Tinfoil Liquor and Deli Closes For Extended Remodel in Highland Park - Eater LA

"Tinfoil Liquor & Grocery is stopping service for an extended period next week for an overhaul that will transform the store. The revamp will include a full kitchen hood and gas stoves, indoor and outdoor seating, and a new menu. The store will drop the 'liquor and grocery' label but keep its neon sign and continue on- and off-site liquor sales. The reopening is slated for next spring." - Farley Elliott

Great liquor and beer selection. Friendly and helpful staff. Hangout zone for Tony Figueroa. But the beat part, Ask the cashier “Do you sell birthday candles?” They will direct u to the door in the back of the store which leads to a deli with the most fabulous meats and sandwiches and salads. The kale salad is amazing, the potato salad is fantastic too... I’ve tried most of the menu and nothing is disappointing. The OG(corned beef) is pictured below. My go to spot! Highly recommended.

My favorite spot on Figueroa. Not only do they have rare sodas, and a great selection of food. You should remember to ask the cashier "do you sell birthday candles?"

This place is awesome! There are so many cool elements here. First, the password to get to the deli adds to the experience. They slice the deli meat for each sandwich and the sides are so fresh. Then there's the cool selections of drinks in the liquor store in front. One of the few places you can find a good sarsaparilla. I look forward to every time I can visit.

The sandwiches are just ok, but they are very expensive for what you get -$15 for a small ham sandwich? But the password thing is stupid and makes you feel like a hipster jackass when you have say it out loud— you have to say the password “birthday candles” to be let past the locked door to order your sandwich. I don’t like coming here.

Sandwiches were really not very special, unfortunately. Had both the roast beef with yuzu frisee, and the turkey sandwich. Meh. Can't say I really understand the speakeasy thing either. Just a way to use a back storage area for more money making? Go to Wax Paper instead if you want a good sandwich.

First time we visited. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Great selection of soda, beer, hot sauce, and snacks. Definitely check it out. Don't forget to ask for birthday candles.

Got the Club Rafter and it is pretty good! Enjoying my sammie outside on a beautiful afternoon. I plan on returning to try the other sandwhiches.

I have been here several times. I always bring new friends with me because the sandwiches are so delicious. 😻
