was really good - perhaps some of the smoothest I've had. Lots of hype but worth a visit if you're into coffee.

Suria N.

Yelp
Good machiatto, Iced Cappuccino Al Freddo, and Iced Kenya coffee, which was strong and a bit acidic but left a sweet aftertaste. Very good coffee blend and prepared. Recommended place for coffee lovers!!
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
With so much fanfare, I found the atmosphere to be lacking. The coffee, however, is very good with a no nonsense approach to basic service. Norwegians almost always take their coffee black so do not look for cream and mixers. If you are fortunate enough to find a table (not a problem for us on a cold, wet day), you can sit, sip and ponder for a while.
google avatar

Francis L.

Yelp
In my opinion the best place for coffee in Oslo. At TW they strictly serve black coffee as aeropress or espresso, but they have some good options for those who prefer milk in their coffee too. If you are here during summer it's a must to try their "Al Freddo" or go for the cold brew. And if you want to learn a bit more about coffee , don't miss out on their saturday cupping! Sign up on their website for only 50 NOK pp. I promoise this cupping/ tasting is for everyone, don't be afraid;) Starts 11.00 and last 1 hour.
google avatar

Sal G.

Yelp
The best latte I've ever had! It's a pretty typical coffee menu; latte, espresso, macchiato, etc. hut each of their coffee roasts are so flavorful on their own, that they don't add any artificial flavors. Nice cozy place to sit inside and have a coffee with a friend.
google avatar

Dan N.

Yelp
What I wouldn't give to have a Tim Wendelboe cafe in Los Angeles.. still, I feel so lucky I got to experience this brilliant shop during a short stay in Oslo. Their coffee experience can't be matched; we tried the sampler and absolutely loved this gourmet light roasted treat. It's so cool to watch them roast the beans within the store on that beautiful green machine. The baristas here were really hip/easy to talk to and we had a lovely time sitting at one of their small tables and taking our time trying 4 different flavors. My husband LOVES coffee and typically purchases beans at G&B, Intelligentsia, and other nice shops in LA but none of them ever compare to TW. He bought a bag of TW beans right before we left the city and they stayed fresh for a really long time thanks to the way they were packaged. So delicious! I ordered two bags of TW's beans as a holiday gift for my husband and they arrived to the USA very quickly. Once again they were super fresh and appear to be lasting a long time. I wish we had lightly roasted coffee here but it's not something we can find in our city. Tim Wendelboe's coffee is truly special.
google avatar

Zev L.

Yelp
Such a masterful cappuccino. I was in dire heaven when I sat outside on such a lovely summer day sipping this perfectly made beverage. My girlfriend had gotten a drip coffee, and it had such an elegant and deep flavor to it. It didn't have a deep bitter taste, but just a bunch of complex, nutty and fruity flavors to it. I am not a big coffee drinker by any stretch, but boy did I REALLY enjoy this spot.
google avatar

Christina G.

Yelp
This place is small but mighty. We first had Tim Wendelboe at the end of our meal at Maaemo, but I'd already known I wanted to check this place out, way before that meal. The Gicherori cold drink was so smooth, the Cappuccino Freddo was creamy, and the anise drink was shaken with ice so it was nice and cold. Great variety of drinks, but not a lot of places to sit inside.
google avatar

Jm K.

Yelp
Extraordinary coffee, if other Americans mark it down I'm bewildered as I've had the best coffee from places they live and find this to be equal or frankly better than their hometown coffee choices. Coffee distinctions can be highly subjective. Just go, check out the usual line of Asian tourists and know there is a reason they made the effort to be there. Excellent beans, caring and courteous staff, European dairy and great prep.
google avatar

Gillaine V.

Yelp
I was not deserving of how bomb this coffee place is. I order iced mochas, which they don't have because they're legit. Come here if you want your mind blown and your palette opened up to actual coffee. Also, the barista that helped me was the cutest, sweetest girl! She was awesome and super helpful!
google avatar

Cheryl C.

Yelp
Loved loved lovveeeeddddd this place! I wish there was another location in NY. My boyfriend brought me here and I didn't really know what to expect. The place was packed, but I managed to snag a couple of seats while he was in line. He got us to lattes, which the served chilled in martini glasses. The coffee itself is regular, but the overall experience and presentation was worth it.
google avatar

Nancy A.

Yelp
Let's just say we went to Oslo for 3 days, found this place on day 2 and have been there 4 times. One problem we had at coffee places in Norway was that almost every place we've gone to sweetens their coffee. That leaves a sugar-y tar feeling in the back of my throat and changes the taste of the coffee. But this place wow - the Cappuccino Alfredo. It's fruity, rich, nutty and smooth, running right down your throat, leaving nothing but warmth in your soul. I would definitely go back again.
google avatar

Zubair K.

Yelp
One of the few places in Norway that does coffee well and this is the place to be. I tried their coffee while in Chicago since my friend has subscription with them. During my Oslo marathon trip, this was one of the places we wanted to hit up and truly try out their coffee beans in diff variations - pour over, espresso and of course cold brew. All excellent and I highly recommend you not ask too many questions and just savor the flavors and let the barista give you what they think is best.
google avatar

Sam O.

Yelp
One of the best coffee in Norway. They roast their own coffee beans (sourced in micro farm in africa/south America) which results in the perfect freshly brewed cup of coffee. A real treat. Very Knowledgeable staff that makes the experience even more interesting. The concept is simple there: Don't expect tea or hot chocolate or other fancy whatever drink found elsewhere. Don't expect cakes or sandwiches. Expect just a simple offer based on the coffee they have sourced/roast at the moment. Straight forward experience. They are specialist in roasting beans and they do it perfectly, without frills. So just go, try some brewed coffee or pick up a packed coffee beans and enjoy the flavours. Loved this concept.
google avatar

Austen M.

Yelp
Love this place. It is really one of my favourite coffee shops I have ever visited. It's unusual in that there is probably only one or two tables, so most people take away or simply stand. We sat on a window ledge. The place was rammed and it screamed coffee geek. Loads of filter single origin options, fancy traditional machines, brew kit for sale and coffee being Measured to the smallest decimal point. I had an amazing Colombian coffee, not to dark, not to sweet, but light and fruity just like I like it. The trays and crockery were cool as f#%k. Trays with Wee holes for the cups, water glass and the coffee jug. There ain't not food for sale here, this is completely focused on the coffee. If your looking for the most modern and current geek overload load coffee experience you can have then this is the place for you!

Yelp
It's possible that what I'm about to type will only make sense to my best friend. But, since I consider all of the Yelpiverse friends, I'm going to risk it and say: this is the kind of place where, if it were in Brooklyn, I'd roll my eyes a little. To clarify: I'd still go (and no knock to one of my fave boroughs of all time), but it's just a little "too _too_". Tim Wendelboe takes itself *seriously*. However, magically, down a low-key street in Oslo, the Tim Wendelboe seriousness actually comes across authentically, as if people are genuinely revering coffee. And I appreciate that. Tim Wendelboe himself is a man of modern coffee lore: a barista who, in 2004, won the World Barista Championship. This is the location of his micro-roastery and "coffee training centre". The interior is barren in a hip way; this isn't about bright collectibles, an extensive food menu and wide variety to appease non-coffee lovers as well. It's dark, and cool, and has vintage chairs and a big roaster. The bar is at the back of the main room, and the employee working it that day was dressed in a crisp white shirt. (Again, see: SERIOUS). The coffee comes with water as a palate cleanser and on a beautiful wooden tray (see pic, attached). I went for the iced coffee which was amazing: shaken with star anise, the flavours of both coffee and spice were complemented perfectly. It was pricey, but definitely worth the taste and the experience. I had other good coffee in Oslo so I'm not sure this would be my daily go-to if I ever called Oslo home, but it certainly is a place that prepares coffee meticulously and allows you to revel in the ritual of a good cup/shot. Yelp note: this is not a place to come and do work and stay for hours: the set-up is just not conducive to that. It's about people appreciating coffee. Done.
google avatar

Can I.

Yelp
This is the place for coffee enthusiasts. They know everything and will give you exactly what you wish. No food items, not even milk, because the taste of coffee will be satisfactory enough.
google avatar

檣

Yelp
It's really an experience Before I go back to my country. I had a nice coffee-time on the store. And bring the coffee beans to home. A unforgettable memories.
google avatar

N L.

Yelp
Lives up to the hype. The area is small but cozy, with many patrons milling about with their coffees nearby. I had the espresso al freddo, which, if I recall, is the iced Karogota coffee with milk. It was smooth, light and fruity, with very little bitterness and acidity. It was a very different cup of coffee from what I was accustomed to. The barista at the counter was friendly and polite, happy to offer recommendations when I asked. So all in all- a good experience!
google avatar

Paige M.

Yelp
I really really like this place and the fact that they use their left over coffee grounds to make really great soap. The only thing that keeps me from giving them another star is that they have so few places to sit! I would love to come here and sit and really enjoy my time drinking my coffee. Considering how busy they always are you would think they would have more places for people to sit and actually drink their coffee but nope. So get your coffee to go and enjoy it in the park near by cause chances are all of the four chairs will be taken...
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
This place is super serious about their brews! I felt a bit like I was in Williamsburg, except the design of the place is impeccable and the mood is Scandinavian cool. I got in there just in time, for a dozen people lined up right afterwards to grab some coffee to take away on a beautiful day. It's a very small shop, if there are two couples sitting down you're already sort of out of luck to sit. But I had a very good Mexican brew from Chiapas, with an acidic freshness, and their tasting note was a pretty spot-on "strawberry, stone fruit, zesty orange." It was creamy in the mouth, and cloudy in appearance, and stayed nice and hot in the tasteful little clay pot they served it in.
google avatar

Yelp
Next time you hear someone say it costs $8 for a cup of coffee in Oslo, tell them it's worth it. Actually, I think it's a little less than that here, but I don't want to bore you with the math. We stopped by on a July Saturday, on a pilgrimage via streetcar. I tried three beverages, the Anisetta, a cold coffee served in an Old Fashioned glass, a shot of espresso, and a hot filter coffee. The espresso was pretty standard, the Anisetta was delicious, and the filter coffee, made in an Aeropress, was ridiculous, so smooth. My better half had a Freddo, which was served in a Martini glass, and that was a delight. As others have noted, there are only two small tables inside, with seating for about eight folks tops. We managed to snag one after standing for a few minutes. About the only problem was they don't serve tea, and a member of our group was a tea (no coffee) person. Otherwise I might have had a fourth one....

Yelp
The first time we tried the coffee from Tim was from a pack of coffee beans that my friend sent us. So of course, knowing the reputation of this coffee shop and being in the city, we had to stop by and try some fresh made coffee. We arrived a bit early so we had to wait as they open their door only at 11:00 AM on weekend. We weren't the only ones, as at least 10 other people were waiting as well. The place is small, with only 4-6 places to sit inside but they place a few benches outside for people to sit as well. There's also a park across the street so you can buy your coffee to go and enjoy some sun in the park. Also, that morning, I noticed 4 people went in another small room to take a class, which could be very interesting. If I knew in advance, I would have probably taken the class. As they only serve coffee, we had breakfast somewhere else and came here to get a latte for me and a drop for my husband. Both coffees were good, smooth and very fruity. I won't say it's my favorite kind of coffee but it was worth a stop by.

Yelp
Had an amazing coffee tasting. The coffee and service were top notch. It isn't cheap but completely worth it! Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Ah where might an Australian get good coffee whilst skulking around Oslo? Tim Wendelboe. My Norwegian friend assures me that Norwegians are the worlds highest coffee consumers per capita. The accolades and trophies lining the walls assures even the most cynical caffeine addict that this cafe knows what's up. We ordered a cappuccino and a Guatemalan pour over, shuffling around a spot to sit near the huge coffee roaster, occupying the room like a jolly family member with stories that span ages. The decor is simple and the staff very sweet and obviously passionate about what they do. A lovely experience.

Yelp
I know everyone raves about this place but the service is so damn slow the coffee was not worth it in the end. Even if it is 'brewed with love' I've been to places that do better coffee in a much shorter period of time. Having 5 people in line in front of you should not make it a 20 minute wait. I though the Tim Wendelboe next to Oslo S was much better.

Yelp
It's honestly like I've never even had real coffee before. Their coffee is meticulously prepared and explodes with flavor.

Unlike the other places around Grünerløkka, this place closes early so do make sure you plan before you go. We tried two types of coffee here: Caballero (Honduras) and Gachatha (Kenya). Both were pretty good. Gachatha does have a bit of the green tea smell, but when you drink it it's not there. Nevertheless the coffees were good. There aren't many seats inside, but outside there are a few benches and you can enjoy the coffee on a nice sunny day. I would definitely come back again!
