The Eccentric Inns of England

"Not a country house hotel, but a country retreat; the former implies some aristocratic formality, while the latter, at least in the case of Titchwell Manor, simply means a luxurious yet unpretentious escape by the Norfolk coast, in a Victorian farmhouse and its renovated outbuildings, all updated in a playful and eclectic style, mixing period details with vintage and modern furniture." - Mark Fedeli

The kitchen serves everything from artfully composed haute cuisine to a classic Sunday roast; the hotel’s proprietors also serve fish and chips and wood-fired pizza in a pair of nearby restaurants. Among the local attractions is the Titchwell Marsh nature reserve." - Tablet Hotels

Fantastic one night break. Comfortable room initially a bit cold due to a heating problem but was efficiently resolved without fuss. I really appreciate how the team of staff work hard to provide a great experience for my wife and myself. My impression overall is one of friendly service and very different to being 'corporate' and cold. Hoping it retains that personal touch. Food was tasty with a decent range in the evening and for breakfast. |Don't omit a visit to Titchwell bird reserve and bird hides ( 2 minutes away) where we saw a good range of fresh water and sea birds dining on mud flats. All set in glorious country and sea views. Perfect.

Another great trip to Titchwell Manor. Service (as always) was brilliant - most of the staff have been there for many years and welcome guests like friends and family. Our room overlooking the herb garden was spacious and the bed was amazingly comfortable. There was an issue with the radiator but this was instantly solved by provision of a convector heater so we were very cosy. Food was good with significant changes to the menu each day and service in the restaurant was impeccable with no-one rushing us to finish. Unlike many hotels in the area, Titchwell has a large carpark and is perfectly placed for easy access to the delights of the coast.

We were staying a few minutes walk away, but went for breakfast. Not an imaginitive menu, but what we got was timely, good quality ingredients, well-cooked, and delicious. They even brought the dog a (free) plate of sausage before we gave her any of ours.

Booked a 2 night mid week stay in one of the herb garden rooms with own patio, sunbeds and garden table with chairs. We have been coming to Titchwell Manor 17 years usually end of August to celebrate my birthday. Pleased to say everything was as it should be. The staff are still as warm and welcoming, and the food delicious. So now we read that the Snaith family have sold their amazing business to The Chestnut Group. Good luck to you all and thankyou for some wonderful memories.

I recently had a wonderfully relaxing couple of days at Titchwell Manor. This was a return visit and I was reassured that nothing had changed since I was last there. Titchwell Manor is one of those places where the people running it are the stars. From the moment you walk through the door and are greeted by reception, to the waiting staff at breakfast or dinner, to the time you leave, everything is relaxed and nothing is too much trouble for them. Breakfast is a great way to start the day there with a wide variety of options. Dinner likewise although being a pescatarian/vegetarian can be a little challenging but the meals are well presented and vegetables are fresh and tasty. Most of the rooms are on the small side but this is an old country house and changing that would be changing the whole atmosphere of the place. Titchwell will always be the place I go to when I need to unwind. It is well placed for exploring the North Norfolk coastline so it has something for everyone.

We have been going to Titchwell Manor now for 10 years, so why do we go back every year?|It's a different experience from staying at a normal hotel: especially the chains. it's informal, cosy, friendly and welcoming.|The staff are like old friends. The quietly, friendly Aranka has been there since we can remember. The debonair Ronaldo, with his great collection of smart ties, has also been around for a long while. So have many of the other staff but I don't know their names!|The food is very good with high quality ingredients and great blends of flavours. It's the only place we visit where we dine in every night.|..and the rooms are great. All quite individual and with character. We particularly like the rooms that surround the herb garden.|What more is there to say? Oh we love the location near the beaches, especially Brancaster...

Spent 3 nights at this lovely hotel with my partner and two friends. We all agreed that the atmosphere here is very special. The breakfasts and evening meals were absolutely delicious and the rooms were comfortable with good tea and coffee making facilities and in our case (room 3) a beautiful view over the marshes to the sea. Thanks to the restaurant staff for your warm welcome and excellent service.

My wife and I stayed at your hotel from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th September for her birthday weekend, it was our second time staying with you and I wanted to share some feedback on our experience, which unfortunately fell short of expectations, especially given the premium pricing of over £300 per night.||On both days, we experienced issues with hot water in our room. On the first morning, it was just warm enough to shower, but not hot enough to shave comfortably. On the second day, there was no hot water at all, which meant we were unable to get ready in time for breakfast. I did report this to reception on Sunday morning, but no one followed up, and there was no mention of the issue at check-out which I found surprising.| |In addition:|On the first morning, breakfast service was disappointing – there was no menu provided at our table, the order took about 20 mins to be taken and was not correct when it arrived, but I felt was too big of an impact to point it out (white bread is white bread, not granary), the coffee press was faulty but we had to ask for our cups to be changed once we had a fresh pot and the juices ran out, as did the time we had spent at breakfast so as not to impact our day.||Information about the room was non existent, so how to use the items in there i.e. coffee machine, radio/Bluetooth, heating and room controls.||The heated towel rail did not appear to work but as there were no instructions for the room system I may have got that wrong??||The outdoor lighting near our room was suddenly switched on at 1:30am on Sunday morning, which was very disruptive to our sleep, as the room was too bright.||Cleanliness in the room was also below standard, with cobwebs throughout and a shower that didn’t appear to have been properly cleaned in the corners| |On a more positive note, we did enjoy using the hot tub — it was a great feature — though it was uncomfortably hot, to the point of being potentially unsafe. A temperature 5–10 degrees lower would have made it much more enjoyable.||We were looking forward to a relaxing and high-quality weekend, but unfortunately, several aspects of the stay left us feeling more than disappointed.
