I have never experienced such abysmal service at a restaurant before. From start to finish, it was a complete failure on every front. I was forgotten about for the majority of my visit—never checked in on—and when I finally received my food, it was completely wrong and showed zero consideration for my request (which was for crispy bacon). To make matters worse, the bacon was severely undercooked, which is unacceptable even at the lowest standard diner.
As for the coffee, I asked if they had flavored coffee. Instead of bringing flavored coffee, the server returned with a small plastic cup of hazelnut syrup for me to add myself. That would have been acceptable if I had ever received a refill on my coffee during the entire hour I spent at this poor excuse for a diner—but I never did.
I eventually brought these issues to the attention of the manager (Jay), who profusely apologized and assured me that I would be “taken care of.” That reassurance turned out to be hollow. Instead of making things right, I was given a mere 10% discount—on a meal I didn’t even fully receive and without a single follow-up from any staff member. This is a pathetic attempt at customer recovery and falls far below what any reasonable patron should expect.
The only positive thing I can say is that the restaurant still looks like a 1950s diner. Unfortunately, that retro aesthetic is all it has left. Everything else—service, food quality, and accountability—has completely collapsed. This was my last visit, and I strongly recommend that everyone stay far away from this place.
If you want good food, attentive service, and an overall excellent experience, go to Metro Diner. No other place in Fredericksburg delivers the same level of quality and value for your money, hands down.
