"Named after the fine Italian '00' flour that’s used for making pasta, this relaxed and comforting restaurant could quickly become your go-to in Edinburgh’s New Town. British, Mediterranean and Italian cuisines all influence the menu, which provides plenty of flavour and value for money. The small plates selection is mightily appealing, but it's the seriously good homemade pastas like bigoli cacio e pepe that most catch the eye." - Michelin Inspector

Totally recommended to foodies. This is an amazing place to go and eat some authentic Italian food. They have excellent seating and preparation of the food. No doubt they've been in Michelin Guide. Maybe still are - not sure sorry. I had a variety of dishes and none was less than excellent. The mixture of the spices, herbs and tastes of the starters, main course all compliments each other. No one thing is mismatched and it's a roller coaster of good food and drinks. I had a whiskey infused with cherry - had three of them, so you know how good it would have been. Each sip had a new note coming up in my mouth. A bit costly if you have drinks and food together but if you don't usually drink then it should be < 100 GBP for a party of two (taking into account you eat from each section). Definitely go with their Tiramisu and strawberry sorbet at the end of your meal.

Absolutely banging food, we loved every dish! The staff were all really lovely and accommodating. We had a 1 year old with us who wanted to toddle around downstairs and the staff were really friendly to him. Can't recommend trying this place out enough!

A great restaurant to visit! Edinburgh is backed with restaurant so picking a good one can be hard work. Well this is on you should go to! It has everything, class, sophistication, really tasty plates, great service and is reasonibly priced. The menu has been clevely put together, and done to a high standard. For two people expect to have around 5 to 6 dishes. Total bill for us came to £120 which included drinks which on reflection is not much for this level of quality. Our waitress/bar tender Rachel was so friendly and helpful! What a pleasure she is for the business. A must go to restaurant!

From starters to mains, dessert, service, and overall ambiance—everything was exceptional. This place easily ranks among my top three Italian restaurants in Edinburgh. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate my friend’s lactose intolerance, offering tailored menu suggestions and preparing special dishes just for her. They also helped make her birthday celebration truly memorable. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to explore more of their menu.

Tipo in Edinburgh offers a cozy, intimate setting paired with inventive takes on Italian classics. The food is mostly excellent—thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor—and the service is warm and attentive. A charming spot for a relaxed, delicious evening.

We had a lovely dining experience at Tipo on Tuesday, on their fixed lunch menu, which offers three courses for £28, with two options for each course. The warm focaccia was incredibly light and airy, setting the stage for what was to come. The carpaccio of trout—it was simply knockout. For our pasta dishes, we decided to share both, and we couldn’t have been happier. The ragu was rich and full of depth, while the green sauce was fresh and vibrant, perfectly complementing the meal. At this point, we were already in culinary heaven. Now, the desserts… oh my goodness! The Tiramisu was nothing short of heavenly. The coffee syrup-soaked sponge paired with the luscious vanilla sabayon made it the best I’ve ever tasted—there was no way I was sharing that! The chocolate cremeau tart was equally fabulous, light and indulgent without being overwhelming. The wine selection by the glass was impressive, and we rounded off our meal with coffee and delightful petit fours. The dining room itself was a beautiful, light-filled space, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. Despite us arriving about 20 minutes late due to train signal issues, the team was unfazed and welcoming. They even called ahead to check on us, which was a nice touch and indicative of their professionalism. I absolutely loved my time at Tipo and we left feeling excited about our next visit, having enjoyed great food, excellent service, a lovely atmosphere, and an attractive lunch price point. Thank you Tipo x

Stunning food but I wanted more for the price! Very small portions even for tapas. It was expensive for what it was in our opinion. Probably wouldn’t return, but no faults with the taste of the food.

I dined solo here and sat at the counter. The staff are professional, unobtrusive, and friendly. The food is very good. The chef knows how to source and cook good ingredients and make good pasta. Simple but delicious.
