The Best Happy Hours in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"In terms of both price point and quality of execution, this Lombard cocktail bar has risen to happy hour royalty. Bracingly citrusy and well-balanced daiquiris are only $7, as are the cognac-spiked French 75s. The kitchen’s gumbo, truly some of the city’s best, is $6 for a single portion, as are the crackly-cornmeal-encrusted catfish sliders. And for quintessential Portland happy hour fare, the $6 mini corn dogs retain their juicy snap inside a not-too-sweet batter. Happy hour runs from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m." - Dianne de Guzman

Jaw-Dropping Happy Hours Spotted Across Portland

The Best Restaurants and Bars in Portland’s Kenton Neighborhood | Eater Portland

"Though Tiny Bubble Room does pour a couple sparkling wines by the glass, the namesake bubbles here are decidedly of the malted beverage variety. Simply on the strength of its over two dozen beers and ales on tap, Tiny Bubble Room is one of North Portland’s top taprooms. The handsome if sparely decorated bar also boasts impressive bourbon and tequila lists, alongside plenty of other spirits and respectable wine offerings. Add a spacious, covered patio with firepits, a Louisiana-by-way-of-Oregon food menu, and an enticing happy hour, and Tiny Bubble Room is far more than just an oasis for beer nerds." - Nathan Williams

Where to Find Wildly Tasty Game Burgers in Portland | Eater Portland

"Ken “Zig” Naffziger opened up this Kenton neighborhood restaurant in 2015 and since then, the lamb burger has been a regular favorite. Swift and Union grinds its lamb in-house for a patty cooked medium-well, simply adorned with arugula, dijon, and pickled red onion. Swift & Union is open for indoor and outdoor service, as well as takeout."

It was all good, the atmosphere, service and food. The place is also really clean. The menu has southern vibes with lots of delicious options. They have an abundance of outdoor seating that includes cubbies with tabletop gas fire pits and an outdoor tent. Inside, there is a full service bar with mixed drinks and a huge selection of beer. They offer a happy hour from 3-5. And late night bites from 10-11. The corn bread is so light and delicious. This is served with the plate options. Portions are generous, and starters offered could serve as meals. We will be back!

Google
Great micro selection, good southern food, fun space with great service. We stopped in for HH and tried the red beans & rice, Gumbo, and collards. All were delicious, but I'm always happy to find a solid gumbo. We're looking forward to going back.

Google
What a fun place. They have sweet little shipping container alcoves outside with picnic tables, heated seats and table top fires. The service was excellent, friendly, attentative and pretty perfect. Excellent cocktails and beers. The food was yummy! Love their fries and Poor Boy sandwiches. Large portions amd reasonable prices. Their food is southern and the menu is huge. Great outdoor area! Has parking and there is street parking too.

Google
LOVE their outdoor space!!! Our second time here and had no trouble getting a table on a Friday night. Food was awesome, service was awesome, atmosphere was awesome 😎👍. We will be back.

Google
One of the best hidden gems of Portland!!!! I’m convinced they have the best patio in all of pdx! The picnic tables have their own lil secret sections with heated seats and table top fires! It’s def a cozy spot for a cold winter night, and the gumbo is AMAZZZING!!!! The only place I can find gumbo comparable to my southern grandpa’s lol everyone here is so sweet too. The food, service, and vibes are always 10/10🥰❤️

First was told to sit anywhere. Then was told area we chose was closed. Music was very loud for 12:45pm. Ordered a beer and given something totally different: said menu wasn’t up to date and I should’ve used QR code but my phone was dead. Tots were too fried to be good, they were hard as rocks. I ordered a burger with bacon. Bacon did not come on the burger. 15$ BLT was dry and tasteless. Never was asked if food was okay, never asked for a second drink. Was told aggressively about no smoking/vaping on property in an open air environment - server forcing controlling/authoritative attitude during our time at the establishment. There were only two other tables of people at this place and now I know why. Avoid this place at all costs! Plenty of better options around.

Google
Love this spot, it’s one of my favorite spots in North Portland. The food is good and so are the drinks. Also great prices. I’ve tried several things on the menu and haven’t been disappointed yet. I also love the outdoor seating in the box cart thingy’s with the fire pit. Sat in one recently when it was raining and it was very therapeutic

A couple of times I passed by this bar/restaurant and finally when I viewed the web site, the pictures in side and out side looked very interesting. The menu looks amazing, I had to try this place out! Went in on a Saturday and sat out on the patio, very nice area and clean, the waitress said it was open seating and the menu is on the QR code on the table. I had already decided what I wanted, ordered the Czech Pils and it tastes so good! For an appetizer I ordered the Fried Green Tomato sliders but request no bun which the waitress said “not a problem”. The basil pesto aioli was so good. I am not one for raw onions but these pickled red onions were great. Fried green tomatoes were actually my first time ever eating and thoroughly enjoyed every bite! Next ordered the Pimento burger with no bun, this is were things changed, the hamburger patty was so over cooked and thin that some of the beef was crunchy. The pimento cheese is made in house along with the red pepper habanero jelly and both were delish! I substituted and had house made Cole slaw which was so good! I did order gumbo and jambalaya with chicken and sausage to take to my elderly mother as a to go. When I got the food home to her she opened each container and each order was amazing! I will defiantly go back and order something else on the menu and I am sure that I will enjoy the food and beer and this great bar/restaurant! I have found a new place to worth going back too!

Yelp
Neighborhood favorite. The heated patio booths are a fantastic place to hang when the weather's cooler.

Yelp
i can't get enough of tiny bubble room. i discovered TBR when a friend suggested it for lunch! when we arrived at noon we were the only people inside. the host/bartender was so kind & welcoming. we ordered some drinks, i got the TBR mule which is now my personal favorite. it's so refreshing & delish. i've tried a number of food items but my favorite, hands down, is the buffalo cauliflower. i call it "my favorite cauliflower" now. it's delicious with the buffalo sauce & blue cheese. the cauliflower is cooked to perfection every time. i love the mini corn dogs as well! they were super flavorful, had a great snap when you bit into it and awfully cheesy! the pulled pork sliders were outstanding as well! the mac & cheese is on my list to try when it gets a bit cooler. i love the atmosphere inside & outside. in the wintertime the benches outside have heated seats & they put tabletop fire pits out. it's a lovely little experience. pricing is super good, imo, for the quality, quantity and service! if you haven't been to tbr, i highly HIGHLY recommend. you won't regret it!

Yelp
My friends moved near here and so I've been going a lot more often. I really enjoy this place especially their outdoor area. They have a common outdoor seating area in addition to individual outdoor seating areas with picnic tables; each of the picnic tables has heated seats too which is nice when it's cool out. During the warmer months of course it's a great area to hang with friends and family. They have a good menu with a lot of southern/cajun cuisine like gumbo and jambalaya. They also have classics like sandwiches and burgers too which are awesome. They also have a good happy hour from 3-5pm and a late night menu from 10-11pm, too. TBR also has awesome drinks and a more than solid beer menu.

Yelp
All around great place. Everything on the food menu is delish. Not a beer drinker but they have a great selection. Love their outdoor heated spaces. Staff is always super helpful and ready to answer questions.

Yelp
Always good service here with reasonable prices for the food. Get the cauliflower--it's outstanding. The cornbread is always great. I don't love the gumbo, jambalaya or red beans and rice. It's just not my food. The veggies are always good. It can be loud inside, so we enjoy the heated outdoor area. I'll always mourn the now closed Swift and Union. But the RBR helps replace my favorite Kenton restaurant.

Yelp
This is the perfect spot for summer happy hour! There is plenty of outdoor seating, and if you can secure one of their storage container style spaces, there is the option to turn on an open flame for additional warmth. The portion sizes on the happy hour menu are extremely generous. Drinks and four dishes totaled to under $60 total for two people, and it was more than enough food. Our personal favorite was the Catfish slider. The fish was perfectly breaded and fried, and there were some pickled vegetables that balanced the slider out. The Hush puppies were decent, but I actually enjoyed dipping them in the Gumbo more than the provided "sweet and sour" style dipping sauce. The Gumbo itself was pretty salty, but the cornbread provided alongside itself was buttery and crumbly. The drinks were EXTREMELY strong, so they are definitely not for the faint of heart. I wish that they were a little more balanced, but overall, the price could not be beat!

Yelp
You know it's a sad day when one of your favorite eateries fails to hit the mark in both service and food. Despite the incredible outdoor seating and great music, the quality of the food left much to be desired. My side of coleslaw arrived warm and limp and the only good thing about the Dirty Mac was the portion size and the cavatappi was cooked to perfection. Mine arrived sans "dirty" and the server went back to get the pulled pork with literally, less than a tablespoon of BBQ sauce squirted over it. There was less than that in the mac and cheese and it had zero cheesy flavor, like it was watered down with milk. As I was paying the check, I asked the server if there was new kitchen staff and she replied that she 'didn't think so, but why?' After I told her, she said 'Oh, that's too bad.' I tipped 20% for a careless server and very bland-tasting food. I guess it's true what they say; don't go to a restaurant on Mondays because no one cares about quality after busy weekends. The only thing decent about the meal was the happy hour slushie for 8 bucks. With so many other restaurants within walking distance from my house, I'll stick with tried and true Kenton Station, Fino, and the new darling of the 'hood, Northport.

Yelp
I like that their menu has a variety of options to choose from, particularly some good salad options. I ordered the kale salad which was well balanced. The hush puppies were very tasty though I wish there was a honey sauce rather than the red pepper jelly it came with. My partner ordered the smash burger but the patty was burnt to a crisp and probably should have never been put on a plate. The waitress never came back to check on us after ordering so there was no opportunity to address any issues or ask for anything additional.

Yelp
Great place for Happy Hour and a cool vibe. Relaxing atmosphere with good food selections and a nice list of many local area beers on tap. Some great cocktails too so go check them out when you can.

Yelp
I've wanted to try for a while but living in sw suburbs it's a bit of a trek. But I got my opportunity and didn't regret it. I started with the sliders, corn dogs and hush puppies. Catfish sliders were good. Just spicy enough to avoid that muddy flavor. Good size hunks of fish too. The pulled pork ones were good but I agree with fellow helpers that it needs a sauce. The corn dogs were really fun. Though they would be too salty but they were just right. The hush puppies were huge. They were on happy hour so what the heck. I found out mid meal that someone else was footing the bill so I wanted the jambalaya. The owner also owns roscoes so I asked the waiter if it was the same as Roscoes, he claimed it was better. It was not better. I can't put my finger on why. It was good but not better than Roscoes. I love the space. The outdoor area made of shipping containers and the little warmer things on the tables. So much fun. Service was a little inconsistent but I'll bet it's tricky to manage that outdoor space. Solid food, lots of good drinks and a fun space. I recommend.
google avatar

Marissa L.

Yelp
Cool spot to hang out! They have a big outdoor space, a couple tables with a gas fire in the middle, and then individual cubbies with fun graffiti. Inside was busy and noisy, so if looking for a quiet atmosphere, I don't think this is your jam. The waitress that greeted us was super on it, and had us drinks in no time. Quick to fill the food order. We had Cajun tots and cornbread with whipped butter. Cajun tots were soft on the inside that it easily separated with the fork, and the ranch sauce was nummy! The cornbread was moist, the only thing is I would have liked was more butter with the cornbread. The drink Regret Me Not tasted like a light lemonade, and I would get that again. Want to come back and try some of their southern foods.

Yelp
i never noticed it before since it is black & isn't eye catching. went for happy hour here & it was worth it! darker ambience hence the building is black. the cat fish sliders & gumbo was delicious! so flavorful & the cat fish was at a perfect crisp. the mac n' cheese was alright. it was creamy but not enough cheese, it was more milky/sour cream than cheese. will be back for the cat fish & gumbo forsure! staff was average.

Cupcake M.

Yelp
I have not been to the TBR since it was Lung Fung. Man, what a difference the changeover has made. My husband and his friend who both lived in New Orleans...love it. The gumbo was delicious as was the Jambalaya with catfish. Both loved the Blackened Shrimp po-boy and the mac & cheese. The service was perfect, and the place looks great inside. This was kind of a last meal for my husband & his friend, because my husband is very sick and will more than likely be gone before the end of the year. I wish we had gone there sooner.

Yelp
Great food and drinks, reasonable prices and great service! Who would know from the outside. Great patio too!
google avatar

Scot N.

Yelp
Absolutely love the outdoor seating and innovative use of shipping containers. The patio is one of the best in Portland. The food was good Bar food. The chicken tenders were clearly hand battered and tasty. I thought that the jalapeño ranch dipping sauce had way too much dill and after one dip, I gave up on it The one complaint we had was that the service was pretty slow. Even though the sign said to wait to be seated, after standing there for five minutes someone finally saw us and told us to sit anywhere we want it. then it took another 10 minutes for someone to come take our drink order and another 10 or 15 minutes for that drink to be delivered. while we were waiting for our food and drinks, there was at least two separate parties of three or four people which sat down and then left after 10 minutes of waiting with out having an order taken. The servers were very friendly but not sure why the wait times were so long.

Yelp
Always a great time at tiny bubble room. Great beers on tap. The food is really good love the smash burger and a awesome outdoor patio.

Yelp
Fun place. One of my favorites when we visit Portland! And it is up the street from where I had my house! Great addition to the neighborhood

Yelp
Bartender was friendly, awesome lineup of drafts, happy hour specials, with a chill ambience!
google avatar

Greg C.

Yelp
The food and drinks are solid, and until recently service was good as well. A few months back a new bartender was added to the rotation. SHE IS AWFUL! She's openly rude, avoids eye contact so as to avoid serving people. On 1 occasion the person I was with ordered her tots crispy. This bartenders response was, "There's a language barrier back there, so they might not get it." No move to mitigate such a barrier should it exist. On the same visit, while seated at the bar, we asked for water and were told, "There's a water station around the corner." The kitchen manager (an English speaking white guy, no problem understanding "crispy") was standing there, and obviously didn't like her response, so he poured us water, obviously disgusted with her response. Another time we ordered a shot, which is always served chilled...she poured the two ingredients into shot glasses and slid them across the bar. Peter, chilled them for us. On another occasion , I went in at 9. A full 2 hours prior to closing, and she said, "We're done." On my last visit, mind you, I am an at least once a week regular living within walking distance, I ordered to-go food. While I waited, I had 3 tall cocktails (not doubles, just tall), and usually would finish with a shot before heading home. Never a problem in the past, this time her response was, "You just housed three drinks in under an hour, I'm not serving you anything." This is a pretty aggressive way of cutting someone off. I'm pretty sure she would've poured 3 IPA's to someone in under an hour. I was scrolling on my phone, never spoke to anyone, and was showing no signs of intoxication. I am an adult male who weighs over 200 lbs, it's not like I am some waif who is going to be massively affected by 3 cocktails. The cutting off is beside the point. I should've said something sooner, but I finally did ask what her issue was with me. It seems personal, but I suspect she's this way with everyone. The rest of the crew is friendly, but I won't be back. If you see the woman with the shaved sides of her head, behind the bar, avoid the place. She should find a job where she doesn't have to engage with the public. She's terrible. Before posting, I reached out to management and didn't hear back.

Yelp
Came here for the happy hour, was da bomb. Gumbo and the sliders were on point. Would recommend coming.
google avatar

Meghan C.

Yelp
Good food, nice staff, frustrating policies, and management I was like, why should I leave a one star review just because my family was treated like actual trash and I politely reached out to the owner to resolve it, only met with silence? Then I see all the other one star reviews of families that had to go through the same thing. Huh! So it wasnt just us Dont bother if you have children. They hate you and they dont care who knows it! Fun policy!
google avatar

Lina N.

Yelp
Went during happy hour and honestly we got a pretty good deal on the food and drinks. We ordered gumbo rice, cauliflower, the fish sliders and Negroni and beer. My best favorite was the cauliflower and the slider. The rest was good too and the Negroni was kinda sweet.
google avatar

Denny C.

Yelp
Love eating inside in winter and outside on warm days. Great beer selection and happy hour is delicious and reasonable. Regular menu has so much variety.

Yelp
Excellent cocktail and comforting pub food. Chill atmosphere. Second time here. We will come back.

Yelp
Everything was delicious. Will be coming again!!!! I would have liked a little more sauce on the pulled pork, but they were still very tasty!!!

Mira B.

Yelp
We live in the neighborhood, so we wanted to try this restaurant, as it always smells good. We finally gave it a shot, and the food is bland and sloppy. That was really my only issue, until the last few months. The restaurant was causing rats to infest the local homes because they put their dumpsters up against the property line and didn't think to do pest control. Obviously this is an issue with a lot of restaurants, but when asked to move their dumpsters they acted like it wasn't their problem. My biggest issue is that their parking lot opens to an alley on one side, that isn't a through street, but an alley for the residents to access their garages. The Tiny Bubble patrons constantly drive out into the alley (instead of using the two main roads) and speed through. I watched an F150 truck leave the Tiny Bubble parking lot and almost run over a 5 year old child who was exiting her garage. I think this restaurant should consider caring more about the people who live here and build a fence, so that their customers don't use the alley like a public road. Also, use more salt.
google avatar

Caitlin C.

Yelp
Cozy atmosphere. Great cocktails. My favorite foods are the gumbo, red beans and rice and cornbread!
google avatar

Yelp
Simply put, simply wonderful, good food, happy hour is great, ambience nice, came away stuffed and satified.

Yelp
Tiny Bubble Room is one of my favorite bars that is near my house. The atmosphere both inside and out are great. Dog friendly patio with shipping containers you can sit in. They also have picnic tables if the thought of sitting in a three-sided shipping container makes you claustrophobic. The staff is always on point and checking in to see if you need additional drinks or food. The patio is heated so it can be enjoyed all year. They have a pretty great happy hour for food and drinks. Recently they started offering a HH deal on wine. $20 for a bottle and you can bring the leftovers home with you. Full price the selected happy hour wines run around $36 per bottle. Great deal!! The food has always been great. They have a few options for those who are vegetarian and pescatarian. The mac and cheese, catfish, and veggie burger are some of my favorites. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

Jennifer P.

Yelp
The service is always friendly and prompt. We can relax and enjoy our drinks, meal and company without feeling rushed.

Yelp
Had been curious about this location that presented like a former Chinese restaurant from the outside. Mysteriously there were few if any windows on the exterior- the name Tiny Bubble Room left me wondering what awaited me inside. No entry from N Lombard, you need to enter from the back. Private outdoor seating rooms colorfully painted align the back exterior, or you can dine inside in the booths, or at the bar. Remembering our names and enthusiastic, Victor is our wait person there and he knows the menu well. Food is EXTRAORDINARY! Being a salad foodie, on the first visit I tried the Radicchio Caesar and the Arugula Roasted Beet Salad. Both salads were so delicious that I threatened to return when the restaurant opened the following day. The bestie and I have returned numerous times; he loves the jambalaya and gumbo dishes. The Kale salad is a new favorite, and next visit I'll try the Cajun Caprese Salad. Interesting and attentive, the bartender serves some great concoctions in pretty glasses. If you're a beer connoisseur, this is your spot. Best kept secret in North Portland!
google avatar

Becca C.

Yelp
Really great service, amazing outdoor patio and a great selection of adult beverages! The frozen rose is perfect for a summer day, the bowl of house pickled veggies are craveable plus some Cajun tots! What else do you need in life!?
google avatar

Maro S.

Yelp
Wow, this place (that I never knew about until this week!) knocks it out of the park! Awesome Happy Hour menu -- like actual great cocktails for a great price -- excellent food, great beer selection, spacious patio with covered areas, and a solid staff! We brought games and met friends and spent a few hours drinking and snacking and enjoying the gorgeous weather. Food-wise we tried the fries, roasted cauliflower, the gumbo, and the spicy mac. Our friends had a burger and a shrimp po-boy. Everyone was happy with their food! Between the four of us we tried quite a few cocktails + a beer, and nothing disappointed. Will definitely be returning!
google avatar

Neil W.

Yelp
This is the best Cajun food (especially Red Beans and Rice, Gumbo etc.) in Portland. Always happy with their cocktails, beers and shocked at how affordable it is when I get the check. Can't recommend highly enough.
google avatar

Lauren K.

Yelp
Food- its good, but some items are definitely overpriced for the quality. If you like something, stick with it!! Service- it pains me to say this but it is so so so bad, every time. I live in the neighborhood and come around once per week or so out of pure convenience and ive never had a prompt service experience. I know they stay busy (they arent blatantly ignoring their customers, even though it seems that way sometimes)-- they just really need to hire more staff. & because the staff is busy, they can get pretty sassy when you need to grab their attention Ambiance- 10/10. The patio is the best, its dog friendly (so thats fun), and the inside is a well decorated, moody spot to be when youre feeling that way.
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Great food, great, fun service! Ambiance is unique...cool pods outside! Beers were on the warmer side but that's it!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I've passed by tiny bubble room so many times and thought "I need to try it" I'm from the south and finally went. It was fantastic. Split the catfish sliders, caprese sliders, and the hush puppies. Washed it down with their frozen drink of the day. Delicious.
google avatar

Reed H.

Yelp
Talk about the perfect neighborhood restaurant! Indoor/outdoor seating abounds, consistently great and massive rotating beer list, really tasty bar food with a good southern twist. The jambalaya in particular is killer!

Yelp
Always love coming here. But as an update, I tried a few things and had an odd experience as of late. First myself and husband and cousin and a friend, came on a Sunday. Around 9pm, and we decided to sit out side. It was a nice evening. And they have cool individual tables in painted shipping containers. The table we chose was dirty. So we asked for it to be cleaned. And literally the guy just through a towel at us and said "here you go". Ummmm! We clean? Alright. To his defense I think he was the only server taking care of the Tables outside. And he was also very friendly. But I don't expect to clean my own table or retrieve my own water. Moving on. Still love the variety of beer here. Always have a rare and unique choice of beers on draft. Food was also good as usual. Love the fries, fried pickles, gumbo, caprese sliders, and Po boys. Although my husband would say the pickles were too breaded and overdone. And we both agree the hot chicken sandwich was lacking in chicken and spice. Have you ever gone to a southern style food place and thought, "my grandmother would think this food is bland." I have.

Did not serve us because we had kids and were quite rude. Don't forget, you never know anybody's situation and just because we're brown doesn't mean we're less than. If a white family had shown up, would you have at least explained your policy and not asked us to get off the property?

Yelp
What a nice addition to the neighborhood. They converted the parking lot to outdoor seating with a huge tent (socially distanced) and repurposed shipping containers - heating coming soon. Great beer and drink list. Tried the catfish basket and shrimp poboy - both solid. The fry is amazing and both the shrimp and fish are just well done. Friendly customer service as well. 5/5!

Yelp
The food is great. We had a server that had many, many rules and opinions. The other servers were not authoritarian. He really ruined our experience there. Bummer. I choose to spend my time and money where customers are not chastised.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The entire thing is built out of shipping containers and it looks really cool, and the food is fucking phenomenal. We tried the gumbo, catfish sliders, hush puppies, and a boozy slushy. Every single thing was 10/10, to the point where I wanted more despite being stuffed. The happy hour deals are also fantastic. We are definitely coming back.

Yelp
Tiny Bubble Room is such a gem! The food is well priced and DELICIOUS. The drink menu is amazing and offers so many new options. And the service is great. I haven't had a single bad experience coming here and will keep coming back as it is a consistent and satisfying. I love the chicken strip meal and a beer for when I'm feeling basic. I love the cauliflower and sliders too. I recently had a seasonal salad that was super yummy. I seriously don't think you could go wrong with anything here.

Yelp
This was a suggestion by a friend and it was very good. The back patio with bench warmers and a fire at each table was a nice touch. The food was very good as well as the service.

Yelp
TBR is a charming neighborhood spot with a Cajun-inspired menu and an excellent (and pretty long) tap list. My husband and I frequent this spot for reliably tasty food and drinks, friendly staff, and a really comfortable vibe.

Yelp
Food isn't really all that good. The prices seem right until you get a sandwich that is basically just bread. (Etc) Service is usually horrible. Sometimes you'll get a bartender who is kind, mostly they are indifferent to you being there. But the servers I've had are usually the worst. Literally turning away as they toss things in front of you just to go back to the bar to chat it up with the other staff. They actively make you feel unwelcome and ignore you.
