I had been to Ting's before because, in all honesty, I love Filipino cuisine but, in all transparency, Ting's isn't my favorite. Whenever I spy a new Filipino food truck or restaurant I make it a priority to stop by. Now, the 4 star review should be prefaced with the lumpia is darn good...I would assume it's homemade but it does remind me of the frozen lumpia I have bought and fresh fried from the Asian Market. No shade here because I love the small crispy sticks filled with pork and vegetables no matter in what form but, at some other places they are a tad longer like taquitos. These at Ting's are shorter and have even surface areas, ensuring maximal crispness. Also, all the dipping sauce options are super unique and fun to try. I never know what I'm ordering, but any variation I order is super good, packed with flavor, acidity, and spices. For right around $10, you have a filling and fried snack. Now, they do take a little while to fry up nice and crispy, so be patient because these puppies are worth it!
If you're not that adventurous however, you are willing to try a new style of food I would say Ting's is approachable. The dishes don't contain a lot of obsure traditional ingredients like mung beans, salmon/preserved fishes, or red bean. But, they are authentic and traditional. The menu lists the staples such as Chicken Adobo, Panzit, and Lonsilig all my favorites.
Lonslilig is a spicy sweet smaller thicker sausage that is red in color but doesn't taste like chorizo at all, a lot less spicy. Give them a try. If protein is your priority there are a lot of dishes on the menu that focus on lean protein such as a beef dish my mom and I split one day for lunch; the beef was very tender and marinated nicely but, the portion for the price was a little small considering America standards. However, with an order of lumpia accompanying it, the meal was full and complete, and we left happy but not over-full. No matter if you know you enjoy Filipino food or if it's your first time tasting it, Ting's is a solid choice and represents an underrepresented style of cooking.
