Tiny Chef

I was really excited to try Tiny Chef after having had read such wonderful reviews and since I typically enjoy Korean food. But the food was disappointing for both my partner and me. He had ordered the fried rice and pork. I had ordered the tacos on corn tortillas with tofu and dragon sauce. We both wanted to like it but it just missed the mark for us both. The flavors on the taco didn't compliment each other well for me. My partner said his pork wasn't really meat but more like skin. Although I didn't enjoy the food as much as I would have liked to, I will say the owner seems to really pour her heart into her cooking and craft. That alone is a rare find and makes Tiny Chef worth going to.

I've heard Tiny Chef was really good, and I got a chance to try it while playing pinball at the Silver Ballroom. I got the bibmibap bowl with pork belly and dragon sauce. It was delicious! The dragon sauce had just the right amount of spiciness for me (maybe a 2 on a 5 point scale). The ingredients were fresh, and it was full of flavor. 10/10, I'll definitely be having it again the next time I'm in the mood to play pinball.

I absolutely LOVE TINY CHEF!!!! I have had the tacos and bibimbap, as well as many of the specials. Whatever you choose is simply the right choice, because it is all delicious and made with love. I've been following the Chef and Owner's story for years now, and feel so grateful we have her making Korean street food for St. Louis! Also the bar (The Silver Ballroom) that this restaurant is situated in is the perfect dive, with a backroom filled with pinball machines. Come with friends and make it a night!

The food good, but my tacos today missed the mark. I ALWAYS order the exact same thing, pork belly tacos, corn tortilla, dragon sauce. So I know what to expect. I get home today to find flour tortillas, 3x the normal amount of dragon sauce and only two lime wedges for three tacos. That much sauce throws off the balance that makes these a great taco. Wish I didnt have to knock it down a star, but this was lazy execution on a 'not busy' night. More sauce does not equal better.

I tried Tiny Chef at The Silver Ballroom and it was incredible!! The special that weekend was Korean nachos and I got them with pork and dragon sauce. The meat was flavorful, tender, and rich - the perfect compliment to the spicy jalapeños, crunchy chips, creamy sauce, and salty cheese. Plus, I loved the dive bar ambience with pin ball machines. The service was fast and the person working the food window was very friendly. I can’t wait to go back!

My first time eating Tiny Chef and it was worth the hype! The food delivered bold flavor and a generous portion for the price.

Absolutely one of the biggest “hidden gems” in STL! It’s inside of a pinball bar, you order at the cute window in the back with the nicest staff ever. They have rotating specials, if you see the Kimchi Carbonara then it’s a must-have.

Really enjoyed my first time at Tiny Chef. I got the Korean Street tacos with bulgogi steak and they hit the spot. Staff was super nice, and the Silver Ballroom (the bar that houses the kitchen) has great vibes and excellent taste in music. Will definitely be returning!

This is a cute little placed tucked inside a bar/arcade area. When we went, it wasn't packed, so chatting wasn't an issue. However, I can imagine it if it gets really full, it could get pretty loud. Seating is pretty limited, so take-out is probably a good option. That being said, the food was extremely delicious. I got the Bibimbap w/ double meat (char siu pork belly and bulgogi steak). I had high expectations given the raving reviews on Yelp and Google, and I definitely wasn't let down. The char siu pork belly was perfectly tender with a really satisfying, lip-smacking flavor. The bulgogi steak was juicy and full of flavor. The combination of the two meats added a great variety of textures and richness to the dish (definitely overkill, but I live life in excess). It had a good balance of flavors with the kimchi/radish/veggies providing a good sharp contrast to the rich meats. The portion was generous too, especially with the double meat, and I definitely left feeling full. Overall, Tiny Chef is a hidden gem if you're looking for something quick but packed with flavor. Whether you're dining in or grabbing takeout, it's a must-try spot! 5/5 stars, will come back.

Korean food that's vegetarian friendly? Say no more, I was excited to try especially after reading about the chef. As a vegetarian, it's hard to find good Asian food in general! The place is inside the Silver Ballroom pinball bar which is divey but welcoming. Tiny Chef adds a lot of value to the place. The chef herself took our orders and was super warm and friendly. I was tempted toward the bibimbap, but ended up getting the special which was a musubi burrito. The food came out in perfect timing. One of the orders was wrong, so she immediately fixed it and let us keep the wrong order. So nice. The food was delicious and super filling. At some point, I definitely could have stopped eating and felt full but it was too good not to finish.

This place has been on my list for a long time. Went here with friends last night. Located in the silver ballroom so it was easy to find. Menu is limited to bibimbap and tacos but they had a nacho special when I went. I ordered the bibimbap with beef bulgogi and my husband ordered tacos. The bibimbap was flavorful and delicious. My husband said his tacos were good as well. Food came out fairly quickly and was brought to our table. The bar is a dive bar and doesn't have a lot of tables but we found one and it was good enough. I would def eat here again and was glad to have finally tried it.

The Tiny Chef in the Silver Ballroom in St. Louis, MO, is a hidden gem nestled within a quirky venue. This is a "If you know you know" spot. The Silver Ballroom is an old-school pinball arcade with a vibrant bar scene, and the addition of Tiny Chef's kitchen...boy did it get an upgrade. Tiny Chef's menu is small but mighty. We ordered take out just recently and we got one of every bibimpap - tofu, chicken, pork and beef. These are fantastic large portions to share. So I got to my parents and unveiled everything to take all my pictures and videos but my dad was hovering so I didn't get as much footage as I would have liked. As we all began to eat...silence...head nodding as to approval and yumminess. Man that's good. Our new favorite takeout!!!

I love her food !! Melanie is a magician . My father who is vegetarian was able to eat Korean food for the first time because her food is vegetarian and so easy to adjust to carnivorous and vegan and gluten free options . I come here every couple weeks to enjoy the soulful nature of her food and the great ambience of the silver ballroom. Her food is like a big comforting hug full of nutrients and love ! It doesn't hurt that the people in the kitchen are so nice and kind !! Ps- the tiny chef has a great Facebook page and is open friday to Monday evening

I like this place atmosphere. It is a tiny arcade bar where you can order drinks at the bar. The drinks were delicious. There is one machine that me and my boyfriend played there for over forty minutes. Parking is side street. About tiny chef, the Food is spicy, I love spicy but hoping maybe in future have other favors that stand out and that the spiciness is not too overbearing. I found it weird that my boyfriend and I ordered three entree but was given only one fork and one paper towel total, we do share but do have to come back to ordering stand to ask for at least one more fork and paper towel.

This place has been on my list since the beginning of time! I've been to silver ball room a million times, but never stayed long enough to try the food. Where you order the food is an actual hole in the wall inside this dive bar. The food is unbelievable and their specials are the BEST! I did try their tacos as well and WOW! I mean, this food is so amazing and is a MUST try!

This is one of those hidden startup gems that you find sometimes. Three of us went, the price was very reasonable. The nacho's were fantastic. We tried the spicy, which wasn't blow your head off, dragon. We also tried the pixie, which is sweet and sour, very small amount of spice. We had both chicken and pork. Generally, I like pork better, but I really loved the chicken. You have seen the reviews, this place makes great food at a reasonable price. It is Korean based spice profile, so you have been told. lol It is a bar with pinball machines, in the tiny kitchen in the back. It is plastic fork and paper napkins, there are few tables, but takeout works great. It is good, it is worth going to more than once. Recommended.

I have been dying to try Tiny Chef for a long time after seeing so many amazing photos on social media. I finally was able to stop by tonight to the friendly window at the back of the Silver Ballroom. I ordered the mandu special with the chicken bulgogi protein. It was a little pricey but I knew it was going to be great. The wait wasn't very long before they brought out my food hot and fresh. The flavors were amazing! Chicken topped the delicate mandu which sat on top of a delicious veggie slaw mix. I ate everything together and it was fantastic. I can't wait to come back and try other dishes!

I was reluctant to try this because of it being a small restaraunt inside a dive bar.... but it's legit. This is some of the best Asian food I've ever had if not the best. I had the Bibimbap Bowl and the tacos and they were legit as it could get. My only complaint is that I wish they had a smaller version of the bowl because it's too large for one serving, but other than that, I'll definitely be coming back.

Hidden delicious gem right here! Chef has a new special every week or get one of their bibimbap bowls or tacos. The pork bowl was tasty and loved the egg on it. The tacos were pretty good wasn't a big fan of the chicken tho. Really spicy flavors! Just a few booths to sit at, play pinball while you wait.

Happened upon this little gem after seeing the article in NYT Cooking, and so glad I did. It's tucked into a fun little dive bar nook, one half bar, one half pinball arcade, and hidden in the back is a door that holds a delicious spot for unique, full of flavor Korean street food. While ever so slightly pricey to add all of the extra toppings, it is totally worth it. Will definitely be a new go to spot in the city for great drinks, food, and some pinball!

We called to place an order and it was ready so quickly!! We have had the mushrooms and tofu on separate occasions on top of the bibimbap and both were SO GOOD. Not only that but our 8 mo and 3 yo loved the bibimbap too. Love Tiny Chef!!

I am definitely overdue with this review. A couple of weeks ago I Tiny Chef did a special Korean seafood, crab legs and shrimp boil. It was flat out delicious. I have been to this restaurant several times, and his other reviewer have noted they work out of a pinball themed dive bar. The food has never failed to be delicious and impressive. But this boil was delicious. Plentiful in crab legs and so much shrimp. The potatoes and cheesy corn were awesome. But the two things that really did it for this dish was the gochujang butter sauce, and the bok choy, that was mixed in. The wilted bok choy in the sauce might've been the best thing I ate and everything was delicious!!! I wish there was more of the vegetable Mixtown. But this meal was so good and I enjoyed it so much! I cannot wait until the chef does another one!!' If you have never tried her food, you definitely should!! Thank you chef!!

The bartenders and the chef are very nice! They are quick to serve you. Food was mediocre. Cheesy corn needed more salt and cheese.

Tiny chef is one of my all time favorite spots in St. Louis. Never not taken to flavortown.

Tucked away in the corner of pinball dive bar Silver Ballroom is the best Korean you'll experience outside of Korea! Bold statement but her cult-like following will back me up. Get the Bibimbop & try the tofu! Even if you're not a tofu fan, Tiny Chef's will change your life forever!

COME ON!!! Her food is unreal and for some reason it took me forever to finally make it here. We came during Omma's stew week with cheesy corn and oh my god, every single bite was incredible. I dont think Im a plum sauce gal so Ill go for spicy on the tofu tacos next time. Thank you for sharing your talents with us

Little gem inside Silver Ballroom. Just an update: As of June 18, Party Bear Pizza isn't here. (Not sure if it's coming back or not but they currently are no longer there) Tiny Chef is only open on weekends, and they seem to have rotating specials every week. Check their Facebook page to see what they are making that week. (I think they have tacos and bibimbap every week) We got to try their weekly special of kimchi carbonara, which is a Korean noodle dish. It was delicious. We added egg and pork belly. It has great flavor, meat was tender, noodles were incredible. Bibimbap was also great, their beef is cut into bigger cubes instead of the regular normal smaller pieces of beef but it was tender and seasoned well. Great place, will be checking Facebook for the menu and be back!!!

First time trying Tiny Chef was last night's seafood boil (pre-ordered) and I can't wait to come back and try her weekend menus! The seafood boil special was a generous portion of meaty, crab legs and knuckles, shrimp, with a side of Korean cheesy corn and small potatoes. My boyfriend and I both enjoyed our meals and brought our own crab utensils so we could just order a drink from The Silver Ballroom bar and eat while the meals were hot. If you like spicy boils, you may want to bring some hot sauce or chili flakes (this one is very mild from a spice standpoint), but the flavoring was good and the seafood quality was great! The bar Tiny Chef is in has a divey/neighborhood feel with pinball machines in an adjoining room and just a couple booths & 1 table by the door to sit if they aren't already occupied. If space is full though, food is easy to order as take out with you.

Tonight was the night I'd been waiting for: Tiny Chef's Tteokbokki Special!!! I'd had Tiny Chef's Korean Crab Boil to-go before (which is amazingly delicious, and you should order it when Chef Melanie has it available), but this was my first time getting to order it in-person at the Silver Ballroom. If it's your first time ordering in-person, it can be intimidating when you walk through the doors of the Silver Ballroom, but trust me my friend, it is well worth it. (You can also call to order, but sometimes it's so busy the phones go down.) Tiny Chef offers several varieties of Tteokbokki: Red, White, and Pink sauce. Red is for those who love spice in their life. White is for those whose bodies won't let them enjoy spice and instead offers delicious, creamy savoriness. And pink is for those who want a little bit of both worlds. The Tteokbokki tonight was INCREDIBLE. It was everything I dreamed a Korean rice cake would be and more. Light, fluffy rice deliciousness that melts in your mouth and brings a soft smile to your face is my description. It was so good I came back with another person to share a second dish... If you haven't yet had the pleasure of experiencing Tiny Chef for yourself, please do yourself a favor and try out some of her amazing Korean dishes soon!

I was blown away by the special, omma's stew. Portion size was much more filling than I had originally expected when served. I took home about 1/3. Service was great, both at the bar and the window. The setting is great, inside The Silver Ballroom, so great drinks to go along with the tasty eats.

Melanie Meyer (Tiny Chef) is amazing! I follow along on Instagram and Facebook to know what the menu is for the weekend, specials of the day, and when she (always) sells out. I haven't been inside the Silver Ballroom lately to see her set up, but the pickup from the walk-up window is easy peasy. The first time, I placed my order at the window and then waited in my car until she re-opened her window to let me know my order was ready. We had the Bibimbap bowl with bulgogi steak (other protein options available) with spicy dragon sauce. There is a sweet pixie sauce option, too. We ordered 4 tacos with bulgogi steak and 2 with char siu pork belly. Is your mouth watering yet? We also ordered the special of the weekend- tteokbokki made from scratch! The second time, I placed my order through her Instagram DMs, paid via the cash app, and showed up when the order was ready. She was offering a "meal kit." Essentially, she had prepared the bulgogi steak enchiladas, sauce and shredded cheese were served on the side. It also came with an order of cheesy corn. We just popped everything in the oven and it was good to go. (no photos of this bc we ate it too fast) Next time we go, we're definitely ordering more. You'll want these leftovers, but likely, you'll just eat them all in one night.

YES - this tiny party wedged into the backroom of a pinball bar on the south side really is a treasure! In the present COVID era, both Party Bear Pizza and Tiny Chef post when they'll have food available and accept advance orders online. Follow both on social media if you want to know when their wares are available. We stock up on frozen Party Bear Pizzas when they're available. Every part of the pizza is hand-made and truly exceptional. There's a layer of garlic puree on between the crust and sauce that gives it a great kick. The crust is thicker than St. Louis-style and holds up to the generously applied toppings and mozzarella cheese. And Tiny Chef... wow, is this stuff good. I don't know much about Korean food, but I'm learning, thanks to Melanie's descriptions of dishes like bibimap, jjajangmueon, and other wonders. Bulgogi Chicken Soup is spicy and hearty. The street tacos are amazing. Tiny Chef offers lots of vegan options, including Korean Jjigae and plenty of "add a protein" dishes for which tofu is an option. Everything is full of fresh, flavorful, colorful vegetables, and is made with care and love. Highly recommend!

Finally tried Tiny Chef! We got the carbonara special (vegan and non vegan with an egg). Both were great, but definitely the cheesy buttery goodness of the non vegan one was amazing. We also got the bibimbap and tacos with tofu, I love the dragon sauce! Hope next time she has the bulgingi mushrooms! Wanted to also go when she had the Tteokbokki special, but I missed it - can't wait till she brings it back! I love that she works out of the silver ballroom, it gives it a very special feel and has a charm to it. It's also nice because as you wait for your food, you can get a nice drink or play games! Can't wait to go back for more of her specials!

Very fun place in the back of a pinball bar. I had read excellent things about this place and was really looking forward to trying. I enjoy spicy and ordered the sweet and spicy Bibimbap Bowl but it was really to spicy for me to enjoy so I recommend asking for the less spicy style, which my friends ordered and was still spicy. It's a fun place to hang as as when you are done you can stick around and play some pinball!

Tiny Chef's food is always a 10/10! Between the ambience and pinball inside Silver Ballroom plus TC's food, it's always a great experience.

This was my second foray into The Silver ballroom and the first time there realized Tiny Chef cooked there. I've followed her on instagram for some time but never put 2and2 together. Loved The Silver Ballroom! Anyway we went the second time just for her food. She had posted on her Instagram that it was a special with udon noodles and black bean sauce, Jjajangmyeon. It was smashing! We added the bulgogi steak! We also had the bibimbap dish which we added chicken and egg. Again delicious! Got a cold beer from the bar and dinner was devine. You order from the little cubbie they have and they give you a number. We went on a Monday eve which was nice because so many places are closed on Monday and the Silver Ballroom had free pinball so that's a plus. We sat at a table and shortly thereafter got our food. its a bit noisy with music but its a bar so it was expected. We went early so as not to miss her food because it sells out. Follow Tiny Chef on instagram for her menu each week then go get some, you wont be disappointed. Have a drink at the bar and play some pinball. it's a win win evening in my book!

So really I'm giving five stars because not only was Tiny Chef's food good but she's also my peeps, Korean, and there don't seem to be a lot of us here. We got the special for one night which was a shrimp and crab boil with baby potatoes and baby bok choy and cheesy corn. We were unbelievably full and powered through to finish it all. It was all flavorful and well cooked and not overcooked like a lot of people who do boils. We were really excited to have some seafood and it was al delicious. Can't wait to go back and try other things!

Duuuuuuude, I had only had a cheese burger meat pie here at silver ballroom like three or four months ago,... tonight I had a spam burrito inside of a seaweed wrap with pixie sauce. Period. You heard that right... these cats know exactly what they doing. High class eats, exotic as fuck for the STL, great service, and ALL at more than reasonable prices?!?!?!? Good lookin out. Pandemic be over when I can belly up to a bar, order delicious food, AND play pinball like a dead dumb and visually challenged kid?!?!!! Bet. I know who ain't cryin about the pandemic. Tiny chef is straight doing it.

Tiny Chef is fire, and so is my mouth! I had dinner here a few times and am obsessed with her nuclear and carbo noodles (specials). Not only is her food amazing but she seems like a pretty amazing human too. If you follow her on Instagram she shares much of her story and it could be turned into a tv show! By following her insta you also get updates about her specials and hours. I felt a little lost trying to figure out when I could get my fav dishes until I found that- so def worth it. Everything Tiny Chef and her team put out is pure magic and the bar that her magical kitchen is in is great at serving up drinks to put out the delicious fire in your mouth. She was recently featured on a celebrity chef food network show so get in now while you can! I assume once the episode airs she'll be even busier than normal (truly deserved- Bc did I mention just how awesome she and her food is?!)

Awesome seafood boil from Tiny Chef! Our friends recommended I try and it was really delicious! Everything was cooked just right and the corn was incredible. Highly recommend and you can tell pride goes into the dishes they serve up.

Best Korean BBQ tacos in the city. I recommend the beef bulgogi with kimchi. It is a flavor explosion.

Tucked away in the corner of The Silver Ballroom, the Tiny Chef steals the spotlight from the multitude of classic and new pinball games. I tried the Korean pork belly tacos with dragon sauce. It has a lot of back heat but isn't so overwhelming that you can't taste the rest of the food. The corn tortillas are perfectly charred. I got the soy slaw (I'm not a fan of kimchi). I had to stop and savor my tacos, instead of just eating them. They are the perfect balance of sweet, salty and spicy, and crunchy and soft. Dare to say the best tacos I've ever had. This place is a hidden gem in the Bevo area and I will be going back. The Nachos and bibimbap bowl sounds fantastic!

Window in the back of the Silver Ballroom pinball bar that has 2 menu's: one pizza menu & one Korean-inspired street food (taco/bimbombop) menu. Pizza has thin crust, but it is not cracker-thin, and they come in personal (seven-inch) sizes with build-your-own toppings. Tacos and bibimbap bowls are create-your-own as well. The mascot, the Party Bear, is a stuffed animal at the front of the bar I got the Korean tacos with Chicken, Steak, and Pork Belly respectively and they were amazing!! Highly recommend

Still doing incredible things, this tag team duo of a couple are the cutest and most rockin' best kept secret ever. They have gained more popularity and have successfully brought new business and foodies to the silver ballroom with the many write ups they've garnered. Much attention has been brought to them, and it's for VERY good reasons. Party Bear's pizza is pretty great, and there's just something about the strong taste of garlic cheese sticks that makes you feel at home. On the Korean side of things I have gotten adventurous and tried many of the Tiny Chef's Korean inspired cuisine, and it is impressive. The unique char siu pork belly is cooked slowly and multiple times during the day. Her char siu tofu literally tastes exactly like the pork with the same spices and sauce, and I just can't get enough. I started ordering extra kimchi with my tacos now because it's just so flavorful and packs a good punch of heat! I have been trying her specials for a few weeks now, and her flavors are really unique and special. Even her "Chicken soup for the Seoul" (Korean inspired chicken soup) was absolutely divine as I literally tried to hide the fact I was licking the bowl clean. Her recipes are so delicious that I look forward to tacos (and trying something new and delicious every week) during our Saint Louis Area Pinball league: SLAP at the Silver Ballroom on Morganford.

I can't speak for Party Bear Pizza but Tiny Chef has absolutely amazing food. Went by there Sunday evening and ordered a tostada with avocado and fried egg on top and it was absolutely delicious. I hope this place opens up for lunches

I tried the Tiny Chef's Korean style tacos. Honestly, super tasty! If I had to compare to Seoul Taco on the Loop, hands down Tiny Chef is better. I think I got the dragon sauce(?) but that gives a nice little kick to the tacos as well.

Bibimbap was good but the place is in a dive bar. I didn't really know what the Silver Ballroom was before I went but now I do. If you've not been there, don't be fooled by the term 'ballroom'. It's a bar with pinball machines and on the night I was there I was going to play some pinball while I waited for my food. Change machine didn't work so I couldn't do that. I could see the appeal if I lived close by but otherwise it probably wouldn't be a place I would be quick to visit again.

From a small window tucked into a corner of an unassuming dive bar in south city comes some of the absolute best food to be found for miles and miles, hands down. Party Bear Pizzas, which I first had when they were in development and available frozen, by word of mouth, blow other local joints out of the water. The crust is crispy and thin, but sturdy. The sauce is good enough to eat on its own with a spoon, hearty and flavorful without being too sweet or overpowering. Fresh mozzarella is plentiful and gooey, and do yourselves a favor and order a pizza with the ham on it. Seriously. I don't like ham on pizza, but I love THIS ham on THIS pizza. As for Tiny Chef's creations, they are a labor of love, and it shows. The house-made kimchi and char siu pork belly on Korean nachos will knock your socks off. The pork belly is crispy, sticky, tender, and salty-sweet. I sort of want a to-go bag to just, like, shovel into my face throughout the day. Keep an eye on the specials that pop up each weekend, too. The tteokbokki is so good, it'll make you cry. Those pillowy little rice dumplings are like a hug in a bowl. I got mine with the bulgogi beef, cheese, and a fried egg with a perfectly runny yolk. My husband had his the same, but swapped out the beef for the char siu pork. Both were so good, we split them. (Don't worry if you're not a carnivore; it can also be vegan or vegetarian!) I have yet to get my hands on the Korean hummus or one of the incredible-looking soups offered on occasion, but i hope to soon. Hurry up. Go support this hidden gem. They sell out of food, especially specials, regularly, so don't wait!

Just go straight to this place and get the Korean tacos with dragon sauce. Order a Busch beer and pull up to the bar and wait for the magic to come out. The char siu pork tacos - you will never regret it! I also tried the Asian-influenced hummus, which freaked me out - Silver Ballroom patrons need to eat plates of this. Chris and Melanie are so cool, and you can pet the party bear before you leave. GOOOOOOO!

I was so surprised to find this gem tucked away inside of the Silver Ballroom! I had the special of the day (Chicken Soup for the Seoul) and ordered the Beef Bulgogi Tacos out of pure gluttony (because the portions were certainly more than enough!). It's rare to come across fusion food as thoughtful and well executed as this. The chefs really nailed how to complement Korean spices and marinated meats with Mexican dishes and even American style soups and sandwiches. It's a minor detail, but even the side dish of Tiny Chef Rice was somehow delicious and I wanted to go back for even more.
