The Best Ice Cream in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"Tucked away in the Highland Park Corner Store is an unexpected piece of complex and coveted machinery: the Little Jem, used across New Zealand (and increasingly Seattle) to blend chunks of fresh, frozen fruit into soft serve to order. The result is startlingly bright and refreshing, with in-season flavors like early summer cherry and strawberry shining with particular brilliance. A couple of small vinyl booths in the corner and a counter along the window provide a good amount of seating, but on peak days the small space can feel a bit claustrophobic; take advantage of the nearby West Duwamish Greenbelt, and bring plenty of napkins." - Sophie Grossman

Google
This is probably my third time having New Zealand-style ice cream, and I’d say Tip Top is pretty solid. I got the strawberry and blueberry flavors. If you're unfamiliar with New Zealand-style ice cream, it’s known for its creamy texture mixed with real fruit or berries. The berries themselves were great, but I thought the vanilla base could have been creamier. This spot is tucked inside a little corner store and has a nice vibe, perfect for sitting and enjoying your ice cream.

It was not what I was expecting. It is a small ice cream counter in a small market. You get a base soft serve cream and they add fresh fruit. It was yummy but not sweet like ice cream!

Love this place! Friendly staff and the ice cream is lovely. My family got several flavors and they were all fresh and given the process by which they make the soft serve, not your usual manufactured, fake flavorings. I got the sweet cream base with salted caramel and honey pokey pieces. All Brilliant!

Google
That was strange … It’s a convenience store with a little soft-serve kind of thing … Service was slow and kind of rude. Way over priced for what it is. And what it is isn’t that great

Visiting Seattle from Dallas, I came across this place to get a sweet treat as we drove to the airport. The place did not disappoint! You’d never tell from the outside that they have great service, great ice cream and a simple yet inviting retro atmosphere.

Yelp
The mango icecream with spice topping was ok. The quantity was huge. It had mango chunks and habenaro spice. Nothing great; but different. It is a mom and pop shop with indoor and outdoor spring arrangement. Do not expect high end furniture, Staff is high school kids. Nice staff.

Yelp
I wasn't personally a fan but I'm going 3 stars because this is the only place here that does the NZ ice cream (I had recently watched a documentary about a shop in Portland, OR that did it and they claimed to be the only one in the US?)...and my partner liked her vegan banana. It's nice that they can do a coconut base or a cream base and that there are plenty of options for mix-ins and toppings. Service is friendly and pretty quick.

Yelp
NZ style ice cream is finally here in Seattle!! I saw a video of this on instagram and rushed over to the Highland Park Corner Store. The only places I knew that had this kind of ice cream before were in Portland and then in NZ, so I'm so happy there's one closer. The ice cream machine has this like contraption that looks like a cone drilling bit and it blends frozen fruit and the ice cream together to make your ice cream. They have a variety of frozen fruits to choose from and for the ice cream base, you can pick from sweet cream or a vegan coconut sorbet. And they also have toppings you can add on. I picked the sweet cream base and strawberries for my fruit. They make it fresh to order and oh my goodness this was SO good. The flavor was so strong and it was so delicious and sweet and refreshing. I ordered a kiddo size but which i had gotten a large. The machine was very cool and everyone working there was super nice!!! I will absolutely be back here maybe all summer long. Today was a rainy day so it wasn't that busy, but i can imagine on a hot sunny day that the line for ice cream will be long!!!

Yelp
I would call this a hit and miss. I got the raspberry with coconut base and didn't feel any mix ins or toppings calling to me. The wife got the strawberry with milk base and felt the same. Hers was 100% better than mine, something about the coconut base was off - extra sweet like sugar was added. While hers was very delicious I think addition of other options for toppings or mix ins would bring this higher on my rating. Would try again if they expanded their menu.

Yelp
This place was cute! Fast service, workers were helpful, & the ice cream was so bomb. I'm originally from Samoa & we have New Zealand's Tip top ice cream everywhere. So this definitely hit home for me!! This is worth the drive :)

Yelp
Cute little ice cream shop/corner store with a fun candy selection for the kids as well as coffee/espresso drinks. The kids had banana sweet cream and mango sweet cream. I tried both flavors and they were rich, creamy and not too sweet! The staff were friendly even though we made a mess. I hope folks will come out and support this neighborhood gem.

Yelp
We took a special trip to west Seattle for the legendary New Zealand style soft serve, and I legit am confused. We each ordered the vegan base with different fruits- one strawberry and one with blackberry. We are not picky people, but whaaaat? This was so gross! It tasted like the vegan coconut base was rancid and the ice cream wasn't actually very fruity tasting. We are both the type to finish something we spent money on but eventually we asked, "why are we doing this to ourselves?" and cut our losses. Everything was cute, the store was cute, people eating their dairy ice cream were cute and looked happy. Perhaps this will serve as a cautionary tale for the vegans among us, but it's also possible it was a bad batch of vegan base.
