Well, I was so depressed the other day, when visiting my local favorite Austin bakery after a long hiatus, and being disappointed.
That all changed when my wife told me about a new place in Kirby lane village. Tiny's has a restaurant, which I have yet to try, and a little pastry and coffee stand.
Little is an understatement, as the pastries were phenomenal. I looked at the menu and really couldn't figure out what to get. So, I walked up, stood there, and watched as people ordered. Must of been three people in front of me, and they all ordered a bunch of the chocolate chip cookies. I figured, why not try it, even though I am not a big chocolate chip cookie eater these days. One of the best ever I have had.
I then saw something that looked delectable, and I was right. It was a Kouign-amann bread, or as called in the states, the muffin version a kouignette. This is not for the faint at heart, when trying this since it is mainly a very rich succulent pastry of dough, butter and sugar. Last place I had one of these was in Japan, and Tiny's beat it hands down. The crust was so flaky and covered with just the right butter glaze, when paired with the chewy doughy inside just melted in your mouth. My depression finally subsided after having a few bites of this, and I must say, I am now addicted as I have returned a number of times for this and some coffee.
I also ordered their scone, which was fantastic, full of flavor, and hardly any dryness, which can be a problem with scones. They don't have a huge selection of pastries, but the ones they have are delectable! They also have ice cream and varies coffee drinks, tea, and breakfast sandwiches that are out of this world.
