Times Square

Times Square is an incredible place full of energy, lights, and action. The giant billboards and vibrant atmosphere make it a one-of-a-kind experience, especially at night. There’s plenty to do—shopping, dining, and even catching a Broadway show. It can get crowded and pricey, but the excitement is worth it. A true NYC icon that’s a must-see for tourists!

Loved loved loved it. What you can do is ENDLESS. So many stores, so many restaurants, so mantle things to do. It was just a fantastic time. You don't even need to stay within time square. There's so much you can see all within walking distance. I walked to Radio City, NBC studios, Grand Central and so much more. You can't go to NY and not come to Time Square.

Times Square might be a bit overrated, but it’s still a must-see when visiting NYC. The best time to go is in the evening when the lights are fully on—it’s truly mesmerizing and feels like the city’s heartbeat. That said, skip eating at the restaurants in the square unless you want to pay extra just for the location. Instead, head around the corner to Los Tacos No.1—some of the best tacos in the city and absolutely worth it.

Everyone should visit at least once. A lot of diverse people who appear wealthy, walking around high end shopping and sky scrapers. Be prepared for honking. Most drivers were using the horn excessively, very very annoying. Public restrooms aren't easily found and businesses have combination locks on the restroom doors to prevent non- patrons from "loitering." Trash cans were difficult to find, hence above average street garbage. Time Square was smaller than I had envisioned but did not disappoint. People were friendly enough. A lot of folks walking dogs everywhere! Super dog friendly, but very little grass for them. I wore jeans and a sweatshirt, felt totally underdressed. Folks weren't dressed "fancy" but did wear current fashion styles and were neatly groomed with accessories. Wear comfortable shoes as there is heavy pedestrian traffic (part of the experience imo).

On the 7th Avenue. It lives up to the hype. A different experience within NYC mostly due to the huge bill boards. The most #American place which has been sold to us via hollywood. Best if you just walk around.

One of the busiest intersections in the world, what’s left to say. Close to Central Park, walk up there, rent a bike and bike the park, stop by the MET for an excursion. You can rent a CitiBike e-bike all around the park and Times Square for the dedicated bike paths - great days.

Landmark in Newyork city.There are many high building and many advertising on it. Colourful ,lighting and many people. Busy area. Noisy and funny in the same place. You can see many amazing show on the street. If you stay near tiesquare, you will alway hear the sound of siren and horn all night.There are many souvenir shop there.

Busy and crowded, and it was only February. Lots of shops but shop around as many have raised their prices around this area. Do not accept anything from anyone, including flyers, as you will commit to buying something. The signs are nice and the tickets shop is here.

This place is truly, where dreams come true! I went here with my beautiful mom and Gigi and our dreams have came true. Food, activates, entertainment and more! I definitely recommend for any girls or boys around the ages of 11+ to come and join the fun life of new york City time square!

Always busy. Pedestrian traffic is nonstop, but with much of Times Square automobile traffic blocked, it's easy to walk about and enjoy the vibrant area. Want Broadway show tickets? Stop at tkts and see what's available. If you are not picky, don't wait in line for hours. Walk up 45 min before curtain and generally there is no line. Get tickets without that wait. Most theaters are just a few minutes walk away. Mid-day or midnight the area is bright and alive.

An iconic tourist spot synonymous with NYC, that everyone watched on TV for New Year's Eve, and visits at least once. Normally aside from taking photos (with yourself, your friends and family visiting with you, or the number of costumed comic book/children's shows characters posing for a cash tip), shopping big box stores and eating at mostly chain restaurants, there's not much to do unless you work in an office nearby, are passing through to see a Broadway show or eating/drinking at a local restaurant, cafe or bar off one of the side streets. One can also people-watch though it's mostly tourists watching other tourists since New Yorkers generally avoid walking directly into Times Square unless they have to.* Exceptions to above would be the NYE ball drop, special performances, and protests for various causes. It used to be that fans would gather in front of the Viacom building in MTV's heyday when 90's kids couldn't get enough of TRL and trending artists popped up daily to the studios--that there'd be sense anticipation and excitement in the crowds. Nowadays it's just a steady stream of automobile and crowd traffic. At least it's central hub for subway transfers--1/2/3/7/A/C/E/N/R/W/S all run thru this station, with a short stroll or one subway stop ride to 4/5/6/B/D/F/M. Driving tip: NOT RECOMMENDED to drive crosstown thru Times Square during most hours of the day, the traffic is horrendous. Tip: TKTS has a booth towards the north end of Time Square where you can buy discounted tickets to same day Broadway shows. *too many people walking slowly, spreading out with their group across the whole sidewalk, pausing and taking pictures.

Being my first time ever to NYC, of course I had to see Times Square, and it was exactly as I had predicted: -Mostly chain restaurants you'll find anywhere -Overpriced tourist trap restaurants -Lots of NYC souvenir shops -Lots, lots, and lots of people. -Lots of beautiful lights showing advertisements and art, love it! -Lots of great shows to see...Radio City Rockettes are amazing! -Lots of hustlers trying to take your money Come see it, its part of NYC history, just be sure to eat somewhere else before or after.

This 5 block tourist destination is in Midtown Manhattan between 42nd & 47th Streets. We were visiting NYC and had to come at least once to check it out. We walked Times Square twice back and forth and enjoyed its beautiful lights and big energy throughout. We went on Sunday evening and there were so many people which can be a bit overwhelming if one does not like big crowds. Lots of shops, street vendors, and eateries to enjoy. There's many characters walking among everyone, such as Mickey Mouse, Spider Man, etc. but be aware that they will attempt to take a picture with you, and if you accept, they will want $$ for that picture. It's not the cleanest area, but it's worth the visit. We had a great time, and I'm glad we had the opportunity to visit this entertainment hub.

Times Square during the holiday season is a load of fun, if you're into crowds and waiting in long lines to get into restaurants.

I think you have to experience time square once in your life. I think my fiance put it in a great it's sorta like a mini vegas. He had never went and was not expecting what he saw and experienced. I would give yourself at least an hour or two to explore time square and really pull in all it has to offer. While we were there someone was filming what looked like a music video was pretty cool.

Okay, I won't lie.. as a born and raised New Yorker, I rarely ever go to Times Square, nor do I have a desire to visit. However, with that being said, I do recognize and appreciate the iconic experience that it represents and the sheer amazement it brings to visitors who travel from far and wide. This past weekend, after dining out in the city with the girlfriend, she asked if I'd like to take a post-meal stroll through Times Square. I decided to temporarily hit pause on my default NYC jadedness and responded, "okay, let's go!" And you know what, I'm glad that she asked. I actually had a great time people watching and pretending to be a tourist for about 45 minutes. It was pretty nifty to see some of the changes the city has made, ie. car-free zones, pedestrian friendly walkways, etc. My favorite part was seeing the New Years Eve ball from a far, which I didn't even know was visible outside of the holidays. While I might not visit anytime soon, I do appreciate the icon the draw that Times Square brings.

One of my favorite places on the planet. Never the same and always changing. I love grabbing a bagel and a coffee/tea and eating it at the top of the red steps and watch the city walk up. It's such a busy area but it has an aura to it that's hard to describe. I know it's a tourist area but after years of coming to the City I can't get over it. From the hustle and bustle of the people, the cars honing, the billboards flickering on and off, it's a sensory overload. It's the epicenter of the world. Enjoy!

I wish it was like before, Times Square is messed up now! It's definitely changed over the years & not a good way . I used to loving walking there where I needed to clear my head! But now it drives me crazy ! Such a disappointment! All this money this area makes for the government & they don't take care of this area! It's like a never ending mess !

Times Square is a crazy place. -but very exciting. We sawn exhibit Valle de Catrinas- plastic artist from Atlixco specialized in miniature sculpture, handmade jewelry and cardboard crafts. It is the fusion of two of the most representative elements of Puebla's culture. Taller and Gastronomy, represented by the quintessential Poblano dish, "Chile en Nogada."

2024 update It is different from what I remember. And the city smells like trash and weed. I'm not even exaggerating that. I brought my husband with me this time to New York. It was his first time. My second time coming to New York and Times Square. He said he was "unimpressed" with New York because it smelt bad and was dirty. Okay lol I mean he's not wrong. The city did have a pungent smell of sewer and marijuana. It was pretty gross! But the city also has tons of food spots and things to do. Pros and cons I guess. I love the nightlife! But I did notice, that more places close at midnight now. Before, more places seemed to be open 24/7. What happened? Has anyone else noticed some of these changes? How can it be the city that never sleeps, if things close at midnight?? We wanted to hit Starbucks and a bakery, but they both closed at midnight. Doesn't make sense to me to have real estate in Times Square and not be open all the time. I think businesses are missing out on money. Aside from that, Times Square is still a lot of fun. I like all the big TV's and photo worthy places.

I've been to Times Square twice now, and honestly, I never thought I'd return after my first experience. But with so many things in New York City revolving around the area, it was hard to avoid. The first time I visited was just days before New Year's Eve in 2019, and it was an absolute nightmare. It was so crowded I could barely move, and at one point, I was literally brushing up against other people. It was chaotic, uncomfortable, and overwhelming, to say the least. We only lasted about 30 minutes before deciding to leave. Fast forward to my second visit, and I returned with friends who were eager to see Times Square for the first time. This time we went after catching a Broadway show, and while it was still crowded, it wasn't nearly as bad as my first experience. Times Square can be fun if you enjoy the energy of big crowds and don't mind the mess that comes with it... trash everywhere and "interesting" characters doing equally interesting things. However, if you're not a fan of packed spaces, flashing ads, and being bombarded by people trying to sell you things or ask for money, this might not be the place for you. Sure, the bright lights are impressive at first, but to me, it's just a lot of advertisements stacked on top of each other. If it's your first time in New York City, definitely give it a look, but after that, it's something I'd skip. It's crowded, overwhelming, and full of tourist traps that can feel like they're just there to take your money. Once you've seen it, you've seen enough.

This was a super quick last minute trip but I had much fun and felt so safe. there was so many people it was great. I thought a lot of places would close early but not true I was able to visit several shops. I would recommend a spare cell phone battery because I tool so many pictures and videos my phone almost died! I found a post that had a charger that saved me. I did do a night bus tour but the audio portion was not working I would try the day bus tour because you can hop on and off. I didn't like the guy who sold me the ticket said they had chargers on the bus BUT THEY DO NOT! I was lucky because the driver told me about the post charger right outside of the bus so I charged until the tour started finding a restroom without purchase was another challenge so next time I would plan accordingly. there is a free shuttle from the airport to the train station that worked out great. my trip to manhattan was only $3.25 I rode it back to the airport at 3 am and felt very safe. There was still a lot of people at the station. should out to Yankees Clubhouse Store. I found great deals.

Totally overcrowded. We were almost unable to move at times. There were so many people that everyone came to a halt when someone up ahead stopped to people watch or to a picture. We were like everyone else in that we wanted to see it but once was plenty.

It's so much fun being among the crowd here and just enjoy the scenery. Everyone feels free to enjoy their time however they like; of course there's so much noise and people in unusual costumes, but that is a part of the experience. There are so many shops, restaurants, theaters and attractions in this area that you'll never get bored. Make sure to visit M&M, Hershey's and other chocolate shops. They also have many souvenir shops in the area. Joe's pizza is a must-try, too.

My second time to NYC ,this time I did a daytrip. Not much has changed, and the premise remains the same lots of people a lots of things to look at in attractions. Still have the performers dressing up in various costumes and go characters.In order for you to take pictures for them with a obscene amount of money.

Times Square is a place you have to stop and look around when you're in the city. Definitely packed, touristy, and smelly, but it doesn't get better for people watching! LOL. I just love this place as you will never see a more diverse group of people converge into one area. Some very cool screen installations that are state of the yard with 3-D visual effects are really amazing. Standard restaurants in the immediate area are good for families that include Shake Shack and many chain places that'll satisfy the fast food fix and keep the kids happy. For better deals on food try moving a few blocks away from Times Square. If you get a chance, it's always good to come a different times the day and watch how things change. Do watch your valuables in this area and avoid scams that include ticket sales for any tourist activity. The one thing that is still valid stop is TKTS for same day, up to half price tickets for Broadway shows. Selection is not always the best but a heck of a way to save money and see some shows you might not normally get to.

This place is overwhelming. Tourist walk slow and locals try to get you to buy their tour or pay for a picture with them In their costume. Redeeming quality, it is pretty epic that you can see the lights from a plane above. But closer it's just packed and a bit dirty.

Had a great time exploring the area with my husband and friends. There are so many shops and restaurants. Be careful of the street performers and characters.

We had a wonderful experience. It looked exactly as we imagined. There are many store, restaurants, and street entertainers. Be prepared to be constantly approached by people looking for tips and for you to purchase goods or services.

Times Square is that iconic spot you can visit again and again and never get bored! The energy is unbeatable, with vibrant billboards and major brands lighting up every corner. If you're there a bit past midnight, catch the magic of new ads starting at 11:57 PM--it's a cool mini show. A quick tip: keep your bags in front and pockets empty. Police are around, but it's smart to stay alert. Soak it all in, embrace the buzz--it's an experience every time!

Times Square. New York. They say it's the best square. The biggest. Squarest square in the world. Nothing like it. And I'll tell you, it's big and beautiful. It's a big beautiful square. And it might be square. They say it's square. I have a square house. Man, camera, woman, square. I have the best memory. I remember all 5 of my wives. God bless them. So many women. So many kids. By all different women. I have the best women.

Is Times Square busy? Yes! Is Times Square jam packed with people? Yes! It is one of the most incredible places to see and totally worth it? Absolutely!!! With this being my first time in NY, if I didn't do anything else, I wanted to step foot in Times Square and it did not disappoint. Thankfully, our hotel was in walking distance and once we got there, we were mesmerized. The bright lights, the food, the shops, the people, I felt like I was in another world. We ran into quite a few photographers trying to take our pictures and after about the 5th one, I finally gave in. He told us that he'd give us 5 pics for $10 so I said why not. He actually took about 10 pics and sent them all to us so I feel like the $10 was well worth it. Times Square is a sight to see and I'm so glad we were able to experience it on this trip!

Super super touristy landmark. If it's your first time in New York, visiting Times Square at least once is a no-brainer. I've been here twice now, so second time walking through I didn't spend much time at all taking pictures like the first time. Just took in the busy atmosphere and all the advertisements, shining billboards. It started raining in the evening this recent time I was here so that was cool, warm evening rain.

Times square has ingrained itself in my brain as the best place in New York, I loved the bright lights, the crowds, the atmosphere, the shops, people and performances and music. It's an experience and a must do experience whilst in New York and believe me you will never forget this place. It really is the city that never sleeps and Times Square there always seemed to be a buzz in the air, day and night!

Of course it is expensive.. less public restrooms around but you can go to any hotel or restaurant and use their restroom . Be careful of people who take pics with kids . You call one and then 2 more guys forcefully come into the pic and ask money ! Some crazy people around here... be aware of the surroundings . Of course I couldn't make a trip to NY complete without a trip to Times Square. Crazy amount of people, hustle, and bustle and everything you'd expect. Personally, I'd put this higher up on the list then Empire State Building or any of the other 'big name' or more profound attractions, both from an experience aspect and the free aspect. Try and find time to at least swing by if you're in NY.

At times I love coming to Times Square and other times I just avoid the area all together whenever I am visiting New York City. The lights, the digital billboards and advertisements can be exciting. But the crowds are always such a hit-or-miss for me. I have been here during Thanksgiving and Christmas, but never for New Years Eve. It looks fun and exciting on TV and I am just fine watching the ball drop from my couch. Times Square is a major commercial intersection located in Midtown Manhattan. The Times Square plaza is five blocks long between 42nd and 47th Streets. It's basically Las Vegas all packed into a small area. The Times Square Ball is on the One Times Square building. The first ball dropped in 1907 and has dropped annually ever since (with the exception of 1942 and 1943). If you go up the Empire State Building or Rockefeller Center, you can easily see the lights from Times Square. Even though this place is known for its New Years celebration, it has also had its share of protests and shootings. There are many attraction in Times Square. Many people like to get a photo on the iconic Red Stairs in the center of Times Square. I can care less about the cartoon characters, but got a kick out of seeing "Naked Cowboy" for the first time (so did my mom - lol). This might not be the best place for your kids as many half-naked people walk around here. Many restaurants, television stations, subway stops and Broadway shows surround the Times Square area. I got to be in the crowd for "Good Morning America" and saw Alfonso Ribeiro years back. Hershey's Chocolate World and M&M's World are fun stores to walk in and out of. For food, I usually grab some Halal food or a breakfast sandwich at one of the food carts. A slice of cheesecake from Junior's is always a must. You can even attend a church service at Times Square Church. The first time I stepped foot into Times Square, I was amazed by the lights and all the activity going on. But these days I usually stay on the outskirts when I'm in Manhattan. I enjoy the parks like Bryant or Central Park more than dealing with the crowds. I did recently attend a Philippines festival that took place here at Times Square and had fun sampling some food.

**July 2024: Sunday Visit** Did you really go to New York City if you didn't visit Time Square? I use to live in NYC and while it was tourist central, I enjoyed watching broadway shows here and seeing all the bright lights. It's kind of nostalgic and it's a must do for anyone who's visiting NYC.

I love Times Square. Here's a snippet of a poem I wrote relating to TS: I found a stranger who didn't look like you, whom I didn't find in Times Square, but in odd peculiar milliseconds reminded me of you. Maybe it was the slight smile, the distinct curvature of her lips, or the way the light had glimmered that specific nanosecond that pronounced her features to be those under your name. I saw you in fragments, in shattered pieces in our city. And while I desired to build you whole again, who was I to steal these fragments from the innocent and sculpt you? I used my own body as the vessel, the vine that fabricated you; the snapshot of the things that you did became the blueprint for the things that you will do.

I have lived in New York my whole life, and I avoid Times Square as I would a land mine. It is one huge tourist trap. And if you are a tourist and feel you must see it, do what I do when I choose poorly and find myself there: avert your eyes. Don't even look in the general direction of any 'cartoon' characters, lurking about in their filthy costumes, because it will cost you. And if a seemingly pleasant young man offers you a free sample of his CD, keep walking, because the CD will cost you, too. And the cops won't help.

So, you will hear and see tons of things if you visit the Times Square area. The bottom line is this: Times Square is noisy Times Square is Vibrant Times Square can be dangerous Times Square is extremely crowded Times Square has something for Everyone Times Square is a "MUST VISIT" no matter what borough you stay in. Times Square has awesome food options Times Square Lightlife is unmatched. Enough said, Eat, Drink, and Be Merry, my Friends!!

Feels weird to rate a place like Times Square on Yelp.. but it's definitely a must see! Tips: -watch for cars before crossing streets -there will be LOTS of people, so make sure to know where you're going and not abruptly stop (people will yell at you) -politely decline street vendors.. they're not pushy or rude, but stay polite and you will be treated politely -many people throughout night & day, no need for taxis. You can walk everywhere! So much to eat and shop!! Bring money!!!

I have always wanted to visit time square just because it's one of those places I'd like to have on my list of places I've been to. When I was visiting the city for thanksgiving, the group I was with was more than willing to visit. It's a cool area and worth seeing! They have many advertisements, (that's what the whole place is) they also have red steps for the public so that you can get a nice view of the whole area. It's a great place to people watch and hang out for a bit, also many souvenir shops around the area!

You can't visit NYC without visiting Time Square. It's exactly what you would expect tons of people, lots of bright lights, shopping and souvenirs. You can definitely have to take your photos here to capture the hustle and bustle.

This is home to some of the world's largest billboards and signs. Fun fact: it's so bright that, at night, astronauts on the International Space Station can easily see the neighborhood from outer space. It's a must see for any tourist. It's unavoidable, especially if you're seeing a Broadway show.

The heart of NYC... Never a dull moment here. Always a show, always have your phone out to record... just be careful of pick-pocketers, and hold onto your phone tight. Different feeling during the day vs. night time. The lights at night look cool. TIP: Have something in both hands, or place them in your pockets. This way none of the hagglers can hand you something you're not interested in. If you look at their eyes, they always try to go for your empty hand... don't be a sucker. You're welcome!

Times Square was a great destination in New York City. It's very vibrant and crowded, I felt like I was in Tokyo. It had vibrant screens of advertisements on almost every building. Not many people spoke English which also surprised me. Many tourists are in this location and it was kind of obvious since it's a worldwide known tourist destinations and an iconic landmark known worldwide. There was also a protest against Israel at the time where I visited which was also interesting. And tourist traps. Overall, it's a must-see and nice destination when you're traveling in New York City. However being aware is very important as everywhere is crowded.

Well, it's Times Square! If you've never been to New York City, this super duper tourist place is a must-see place. Don't get scammed by anyone (especially the aggressive costume wearers)! Wear appropriate clothing based on the weather forecast. Don't get ripped by any of the hot dog stand people either--ask the price before ordering. Have fun! Times Square is magical this time of year. The Holiday Season is upon us and they know how to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. If there was anything to complain about, it would be the crowds of people that are everywhere, but who can blame them? For those with some trepidation about visiting the big scary city, I felt very safe here. The police presence made sure that there were no disturbances. We had a very good time during our stay here in New York City.

You can't really visit New York without going to Times Square. In fact, we seemed unable to avoid the place, as hard as we tried. We were staying on one side of it and everything we wanted to do was on the other. Sigh. Our visit started on a weekday and it wasn't obscenely crowded, especially during the day. But by the weekend, it got more and more difficult to traverse, especially at night. But other than the crowds, Times Square has a dazzling variety of stores, restaurants and electric billboards. It's definitely worth seeing if you've never been to the city. You can grab a snack or a meal from a street food vendor. You can buy an illuminated balloon. You can spend a lot of dollars on cheaply made souvenirs or get a new outfit late at night at the Old Navy. You could not pay me to visit the place on NYE.

Time Square...if you're not into big crowds...don't visit Time Square on a weekend night...it's lit up beautiful...but there's people everywhere...and being people from all over the world...some people don't understand the meaning of personal space...but there's a lot to do there...I would just suggest to go early on a weekday...and not on the weekend

If this wasn't for a leap year, St. Patrick's Day would have fallen on a Saturday for the first time since 2018. Jameson, the Irish whiskey brand, has made up a whole new holiday this year called "St. Patrick's Eve" so that one can celebrate on both Saturday and Sunday. They have taken over Times Square, where my partner, our visitors from out of town and I were there to witness yesterday. Co-hosted by Jost and Che, the event featured a surprise DJ performance and a can't-miss, first-of-its-kind 'rock drop' (Jameson's version of the Times Square ball drop on New Year's Eve) at 8 p.m. ET (otherwise known as midnight in Ireland) to honor this special occasion.

An absolutely iconic component of NYC, it definitely needs to be included in any trip to NYC, but it shouldn't necessarily account for too much time in your schedule. We came here both during the day and at night. Visiting Times Square at night is definitely the big winner. Coming here during the day, you're missing out on much of the grandeur that you will experience at night. I'd really only come here during the day if you want to visit some of the stores that close early. Otherwise, lots of people and crowds without all of the lights to enjoy. Times Square really comes alive at night. So many lights, sounds, and entertainment going on all around you. So many different, incredible street performers. If you're a fan of people watching, Times Square is the BEST place to just look around and watch the crowd - take a seat on the red seats and just take it in. They have great tour buses to take a scenic drive of NYC. Regardless of what you do at night, make sure you're in Times Square at 11:57pm to enjoy the Midnight Moment - each night, they have a new 3 minute digital-art exhibition that is so enjoyable. Overall, while it shouldn't take up too much time in anyone's schedule, Times Square is definitely worth a stop during a first visit to NYC.

Iconic is one word to describe it. With all the lights and signs, it's like being in the daytime at nighttime. Lots of shops, restaurants, performers, and characters to take pictures with. Large police presence, so I felt pretty safe walking through here both day and night. 2023 #93
